Cascina Langa offers a remarkable and cozy stay with plenty of space for large groups. The staff is accommodating and the surroundings are perfect for an extended vacation.
10.0
Short summary: Cascina Langa is a remarkable site, maybe not highly luxury, but very cosy and homely. Many things to discover and lots of space for large groups. One may easily spend 2 weeks at the site and the vicinity without getting bored. The organisation and staff is very accommodating. Hint: do not miss the introduction to the pizza-house by Michaela. Afterwards you'll become a real pizza chef and supply you and your group with a never ending stream of pizza!
In more detail about our trip:
Who: large group - 24 Adults, 11 Children -> a good mix of families, couples and singles.
When: End of August, staying 2 weeks
Site: Cascina Langa lays roughly on the top of the hills with a wonderful view over the Valle Bormida. You can book the total site for your group exclusively. The next neighbours are roughly 400 meters away, which was for our noisy group more than perfect! It is so much off the track, that some of us had problems to find it (Tip: make sure, that your GPS knows the small roads or simply follow the description given by the host: Giulia) The house(s) itself is an old restored farm house. The site is so big, that even with 35 people you'll find silent spots. It has up 13 bedrooms and 2 large kitchens - one at the ground floor and one at the 3rd level which exits directly into the hilly garden. In the upper section of the garden you'll find a fun area with a pool (bring a volleyball net to stretch it over the pool! ;) ), a small soccer place, and the pool house with table tennis, table soccer and a barbecue. Further, the upper garden has a wonderful view to the valley.
Down at the farmyard you'll find a small house which we enjoyed most: the pizza house with a large stone baking oven and some space to prepare your pizza. Michaela and Salvatore (staff of Giulia) showed us in a first joint session how to use the oven and prepare the pizza and the dough. So we're able to make the finest pizzas ourselves... and WE DID!
The organisation: Giulia gave us a lot of tips in advance! The pricing was very good and fair. All costs were given in advance, no hidden costs occurred in the final payment, only the already stated power/heating costs as well as damaged goods (which was also fair priced). Further you should ask Michaela for a good restaurant!
Vicinity: Visit farmer Mario (ca 400m away) for local food and wine!
The sea: is a bit away - ca. 45min via autostrada. We recommend Bergeggi - also for scuba diving.
Anything else: discover yourself!

Everything about La Cascina Langa and the people affiliated with it is special. From the initial emails that I received from the owner, and gracious host Giulia, to the final handing back of the house to her, with walk through, we had only positive and wonderful experiences. We were about 28 adults ages 17 through 65, and two babies, gathering from Germany and the USA to celebrate together (a birthday, and life). We could comfortably have been more people. The rooms were all prepared with taste and simplicity, containing exactly what you need for the week, and handed to us clean and welcoming. The bathroom facilities are plentiful and the kitchens are well equipped for just about any amount of people. The house is spacious and the stay then independent from the weather, and the house actually looks even nicer than the photos make you believe. Everything is set up thoughtfully and with precision. Very discreetly Giulia’s staff would regularly come during the week to maintain the building, grounds and pool. This is a very professional operation.
Giulia had set up for our neighbor (next farm uphill) Michela to come and bake us a pizza one evening, and she came with her lovely and supportive husband Salvatore. We had a fabulously delicious and entertaining pizza evening. Michela also has a remarkable voice, and so I asked whether she could sing and DJ for my birthday party. It ended up a spectacular evening thanks to her glorious and varied singing and music, and her empathy, giving her a great sense of what people would like to hear, sing, or dance to. We all are lifelong friends, yet rarely have we had such a lovely party together. I understand that Michela also cuts hair very well, and will arrive uncut next time. Mario (next farm downhill) provided vegetables and country wine, all very enjoyable.
Some of us did occasional daytrips (for instance to an extraordinary Piedmont winery that Giulia had recommended), but mostly we stayed around the house, cooked, swam, sang and simply had a great time. Leaving La Cascina Langa we all felt that we had spent one of the most wonderful and magical weeks of our life here. Some of this may have been us, but I assure you that La Cascina Langa will bring you a joyous time. All of us expressed the wish to return, and so we will.
