I liked the overall experience. The staff was nice. the room was private. the bath was also very good; it was a lovely experience being able to experience the ryoken bath experience. It was pretty standard ryoken and we did not eat there.
Walking to the local tourist spots was slightly difficult because the roads did not have sidewalks. Other than that, it was a good Ryoken and we enjoyed our stay.

Enjoyoed the experience of staying in a ryokan. The breakfast provided was nice, and it is convenient because the bus from Kawagoe station stops just outside the ryokan.
There is no lift in the ryokan so we have to carry the luggage up and down the small, steep steps.

Very near to all the Kawagoe's attraction places, we visited the attractions by walking. The breakfast is nice, it is a traditional Japanese breakfast. We had an hour to enjoy the private bath as well. The staff there are nice, and they allowed us to leave our luggage in the ryokan after we checked out.
There is no lift in the ryokan so we had to carry our huge luggage to the second floor from the stairs.

We loved staying at a Ryokan.
The staff was especially kind and welcoming.
Facility is clean and wonderful, too!!!
Not the property’s fault at all, but the weather was SO HOT when we visited.
Also, warning, restaurants close SUPER EARLY in this area, so plan for that!!!

The location was perfect.
There were only two baths. Bath times needed to be booked which meant we lost some flexibility.

Location is great. Just a min walk to the Kawagoe main street. Breakfast is nice. The hotel also has a restaurant onsite which offer wonderful dinner.
A steep and very narrow stair should be mentioned in the hotel detail.

The place had an amazing feeling to it, the place was spotless and the staff very helpful. It's located near the old town of Koedo in Kawagoe, accessible by foot in 2 minutes. The bath was a private bath which was very confortable for us foreigners unused to sharing a bath with strangers.
The room was very confortable with the fluffiest futon we encountered during our stay (even better than 5 stars hotels) and the breakfast was not to be missed.
We highly recommend this place to stay there, for this price we didn't expect so much !
The only problem we encountered was that free parking may be crowded, in that case a parking is available 30 meters away for 800 yen/day.

Very nice traditional ryokan in Kawagoe. It's a bit of a hike from the station, but the walk does take you through an interesting pedestrian shopping street. Conveniently for foreigners, instructions in English are posted all over the place at the ryokan. Highly recommended.

I have lived in Japan for 12 years and have traveled all over the country. Because of the amazingly reasonable price at Matsumura-ya, I was expecting a very low-budget shabby ryokan. BUT! This place was adorable! It was cute, clean, and managed to perfectly find that balance between traditional and modern. It was definitely a traditional ryokan, with tatami mat floors, futon beds, a shared onsen bath, and a shared restroom. But it had WiFi and bikes to borrow and just felt like "home." The staff was friendly but not invasive; the rooms were Japanese-spacious but cosy; the location was fabulous and right next to the cute part of town; and we were located riiiiight next to a delicious hamburger place called Honohono Burger. Like, it was proper in the sense that if you asked for a root beer float without ice, they would bring one out to you with no ice and a generous scoop of ice cream, and a can of actual A&W RootBeer. All in all, this ryokan exceeded all of my expectations and I would highly recommend it to other budget travelers.
The Wi-Fi was a bit weak, especially at night. But Wi-Fi aside, I loved everything about this place!
