Location, loved seeing the hens and roosters running around and flying up a tree at dinner time. Enjoyed snorkelling out from Papalagi until we snorkelled at the truly amazing snorkelling spots on nearby smaller islands.
Food. Prices unreasonably high being more expensive and less delicious compared with other Gili Gede resorts (we tried most of them). Even more expensive than on Gili Asahan (so the excuse about prices being high due to remoteness didn’t cut it). We were the only customers at the resort so way to much focus on us. We had to let owner know hours in advance what we would order for dinner which reduced our freedom of where we ate. When we were having dinner, the owner regularly joined us even when we tried to have a few romantic dinners at a small table by the sea. The pool was filthy and unusable when we arrived. We smelled and watched over the days loads of chlorine being put in pool right up to the day before we left- we did not even bother to try it. While we paid $110 (Aussie) per night for 7 nights incl breakfast, we noticed the price reduced nearly 40% while we were there. The entire time we stayed we did not have anyone clean the room or change the sheets. The bathroom smelled due to no S-bend in the sink plumbing. We also were unnecessarily exposed to island politics regarding which boatman to use. We walked all over the island which we loved and returned to a different resort for another week after a few days in Tetebatu.

Excellent place with really nice and hearty breakfast included. The rooms are fine with a good bathroom - I did not get a look at the bungalows, which are more expensive. Hir and the other staff are very helpful and friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The food is very good but expensive, as it probably is in all resorts in Indonesia. You can see the sunrise up on the hill behind the resort, which is a bit difficult to get to, but the sunsets are to die for. However, to me the main selling point was the coral reef, which was directly accessible from the beach: A short swim across the sea grass will take you to some healthy coral and a lot of fish. The water was not crystal clear but still great. Also, the 3 hour snorkel safari to 4 different sites was very good value for the money. The best of these places was really the northwest beach of Gili Gede, which you can also reach by foot; it features some amazing blue staghorn coral and lots of fish (and very clear water). Bruno, the sweet, young Rottweiler, is actually quite reserved, so you have to earn his friendship, meaning that if you would rather not engage with him, he will let you be.
The communication with the resort before my arrival was not optimal. I requested transportation by boat from Kokomo (the arrival point of the Gili Getaways ferry on the other side of Gili Gede) to the Papalagi resort and also got what I thought was a confirmation on WhatsApp. However, when I arrived, nobody was waiting, so I had to contact the resort again. The Kokomo restaurant was not the worst place to wait, so it did not really matter, but I am still not sure what went wrong. Some debris sometimes drifts onto the beach, depending on the current. When I was there, it was mostly in the evening, so it did not affect my snorkelling during the day. However, the employees are very concerned about it and try to influence stakeholders in Lombok and Bali to keep the water free of debris, although this may be an uphill battle.

I had an absolute wonderful stay with Michal and Hera. The room was nice and cozy, and the hosts made me feel home. Hera and Michal were very accomodating, ready to help me with anything I required to make my stay as pleasant as it could possibly be.
I absolutely liked food there, again they customized dishes for me. Breakfast there is incredible! I just loved pancakes they served.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have
amazing energy and do their best to speak English but also teach you some Indonesian.
As someone who is very sensitive to smell, I liked the smell of the bedsheets! They use a softener that smells amazing.
Absolutely loved it there! Thank you very much Hera and Michal!
It's not really about my stay but rather about the island. I wish there were more places to swim.

Hera and Michael are excellent hosts and did everything they could to make our stay remarkable. The food is delicious, the coconuts fresh and the resort perfectly located to watch the sun go down in between
This has nothing to do with the resort, but the island is subject to strong tides that greatly affect the opportunities for swimming and snorkeling.

The accommodations are very clean and comfortable, and there is a relaxing central dining / lounge area. The meals were top notch! Hera and Michael are very gracious hosts🤗. The view of the sunset from the beach is spectacular!

We loved that Papalagi was remote and away from the hustle and bustle. The sunset was quite an event. Having no cars was a relief from the frenetic noise of Bali traffic
You need to like remoteness - away from shops etc and in the heat a little hard to venture out. A swimming pool is being built and that would be fantastic as the beach is not for swimming but snorkeling as rocky and corally.

We had such a good time at Papalagi that we decided to extend our stay.
Michael and Hera made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. The were very friendly and helpful before, during and after our stay. Food was probably the best we had during our whole trip.
When we go back to Gili Gede, this is where we will stay.
