About this cottage rental
Relax literally cove side in this adorable and cozy cottage with close up views of Stonington Harbor, distant islands, and the active harbor vista of lobster boats, schooners and kayakers just outside your windows. The cottage interior offers a light-filled, open plan with beamed cathedral ceilings adding to a spacious feel. The simple yet well equipped kitchen opens to the living/dining area. The bedroom (queen bed) is off the living room (additional LR queen sleeper sofa, too). The bathroom has a spacious walk in shower. The cottage is water facing on two sides, and nice grassy yard and stone patio. Including the lot above, the setting provides one of the larger intown, waterfront properties on Stonington Harbor, with incredible views, and ample parking, too. A small footbridge crosses to the owner's adjacent property (Vrbo 30315) with easy access to kayaks and shorefront. With the harbor and array of nearby islands to explore, this property offers exceptional kayaking. Note: While there is an added sleeper sofa to accommodate a party of 4, the more open design of the cottage works best for 2. Likewise, there are steps leading to the cottage. Not appropriate for the infirm. Proximity to ocean and seawall makes it unsuitable for toddlers or young children.

Thank you for such an adorable stay at your cottage! It was close to everything needed and had a comfortable homey feel to the place. Loved the chairs by the water for morning coffee:)

We had a wonderful stay at your cottage on the harbor! We enjoyed the comforts of your well stocked, perfectly furnished home away!

Cute cottage on the harbor in small lobster fishing village. Not too very much to do in this village so 1 night would have been enough unless you just wany to chill and read a book or a puzzle. If that is the case you better bring your own as there are limited things to do at cabin! They could use some new puzzles - perfect place to sit in front of window with puzzle and watch lobster boats go by! Cottage clean and has all kitchen items you need. I did reach out to owner prior to our stay a couple of times with questions and she never responded so no communication there.

We really enjoyed our short stay in Stonington. The two nights went by too fast. We ate fresh lobster, and
The beauty of the bay.

My husband and I had a wonderful time. This cottage was comfortable and clean. Perfect for 2 adults. I will say it was a little hard to get our luggage and supplies in and out down the hill to the cottage. The host apparently supplies a wagon so make sure you make arrangements for it a head of time. We spent a few days over at Acadia but be ready for a fairly long drive. Enjoyed the town of Stonington. Thank you for sharing your property with us.

We loved our stay at this cottage. Just off Stonington’s downtown but an easy walk to everything. Cuter than the pictures. Very comfortable furnishings, well stocked kitchen. Barbara was very available to answer our questions and so kind. We would love to go back!

This is an adorable cottage, located perfectly for enjoying the Stonington harbor views and within walking distance to coffee and restaurants.

The cottage was perfect! Right on the water with amazing views. The host was great answering my calls/texts. The house had everything we needed!! It's completely stocked with everything. Very clean and cute as a button! We would highly recommend.

Loved our stay! Cottage was adorable and right on the harbor. Beautiful views. We took a ferry ride to Isle Au Haut and rode our bikes through Acadia National Park. Downtown was adorable and had a couple wonderful dinners out. Highly recommend!

This is an adorable cozy cottage. It was a perfect get a way for me and my husband.

The cottage was the perfect getaway for us. Barbara was very kind and accessible. The views from the cottage were wonderful and the town itself was beautiful! I would recommend this place to anyone!
4.7
Adorable little cottage on the water. It is overlooking the lobster boats bobbing in the bay and Isle a Haut on the horizon. Easy walk to town while still in a quiet neighborhood setting.
4.7
Wonderful cozy cottage! Walking distance is a small (extremely small) main st area that has fantastic small town charm. Several dining options in town (with many more a drive away), along with a great restaurant only a few houses down from the cottage. For those that choose to eat in, the cottage is ready for you to put your culinary skills to work, filled with cookware just like home. While small and not meant for large groups this cottage is great for a couples get away or a small family looking to get away from the hustle and bustle. Great view of the harbor and islands. My only regret has nothing to do with the cottage itself and that was missing the Spring Fling at the Opera House which is also in walking distance. Looking forward to a future stay in such a wonderful area.

I stayed in this cottage for one night, and I had a very peaceful time. Unfortunately, all of the local restaurants were closed due to staffing shortages, so I couldn't really venture out and get a feel for the area. I was, however, able to pick up a fresh pizza at the well stocked local market right when I checked in to the cottage. Owners, who live on the property in a separate home, gave me free access to their garden. Yummy cherry tomatoes! It was rainy and cold, but the cottage was cozy and had many amenities to make the stay very comfortable. I loved watching the working harbor in action. If I could, I would stay here for a week or two and really recharge. Owners were readily available and responsive. Highly recommend!

Quaint, clean, and well stocked cottage right on Stonington ,Harbor! They did not get a five because of check- in mixup.
We will book again next fall!

We were impressed with the cleanliness and furnishings of the house. In many rentals we often find furniture and kitchen items to be inexpensive items that fill the need and not much more. In this case the furnishings were antiques that appeared to have been maintained and loved by the owner. The kitchen had everything we could have wanted. The location is a short walk to town and at the same time a quiet place to watch boats, kayakers and birds. This is a great place!

My husband and I loved our week in this quaint, cozy cottage. Watching the fishermen leave and return each day, kayaking in the harbor, sleeping better than we have in years! Loved every minute. Cottage had everything we needed. Bed was super comfy. Traveled to Acadia and Bar Harbor one day, easy to do! Would definitely stay again! Host was available and helpful! Great place!

Barbara was an excellent host & very helpful with things to do during off season when most everything was closed. The cottage was right on the water with great views of the harbor & lobster boats. It was very comfortable and well stocked. Great visit to Stonington!

Owner lives in property and is very courteous and helpful. Great location - walk to the restaurants, shops and ferry.

It’s just like it says: a rustic cottage located just above the water and looking out on a very busy working watermen community coming and going on their lobster boats. Everything you need is available. Just a short walk into the town and very quiet at night under the stars. Barbara very helpful and friendly. We’ll go back again!

Barbara was present when we arrived at the property. Although it was as advertised and very nice, she felt our group might be more comfortable at an adjacent property that she also owned which was more spacious. She allowed us to use the bigger house instead and checked in with us throughout the day to make sure that everything went well. This is a very kind and thoughtful host! The properties locations are excellent and they are very well equipped..

We loved our week in the little red caboose. The cottage had everything we needed and then some. Plenty of storage in drawers, cabinets and lots of space for hanging clothes. Stonington is a great location with easy walking to restaurants and shops. The ferry to Isle au Haut is a two minute walk. We could have used an extra day to finish the puzzle so we’ll have to come back next year. 🙃

Beautiful town. Great location. Bought lobsters straight off the dock and Barbara had everything we needed to cook and eat them ourselves

Thanks for the lovely stay. I love the peace and quiet Stonington offers, and watching the tides and the busy lobster boats is wonderful. Thanks for letting me share with my hubby.

Cottage is nice enough. We arrived to find a few issues:
-Pile of damp towels on the floor of bathroom
-no toilet paper anywhere
-cable tv not working
-WiFi information is outdated and you have to get it from the router.
-high voltage wires hanging out of the wall in the bathroom
There were enough clean towels to get us through so I didn’t even complain. I’m here to have a good time and trying not to let the little things bother me. I message the property manager through vrbo (only contact method available) and and let them know there’s no toilet paper, asking if I may have missed a hidden storage location. I never received a response and still haven’t. It’s been a week. Luckily we have a 16 month old child and always carry plenty of baby wipes so we made due using those and throwing them in the trash.
I’m not on vacation to watch TV so I didn’t care much about the cable being out.
I’m not 100% sure the sheets had been washed because there were people shaped impressions in them.
The can opener on site was really gross and obviously had never been cleaned. While scrubbing that with the ancient decaying dish brush all of the bristles were breaking off and flying everywhere. One of the bristles that broke just so happened to fly directly into my eye which hurt like a mother even after getting the piece out. Took about 12 hours to feel mostly normal. I threw the pos brush away.
As our stay went on I realized that most of the furniture in this place was broken. Some labeled “please don’t use” some not.
The couch has obviously never been cleaned as there is a MASSIVE amount of crumbs, hair, change, ballpoint pen etc between the cushions.
“Spacious walk in shower” is smaller than the one in my RV. Got the job done but shouldn’t be advertised as spacious lol.
You may be wondering why despite all of these issues/annoyances am I giving a 3 star review? Well I came here for the proximity to the ocean and to have a nice anniversary getaway with my wife and child. Each of our 3 mornings we took 2 of the provided kayaks and explored the area and had a lot of fun doing it (we brought our own life jackets and didn’t see any on site) We also drove around and explored the area and enjoyed that as well. 3 nights was perfect for us as we felt we got to experience everything stonington/deer isle had to offer. One more day and we would have been bored.
Fun little cottage that could use a few hours of TLC and a better cleaner/property manager.

We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It had everything that we needed and was well kept. I highly recommend for a quiet, relaxing getaway.

the property was excellent, my father is 85 and goes with a walker, he did not have any problem entering or exiting the property. He loved that he could sat at the table and watch the activities on the ocean just feet away. We meet a lobsterman, and bought right off the boat. We meet Barbara, She asked if we needed anything to let her know, but we are easy going and was very pleased with the overall vacation. Thank you, we will come again.

We went away to enjoy being by the ocean while we got some work done. And we got what we'd hoped for. The cottage was cozy, comfortable and well-equipped...even the kitchen (which was great because we love to cook). The front side is all windows and they face the harbor so we could sit at the table with the breeze blowing in and eat, work, & visit while boats came and went. (Lots of fishing & sail boats moored right there.) In the morning we watched the sunrise from the bedroom...again, with the breeze blowing in. It was perfect for what we wanted. Only thing less than perfect was a lack of designated outdoor space...like a deck or patio. But the cottage sits almost literally on the water so, with all the windows, we didn't feel removed from the outdoors. Also, tho the view and feel of the harbor were lovely and inspiring (we counted 20+ islands within sight), it is of a working harbor section of the bay. A couple fisheries off to the sides. And the village is also right there. So not in the middle of nowhere if that's what you want. But it was wonderful. An inspiring get-away. We plan to go back again and again!

This was our second year in a row at this cottage and loved every minute of it. It has everything you need for a peaceful or active vacation, or both.... whichever you are looking for! Walking to the lobster pound, several restaurants and the Opera House are definite pluses.

very nice

The cottage location, on the quay, provides a comfortable front row view of the lobsterman’s life. It also puts you within walking distance to great restaurants and shops. Clean, comfortable and charming.

Spectacular view. Interior was very pleasant and comfortably furnished. Barbara was very responsive to any concerns we had.

This is a lovely, charming cottage. Well Appointed and very comfortable in all regards. I had a wonderful stay and would love to come back!

Property: The location is exceptional - right ON the water, stunning views, darling village, friendly people, kayaks to explore the coast and islands, very quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Mornings and evenings were spent outside the back door enjoying the sunrise and sunset with coffee/tea and then cocktails. We took advantage of many of the hiking trails and local eateries. We especially liked the Cockatoo Portuguese Restaurant. Cell phone service is lousy, but we actually enjoyed that! There is wireless internet.
The cottage could have been cleaner. The coffee pot was very dirty and there were dust bunnies and dead insects on the floors. The interior had clearly been updated recently, and it is charmingly decorated.
Owner: Barbara was a bit of a handful to deal with. First of all, we were charged a higher price than shown by the calendar on the listing. When asked, she claimed that it is normal to charge more for summer and less than one week stays. This reasoning is not noted anywhere on the property description, and we felt it was quite deceptive. The rest of our family was staying in the Grist Mill property, so we bit the bullet and paid the higher price. Barbara did not respond to a phone call or email asking to talk further about this.
Most properties we have rented have some kind of folder or notebook with helpful information about the property, phone numbers, trash pick up, check out procedures, etc. There was nothing like this in the cottage. We understand that some of that was on the website, but trying to access that on a smartphone was a challenge.
All in all, we did love our stay, mostly because of the location and that our family was all on the same property.
