beautifully maintained and decorated in a classic postcolonial style with beautiful furniture and fixtures. The beer garden is also compelling, shaded by large trees, and the basement brewery and it works evoke earlier times with beamed ceilings and stone walls, with a large fireplace at the end.

As much experienced guests with awarded Booking.com Gold Status we are expressing our greatest disappointment and resentment with our stay at “Hopkins Ordinary Bed, Breakfast and Ale” The level of accommodation and service does not go the least answer unreasonably high room rates. The attitude of the host was unwelcome to such an extent that it made us feel as if he was doing us a favour by just letting us in. Unfortunately the weather conditions prevented us from continuing our bike journey and we were forced to stay another night at this hotel. While we were making the necessary arrangements at the reception in the morning to prolong our stay for another day, the check out time being 11 a.m. we found our rooms locked with the warning to be helped out if we didn't vacant the rooms instantly. Moreover, the host obviously took advantage of our desperate situation and demanded a higher payment for the extra night in cash and without any proper receipt. We definitely felt deceived, abused and humiliated. Breakfasts announced as exceptional turned out to be ordinary granola with yoghurt. When we mentioned that the hotel was obviously overpriced compared even to five star hotels it Washington DC, the host made it clear to us that since we knew the way to that city, why didn't we go there straight away. Overall, it is not recommended to stay in this hotel at any time and at any weather for that matter either. This hotel is to be avoided at any cost.

The B&B is perfectly located for exploring the North/Central Shenandoah valley, and it is also very close to some of the nicest restaurants in North Virginia. The owners are lovely, and they prepare excellent breakfast that exceeded our expectations!

Sound proofing across rooms is not the best, but perhaps this is to be expected when you're staying in an old victorian country house. Everything else was great!
