The cabins were a little outside of town so it was quiet but easy access to town. The location was great for all the attractions. It was a short driving distance to a lot of sites.

We enjoyed our stay. The property was just as advertised. It was quiet and peaceful with a great view. We had contact with the owners who inquired if there was anything we needed. We had plenty of towels and kitchen essentials to accommodate our needs. We would recommend this cabin to all.

Great location, and the accommodations were relaxing. However, on sunny days when it reaches over 90 degrees, time spent in the cabin in the afternoon gets uncomfortable until the sun goes down. We did schedule our time outside of the cabin from around 4 until 7, usually out for dinner on those hot sunny days. When evening rolled around, the temp dropped, and with all of the fans moving, the cool evening air around in the cabin made for comfortable sleeping. Other than that, it was a great location, and would come back again.

The property was clean and in good location off the beaten path. Several cooking items were left behind from past guests which was nice so we didn't have to go out and purchase them for our short stay. There were bathroom toiletries also, which we didn't use but it was nice to know they were there just in case. Also, the diary of previous guests was fun to read and learn about the area.

Great 4th of July stay, but HOT.
Our family (2 adults, 3 kids, 2 dogs) stayed at the cabin for 5 days during the 4th of July weekend. I knew from the listing that there wasn't air conditioning but I wasn't prepared for just how hot it would get from 3 pm to about 11 pm. We are from New Mexico where temps over 100 degrees are normal and I grew up in Michigan so I know what humidity feels like too and it was just too hot for us.
We were in cabin #3 and this cabin is south-facing with a very large window near the peak of the A-frame roof. This window doesn't have any curtain or shades and is not reachable without a large ladder. This window was the entire reason the cabin gets so hot during the evening. The sun shines through it for a few hours and just bakes the inside. If there was the ability to cover the window through these hours (automatic shades etc.) the comfort level would increase significantly and the heat would decrease significantly. During our trip, I had to stay inside for a few hours each evening to work on my nursing school work, and even just sitting at the table, I would be sweating and was just overheated.
Everything else was expected during our stay. The cabin could use a bit of updating and extra cleaning as there were pans with food and grease still stuck on it and the fans were caked with dust. However, the location is beautiful and the owners are very nice. If they could fix the issue of how hot it gets, we would come back!

Peaceful place!
Owners are fabulous and the place was perfect. While it is off the main drag of Custer, we preferred that for the quietness. Nice space, updated furniture.

Family vacation
We really enjoyed our stay at this cabin. It was clean, had everything we needed and its location was great. Having little kids, it was nice to be close to all the sites and hot spots (Custer, Hill City, Mt Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, etc)
Thank you

Awesome
This was the perfect cabin for our week long stay and had everything we needed besides groceries. The hosts are super friendly and we enjoyed visiting with them. The area is quite and boasts a great view from the deck. We loved having a few fires in the rock fire pits they had for each cabin and enjoyed being able to grill out on the deck. My husband and kids enjoyed the challenge of climbing the hill behind the cabins as well. We will definitely be booking again in the future.

Great cabin, great location
This is our second week long stay and we enjoyed it again. Nice, clean, with amenities we wanted. We toured all day and then most nights came back and cooked supper. There is a great grocery store in Custer. Great central location in the Black Hills. Couldn’t be happier.

Fabulous!
Beautiful surroundings. Nice set up of 5 cabins yet still plenty private. Perfect cabin for at least 6 people. No air conditioning but it cooled down enough at night that we were always comfortable even with daily highs in mid 80s.

Fabulous place to stay!
We stayed 8 days and this was a perfect central location for everything in the Black Hills. We were close to town for groceries and restaurants but remote enough for beautiful scenery and deer walking on the lawn every morning and evening. All major roads for sight seeing lead to Custer, whether you are heading to Mt Rushmore, Custer State Park, Hot Springs, or the Northern Hills and Spearfish Canyon. We also drove to WY and that is just a right turn at the end of Little Italy Road and a lovely drive through Jewel Cave Park. We did a lot of logging roads in search of CCC Camps and the Custer location couldn’t have been better for that.
The cabin was a perfect size for sleeping, cooking, and relaxing. To save $ we cooked every breakfast and a few suppers. There was just enough equipment in the kitchen for convenience without tempting us to get elaborate with our meals. And then relax with a little Perry Mason after a long day of sight seeing. Really a perfect cabin experience: nice and clean like a hotel, but still rustic and lovely views. We highly recommend this cabin to other Black Hills tourists!

It is a lovely property. The kids loved counting how many deer we would see every evening up and down the road.

Weekend Getaway
What a great place to stay for exploring the Black Hills. Close to park entrances, the Mickelson Trail, and so much more. Wildlife right out your door. Our family of six stayed comfortably for the weekend. Beth and her husband were so welcoming and accommodating. From check in to check out everything went smoothly.

very comortable and great location
The cabin at Elk Haven was very comfortable. The living room furniture was comfy for reading & TV. There was charcoal for the grill (a great plus!) and the kitchen was well stocked with pans/skillets/salt/pepper, as well as plenty of bathroom linens. The only issue we had was the light coming in the windows. It seemed to get light around 4:30 a.m. and since we are early risers, the light made it difficult to sleep late (umm, vacation...). Blinds would've been nice in the bedroom and bathroom, also to provide a little more privacy in those 2 rooms. The location was perfect for the different activities we had planned for our week (Crazy Horse Memorial, Devil's Tower, horse back riding, the Badlands & grilling). We would definitely stay here again!
