About this apartment rental
21 Rue de l’Aigle d’Or .. Carcassonne
The apartment is in a listed building overlooking the historic Place Carnot, dating from 1260, with its famous plane trees, fountain, cafes & picturesque market. Fantastic view of everything that takes place in the square. The market takes place Tuesdays, Thursday. Saturday market has moved to the outskirts of the Bastide .. I send you the information when you book.
Grandstand view of all the festivals and other events. One minute walk from shops, cafes, restaurants, brasseries, ATMs etc. We overlook the town square, though it is mostly traffic free, with just the hubbub of cafes, restaurants and shops. Short walk to the Canal du Midi & the fabulous medieval Cite, & numerous excellent restaurants. 5 minute walk to bus and railway stations. Troubadour is beautifully & comfortably furnished & equipped, in a very French style. The apartment has a fully equipped kitchen and the pantry is well stocked with basics for you. There is also a washing machine and drier.
The apartment is luxurious and romantic, and will have everything that you need.
It is on the 2nd floor… the ground floor is cafes , then you need to come up 2 floors to the apartment .. it is a typical French spiral staircase.. not too many steps !
Further details: Direct flights to Carcassonne from UK, Troubadour is 7 minutes from the airport. Wonderful holiday summer or winter (heating is included) -& you don't need a car.
Local festivals - the summer: The Carcassonne Festival takes place throughout July, both in the Cité and in the Bastide St. Louis. Many of the events take place in the Place Carnot and can be viewed from the apartment. The programme contains opera, dance, theatre, jazz, salsa, country and western and other concerts, folklore, street-theatre and comedy. If you don't fancy a rock concert in the Place Carnot, go up to the Cite for some opera. In August a re-enactment of the days of the troubadours takes place. Knights and horses in full costume, along with processions of jugglers, acrobats, mime artists, gymnasts, dancers and musicians will entertain you with jousting and processions. There is an organ festival that takes place from mid-June to mid-September, with concerts on the famous organ at the Basilica of Saint-Nazaire in the Cite. And on Bastille Day (14th July) there is a truly spectacular firework display - the Cité looks as though it is being set on fire with 25 minutes of fireworks.
Local festivals - the rest of the year: There is a Christmas market in the Place Carnot with a stage, a skating rink (3 euros an hour!) with a huge ice spectacular one of the evenings, artificial icicles on the fountain, and artificial snow on Christmas trees and the wooden stalls. There is a huge ferris wheel with views of the town and Cite just outside the Bastide walls, sledging, trampolines, fireworks and many other activities including the Foie Gras fair the Sunday before Christmas. It is quite magic, and clients who have been there over Christmas have been enchanted.
There are three big fairs in Carcassonne during the year, on 6th March, 6th September and the Fair of Ste Catherine on 25th November. These fairs are huge events, with crafts and produce from the region and elsewhere. The Dame Carcas Pig Fair is at the beginning of March and at the end of March there are the antique fairs. The flea market takes place in September each year in the streets of La Trivalle, the district directly underneath the Cite.
Troubadour a 1 bedroom apartment with a bathroom with bath, basin & WC, & spacious living room with ample kitchen area at one end. It is a classy apartment with quality furniture and equipment, silk curtains, & much more. The bedroom is romantic, with off-white painted French furniture and a lacy half tester above the bed. Living room furniture includes a comfortable elegant sofa, beautiful cabinet, & traditional polished inlaid wooden dining table with tapestry chairs. There are beautiful mirrors & prints around the rooms, all contributing to the general effect of a smart Parisian apartment. There is a stunning view over the Place Carnot. There is a modern bathroom, & utility room with washing machine and drier. The bathroom has a 3/4 size bath with a shower … because it is a small apartment , we couldn’t have a full size bath..
All windows overlook the Place Carnot & have traditional shutters. Ideal for a romantic holiday, or as a base to explore provincial France.
We have a detailed information book in the apartment. The air con goes via window due to heritage listing. Not allowed on roof , alas

Perfect place for a short break.Appartment well equipped including beach towels. You are at the centre of activity and can get around on the local buses for next to nothing. We didn’t have a car but managed to visit all the main attractions by foot or bus. Transfer by bus from the airport was very short then a short walk to the apartment. The owner Kaye was easy to contact and ample information in the apartment about places to visit. Great break at a great apartment and location . We are a couple in our late 60’s but found it had something for all age groups

We enjoy being right on the Square. Where all the action is. Kaye is a terrific hostess, leaving detailed directions to everything inside the apartment, the immediate neighborhood, and the surroundings. We do not have a car, so I do not have an opinion on parking facilities. I am sure Kaye has the information.
Supermarket, pharmacies, cafés, and outdoor activities are all within short walking distance. The World Heritage sites of the medieval city La Cité de Carcassonne and the Canal de Midi are a short walk away. Outdoor walks around the Aude River are beautiful, flat, peaceful, and a few minutes walk from your front door.
When we needed a taxi, we called Taxi Carcassonne. They have taxis available on call. Call the night before to arrange pickup at specific times.
Thank you Kaye for helping us have a wonderful stay.

We stayed for two weeks and used this as a base to travel to a few other places as well as enjoying the village life of the Bastide. It is certainly a great place to just chill out and feel a bit French.

This place had everything we needed for a great stay. Centrally located , very French and easy walk to La Cite. The information booklet left in the room was invaluable, especially the “easy” route to La Cite.Definitely recommend staying here.

Highly recommend this apartment. Our stay here was fantastic! We were so happy when we walked inside and looked around. The apartment is clean, comfortable and well decorated. It seems the owners have thought of everything, including a binder with everything we needed to know about the apartment, appliances, the neighborhood, and places to visit.
The location is central and very convenient. The windows have a great view overlooking the square with its many restaurants. We stayed 5 nights, walking throughout the town and taking day trips in the car.
Parking the car was super easy and safe in the paid parking garage straight south of the apartment. The attendant there helped us buy a cheap pass for the week.
Communication with our host was awesome, and we appreciated the wine upon our arrival. We will definitely stay here again.

I really enjoyed my stay in Kaye's lovely apartment which definitely added to the whole experience of life in the Languedoc area. This was further enhanced by the very helpful notes left by Kaye which I referred to many times. All the amenities were within walking distance, including the main railway station, countless shops & cafes and a very helpful Tourist Information office.
The icing on the cake for me was my night spent dancing with the locals on Place Carnot during what was their annual music festival which takes place during the month of July.
An experience not to be forgotten!

Perfect Location and Space for a Couple to enjoy the Cafe Society of the Town Square outside the Window or to use as a base for exploring the Region.
Kaye’s communication was exemplary, before and during the Stay.
The Apartment wants for nothing. A/C was on as we arrived, ice in the Fridge with Wine and Beer, full complement of Utensils etc and condiments in the Kitchen. Toiletries well stocked in the Bathroom, Bed Linen options available.
The File detailing Assistance, Instructions and Recommendations is 5 Star!
Carcassonne and the surrounding Area is much more than just the Magical Medieval Citè and local Buses and Trains are very cheap.
Restaurants are quality but reasonably priced.
I highly recommend Troubador Apartment and the City alike for a your next short break.

We had a great stay in Carcassonne and at the apartment, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. It’s very close to the train statin, the castle and the canal du midi. There’s also plenty of bars and restaurants close by.

We stayed here for 1 month it was a perfect base to explore the South of France and enjoy Carcassonne. The apartment is well appointed and is very well equipped with everything you need to feel at home. Lynda the house keeper was very helpful and on hand for any questions. One thing worth noting as this is a preservation area they are not allowed to put in air conditioning units. They do however have a small plug in unit which was ok as the weather was quite clammy during our visit. As long as you remember to put a bucket at the back by the out hose. The location on square is quite vibrant and you felt as if you are in the heart of The Baside the music festival was about to get underway for the month of July. There is always something happening there which we really enjoyed.

The apartment lies in an excellent location a few blocks walk from the train station and Canal and overlooking the central plaza. The host communicated very clearly and promptly. Being able to open the windows over the plaza and let the breeze in was a delight. All required amenities were included.

Farmers Mkt 3 days a week, sounds of living drift up from the plaza (which we enjoyed), pharmacy & grocery right on the plaza, great restaurants and shops too. You could hunker down and never leave the Plaza if you wanted to! Keeping the car in a car park apart from where we were staying and walking back and forth, unloading and loading luggage was a little inconvenient, as well.
5.0
Everything you could possibly need is provided in the apartment. There was even a bottle of fresh milk in the refrigerator for us on arrival as well as a bottle of wine and two glasses waiting on the table. Very detailed guide book for the apartment as well as the surrounding area.

Fantastic apartment overlooking Place Carnot. The location is superb with places of interest well within walking distance. Communication with Kaye was excellent and she was quick to respond to any questions we may have had. Would highly recommend this apartment to anyone looking for a quality stay in Carcassonne.

Excellent stay here and very central. The apartment contained all we needed and was very well equipped including all we needed for cooking even though we ate out each evening. We arrived very early but could still get in unlike hotels with very strict check in times. Overlooking Place Carnot we enjoyed all the activity and were not at all bothered with the occasional noises! The only slight downside was that the apartment could do witha deep clean but I would not let this put me off staying again. Many thanks for the very friendly welcome Kaye.

Absolutely lovely little apartment. Well equipped and traditional. Located in a central square which was very lively with free concerts as part of the Festival de Carcassonne. Great location for access to the railway station and other amenities.
The Cite de Carcassonne is just fantastic. Hope to visit again and explore further afield!

Wonderful location at Place Carnot, close to lots of eateries and shopping. Also within 25 min walk to the medieval city. The building is quaint and the apartment is a great landing spot for 1-2 people. Amenities I especially appreciated included a Nescafé machine, access to a washing machine, and several electric fans to help manage the heat. (The downside in summer is that it can get extremely hot! Opening the windows is an option, but the nightlife is quite noisy and streetcleaning in the early morning is pretty boisterous. Otherwise, the hostess is very communicative and helpful.

Delightful porperty in a great location
The property is well kept, and beautifully furnished. There were many things prepared for our arrival - fresh milk, a bottle of wine, various teas, coffees and condiments. All furnishings and bedding were clean and in good condition. The location in the central square - Place Carnot above a cafe could not have been better. All tourist attractions and restaurants (of which there are many) are within walking distance, as is the train station with access to many Southern France destinations. I can recommend this appartment as the ideal base for exploring the delights of Carcassonne and even further afield. I hope to return one July to get involved with the Annual Music Festival. The owner Kaye is very communicative, and with written guides to the local area as well as the property itself. Top Marks!

Lovely apartment
The apartment is in a great location and has everything you could possibly need. Kaye provided lots of helpful information before my trip and the information guides in the apartment were really useful during my stay.
Be aware that there is some noise from the square (Place Carnot) in the early morning due to street cleaning, however the location and the apartment itself makes up for this.

Very nice apartment for people with a romantic and cosy and warm soul. My son did not like the style but did not hate it as well. He is 25 years old and he is very modern in his chosing. I am 63 and It felt very good for me. I did like the style.
For me it was a good stay. I only had some problem to find the adress at VRBO.
It was nice from Kaye to share books and DVD 's but I was out so much that I could not enjoy them. Maby later sometime.
I had a good stay.
Thanks and warm greetings,
Rita.

Lovely decorated apartment in an amazing location
We stayed for 9 nights and had a great time in Carcassonne. The apartment is as shown in country French style with a comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and space to relax and dine. The washing machine was useful. Access is easy from the back and then the apartment itself overlooks Place Carnot. This is a very convivial square with cafes and restaurants. A little early morning noise from the street cleaners but not a problem.
There are more places to choose to eat in the town than the fortified Cite. Everything is in easy walking distance, shops, Canal du Midi, River Aude and so on We used trains and buses to explore further afield e.g. Toulouse, Beziers, Limoux.

This charming appartment had everything we needed and more. Communication with Kaye was excellent from beginning to end, and I especially appreciated the booklet with insider tips on visiting the area!

Quintessentially French town center apt
Outstanding location if you like the sights and sounds of a quaint, quintessentially French town center plaza. We do and we loved it. It's small and furnished as many French homes might be. It has just enough space for a couple to enjoy a Carcassonne getaway. Kaye has made sure that there are all the essentials for cooking but there are restaurants all over the place within seconds (not minutes) walk. She even has English channels on TV for the times in the morning or at night when you want to relax indoors. Paid street parking is right there and parking garages are underground and was five mintues away at a cost of only 7 euros per day.

superb central apartment
Travelled all over europe and this apartment was the best equipped. Also Info pack is fantastic. wifi is fast and all areas are clean. Security, hot water, electrics and shower are all really good. Right on Place Carno - there are outdoor restaurants right under your windows but those directly outside all close in the early evening. (August 2020). Thanks.

A beautiful apartment in a superb location
This apartment is so very French, so very beautiful and so very conveniently located. The furnishings are appropriate, the apartment itself is cleanly presented and superbly equipped. I would recommend without hesitation.

Loved our stay in Troubadour. So well equipped very central. One small point maybe put in details entrance door is in street before Place Carnot. Would not hesitate to return or recommend to friends.

Very good location off a central plaza. Everything you need and good walking distance to the old city, a must see. Good food and a nice place, it’s obvious that someone takes pride in their home, very nice furnishings and many nice little extra touches. I do recommend Kaye’s place! I had a bit of a hard time finding the place even with the well provided information, might have been the 20 plus hours of traveling, if you show the address to one of the street cleaners they will get you there, even if you don’t speak French. Lovely location with nice touches, give it a try. Thanks,Darren

Perfect vacation apartment
This was the perfect place to stay in Carcassonne. It was just the right size for us, beautifully decorated, and had everything we needed. We loved staying right on the Place Carnot and being in the middle of things. Will definitely come back!

Great property
Everything was great. The location is excellent. Kaye left very detailed instructions and suggestions on local activities. Restaurants and shopping are in easy walking distance. We had a car and made several day trips. The parking garage is a 10 minute walk and is secure. We would recommend this apartment without reservation.

Beautifully appointed and ideally located
This apartment, on the central square, was ideal for our first visit to Carcassonne. Just a few minutes walk from the station, around a quarter of an hour from the old city, and convenient for restaurants, shops and bars, the location could not have been better.
The larder was well stocked for our arrival and we found everything we needed in the way of cooking utensils and cleaning materials. A wealth of information about the area was provided (which made getting about so much easier for us) along with a bookcase full of other books.
We would happily recommend this apartment to anyone wishing to visit Carcassonne or the surrounding area and are hoping to enjoy it's homely and comfortable atmosphere ourselves once more in the future.

Troubadour is an adorable apartment in the heart of a the city of Carcassonne
Troubadour
Adorable apartment overlooking the center square. It is large enough for two and very charming. The apartment is in an excellent location. One can walk to shops, grocery stores, bakeries, hair salons, pharmacies and gyms. It’s a seven minute walk to the main train station, 20 minutes to the old city of Carcassonne. We walked or jogged every day on the river or the canal starting and ending at our front door.
We found the apartment with a well equipped the kitchen. The owner left coffee, tea and chocolate for that first day and we cooked our own meals most days. The grocery store is 100 meters from the apartment. We liked having the washer and dryer. The owner has left a very good book with local information and dozens of brochures, which we found very helpful.
We rented over the Christmas holiday. The square had become a skating rink and was very nicely decorated. We expected city center sounds, but not the loud techno music that played every day from 4 to 10 PM. It was so loud that the windows were vibrating. The owner has since spoken to the municipal authorities, but caveat emptor if renting between December 7 and January 7 in the future. My 4 star rating does not reflect this seasonal nuisance.
Other small drawbacks are no elevator, which we did not mind; a very narrow tub (made for people who didn't eat as much Cassoulet as I did) and a surprisingly hard mattress. The apartment owner was very kind and attentive when I brought this up. Apparently, no one else had commented about the mattress, so it may be a "me" thing. If you like soft mattresses, it may be a good thing to ask.
We were here in the off-season. The restaurants around the square are open during limited hours and it took a couple of days to figure out what time we should go to lunch or dinner. Taxis were difficult to find without prior planning. Do not expect to walk out the door and hail a cab. Even the train station may not have taxis at certain times. We left several private taxi numbers who offered us good service in case anyone needs one in the future.
Thanks to Kaye for her attentive, quick and helpful exchange before, during and after our stay.

wonderful apartment in Carcassonne.
Overall a great apartment rental in Carcassonne. Very well located at the center of the "new" city, La Bastide St. Louis. Good amenities, comfy bed, nicely stocked fridge and pantry. Fast internet for showing off you amazing pictures to family and friends back home. Good welcome booklet of activities and information on the apartment and Carcassonne. The only slight negative is noise. The square below, Place Carnot, can be noisy at any time of day or night, between revelers at night, trash trucks in the wee hours, or the sunrise call of the crows. Otherwise, perfect. Thanks for a great place to stay in a fascinating city and region of France.

Our nice retreat on Plaza Carnot
Kaye’s apartment is right on the square a beautiful spot to enjoy Carcassonne.
Her apartment is just like the pictures and could not be in any better spot to walk to Cite and enjoy the views.
Kaye has put together a wonderful book on different sightseeing ideas and a good guide for whole area.
She has a library of guide books and maps that we found very useful.
Her suggestion led us to Toulouse which we enjoyed very much.
We did not cook in apartment but you could easily and watch the world go bye!
Only warning is restaurant close very early, 9:00 or so, but that said many choices around apartment and a very good cheese and bakery shop across plaza .
Would return again if ever back to Carcassonne,

Beautiful appointment in a perfect location
We had a wonderful week in Carcassonne celebrating our Ruby Wedding Anniversary. We loved the apartment and the atmosphere of the Place Carnot, lots of coffee bars and restaurants, all very friendly and laid back. We enjoyed exploring the town, went by train to Limoux and visited the Citadel on several occasions which was truly magnificent. On our anniversary we had a meal at Hotel de la Cite, delicious food and fantastic service, could not have been better, would highly recommend. All in all a wonderful week.
