About this cabin rental
Simplicity and peace in mad times! A residential island an hour from the CBD yet it feels like another world. Watch the sunrise over the escarpment rising above the glorious Hawkesbury River and drift off to sleep to the rhythm of gently lapping waves. Come by ferry, water taxi or tinny to our jetty. Curl up with a book, bushwalk, birdwatch, throw in a line or stroll down to the cafe for coffee. Perfect for writers, artists, boaters, photographers and nature lovers. Recharge and make memories!
The space
A unique restored private cabin right on the water. Recent renovations have respected the character of this rustic cabin. The cabin has air-conditioning electric blankets, high-quality linen, ensuite bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, with full stove and cooktop, fridge, microwave and other appliances. There is a private balcony overlooking the river and downstairs another large shady deck with deck chairs where you can relax and hang out and a third small deck to the side which is like a little treehouse.
Use the jetty if you are bringing your boat or would like to go fishing off the jetty. Please note jet skis and large boats can not be accommodated-
The cabin is three jetties down from Bradley's beach and a short walk to the Cafe, Bowling Club, and main ferry wharf.
Ideal for relaxing, swimming, walking, chilling, writing and dreaming.
Views you would not believe! You will fall in love with this unique little home - it has a sense of simplicity and everything you need to just live.
Enjoy the bush, birdwatching, cloud watching, river gazing and the stars at night! Leave your car on the mainland and take a complete break from your hectic lifestyle.
There is one open plan living space with a queen size comfy bed.
Take the ferry over to Brooklyn and enjoy the cafes and seafood restaurants.
The main train from the CBD meets the ferry and regularly runs throughout the week.
If you want space to breathe and get back in touch with the rhythms of nature, this is the holiday you need. It's gentle pace, it's light, its expansive views! So special and the comforting thing is it's yours when you need it!
Guest access
Private use of cabin and downstairs waterfront deck. Shared access to the garden, private jetty, and pontoon. (As it is a water access property we need to use the jetty as well ) Use of our pontoon to moor small boats , our tandem kayak, life jackets and fishing gear by arrangement when not in use.
Interaction with guests
You will have the place to yourself and if we are not there we are only a text message or a call away.
Happy to have a chat about things to do and see on the Hawkesbury River or leave you to discover it all for yourselves. Our place is a long way up the hill from the Boatshed so you have your privacy.
Other things to note
We have fishing gear, a tandem kayak and life jackets that we have been known to share with guests who ask us very nicely :) the kayak is very popular with guests - even in winter!
The Boatshed has wifi, however, the signal strength varies from strong to abysmal. There is no TV but there is a Bluetooth tower so you can stream your music. The Boatshed is a place to unwind, disconnect and tune into the mesmerizing vista of the water and sky and the sounds of the birds, trees, and waves.
The kookaburras are gorgeous but very brazen and they think it's fine to share your meals!
Your well behaved dog will have a great time! So far 6 dogs have been out on the kayak!:

Our stay couldn’t have been more ideal. The cottage is perfectly situated between a lush garden to the rear and the river immediately below the front balcony. The kitchen space is well equipped and the bed is comfy. So peaceful, such wonderful views of river life.

Great location, loved having a wharf for our tinnie. Bowling club and Depot both great for eating out. Property facilities as advised; suited our needs.

It was everything we needed for a weekend getaway. Isolated enough to be peaceful but close enough for my partner and i to utilise our boat to explore the river sights. Clean, Neat and well appointed. We enjoyed the location so much that we would like to return and perhaps stay a bit longer. Communication with the owner was very good.

Lovely little property right on the water. Perfect for a couples get away.
Make sure to bring your own food to cook in the kitchen, as the club on the island is not open every night.

With a name like Boatshed Bliss, I don't need to state the obvious in that it is tucked away, right on the waters edge.
Self contained, no TV but there is WIFi if you want to bring your own device. We made do with the board games and cards after dinner and spent the days walking and sitting by the water reading, so enjoyed the lack of TV, to be honest!

Little quick stay to regenerate and reflect. Perfect place to do so

I felt like I was on an island holiday without the flights!
Absolute mind and body reset
Location location!!
The tide comes up under your balcony at high tide, at low tide you can walk along the shore to the beach for a short cut to the Cafe... where they serve amazing breakfast, lunch and coffee right in the waterfront.
High tide you'll need to walk up the 150 steps to the 'road' through lush gardens, trees and past the owners property.
No cars (I believe there's a couple vehicles, fire, garbage etc) there's also golf buggy taxi if you want it.
Speaking of taxi, do yourself a favour and order a water taxi to take you straight to the jetty in front of the boatshed, 10 easy steps up to the door.
100% recommend for a relaxing break so close to home.
Great communication from the owner, especially when I accidentally locked myself out within a few hours of arrival, whoops!
Thank you, I'll be back!!

My partner, pet pugalier Hank and I stayed at the property for three nights just before Christmas and had the most lovely time! The balcony was amazing to watch the tides and the world go by and the cabin was so lovely and well appointed! Communication was easy and great suggestion on door to door water taxi! Hank enjoyed the kayaking as much as we did!

We had a fabulous time at the beach shack. The property was perfect for a couple, everything we needed and couldn’t be closer to the water. amazing views, modern appliances, comfortable, quiet and great value for money. Couldn’t be happier with our stay on Dangar Island.
Also enjoyed meeting the locals who were all lovely.
Barbara was kind and very attentive to our needs before and during our stay.
Thanks for making sure everything was perfect!

A beautiful location, serene and perfect for an escape from city life! Barb's information was very helpful and the water taxi to the front door made access a breeze. Best to self-cater but the option of eating at the bowling club or cafe is there if required. You could not get more on the water if you tried, such a wonderful sound of water lapping at your door. We bought our own SUP boards, but the kayaks are there to use if you feel so inclined. Thanks Barb and Glenn for a weekend of tranquility.

We loved our stay at Barbara’s cabin on the beautiful Dangar Island. It was amazing to wake up to the sound of lapping waves and the breathtaking view. The cabin has everything you would need (including well stocked kitchen utensils and board games/puzzles) for a relaxing weekend. Barb was very helpful providing instructions for our stay.

Lovely spot to relax but not great in rainy weather. Neighbours a bit noisy doing renovations.

We had the most incredible time at the boatshed. There truly is nothing more relaxing than working in time with nature - when the tide was low, we'd walk the dogs to the beach, when it was high, we'd kayak, and at night we'd drink wine and fish off the jetty under the moonlight!

I loved our stay here. The accommodation is cosy, clean and well equipped. I particularly liked the wharf access and included use of fishing rods and kayaks. The island is a little piece of paradise. Cafe and bowling club keep convenient hours and offer high quality food options and selection.
Walks will test your fitness! It should be noted that you can catch a golf cart ‘taxi’ where needed, and the water taxi is the only sensible option to access the accommodation when you have luggage. Beach access at low tide is excellent. We were happy to stay in of an evening but wouldn’t have liked negotiating down the hill in the dark if we wanted to go out.
Accommodation is truly pet friendly which is lovely. In fact, the whole island is!
It’s easy to fall in love with the lifestyle here as you get back to nature in a most pleasant way! We will definitely be back.

We had a lovely relaxing getaway at this stunning property right on the water. Barbara was very helpful, the place was clean and tidy with everything we needed for a relaxing stay. We were able to get out for a beautiful paddle in the kayak one morning and we would very happily stay here again :)

We stayed 2 nights and had a lovely time. The photos give an accurate image of what to expect, a well-kept rustic studio boatshed with modern highlights like the aircon and stove/cooktop.
It's peaceful, relaxing and a great place for a couple to get away. Boatshed Bliss is on the quieter side of the island. There’s none of the train sound that carries over the water from the public wharf side of Dangar.
A walk to Dangar Island depot was just 12 minutes and another 30 minutes leisurely stroll to come back the ‘long’ way. Taking Barbara’s tip to walk along the beachfront during low tide was a good move… just watch for the slippery rocks she warns about.
There were extra thoughtful touches in the boatshed kitchen like mini milks in the fridge and a fair selection of condiments and herbs/spices in the cupboard.
At the time of our stay, the host was dealing with a personal challenge so it’s hard to know what communication would have been like otherwise.
Our experience wasn't ideal: we contacted the host 3 days before our stay and received general details about what to expect with a comment more details would be sent after we arrived.
Here’s what we would have liked to know ahead of time to help with packing, preparations and make check in easier.
1. The water taxi is $30 one way for two ppl. Well worth it at only $11 more than the public ferry to get dropped right at the boatshed. However, do check the tides.
We arrived during very low tide (too shallow to access the boatshed's pier). Options were to be dropped at the public wharf on the other side of the island or use next door’s pier. We got off next door but balancing across a wooden plank to get under the deck with baggage wasn’t that easy. Anyone with mobility issues (or travelling alone) may not have managed.
2. If you come to the public wharf, you can book an electric buggy to bring you and luggage closer to the accommodation. It’s run by local volunteers and costs $5.50 each. But be aware that you'll be dropped at the top of the hill above the boatshed and will need to carry groceries and bags down 137 steep steps
3. The host asks guests to pop rubbish in the bins up the hill before leaving. Plan your timing as you won't want to tackle those steps with bags on the night before check out.
4. Book early for breakfast/lunch (Dangar Island depot) or dinner (Thurs-Sat at the Bowling Club) on weekends which get busy.
5. Print out a map and screenshot needed info before arrival.

We had a great time at the boatshed and exploring Dangar Island. The views are amazing even on a cloudy day. The birds are fun to feed, but very cheeky! The boatshed is a great little dog friendly getaway so close to Sydney. thanks again Barb!

A beautifully appointed boatshed with everything you need to relax and enjoy being right on the water. You can't beat the views, and with such close proximity to Sydney it makes for a very chilled out experience when getting there is so easy too (and a delight, arriving by water right onto your own jetty). We took the kayak out for a paddle to get breakfast at the café, and took a little walk around the island but mostly enjoyed sipping wine and reading on the balcony. Lots of lovely charming touches, a kitchen with everything you need and a very helpful host made it perfect. We will definitely be back.

We had such a gorgeous stay at the Boatshed. Barb was very helpful and the setting was picturesque and perfect! The accomodation was better than we had imagined and the outlook just beautiful. We had a great mix of kayaking over to Little Wobby and hiking the nearby trails, reading and relaxing and eating at both the Dangar Island Depot and Dangar Island Bowlinf club which both exceeded our expectations for such a small island. And all for around an hours transit from home! We would love to come back again.

Lovely cottage with immediate access to the river and beach very close by. It feels like you are on a secluded island although just a short ferry trip from the mainland. Spectacular views from the property and includes every home comfort. Highly recommend for a romantic weekend away.

We had a lovely stay at the boathouse. We're lucky enough to have a little boat that we hopped in to Friday afternoon with our bags and our dog to head to Dangar Island. Pulling up at the dock, we were pleased to see the spacious studio with a great balcony overlooking the water. The island is big enough to feel like you can explore , and with the cooking facilities at the boathouse, cafe and bowling club you don't need to go anywhere. We felt a world away from the city, yet it was so easy to get there. It's the sort of place you can bring a good book and sit on the deck all day relaxing, or use it as a base to explore the Hawkesbury. We'll be back!

The property was exactly as appeared online. It was immaculate and has all the necessaries. Sitting on the balcony overlooking the water was so peaceful. I had a massage and the dog had a ball swimming from the jetty. A lovely experience.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday at Dangar Island and stayed at The Boatshed over the weekend.
Sitting on the balcony, looking out onto the river, we could hear the water lapping gently against the shore. The sound seems that it will go on forever.... That made us feel more relaxed and tranquil.
Great waterfront apartment, with balcony looking out onto the river. Beautiful place to be!
Excellent setup. Great management. Had everything we needed and more. The owners were very friendly and accommodating to our needs. They guided us where to park our car and how to book a water taxi.
We absolutely loved the location and really enjoyed our stay! Thank you so much.
