Loved the location, and house worked perfectly for our family. Would stay again!

This historic home was a quiet and well-equipped retreat for our family's first visit to Amsterdam. The neighborhood provided easy access to Amsterdam and other areas of the Netherlands by train but was in a quiet residential setting. There were nearby grocery stores and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook meals in and there were lots of restaurants within walking distance. The washer and dryer were a big help. The Zaandam neighborhood itself was fun to explore and had several canals. The hosts were very helpful with details for a smooth check in and check out. We felt right at home- thank you!

We loved this property. I stayed with my parents and my 11 month old son and it was lovely. The property is on a quiet street within a quick walking distance to restaurants and shops in Zaandam. It is a 5 minute walk to the train station and a quick 15 minute train into Amsterdam. It was nice to be in a quiet area after spending time in the busy streets of Amsterdam.
The kitchen and living room was a great space and has a door to close off from the stairs which was perfect with a young kid since the stairs are quite steep. Having laundry and the travel crib there was great with the baby and the kitchen is well stocked. Would recommend this to anyone planning a trip.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property in Zaandam. The location was great...the train into Amsterdam was an easy walk from the house...and it was close enough to the high street (grocery store, shopping, eateries, etc.) to make it convenient but not so close that we could hear it. In fact, the neighborhood is quiet...and quite charming. The house is well furnished, the beds and pillows were comfortable and the hot water never failed us (4 fifty-something adults). Communication with the host was easy and I received responses quickly. I would book this property again in a heartbeat!

Loved this beautiful home in Zaandam! A wonderful 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home that gave us the opportunity to spread out. It is a short train ride from the airport and Amsterdam. Zaandam is a fabulous town with fantastic restaurants. We truly loved our stay here. The only downside is the very steep stairs but we knew that before renting the place and so glad we did not let them deter us. Highly recommend this home!

Location,location,location!
Our 6 person family had a good experience at the property and really enjoyed leaving the busy city of Amsterdam behind and looked forward to returning to the quiet location. Train service was excellent and easy. The beds were comfortable. We were unable to get the oven functioning and I would recommend improved lighting downstairs and a handrail for the bath. Thanks for a great stay and we look forward to getting our damage deposit returned! Tessa and Jack

A get together get away
Lovely property in a very quiet area, but close to the shops and local bars and restaurants in Zaandam. Everything you need is there and communication with Pelle & Viktoria van Hall the owners was relatively quick and easy. Easy walk to train station with a 20 minute ride into central Amsterdam and the trains are regular with usually plenty of spare seats. The train from Schiphol Airport goes straight to Zaandam and if you get the sprinter service it’s a quick and cheap way to get to and from the property. A super place for 3-4 couples to spend a long weekend away and enjoy what Amsterdam has to offer and not ignoring Zaandam itself which is a vibrant place with good night life and a great fresh produce market for when you want to eat in. Highly recommend.

Lovely row house
Our family of seven had a nice stay. The house is not far from the metro, groceries, and restaurants. Stairs are steep with two bedrooms on the third floor. It was hot when we visited in July and the upstairs got up to 33 °. There are small fans in 3 of the 4 bedrooms. The beds are comfortable and bathrooms are nice. The kitchen has everything you need.

Staying in Zaandam
Wonderful stay in Zaandam. House very nice in a Beautiful area. Be prepared for steep stairs compared to North American standards. Great to have grocery store a close walk away. Also short walk to train station and restaurants and stores.

Base for Touring The Netherlands
Excellent, roomy, comfortable property for families or larger groups! Online listing very accurate. Owners always responded in timely manner, check in with Farah was great, she's extremely helpful! We used the home as our base to tour The Netherlands. Visited Amsterdam, Gouda, Utrecht and Den Haag. 10 minute walk to Zaandam train station making all touring extremely easy. Much better pricing than trying to find something comparable in Amsterdam city center and only 2 train stops from Amsterdam Centraal station. Very highly recommend!!!

We arrived to a clean and tidy house with everything we could need. Communication was great. There were great shops nearby and access to the train station was wonderful as well. The house is in a great location and we would stay again.

First Holland Trip and Definitely Will Go Back & Stay Here Again
Ok where do I start. I'm travelling to Holland with family of 8 and we're all first timers. We arrived early before check in time and Pelle is ok for us to drop our luggages then stroll around the house. We were greeted by Farah who had been very helpful and super informative about the house and surrounding.
Back to stroll around, the house is very close to many restaurants at zaandam centrum including the supermarket Albert Heijn. Well, supermarket is everything to us, we can buy vegies and meat then cook it at the house. Their kitchen is amazing, their cooking utensil is more than what we need.
The house is located at nice housing area, there's a playpark in walking distance as well as ducks in the river, so if you bring kids along with you, you guys will have many fun activities together. The interior itself feels like home, clean and comfortable. We stayed for 4 days and feels too soon. I like the room on the leftside at the 3rd floor, it's just sooooo Europe.
We fully commute with public transportation and their access to public transportation such as Zaandam train station and bus is very close. If you ride the train, it only took 15 minutes to Amsterdam or around 20-25 minutes to Schipol Airport.
I have nothing to complain but just a note that the stairs are steep. Should be careful.

Incredibly convenient and easy access!
Thanks to Belle and to his hostess Farrah - the house was perfect for our needs! A quick walk to the train station and we were in Amsterdam at the Centraal Station within 11 minutes. No need for a car once in town. A quaint gateway to all the Dutch character you want without the big city right at your door step. I highly recommend this house!

Great location. The house was very nice and close to all necessities.
We enjoyed our time in Zaandam and the house was very nice. We did have issues with the washing machine not working. As we were there for 10 days this was most inconvenient. Fortunately, the owner organised to have another one installed, but only after persistence by us.

It is a very cosy house in a quiet and beautiful neighbourhood
The house is quirky, but in a good way. It felt like home by the end of the holiday. Nice kitchen and bathrooms. Stairs are narrow and steep. Really can’t recommend to old people. The railing in on the side of the wall and the other side is open, adding to the quirkiness:) and some danger... it’s a 15 min walk to the bus/railway station. If you can bike, nothing like it...

Comfotable property with a great location
We stayed at Pelle's home for three days before taking a river cruise. The home is clean, the beds are comfortable and the home is spacious. Pelle was out of town but we were met by Farah. She was great! Farah was very helpful in getting us oriented to the house and to Zaandam. She was very thorough and was prompt in responding to texts when we had questions during our stay.
The only drawback was the washer did not work. I will also warn the steps are steep and use care when using them. Pantry items may vary; there was a good variety of spices, coffee and tea for our use; we did not cook but there were abundant dishes, glassware, pots, pans, etc for use.
Zandaam is a great little town and it has plenty to offer. It was a great place to relax. If we return to the area, Pelle's home will be a place to stay!

Wonderful home close to Amsterdam
We had a wonderful stay in Zaandam. The home was well stocked with necessities. The kitchen had many of the basics in the cabinets, extra towels and paper goods were available, the beds were comfortable - we couldn't have asked for more! The washing machine was a bit finicky to get to work, but we finally figured it out. Transportation in to Amsterdam was easily accessible. Zaandam was a nice town and there were many places to enjoy and eat at in the square which was walking distance from the home. We enjoyed our stay very much and would not hesitate to recommend the home to others. Thank you Pelle and Viktoria!

A great place to stay
We've just come back from a week in Zaandam and Amsterdam, and Pelle's place was a great place to stay.
Six of us stayed (a family of 5 and a friend) and there was plenty of space in a stylishly decorated house that really fit our image of what it would be like in The Netherlands. The local area and the house are exactly as described by Pelle and the welcome from Pelle's friend Farah was warm and she was very informative for first-time visitors to The Netherlands.
Although we didn't get to meet Pelle himself, we did talk to him several times via the HomeAway messaging system, and he was friendly, efficient and helpful - a pleasure to deal with.
The house was well equipped for cooking so we cooked at home a few times.
The nearest supermarket was only a 5 minute walk and the town centre, with some Italian, Spanish Tapas, Greek restaurants, a delicious ice cream shop and a Chinese take away was a 10 minute walk.
Zaandam and the surrounding area north of Amsterdam has a lot of history, so do your homework before you go, and plan to look around. Zaanse Schans was only 10 minutes drive away and we spent a whole day there. Staying at Pelle's house and just heading south into Amsterdam every day would be a real shame. The train fare for an adult costs around 6.50 Euros return to the Central Amsterdam station which we think was a reasonable price to pay to come back to a nice, spacious, quiet house at the end of a busy day, rather than staying in Central Amsterdam.
If we go back to The Netherlands for another holiday (which is quite likely, given how interesting it is and how friendly Dutch people are!) we will definitely be in touch with Pelle again.

Great Location!
I bought a car using the European Delivery Program and wanted a location where I didn't have to worry about public parking. This is an amazing property that I would highly recommend to anyone wanting to use Zandaam as a base operations to explore Amsterdam and the Netherlands. The train station is about a 10 minute walk from the house and its only a few stops away from Central Station.

Beautiful house, great location
My family of 6 (including 3 teens and a grandma) had the pleasure of staying in Pelle and Viktoria's beautiful home for 3 nights in early June. The house was exactly as pictured. Pelle was out of town when we arrived, but we were met by his friend, Farah, who showed us around and made sure we had all the information we needed for our stay.
We did not have a car, and were able to take the train from the airport to the Zandaam station. The house is a short walk from there. A quick ride (less than 15 minutes) on the Sprinter line got us into the city each day. Zandaam is a nice, quiet place to stay--good markets, shopping and restaurants near the train station. Once back to the house, the neighborhood was quiet and quaint. The house was clean, the kitchen was well-stocked (we didn't do much cooking, but it seemed to have everything one would need.) Exceptionally high marks for the espresso machine--the best coffee we've ever had in a rental!
I would caution readers that the stairs are very steep, especially the ones up to the attic bedroom. This is clearly stated, so I was not surprised, but my 71 year old mother would not even consider going up in the attic. Just something to be aware of. Overall, the house is lovely and I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a spacious, comfortable, quiet place in Amsterdam.

Awesome property near Amsterdam
Location was perfect! Only 20 minute train ride to Schiphol - 5 minute walk to train station and super easy access to Amsterdam Central (12 minutes). Walking distance to 2 supermarkets and the city centre with wonderful pubs, shops and cafes. Quiet and beautiful residential street.
Property was extremely clean and had great amenities. Comfy beds, modern showers. There were 6 of us so two bathrooms with showers was awesome! 6 people lived very comfortably in this space for a week and the rate is very reasonable.
Everything you need to cook but BBQ was not in great shape and needed to be cleaned before use. Does not have a traditional oven - just a stove top cooker but microwave can be used as a convection oven.
TV and internet were advertised but we could only use one or the other at a time - when we did use the TV picture quality was terrible. Not usually something we'd care about but it was advertised and it was World Cup time.
Internet wifi quality was good.
Setting up things with Pelle before our arrival was great - he answered all of our questions promptly
But we were a bit disappointed about the check in on arrival as Pelle was on vacation (which he told us about), but calling to meet his back up person didn't work out well. We called from the airport several times but the contact didn't answer their phone. We left a message saying we had arrived and were on our way to the house but she never showed up to let us in. Without a phone this proved difficult. Luckily a very helpful neighbour and friend of Pelle's let us in and showed us how everything worked.
We contacted Pelle after we checked in and even though he was on vacation he returned our messages very quickly and provided us with follow ups and information. Even at a distance he was a great host.
We would definitely stay here again! Thank you Pelle!

Excellent!!! More than expected!
We absolutely loved our stay in this house! It is a very lovely house and the kitchen is nicely equipped. Parking was great, the neighborhood is beautiful and the host Pelle was wonderful! Everything was so convenient. The train station is right around the corner and everything you would want or need is in the neighborhood. Grocery stores, restaurants etc… We were 6 adults with a 6 year old and a 2 month old so convenience was very important but we needed for nothing. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. We loved it!

"We had a fantastic time in Amsterdam and in this lovely home. The owner welcomed us, showed us around the house and explained how things worked. The house is very big and the second bathroom is very nice because it saves a lot of time getting ready in the mornings. The trainstation is just a few minutes walk away and the trains take you to the city very quick! The owner has done a great job in modernising his old townhouse. Amsterdam has so much to see and we are quite sure that we will visit the city and this house again!"
