About this lodge
Lying in the very heart of the Glen App and Galloway Moors SPA, noted for its wealth of birds and other wildlife, the 7000 acre Lagafater Estate offers the perfect opportunity for you to escape, relax and explore.
The Lodge is an Edwardian shooting lodge that maintains its authentic, traditional atmosphere but has been carefully updated with new modern facilities. Lagafater is the perfect place to unwind, switch off from the outside world and reconnect with the woods, birds, moorland and rivers.
Three double, two twins, one double/twin and four single bedrooms will be ready for your arrival with fresh linen and towels. We have three full bathrooms and two separate showers. Along with a spacious drawing room with a Steinway grand piano, board/card games and jigsaw puzzles you are also provided with a traditional dining room that is serviced by a kitchen/diner with a three oven Esse range, microwave, separate hob, large fridge, two chest freezers and a food processor. The house has central heating and a woodburning stove.
Snooker and table tennis complete the inside activities, while outside, the heather moors, rough woodland and the nearby river (for playing, fishing and swimming) complete the perfect holiday.

Really away from it all location which made travel a bit longer but so worthwhile. Large comfortable warm lodge with loads of stuff for young kids, masses of space inside and out and brilliant old style bedrooms. Lovely, helpful available onsite housekeepers. Great trip, totally worth the drive.

The house is very welcoming, authentic in decor and as expected of a house it's age.
It needs upgrading, pipes leaky and some decor required but we alloved it, lots of space, log fire for evenings it was rainy outside
Aga was brill to cook on, large rooms with plenty of space, some unwelcome guests first nite in kitchen of a couple of large slugs but other than that house and garden and remote location. Was great ❤️

The charm and property exceeds the photos taken and max was incredibly accommodating. We all massively enjoyed our time and will look to come back in the summer!

We rented the lodge house for an extended family get together. The house was amazing. Everything about it was reminiscent of the time I spend growing up in the area. The furnishings and decor were well matched to the age and character of the property. There was a real feel of living in a mansion yet not in a way that made you feel apprehensive about having children in there. The house was full of decorative furniture, ornaments, artifacts and games and we felt instantly at home. The kitchen was very well equipped and it was a pleasure to cook on the range. Yes, the house has it's quirks and imperfections but they all serve to make it more homely and inviting. Max was an excellent host. He made us all feel very welcome and took time to explain some of the history of the property to us and also show us the wine cellar. The grounds of the property were equally amazing with an abundance of walks and activities to embark on.

We could not fault our stay, the house and surroundings are all amazing. The house is great for a big group to spend time together and enjoy some alone time if needed.
Both Max and Hannah are amazing friendly people.
We will definitely book for another stay to explore more of the beautiful surroundings.

excellent spacious accomodation with every facility you could need. a real home from home.
We had a fantastic time at your beautiful lodge, it was just what the family needed.
From my 72 year old parents to my 5 year old granddaughter there was plenty for everyone and in such fantastic surroundings from the lodge with its spacious rooms and many activity’s that are provided to the beautiful surrounding gardens and walks.
The facilities within the lodge were fantastic and it did not take long for my husband and myself to fall in love with the range. The rooms where so homely and welcoming but still very grand and everyone was fascinated going from room to room and looking at all the interesting items used to decorate the lodge, it made for very interesting treasure hunts within the lodge to keep the children occupied when the adults wanted some quiet time, Hide and seek is also a must.
The lack of internet, and phone signal was an added bonus and helped the family reconnect and spend quality time together which is difficult in modern living. All in all an outstanding break for all ages and every taste.
