About this bed and breakfast
Bronte Manor is a grand, rustic, four-bedroom mudbrick dwelling perched on a hill with 360-degree views amidst 35ha of trees and hills, 6km north of Clare.
Romantic, quirky, and secluded, it accommodates a single party of 8 to 10.
Within the main house are:
2 queen bedrooms - one with ensuite (separate walk-in shower plus clawfoot bath)
1 double bedroom in the large attic
1 twin bedroom
Large kitchen
Baronial living room
Second large bathroom with shower over a clawfoot bath
If there are more than 8 guests, we can offer *upon application* Heathcliff Cabin, a quaint, rustic separate 'overflow' cabin. Heathcliff cabin contains a king-sized bed, sofa, and small ensuite bathroom.
Located on 35ha of undulating hills with lovely walks and a dam, Bronte Manor is also a wonderful treat for the family dog.
With a comfortable and spacious layout, the minimum booking price reflects the 4-person minimum occupancy.
Peace and tranquility are the hallmarks of Bronte Manor.
Relax in the claw-footed bath and enjoy stunning views through large floor-to-ceiling windows from both bathrooms, located at opposite sides of the house. The long, baronial-sized living room with open fireplace separates each queen-sized suite while a pretty twin room is ideal for kids and singles. A quaint, spacious attic room with an 1880s iron-posted double bed and views over the hills at the back of the property is made available for larger groups.
From the main house, visitors can step out through French doors onto the slate terrace from every room (except the third twin bedroom and attic) and watch the sun go down behind a vista of stunning valley views with the Clare Valley racecourse in the far distance.
***What Special Treats are Included?***
Enjoy a bottle of complimentary local Clare Valley wine in front of a blazing fire or, in summer, on the slate terrace overlooking the sweeping valley as you cook your food on the BBQ.
Cook up your complimentary local free range eggs, bacon, and tomatoes or make dinner in the large, well-equipped kitchen while you listen to the kookaburras and enjoy the view which is undisturbed by any other dwelling.
Other breakfast provisions include bread, milk and butter.
In winter, complimentary firewood for the first two nights are provided for the indoor open fire.
If you've brought any four-legged friends, you'll know your pampered pet is secure in a fenced-off area (with shelter) near the house as you head off to enjoy the nearby wineries and restaurants. Dogs are also welcome to run around off-leash everywhere except close to the alpaca enclosure. (Don't worry, there are signs.)
Bronte Manor is the ideal place for entertaining, Writers' Retreats, or simply for relaxing.
Depending on the weather - or the direction of the wind or sun - you can use the gas BBQ on the terrace and enjoy the feeling of being lord of all you survey from this beautifully elevated position, or cook up your sausages on the wood-fired BBQ on the eastern side of the house while you enjoy undisturbed views of the hills at the back of the property which are covered in natural bushland.
For those who want to toast marshmallows over an open fire beneath a star-studded sky during winter, there's a large fire pit near Heathcliff Cottage. (Additional wood can be purchased at the local service stations or the Clare Woodyard.)
At the edge of the courtyard, hundred-year-old gums pepper the slope which meets a wide grassy sward, bordered by a ribbon of trees, with the dam in the distance. There is not another building or road to distract the eye.
Birdlife and kangaroos are abundant.
Well-mannered dogs welcome - allowed indoors. Securely fenced dog run near the house with kennel.
Heathcliff Cottage is never separately let.
Rates include a complimentary bottle of wine, cooked/continental breakfast provisions, all linen, and firewood for the first two nights.
Minimum 2 nights stay weekends Fri/Sat or Sat/Sun (negotiable)
Portacot and high chair provided on request.
Key in door from 3pm onwards on day of arrival
Departure time by 11am

Brontë Manor is a delightful place to stay. Loved reading about how it was built. Daily walks to visit the alpacas and watching sunset were highlights

Cottage was cozy, kitchen was very well equipped. We enjoyed the quiet and peaceful surrounds around the cottage great not having others close by.

My family really enjoyed our long weekend at Brontë Manor. It was an ‘experience’ Christmas gift for my family - 2 daughters, sons in law and grandchildren. Lovely walks on the property, visits to the alpacas, roasting marshmallows on the fires, inside and out, preparing meals together, and the chance to sit around and read and play some games together. The house is definitely quirky, and the warmth from the fires was needed, despite the reverse cycle air conditioner, but the beds are warm and comfortable, the kitchen is very well provisioned, the breakfast offering was very generous and it is lovely to be surrounded by trees and birds in quiet privacy. The attic room, offers very little soundproofing, so earplugs might be useful. It was also lovely to have our dog come along- she had a wonderful time accompanying us on our walks and hanging out with all her pack. Definitely recommend Brontë Manor for a rejuvenating break.

Don’t worry about the road. The destination is worth it. Quiet, peaceful , well equiped. Patrick and Tamika responded promptly with any issues that arose. The walk to see the alpacas was a daily ritual. Close enough to Clare township and wineries.

Overall I enjoyed my stay. It’s a great location to take dogs, lots of birds and bushland, and the manor is full of character. It was well supplied with breakfast ingredients. There is still room for improvement- a good clean, and some general maintenance. I had the loft bedroom and hit my head on the ceiling beams a couple of times because the bed is so high while the ceiling is so low. I would have liked to have some bottled water provided or a warning to bring our own (had to drive back to town on arrival). But overall it was still a great experience.

The location just out of Clare and on a beautiful tree covered property was just perfect for a weekend escape. We lived walking around the property and meeting the Alpacas who were very happy to be given snacks of lettuce. Sitting out on the back terrace in the morning with coffee enjoying the birds was a lovely way to start the day.

Excellent communication with the owner/overseers . Very helpful advice where to go/eat in the immediate area.

Housing nine adults, the property suited our needs very well. The hosts were amazing in an emergency (misplaced dog and temporary loss of power) and quickly assisted to put things right. The manor itself is quirky and comfortable, having everything we needed for a wonderful stay. Thanks Tanika and Beverley!!

Myself and the family all loved our stay at Bronte manor. We live in the suburbs so getting out into nature is always exciting for the kids and relaxing for us adults. The property is exactly how it looks in the photos and has a wonderful ambience. We had everything we needed and all the little things had been thought of. Being so secluded but also a short drive to the village really was perfect.

Pictures and description are far better than the reality of this house.

Great location to getaway with our kids and their partners and granddaughter, very unique, private and loved the wildlife. Lovely breakfast provided and enjoyed a cosy fire each night while playing games. Highly recommend.

We had a fabulous time at Bronte Manner, the hosts were very accommodating!! It was a lovely spot for our family to spend some quality time together. great atmosphere.

Bronte Manor was very quirky. The surrounds and many trees were picturesque. There was probably a little bit too much "stuff" in the house and the furniture was very heavy and dated but otherwise it was nice.

This property is set in lovely natural surroundings but is in need of a lot of maintenance inside and out. The bathrooms in particular need updating badly.

Really enjoyed the 'away from it all' location, walks through the bush, roos on the door step, and easy drive to town. The fire was great and an excellent kitchen with breakfast supplies was appreciated.
The hot water ran out on our last morning so more information about the gas bottles would have helped, also more than one towel per person for 3 nights would also have been appreciated.

Just got back from our stay at the Bronte Manor. We had a party of 6 plus our Cocker Spaniel. We had a fantastic time exploring the grounds and bushland, looking for kangaroos and other wildlife which surrounds the property. Was great to go and say “Hi” to the local Alpacas too. The house had everything we needed and is set in perfect surroundings. The breakfast provisions were just right for our stay. Tanika is their perfect host, keeping us up to date with everything we needed to know about wildlife and weather.
Thank you can’t wait to return!!!!

We enjoyed every bit of our short stay. Every detail was perfect from the lovely clean linen to the ample breakfast goodies provided for the 5 adults. Located just a short drive away from Clare yet it could be a 100 miles away from anywhere. Will certainly come back again!

I had a great weekend with friends, we loved Bronte Manor and the surrounding area. Good breakfast provisions and owner very pleasant and accomodating.

Fantastic large property with plenty of room for our three families. Beautiful bush setting with easy access to Clare Valley wineries and kids enjoyed visiting the onsite Alpacas. Bronte Manor was very unique, being built by the owners from mud brick, and is full of character with its fireplace, red velvet and dark wood furniture, four-poster beds and clawfoot baths. Love the views from the kitchen and bathroom. The house takes quite a while to warm up and we had a chilly first night with problems with the A/C and a long time for the fireplace to warm the large area - arrive early to get the fire started or see if the owners can light in advance for you if you're there during the colder seasons! Our following nights were cosy and warm. Thanks to Tanika who looked after us very well before and during our stay :)

We stayed Bronte Manor (and the Heathcliff cottage next door) with three families. It was rustic but very clean. As it was hand-built, things aren't perfect - like the floor isn't perfectly flat, the door ways aren't very wide and the outside slate is uneven - but for most people this won't be a problem, it's all part of the charm! Bronte Manor has a lovely, modern kitchen that was well equipped and the breakfast provisions were very generous! The fridge was a bit small for all of us but we had brought along an esky so our drinks went into that.It was lovely to sit outside and watch the sunset between the trees. Yes, there are bugs and even bats (no fly screens on Bronte Manor) but that's just part of being with nature! One of the showers wasn't great (it sprayed everywhere except in the centre) and we did have the hot water run out for some showers - but this happens any where!Tanika was very helpful & friendly too.
