About this cottage rental
Self-contained affordable cottage in rural settings Spacious for 2, still enough space for 4 adults, extra kids ok. Freeview TV + Free Wi-Fi. Pine forest and native bush for kids to play with plenty of space to explore.
Incredibly private, surrounded by pine forest. 100% rural, yet only 15 minutes drive from Wellington CBD.
Quite warm now with heat pump, log burner and oil heater so you'll be cosy even on coldest days.
Please note this is rural and somehow quirky bach, not a hotel. If you prefer humming city and 4+ star accommodation you might enjoy more staying in one of Wellington hotels. This is reasonably priced bach for people who like outdoors and rural. No public transport nearby (closest bus stop 4km walk over hills) and the nearest shop is about 15km return trip. The access road from the highway (last 5-8minutes) is windy uphill but quite scenic after you pass the quarry.
Air bed, porta cot, spare mattresses and more extras available on request (usually free), just ask.

Basic and quirky with everything you need. Great host communication and explanation of property. Perfect place to unwind after exploring the city, kids loved playing in the bush and we loved the mod cons. The wind in the trees was magical. Will definitely stay again. 🙂

I like the bach.Warm and cozy.My 5 yrs old wanted to stay back. We are not just prepared for the road as some of phobia for the curves and height.Apart from that,It was nice to be there.

We really enjoyed it. Was the kids first time in Wellington so was really nice to have a beautiful peaceful place to retreat to after a hectic day doing touristy things in the city.

Was a lovely little property. Great house, was clean and tidy and exactly how it looked online. A highlight was the little chicken that would come to our door in the morning!

We wanted a place secluded and away from everyone and we had that plus more. Teens really enjoyed the bush area. Was a quiet beautiful hutt like spot. Perfect for us! Highly recommended.

The listing is accurate. The location is secluded which is great for a quiet night. The weather at check in was cold and damp. No heat was left on, even at the lowest setting. Fridge was dirty and the place smelled damp. The price is right for what you get. The water for this unit is supplied by rain water and holding tank(s). Fine for showers and laundry but I wouldn't drink it. Not sure I would stay again but for the money, if you are in a budget, it is a good spot

Peaceful excellent spot for children

Ok, so navigating the freeway to get there was a bit of a challenge to begin with - but once we got the hang of it it was fine. This was a gem of place for our family, with a side array of kitchen utensils, a great oven, a nice warm fire and wood to forage - we were very happy and comfortable. It was a lovely base to explore Wellington from, what a lovely view coming down the hill! We'll be back.

A great rustic holiday home for a family of five, as described. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the chickens and their adventures in the gully, making it the perfect bush getaway. A short scenic drive to Wellington. Michal's assistance and excellent communication made our stay even more enjoyable.
Thank you

Awesome little place. Quirky but comfortable. Peaceful for the most part. We didn't realise that people park outside the bach to do the pine forest walk there and play with their kids on the lawn outside the bach. So that was a little shock when we were enjoying breakfast in bed together on our anniversary with the curtains open to enjoy the scenery 😳 lol. The owners said people will be in the forest on the friday morning, but we weren't aware that meant outside the bach haha.
I was SO looking forward to the fire as it was freezing and we dont have one at home, but sadly there was no timber or means to light the fire. We brought some timber then realised there were birds nesting in there so never lit it in the end. Heatpump worked to keep us warm though. It is old but once it winds up it heats the place up after an hour or so hehe.
Absolutely loved our time here and it had what we needed...a comfy bed...a COFFEE MACHINE...a nice big table to play games at, and really helpful and accommodating owners. The shower wasn't the best, but it was amazing for what you pay for this little place.
Overall...we will be back. We love rustic and quirky, and it was in a beautiful spot! Thanks Michal. We can't wait to return and relax.

Such a lovely location for this rustic, yet simplistic bach. Well equipped, warm and well maintained little bach perfect for a family break. Loved every minute of our stay and would stay there again.

Rustic property
Rustic accommodation which worked OK. Was disappointing to turn up and the hot water had not been turned on and the property was damp and musty. The de-humidifier did work to remove the musty smell in time

Horikiwi
Property suited its purpose as I wanted a house with an oven so I could cook for my family. It's quite a drive from the city and next time I would choose somewhere closer. Great having a heat pump as it was very cold. The shower pressure could've been better and took awhile to heat up. The nozzle kept falling down which was a nuisance.

Ideal for small families and those seeking some tranquillity in the city. Very reasonably priced and perfectly comfortable. A pity we couldn't stay longer and explore further. No complaints. Thank you!

Just as expected
Pretty much exactly what we expected. Would have been nice to have known how to get in earlier. Only downside to this property is how loud the door is to the bedroom

Lovely location.
Loved the forest setting & tranquil location. Unfortunately because of location, property does feel damp. Great to be so close to Wellington CBD. Property could have done with more cleaning in some areas.

We were very pleased - this rustic cottage was warm, and had everything we needed including a fully equipped kitchen and even a dish washer.

Country escape in the City
This was a great place to stay for our recent trip to Wellington. Was great being away from the traffic and noise and in the bush but yet so close to all we needed. The only suggestion we would have is replacing some lightbulbs with brighter/LED bulbs. Other than that was a perfect stay and would definitely stay again on future trips visiting friends. Thanks so much.

Nice little getaway
We had a great stay at this Bach. My children had a great time playing in the pine forrest and walking around the neighborhood looking at farm animals. The Bach is warm with a heat pump. We felt warm and comfortable. If there is anything to improve it would have been great the lights are brighter. We felt that it was a bit dim. Most of the pots have no lids.

Peaceful relaxing escape from the bustle of the main city
Beds were made up and entry was straight forward. Very detailed instructions made it easy to get there. Petone only a few minutes away with Pak & Save where we could get toilet paper (advise you to bring with you). Handy things like iron and washing machine which we used.

An honest kiwi no frills bach located in a pine forest.
This place was warm & we all felt really comfortable here.It was the perfect oasis to escape to after being in the city even though it's only a 15 minute drive from central Wellington. Lots of privacy. The three off us agreed we would stay here again. Thanks Michal.
