Stayed here for an anniversary trip to Mystic and this property was everything we dreamed of and more! Cannot overemphasize how much we loved this house.
Far enough away from the busy, touristy areas, but still close enough to Mystic and Stonington to easily make it into town. (Also only a short drive from Westerly, RI with great beach options.)
We received an amazing tour from the owners upon our arrival, who were wonderfully kind, welcoming, and communicative, and even got to visit the horses and donkeys on property :)
We loved exploring the house and taking in all the details, from the library of classics to the homages to previous homeowners. If you’re looking for a quiet, peaceful, and cozy escape that makes you feel like you’re in a movie, I’m sure you’ll love this house as much as we did.
(10/10 would recommend sitting outside at night and watching the fireflies!)

We had a wonderful stay. Sandra and Jim were great hosts and were very understanding of our later than expected arrival.
Folks, if you are looking for a quiet family space to kick back and relax in the Stonington area, this is where you want to be.

It was what you’d expect from a 300 year old house. The property was cool and the owners were friendly. If you are looking for luxury accommodations this is not the place for you but if you want a unique stay it’s nice. There is a sign hanging inside that says they are not required to be up to health code standards. There was mouse poop on the table in the kitchen and on top of one of the bed covers. We weren’t using the table and just cleaned up what we found on the bed without complaining because what do you expect in such an old home. The basement has a dirt floor and it was rainy the weekend we stayed. The first night when we returned from dinner there was a strong musty smell and I woke up with a bad headache and allergy symptoms. The second night was fine as the smell resolved. It smells like an antique store throughout the house as it is itself old and is full of antiques. Definitely not the cleanest rental property I’ve stayed in but it was fine. Nothing to complain about as we signed up to stay in an old home. All this to say is if you have allergies, are a neat freak, or want luxury and are going to complain if you don’t get it stay somewhere else. If you like history and old stuff this is the place for you.

Perfect location, just far enough away from everything but 10-15 minutes to Mystic and Stonington Point. The property owners are lovely people. The house itself is worthy of a chapter in a book. Very nice former B&B full of character and history. We will stay here again.

Had a great time enjoying this historical home and property for our family Thanksgiving. Sandra and Jim are very welcoming and will share some of the stories of the old home if you are curious. Check in/check out was seamless and the owners live in the other home on the property if you need anything. They even provided recommendations for local restaurants for Thanksgiving dinner. The home had plenty of space for our group. My teens enjoyed meeting the resident horses as well!

We loved staying at Sandra's and Jim's Inn. This place was breathtaking and it felt like we were transported back in time. Every detail about the house was so beautiful, the books, the art the personalized picnic baskets, the cozy and very comfortable beds and sheets only added to the joy of our stay. We loved meeting and petting the horses. We especially enjoyed the AMAZING kitchen were we cooked and ate dinner every night. But, the best part about our experience was Jim's and Sandra's hospitality. they are such remarkable human beings and welcomed us with warmth and humility. And if you get lucky enough you might get to hear one of Jim's fantastic life stories. We feel such gratitude towards Sandra and Jim and this very special Inn and will be back to visit again. Thank you!!

Beautiful 300 plus year-old property in small town. Good restaurants nearby, along with Mystic and casinos. Owners are phenomenal and easy to contact. Would definitely stay there again.

The house was built in 17/1800’s so there is a lot of creaking and walls are paper thin. The water pressure is excellent. It was easy to locate and close to vineyards, mystics and other places. The gas fireplaces in room gives off great heat. Sandra answer right away if you have any questions… we really enjoyed our stay.

This is an amazing house if you like the character of houses from the 1700s. The kitchen is big and friendly with a commercial stove and lots of pots and pans. Great for cooks.
Very nice hosts.

The house and property were beautiful and quiet. It is located in a rural area with horses in a back pasture.
Keep in mind the house was built in 1710. The floors aren't completely level and all the bathrooms are upstairs, as Sandra stated in her home description. With that being said, the stories that the house could tell! We truly appreciate historical homes and loved our time spent there.
The location was perfect for exploring all that Mystic, Stonington and Noank has to offer. The train station in Mystic gives great access for a day trip to Boston. The ferry to Block Island, RI, is also very close.

Historically Beautiful!
Mind blowing experience staying in a house built 12 years before George Washington was born.
Sandra&Jim are great people and were fantastic hosts. I look forward to renting this house again and will be recommending it to friends and family.

A magical place
This was our third stay. Our first was over the 2020 Christmas Holidays, when it provided a warm, comforting, private pandemic refuge. The kitchen is even prettier than it looks in the photos, fully equipped, with a Viking stove from back when this was a Bed & Breakfast. The eat-in table on the other side of the counter is a great place to hang out. We went to the weekly Stonington Farmers' Market for local ingredients, and to Sea Well Seafood, right on the water, for the freshest fish we've ever eaten. We bought wood for the fireplaces in kitchen & living room, and lit winter fires.
The house is full of light from all the windows, bright even when it's cloudy. It's in an area full of nature preserves and trails.
The road it's on is very quiet.
The horses and ponies out back are great; you can see them from the upstairs bedroom, and while you're washing the dishes. We both have animal and dust allergies, but had no trouble being in the old house in winter; in spring, everything was blooming, so we took allergy pills.
The beds are comfortable, and the slipper tubs are fabulous! There are gas fires in 2 of the upstairs bedrooms and in the big dining room. They are lovely, and heat the rooms quickly. You really do feel like you've stepped back in time. The big plank floors dip in places, the doors have little iron latches. We love staying in historic houses, and this one is truly unspoiled.
Owner Sandra is fabulous at keeping in touch and responding to things that come up. She & Jim live in a smaller old house on the property, across the driveway, but you don't feel at all in each other's way. Plenty of privacy.
The charming towns of Mystic and Westerly, RI are each less than 15 minutes away. They both have plenty to do and great places to eat.

It was a fun experience staying in an antique property.

300 years old for sure
The property was just as listed. 300 years old. And all the floors knew it. For my parents who are in their 80's, and quite fit, they had troubles getting around and were not very sure footed as the floors where very uneven. I twisted my ankle going from the rug to the floor in the dining room as the unevenness was unapparent due to the rug ending where the floor dropped down a bit. There is no bathroom on the main floor, so stairs had to be taken to use the facilities. Cleanliness was not a high priority, but it wasn't terrible either. (although my mother was beside herself with the dust and such.... again, it is a 300 year old home, so it was kind of expected. But my mom was not impressed). I have TERRIBLE allergies to must, dust, mildew and smoke. When we arrived in the pouring rain, windows were opened in every room to air the home out. It didn't help. I went home with terrible asthma after spending 4 days there. (And all we did was sleep there for the most part, as we were there for a wedding, and most of the activities we went to were not at the home.) The fireplace, although beautiful, was very thick with black soot, and smokey smells. Again, due to the house being so very old, and not much maintenance having been done to it.
There is a horse pen connected to the backside of the home, so the flies in the windows at the back of the house were immense. Dad had trouble finding the flyswatter, but alas, there is one in the home, in the kitchen, with the fire extinguisher. The pots and pans were mostly a disgrace, thus, we did not eat a single cooked meal at the house. Bring your own pans if you want to feel sanitary. Just a FYI.
All the beds were very clean and comfortable. The showers were very difficult, as there was nowhere to hang the shower head in 2 of the bathrooms, they were hand held, and the water pressure was VERY powerful. The main shower water at the top of the stairs was like a hose coming out.
Having said all that, the hosts were very friendly. Helped in anyway they could. They literally live a driveway away, sharing the driveway with the guests. They also have access to the yard, as they share it with you, and have to be in the yard in order to feed the horses connected to the home.
If you are looking for a colonial experience, this is the house for you.

Wonderful Colonial House!
We had an excellent stay at the Edward Denison house! This is a fantastic authentic colonial experience. There are great spaces around every corner and very comfortable and spacious bedrooms. Sandra and Jim are great hosts and very repsonsive! We very much enjoyed everything about our stay and loved meeting the horses on the grounds as well!

Historical home with horses and homeowners
The historical house was full of character. The homeowners live in a house adjacent to the historical house. They have horses in the back that they were taking care of during our stay.
They were very polite and helpful during our trip.
