About this house rental
“All the comforts you need. Home away from home. “ - Lee-Ann, Jul 2020
This listing is for a 2-guest configuration of the house. You’ll have access to the rooms and amenities shown in the photos and listed below. There will be locked access to the other bedrooms and amenities of the house.
The living and dining areas are wide open and spacious in the Ti Kouka House. Two sofas face one another and create a comfy spot for lounging. There’s also a wood-burning fireplace that’s oh-so-cozy in the colder months.
Sliding glass doors open wide to the sun-drenched deck. Outside on the deck is a large dining table. When it’s warm, this is a great place to sip your morning coffee and read the paper. Or host an alfresco dinner underneath the stars. There’s a soothing hot tub out here too — great for soaking sore muscles after a long day on the trails.
In the kitchen, bold red accents add style to the efficient space. Stainless steel appliances include a range, vent hood, dishwasher, and refrigerator. There’s also a Nespresso coffee machine, microwave, and toaster. Nearby, the laundry room is equipped with a washer, and a heated drying cupboard.
The master suite features a king-size bed and a flat screen Smart TV. The ensuite master bathroom has a step-in shower and white marble vanity.
Ti Kouka House is the perfect home base for your next trip to Ohakune. Whether you’re coming for the skiing or the sunshine— or maybe a little bit of both— you’ll be in the perfect spot to soak it all in. Tongariro National Park and two popular ski resorts are a short drive from the home. Some of our personal favorite activities are:
The Mangawhero River walk - a beautiful track along a clear mountain stream
Tongariro Crossing - a world famous bucket list activity (requires decent level of fitness)
Old Coach Road - this stunning old rail link is a popular bike path that can also be walked.
Whanganui River adventures.
During the winter season for a night out, you can walk to The Junction— a local hub featuring many delicious restaurants and cafes. We especially recommend:
The Powderkeg Restaurant & Bar - a 10min walk from our Ti Kouka House, the Powderkeg is a central gathering place great for drinks and food from breakfast to sunset dinners.
'Out of Order' (formally "The Blindfinch, hamburgeria" is now tapas style dining, specialising in a fabulous selection of Gins. Located in the main part of town, opposite the fire station on Goldfinch Street.
'Osteria'-a nice selection of Italian style dining. Located in the main part of town, 20-30 mins walk.
“The location is great, we walked to dinner at a great restaurant the first night, and the next day went hiking from the trailheads just a short drive away. Book with confidence, this house and these hosts are supreme. “ - Marina, Jan 2018

We really enjoyed our stay in Ohakune. The house was lovely, with a massive kitchen and comfortable bed. The bathroom was spacious with good hot water and pressure in the shower. The spa pool was a lovely bonus, but a bit hot for us (nothing wrong with it, just personal preference!).

Although the weather wasn’t great. The place was wonderful, with the spa and fire.
Got a little confused about the Tv set up, but nothing better than an escape with no Tv in the lounge- enforced board games :)
Hope to return again sometime

I was in Ohakune for a few nights, primarily for the Tongariro Crossing; the bach was convenient, clean, and a great place to spend time in the evening. In addition, the spa was very restorative!
I will be returning!

Great stay for a winter weekend break
Eileen was a fantastic host and the house was perfect. We found it warm and cost with a log fire but also a heat pump too. Everything was spotless and the kids really enjoyed the spa. We will definitely be staying again!

Beautiful well designed house
Our group of skiers and borders had a lovely stay at the cosy and clean bach. Eileen was welcoming but unobtrusive, meeting us at check in.
The beds were comfy, the house was clean and warm and parking wasn't a problem. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking equiptment and a dream to work in.
There was a problem with our spa water the first night jut Eileen fixed this for us during the day while we were on the snow and had it ready for our second night. The drying room is an awesome idea, though we did struggle to get things totally dry overnight.
I'm told by many I am very picky and yet we had an amazing weekend and we would be happy to stay again!

Thank you – we will be back!
Great property in a nice central part of town – an easy 5 minute walk to the Powderkeg, and a 2 minute drive from New World and the other shops in that part of Ohakune.
The spa was fantastic (though it could've been slightly hotter) and the size of the house meant there was plenty of room for the four of us.
It's great that there was a desk and fast internet too, so if you need to do any work on a laptop etc. then this place is perfect.

Family gatherings are hard to organize at the best of times.
Family gatherings are hard to organize at the best of times. Ti Kouka offered everything a great family holiday could offer. Having adult children with partners, it was ideal. Everyone had their own sleeping space. Spacious living areas and highly appointed kitchen and bathroom facilities. We look forward to returning for a repeat of board game challenges and enjoy the family banter and create more memories..

The house is great - really clean, lots of space, and well appointed with great shower pressure and comfy beds and bedding. Power supply charges in Ohakune means no dryer and heated towel rails and heaters on timers which is something to get used to - but the fire and heat pump are both excellent. This was our second stay and won’t be our last.

The property was so warm. Fantastic fire place, huge kitchen and comfortable lounge. It was a great place to stay with the two children as there were two living areas. Would definitely book again if we were to head back down to Ohakune.

We have stayed in many holiday houses in Ohakune and this would be the best. The location is prefect for catching shuttles to the mountain and walking to the junction or to town. The house is spacious and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and we appreciated the log fire was lit for us on arrival. Also nice to have an outdoor area and a picnic table for when the sun shines. Owners are on site and were welcoming and helpful but respectful of privacy. We will certainly be back!
