Cala 1789

Visit was not as expected( advertised)
The majority of the breakfast was ok, beach area was enjoyable, spa swimming pool was nice, the bar staff were helpful and friendly. The young lady at the tour desk was very hardworking. Train up from beach was pleasant. General grounds made it a nice location. Enjoyable spa treatments at Torre del Barone.
Misleading advertisement that all the facilities were at this hotel but were in fact at different locations. Most of the reception staff were unfriendly and not sensitive to our needs as this was a French speaking hotel ( this was not stated in the advert on the internet)and we were non French speakers. E.g the towel and beverage card system was not explained to us at check in. The buffet was not to our taste and only participated once, eating out or eating at the Torre del Barrone. The cooked breakfast was cold and after eating the scrambled eggs I had a upset stomach for the rest of the day. Thermal swimming pool was underused as no recliners there for comfort. Quite a saga booking onto excursions, seemed like an unnecessarily complicated process, and felt like entry to some attractions should have been included in the price. Difficulty of access to town as ‘red bus’ wasn’t running for many days of our stay and so a lot of money spent on taxis

Room View, private beach and good staff balanced some flaws
Location is wonderful. From our room (sea front room) the view was really amazing. Friendly and kind Staff. Good entertaining offered in Italian and French. We appreciated the room (and bed) size too.
There is a kiosk on the seaside for some paninis, but waiting times are too long. Some improvements are required to increase capacity and ordering experience. Most facilities are outdated and require some work, especially elevators which shake and are also really slow. The bathroom should be renovated and was not really well clean. It would also be nice to have better access to the beach (there is a shuttle service but for other hotels, so it doesn't stop in this hotel), especially when you want to go back to the hotel and you don't fancy all those stairs.

Good
The place is amazing. The location is beautiful, the seaside is wonderful: everything related to Mother Nature was fantastic. The pool is also quite nice. The rating is not poor just because of this.
The property is old, in a bad shape and very badly maintained. The bar on the terrace is super expensive, there is a very low availability of drinks and food, aperitivo is very bad. The staff is unprofessional and even a gin tonic is served in a such a bad way. There is a kiosk on the seaside, as well as a bar. The bar at the beach is also very poor, a cold coffee (a normal coffee with ice) is charged double just because of the ice. Just 200m away there is a bar from another property which offers a huge variety of drinks and food. Ordering food at the kiosk offers also a super poor experience. Breakfast is a disaster: very dirty tables with no tableware replacement when people swing. The food is really the worst quality. The rooms are super old and not really well clean. There were ants in our room. The elevators are really scary and move when going up and down. Overall, restaurants, bars, and the facility need huge improvements.

Bad
The beach
Hotel is disorganized, except breakfast not bad, AC not good, lift noisy, pool not good, any way for €176 it’s not good.

Good stay in a nice location
We liked the location, the view from the room (sea front room), the swimming pool, the cleanliness in general and the food at the restaurant. All the people of the staff (reception staff, cleaning operators, waiters etc) were very friendly and willing to accommodate all our requests. Also there was an excellent entertaining program, in both Italian and French language, mostly in the swimming pool.
The facilities are a bit outdated, for example the elevators are shaking quite a bit, also the bathroom in the room was a bit old but still ok. Cala Regina does not have a gym and you need to go to the neighbouring Alicudi resort (10 min walk distance). Anyway there are plenty of sport activities organised by the hotel equipe. I think the owners of the property should really consider some general renovation of all the facilities (elevators, bathrooms, hallways, restaurants, gym etc) to give a real 4 star experience to the guests.

Great experience.
Away from it all and only accessible with private cars unless you are part of an all-inclusive holiday. The food was ok and the service was excellent. We enjoyed the beach which is just a few meters away.
Too far from the centre of Sciacca.
