About this house rental
Historic and completely renovated two story farmhouse on a large lot. Beautifully appointed with custom wood features including a farmhouse table, island, reclaimed wood walls and shelving. Distinct modern and eclectic decor. Centrally located near the Falls, Niagara Parkway, Niagara on the Lake, casinos, wineries, and the largest outdoor outlet mall in Canada. A great gathering spot in any season with a full kitchen and outdoor space ready to entertain family and friends.
This property was originally known as the “Halfway House”, a tavern built in 1839. It was the only stop of the Erie and Ontario Railway, the first in Upper Canada. It was a horse drawn railroad that carried people and goods from Queenston (below the Falls) to Chippawa (above the Falls), an 11 mile journey. Halfway House was built as a tavern for travelers along the Portage Road. In 1895 the house was rebuilt, either on or using the stone foundation of the original tavern. A lovely stone barn from the original railway still exists on the property.
AN IMPORTANT NOTE: this property being located on an historic crossroads has become a major entry point into Niagara. As a result, street traffic can often be very busy during the day but quiets down significantly at night.

The house, the garden and the hosts were awesome and we had a great time

This old house has a lot of history, very nice backyard too. It’s well situated between the falls and the vineyards. As mentioned by other people, it is situated on a busy road. We live in the country and are used to sleeping in a quiet environment so we brought some earplugs and we slept fine. My kids and my parents slept without earplugs without problem. Comfortable mattresses. Brand new or well cleaned BBQ. And we had a bottle of wine waiting for us on the dining table. Very good experience.

Even though we didn’t get to spend much time on the property, we fully intend on returning to this gem!

The house and back yard were enjoyable. The traffic noise due to rerouted construction was a little loud during the day. This would be a temporary issue. The location was perfect for visiting the Niagara area. Also, the owner had an excellent NY bottle of wine for us at arrival. Everything you would need for a long stay was supplied.

We had a long weekend hanging out with friends at this property. It was great to have a full kitchen and large table to have breakfast and dinner at. We also used the large outdoors table and gas grill, followed by sitting around a fire. The grounds are park like. The location was perfect for us, about 15 minutes from Niagara On the Lake and from the falls. Many wineries nearby also. We would not hesitate to stay here again!

For some reason our small dog, (Bichonpoo) would not walk on the wooden floors of the house, she would only stand on the rugs, and would not move off of them, if you tried to entice her to come on her leish she just froze on the spot. to the point where she would pull back from you with all her might.
Unfortunately this was upsetting to us and cast a shadow on our overall experience.

Lovely stay, home was clean and modern. Hosts were friendly and welcoming.

This property is very "central" to many different activities. The home is very comfortable to stay in. We had 5 ladies spend 2 nights and everyone was pleased with their stay. I saw a few reviews complain about traffic, personally i didnt think it was that worrisome. Neighbourhood is very quiet. Would definetly stay here again, especially during nicer weather to take advantage of the back yard!
A suggestion/comment - dont shut the "master bedroom" door all tbe way, as we did get locked in the room at 3am, thankfully i was able to think on my feet and used a credit card to open. The rest of the time we just shut the door lightly and put something to keep it from opening.

We had a girls weekend, seeing the falls and doing a wine tour. This house was the perfect location for both!!! Also, the photos do not do it justice, it’s absolutely beautiful. We hope to come visit and stay here again!

We had a fun time staying in this beautiful quaint old farmhouse. The yard was a cozy place to hang out with family members around a campfire.
The owners were very friendly and met us in person.
Thanks so much

Just a quick trip to the Niagara falls region with our adult kids. Beautiful and thoughtful renovation - both inside and out. Numerous areas to enjoy. Tastefully decorated and a great location for easy access to the falls or Niagara on the Lake. The hosts provided nice recommendations as well.

We loved every squeaky step on the gorgeous old hardwood floors! Loved the little touches (a curio cabinet filled with artifacts found onsite) and the thoughtful (and fun!) decor. Super close to Niagara on the Lake - a must visit for a casual stroll in a beautiful, quaint town.

This was hands down the best VRBO I have booked and I have booked several. Everything is exactly as described by the hosts. Plus they provided many extras that aren't often included - toilet paper, soap, shampoo/conditioner, etc. The home is beautifully renovated and my family of four found it very relaxing and comfortable. The rich history of the home and beautiful landscaping made our stay all the better. Thank you!

The house is located in relatively close distance to the sites and events of Niagara Falls without being in the busy and noisy downtown are. The nostalgia of of the century old (modernised) building and its history appealed to my family. We can recommend this property to anyone needing accommodations for 6 people at what I consider to be a reasonable cost.

The house is absolutely gorgeous. The backyard garden was a favorite for morning coffee and an afternoon rest. The upstairs did get a little warmer at night but they left fans in all the closets, and that helped. Thanks for the use of your beautiful rental.

We absolutely enjoyed staying in this beautifully restored estate! The amount of love and care that went into restoring this place was evident the moment we pulled up. Darren gave us a tour and the backstory of the property when we arrived. With all the new development going up in the area this place could have easily been lost to history if it was not for them. The location was perfect! Quick trips to area restaurants and easy access to Niagara Falls Park attractions. The only downside was the length of our stay. Wish we could have spent more time enjoying the curated garden!

We had a great stay. The owners manage the property themselves and take a lot of pride in it. They were VERY responsive to any questions we had. It was perfect for our family, and very convenient to both the falls and Niagara on the Lake. It's located on the corner of two sort of busy roads, but when in the beautiful back yard garden, you don't even notice, and it's one of the things that makes it convenient. Thanks to the owners for all of the help with our questions about the area.

Loved out stay as this super charming cozy amazing property. Everything we needed for our stay. Beautiful interiors and exteriors. The history of the property was the topic of every conversation we had. Darren greeted us and took us on the tour. He also shared his story of the property. We’ll be back!

Booked for stay with four friends - a cycling trip - excellent location (near biking trails and on biking route), great wineries nearby (Ravine), very clean and organized, all amenities where great. The backyard is really nice - enjoyed dining outdoors and a campfire each night. Stay could not have been better.

We loved this stay and the owners as well. They gave us excellent recommendations from restaurants to wineries to bicycle paths. This house is just far enough away from the action at Clifton but close enough to the Falls to be convenient. Everything was better than expected. Thanks for a great stay!

Lovely & convenient
This property is exactly as listed. The owners were very communicative and helpful in finding us a place for our dog to go to daycare a couple of days (our choice- the property is pet friendly). We appreciated the towels by the door to wipe "muddy paws" as a little note indicated. We also appreciated the bottle of wine they left for us. So hospitable! The house had everything we needed for our family of 4 to rest comfortably after driving 9 hours., It was convenient to the falls area and Niagra on the Lake. As another visitor mentioned, the mornings can be a little loud due to the busy intersection, but the owners are up front about this and it was quiet at night. The beds and linens were very comfortable and we all slept well. The backyard is a beautiful oasis- the weather was pretty lousy while we were there, but we did get to have a fire one night. Again, great hospitality because they had fire starters and wood. I'm sure as the weather gets better, other guests can enjoy it more. Our son also loved the little candy jar of tootsie rolls (maybe a little too much!). My apologies for not replenishing! Thank you for having us! A great stay at a reasonable price.

Our hosts had thought of everything to ensure that we had a nice stay. The house is so unique and was very comfortable for our family of four. Our kids especially loved the karaoke machine! Thank you for a great getaway weekend!

Niagara Getaway
Lori and Darren were excellent hosts. They greeted us upon our arrival and showed us around the house. A bottle of wine and butter tarts were waiting on the kitchen table for us, which was an unexpected pleasure.
The week we were at the farmhouse was very cold so we asked for a portable heater which Darren was able to supply. Darren also gave us some good tips for snow shoeing in the area. His recommendation for a golf course close by was widely used by cross country skiers as we snow shoed around the area.
The farmhouse location is by active roads so there may be some traffic noise but the location is ideal. The farmhouse is close to major sites in Niagara Falls. Niagara on the Lake and many wineries are close by.
Overall the week was an enjoyable winter break. Thanks again Lori and Darren.

Had a wonderful time
Booked this property for a much needed girls trip, and we all had the best time. The property looked great in the pictures, but it was actually SO much better in person! It had the coziest vibe. Darren and Lori were great as well! We would really love to stay here again one day!

This is the second time we have rented from these owners, they have another property next door that we stayed in last year. We loved the layout and space this property provided and the decor was amazing.
