About this cottage rental

Description:
Inverbeg Cottages are 2 luxurious waterfront holiday homes located 3 miles from the popular seaside village of Downings. The houses are on 3 acres in a tranquil location directly overlooking Mulroy Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, with access to their own private pebble beach.

Each house has its own barbeque and private patio for barbequing freshly caught fish or just relaxing while enjoying the magnificent sea views. Sit on the patio to the front of the house for breakfast & enjoy the panoramic views over Mulroy Bay. Watch the seals on the rocks and the fishing boats go past with their fresh catch heading to Downings a few times each day.

A path leads directly to the pebble beach with magnificent sea views.

Accommodation:
Each house has three ensuite bedrooms, two with ocean views, a kitchen/dining room, lounge/family room and sun room all with panoramic ocean views.
1 house sleeps 9 in beds and 2 on a sofa bed. The second house sleeps 8 in beds and 2 on a sofa bed.
The houses also feature a utility room and a separate toilet downstairs. The kitchen/dining room features a fully fitted modern kitchen with integrated appliances leading to dining area with a table and chairs and a modern fireplace. A door off the dining area leads to a large tastefully furnished sunroom that opens onto the patio area, which is equipped with a barbeque and patio furniture for complete relaxation on those long summer evenings.

The lounge/family room has a stone built open fire, Satellite TV with DVD player, a selection of games and books for entertaining children and free WiFi. It has comfortable seating and a double sofa bed.

The Area:
The area has superb beaches and has fine views across Sheephaven Bay to the Ards peninsula (with the remains of Ard House on the point of the peninsula) and the distant flat-topped peak of Muckish. It has a long standing tradition of tweed making and fishing. Downings is traditionally an Irish speaking area where you are likely to hear Irish spoken but English is the language generally in use. Sheephaven Bay has interesting walks and drives and is ideal for water sports and deep-sea angling. The Rosapenna Championship Links Golf Course is just half a mile from Downings village.

The rugged landscape of the Rosguil Peninsula also provides the basis for many activities for tourists to enjoy, including miles of golden sandy beaches and water sports such as water Skiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, deep-sea diving, sea angling & boat charters. Other activities include, horse riding, pitch and putt and hill walking.

Downings has a newly built modern leisure center called Magherabeg Leisure Center, which is open to the public and features a swimming pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, and gym. For gifts and souvenirs pay a visit to McNutt’s tweed shop and factory outlet or Joy’s of Carrigart. McNutts also have an excellent coffee shop beside the tweed factory.

Within a half hour drive of the holiday cottage there are numerous places to visit. You have Glenveagh National Park, Ards Forest Park, Glen Lough, Lough Salt, Lakeside center at Dunlewy, all of which has something for everyone. Nearby in Dunfanaghy there is the Workhouse famine museum. Churchill has the famous Glebe House & Gallery and Colmcille Heritage Centre. Letterkenny has all the amenities you would expect to find in a large town - cinema, museum, theatre, leisure centres, art galleries and excellent shopping centres. A day trip to Tory Island is highly recommended.

Inverberg No 2 is tucked into a sheltered spot with a stunning view straight down Mulroy Bay to Carrigart. All three living spaces offer comfortable places to watch the constantly changing views of the bay and the hills beyond. Seals, birds, and boats all add to the scenery. Angela has a wonderfully presented property with all the essentials (and even a few extras to make sure we felt comfortable right from our arrival). We comfortably self catered, although there are plenty of welcoming looking spots within a few minutes. All the bedrooms have large and comfortable beds, en-suit bathrooms and with bedding and towels (and beach towels) provided, there wasn't nearly as much to squeeze into the car! There are beautiful sand beaches a short walk away - sunset over Rossan Beach is a treat, but the walk along the sandy beaches just North of the cottages is lovely too. We also enjoyed visiting Fanad Head and Horn Head. Ards Forest is a fabulous combination of forest and beaches. The weather also allowed us to tackle Errigal mountain - so many beautiful things to see, it took us about 3 hours up and down. The trail is really well maintained, dry and manageable - it is ~500m vertical ascent in 2 miles of hiking (many many steps!). We brought bikes (there's shed), and cyclists can practice their climbing! Heading up to Lough Salt and back over the EV1 route from Milford to Glen is really rewarding - or just a circuit of Downings via the Westerly coast for the views towards Horn Head.

We stayed here recently for a random weekend away and what a magical weekend we had. This place is simply stunning! The views are breathtaking from when we woke up till sunset, we just couldnt get enough! The property was well appointed with all mod cons and very clean. The bed was very comfortable as well. The owners allowed us to have access to an unusual Finnish barbecue hut located on the property near the waters edge and we had a fantastic cozy night in there cooking steaks and sheltering from the wind. We hope to come back in the summer!

Initially my wife and I had planned just a couple of day break. However the tranquil location with simply stunning views over Mulroy Bay, and this tastefully appointed, modern cottage - equipped with every convenience & comfort you might require, seduced us into spending a week. A wonderful relaxing week, in a magical setting; and also being sailors with sailing dinghy in tow, the cottages own direct access to the beach topped the weeks stay.We plan to come back!
