About this house rental
IF YOU ARE SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT READ TO THE END BE SURE TO SEE THE NOTE ABOUT LINEN* BELOW (SORRY TO SHOUT BUT PEOPLE SOMEHOW STILL MANAGE TO MISS THIS DETAIL).
Illawong is an old family holiday house with absolute water frontage on Lake Macquarie. It has a panoramic north facing view which provides a spectacular setting year-round for relaxing by the water. It has its own jetty. The house has three bedrooms and a bathroom on the air-conditioned upper level. Each bedroom has two single beds. Note in the photos two of the single beds in one room are pushed together to make what might look like a double or queen-sized bed but that actually equates to a king-sized bed. This can also be done in a second bedroom. They are easily separated if desired, hence the listing as single beds. There is an optional linen service* (see below). On the middle level there is large living area opening onto a full width deck overlooking the lake. The kitchen and main bathroom are on this level. There is a bath. There is a huge DVD library and Lego with a Lego table. There is Wi-Fi. On the lakeside level are the laundry and barbecue facilities, including a paddle ski and small canoe. The house is on a large garden block and is adjacent to a grassy reserve and the Nord's Wharf itself. The garage is not available for use but there is plenty of parking. Trailered watercraft can be launched at boat ramps at south Nords Wharf or at Cams Wharf. Mooring of boats to the jetty overnight is not permitted due to the risk of unpredictable changes in the weather resulting in damage to both. The town of Nord's Wharf is a quite lakeside village. The Nords Wharf Trading Post cafe and general store is just a stroll down the road. It is 10 -15 minutes' drive to Catherine Hill Bay beach, Caves Beach and Swansea.
Please note this is not a 5-star resort. Is not even a 3-star motel. We think it is fantastic and a great relaxing family get-away but some people have come with unrealistic expectations, been disappointed and complained. The house is regularly and thoroughly cleaned at considerable expense, but if you are not able to cope with the odd daddy long legs or ant etc, or you expect The Block style furnishings and styling, this is not the place for you. However, we do try hard to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible - we like to think of it more as a share house than a rental, and as such appreciate guests taking some care with the property e.g. not trashing the carpet, putting the watercraft away after use (it's not Club Med either) etc.
Sorry, no pets. Maximum 6 people. No party weekends due to the quiet residential location.
*NOTE THERE IS AN OPTIONAL LINEN SERVICE comprising bed sheets, pillowcases and bath towels if you would prefer not to BYO. (Blankets and pillows are provided). But it costs a considerable $160 for 2 people, $175 for 4 people and $190 for 6 people even though it is billed at less than cost price (the cleaners charge me min 2 hrs to go and make up the beds (=$99), plus and extra hour to strip the beds and take the linen to the commercial laudromat (=$49) plus the laundromat fees ($17 per load). Nonetheless, having this as an opt-in alternative keep the tariffs down for those people who are prepared to BYO, which is most as it turns out. If you would like to avail yourself of this service please be sure to put it in the comments, preferably at the time of booking.

We came to town for a wedding nearby. Disappointed we didn't get to spend more time at the house. The view was amazing and with great access to the lake water sports were very enticing.
The house was exactly as described, would love to come back for another stay!

Weve stayed here before never dissapoints .
One suggestion bedroom window facing the waterfront to have a screen as mosquitos and bugs filled the room during the night other than that 10/10!

Like: location, breathtaking views, spacious, communication, amenities
Improvement scope: this place needs deep cleaning/ paints. Between 2 group of guests need a good clean including the utensils.
Good amount of bugs, which should be treated.
downstairs toilet needs fixing ( it takes a long time to fill up the tank for flushing)
Overall it is a great holiday house and we enjoyed our stay.
Good amount of bugs, can be treated

When we opened the front door, we were confronted with the smell of prawns I messaged the owner he did ring immediately. I investigated while I had him on the phone and found that below the crispers in the fridge. There was a caramel colour liquid which he kindly asked if I would clean this up and I did he offered to refund one nights accommodation.. he actually refunded me $100 that is not one nights accommodation at this property
Unfortunately it didn’t stop there. The bath tub would not drain after further investigation. There was so much hair in the drain. It was quite a process to pull it up. I have photos to prove this I managed to get about 8 inches of thick black mattered hair out of the drain But not only did it still not drain well very slowly but unfortunately there was a very strange brownish red something coming back up into the bath. The only way we were willing to shower was to put the plug in the bath at the same time, and unfortunately every time the shower was used the entire bathroom floor Became covered in one to 2 inches deep of water that stayed for many hours. There was no drain on the bathroom floor. This would be incredibly dangerous if you had anyone inclined to slip and was also really gross.
Clearly, a plumbing problem that needs to be addressed
And the cleaner is not doing their job
Great location, great view
Bathroom, disgusting
And unfortunately we left all the doors and windows open all the time because the smell of prawns did not leave

We had a great stay at Illawong house! I was there with 4 other friends for our annually trip and we had a blast. The place has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable weekend. We used the kayaks to go into the lake, we had a few swims, we enjoyed the card and board games available in the house, we had a barbecue by the lake. Beds were comfy, kitchen well equipped. It's a 5 stars for everything, except cleanliness - the house charges a fee for linen, which I only noticed a few days prior because the manager told me. And that was totally fine, except that the fee was high and the bed linen smelled a bit like mold. It didn't spoil our weekend at all, but I'd advise guests to be aware of it and warn the manager earlier if you need linen - giving the benefit of doubt, maybe it was a matter of not enough time to give a good wash? Yet, we had an amazing stay and will definitely recommend this place. Overall 5 stars!

Relaxed open plan living. Great location. Fish off the private warf. Snooze on the deck with an afternoon breeze. Three level design. Bedrooms in the middle. We had a quiet, lovely stay.

Property well described, not flash but doesn’t matter as it has everything you need. A lot of stairs but that gives you a good leg workout. Sitting on the deck overlooking the lake was so relaxing.

This was the perfect place for our 30th Anniversary. We took our double kayak and our fishing gear and had a great relaxing long weekend. The house was beautifully located on the waters edge and had plenty of room for our kids and grandkids when they came to visit.

Property was great for our family of 5. The furnishings and interior of the house are a traditional old school holiday house. The house was clean with everything we needed and some. The location is the drawcard - which is A++.

We really enjoy our stay in Nords Wharf with water front backyard and private jetty. We really enjoy we can fish at anytime, whatever how early in the morning and how late in the afternoon, it was amazing.
The house has enough living space and fully equipment kitchen.
We will definitely come back next time!

I recently stayed at this property with 3 friends. We were up from Sydney on a fishing weekend and this place could not have suited us better.
It's an incredible property with stunning views and access to Lake Macquarie. While the fish were not biting we absolutely loved that we could fish from the private wharf on the property.
It's an older style house with some fun quirks but it was perfect for our needs and we intend to stay again in the future.
As for everything else - top marks all round. Good comms, easy access, clean etc. Oh and we thought the price was more than reasonable too. Highly recommended.

Spacious Waterfront Relaxation
A fabulous family space, incredible views, room to spread out, everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Family loved the kayaks, the bird life and close proximity to coffee/supermarket etc. Yes the furniture/decor is outdated and a little mismatched and some of the kitchen equipment needed a clean before use, but that is to be expected with such a large property and such a huge range of equipment/utensils/games. Ian was very helpful and answered all of my questions promptly. I would highly recommend as a family getaway, we’ll be back for sure.
