The West End is a downtown neighborhood in Portland, Maine. It is located on the western side of Portland's peninsula primarily on Bramhall Hill and is noted for its architecture and history. The neighborhood is home to a large number of historic homes and parks and, in 2010, it was called "one of the best-preserved. This was our first time in Portland and we really enjoyed staying here. The apartment is cute, well stocked and in a good location. Having so many fans was helpful. My only gripe is that the only mirror is the bathroom vanity. I would have loved a full length mirror to use. Other than that, It felt like a home away from home.

Our stay was very enjoyable and our central location between the downtown and uptown was great. Would definitely return onWe will return next year if it's available.

Very nice and clean property. Brad was very accommodating and took care of anything we needed. This property is close to the airport and the port area for shopping, eating etc. We would definitely stay here again.

We absolutely loved out stay in Portland. This walkup was close/walking distance to everything we wanted to do. Great restaurants and drinks. Our host was awesome and available whenever we needed, he had great recommendations and ensured everything was perfect.

Host was quick to respond and gave us good tips on where to go. The apartment looks just like the photos posted, except it's actually larger than it looked. We were very comfortable and had everything we needed. The location is excellent. We really loved the neighborhood. We would definitely stay here again

Loved this apartment. Very spacious, vintage vibe. Perfect location to shops, restaurants, bars, and the waterfront! Safe to walk to all places. Brad was very accommodating and informative. Would definitely stay again.

The apt is in a great location. It's 15-20 min walk to ALL of Old Port. The Bramhall Pub is a great speakeasy directly across the street for a nightcap. There are 2 excellent coffee shops within 2 mins walk. Salvage BBQ is about 2 blocks away where you can get some awesome BBQ (hard to find outside of TX). You are also about 15 min from Hadlock Field, home of the Sea Dogs. All in all a nice place. The biggest drawback is the construction around the apt. Makes it a bit of a pain to get in and out of the apt parking but that's not a deal breaker. Landlord is a good guy - communication is easy. Stay here, you won't be disappointed

The apartment is very large, comfortable, and clean. It has a very well equipped kitchen. The location is perfect, downtown and the waterfront are walking distance. Check in was easy and the host is very responsive and helpful. I would stay here again and recommend it to others.

This might be a long story but I contacted Brad just before our first flight as it was delayed by an hour and unfortunately we missed out connecting flight to Portland. He offered to extend our stay without extra charges which we happily accepted. He was most the accommodating person for us and we would recommend anyone/couple staying here as the place was easy to find, secured and comfortable. Brad, if you are reading this, you are actually the best!!!

Brad’s apartment was in an amazing location and very spacious for the two of us. It is well kept and everything was clean and safe. Had everything we needed for our week long trip. We were first time Maine visitors and were so happy to realize we were in such an easily accessible area. The pictures don’t do it justice!

A little old, dated, and oddly equipped. Clean, just strange set-up and layout. Location was good. Would rent again.

The apartment was cozy and we loved all the amenities however the owner had a few problems that I'm sure he has fixed by now. The heater didn't work, the shower needed repair and the TV wasn't working. But Portland Maine is a very interesting historic town and we enjoyed being there

Nice space with all the necessary amenities. Conveniemt location with tons of restaurants, bakeries and shops within walking distance.

The apartment was roomy and very nicely decorated. It was comfortable and convenient to great restaurants.
This has nothing to do with the apartment, but there was very noisy construction right in front of the building. Also, the parking situation was extremely tight but was fine once we got the hang of it. I have sleep issues so a bed couch would have been helpful as I never sleep well when not at home.
That being said, it still was a great place to stay and the owner was very responsive.

My partner and I stayed in this apartment for a month. In retrospect, there were a few things I would have liked to know about the apartment upfront, including:
-The bathroom was always wet. Water leaked onto the floor from the shower, and inexplicably, there was condensation 24/7 around the outside of the toilet.
-Furniture that looks good in listing photos but do not hold up with use. The drop-leaf table dining table, for example, couldn't bear any weight on two sides without toppling over, the desk wobbled, and you could feel metal digging into your back while sitting in certain positions on the couch.
-Extensive dust and dirt in low-to-medium trafficked places. This apartment did not feel professionally cleaned between guests and could really use a deep clean.
-Lack of basic supplies. There was very little toilet paper and hand soap when we arrived and no extras provided, such that on day 2 of a 30-day stay, we had to stock up ourselves.
-Amenities listed were not actually easily accessible. There was a laundry machine in the "utility room" on the first floor, but the utility room was piled with trash and dirty laundry when we arrived (and someone seemed to live in it at times?) so was not a place where we felt comfortable doing laundry.
-Neighborhood has good walkability to downtown, but the immediate surrounding streets did not feel the safest. I experienced multiple instances of being yelled at / cat-calls while walking alone.
Had we known about these things, we likely would have chosen to stay elsewhere for our trip. These things would have been tolerable if our stay were only for a weekend, but over multiple weeks, these small inconveniences added up to a less than ideal long-term stay.

OK, even pretty, for a last minute find
A nice, spacious apartment on the edge of downtown at the top of a tortuous staircase with no railing. Manager responsive when... convenient to him? Pretty place that could have used more towels (no hand towel), a bathmat etc. (although well supplied with tech). For the price, we expected a little more...

Awesome location with off street parking
Brad was wonderfully responsive. The property was clean and comfortable. The off street parking was awesome. Highly recommend staying here.

This was very convent and we were able to walk to a variety of places. Short drive to the waterfront. We’d stay here again

Portland congress st apt
Owner was very responsive throughout the process from prior to the arrival, check in and check out. The apartment was very clean with expected amenities. Parking is very tight (expected in Portland), we had a full sized truck and was able to park in the driveway, but that may not always be possible (appreciated the owners quick response). We did not cook in the apt, but the appliances seemed to all be in working order. The downside was several drafty windows (bathroom window couldn't close properly). The heat worked well but the draft caused the heat to cycle continually (owner was made aware after we left). The bed had a big sag in the middle - we made it work for our stay, and the owner was notified.

Good location in a clean, spacious place
The apartment is on a quiet end of one of the major streets in the city and was easy to find. Parking was in back which was very nice. Neighborhood was safe and had no issues.
Breakfast, bar, and restaurant options within an easy 10 minute walk and main downtown area was no more than 20 minutes. Apartment was very clean and plenty of space to relax in. The owner was responsive to any questions that we had. Would definitely recommend it.

A few days in Portland
We had a great stay at this apartment. It is very spacious and airy. It is also nicer than the pictures show (we told Brad he needs to update those!). The location is excellent with some very nice restaurants within walking distance nearby. It is also walking distance to the waterfront and some beautiful parks. Brad was great to deal with, he called and gave us a lot of information before our arrival and was very accommodating. He responded quickly to our texts with any questions. And most importantly, our dog loved the place! We highly recommend this apartment and the landlord. We will definitely be returning.

Charming old building
Picked this place because we like West End location and because it looked interesting. Bearing in mind that it is very old, it has been renovated and furnished with several pieces of antique furniture as well as modern. It is roomy, airy and bright. Well heated for the cooler weather. Has assigned parking - important in city! Neighborhood eateries, esp. Bonobo pizza very good. Easy walk into downtown.

Great Visit to Portland ME
We had a wonderful visit to Portland ME and this apartment was a great homebase for our visit. The apartment was clean and comfortable and the owner was very helpful to us during our trip giving us pointers on great places to eat. This was our first use of Homeaway and I have told all of our friends what excellent service it was for our family. One of the best things was the location- close to the port and old town section of Portland.
