Location is great if your not looking for anything fancy, if you want cheap this is your place. To start you will have trouble finding the place because from the outside it looks like a broken down barn. The door was unlocked and broken upon arrival. Kitchen had fruit flies that came from nowhere, microwave is rusted and coffee pot would spill water all over counter if you used the delay button. Upon entering main bedroom there was a smell of dead dog or vomit. We finally figured out it was from the pillows, sheets and bed. Lucky there was washer and dryer, two pillows were unusable due to smell, after washing sheets, bedspread and flipping mattress smell was finally gone. We could not use the dirty deck because every time we sat out there it smelled like dog s##t. The supposed kayak was filled with mud and dirt and a broken lamp. I have never been so disappointed in my life! Swim area was nice but boat ramp is all gravel and dirt so we drove to Cookeville Boat Dock to launch boat. I doubt any cleanup, washing sheets etc is done. It could be a really nice place if cleaned up and maybe painted. Also toilet and refrigerator made strange noises.

I’ve never pulled up to a rental and felt so terrible about a decision in my life. The place was literally falling apart/ down the hill! Buckets with 2x4’s holding up the front of this rustic cabin, nails everywhere, wasn't clean like all the other rentals I’ve stayed in, he has it listed under a super host, nope! Insects everywhere and even falling from the ceilings in the middle of the night on us in our sleep! We were walking around light footed the whole time scared to death! All of the floors had hole weak type areas underneath the flooring where it would sink. The instructions for the cabin said not to wear shoes inside but we found sharp copper wiring pieces on the rug in the living room and a roofing nail… so we wore shoes inside to be safe. No sharp knives to cut fruit or our steaks. The coffee maker wouldn’t work so we had a neighbor in another cabin. Drew us a whole pot for our family. The pictures were completely deceiving! Showed the view from the little red cabin in front of ours to make it look better… so wrong to do that! Not one picture of the actual cabin in his photos except for where the garage is and kayaks. There is a hot tub but it is disgusting and surrounded by workers construction mess!! Spend some quality time as the owner and make ALL the the repairs it requires to be an actual safe place to stay!! It could be a cute place but honestly it shouldn’t be allowed to be used as a rental until a contractor comes to make some major repairs!!

Perfect getaway. Could have used a sharp knife in the kitchen.

We had reservations to arrive at check in time (4pm central) on Thursday May 4, 2023 abcs check out on Saturday May 6, 2023. We arrived Thursday at approximately 6pm central and the handyman/house cleaner was there and he has been staying there and had the place a total wreck. I have photos of unmade slept in beds, empty food and drink containers everywhere, broken glass all over floor, dirty dishes and cigarette butts on floor. He finally finished up and left canon at about midnight Thursday night!!😱

Although the owner was a gentleman, the neighborhood leaves something to be desired. All dogs are running around unleashed with no owners in sight. Appallingly rude neighbor. Great location with beautiful deck amenities we were afraid to use after verbal abuse from stranger the minute we arrived.

Property manager was great communicating but that’s where it ended. We had to clean mouse poop from everything including in the silverware drawer before we could use anything. The dust bunnies, dirt, mold and cigarette ashes everywhere plus the garbage still from the last time someone was there seemed like cleaning isn’t an extra fee we should be paying for. We didn’t have any internet (there was a router but no connections plus hardly any cell service) or landlines in case of emergencies. The house was not on the water as the pics may make others believe (as we did) it’s close at least but across the little road and down the landing. House is at the bottom of a very narrow, steep, winding path so beware if you have a giant vehicle or it’s icy. No hand soap or washcloths made the first night interesting using the decorative cloth I found (my hands are still stained from the color bleeding out of it) and only dish soap. We went out and about so we left what we bought. I guess Vrbo doesn’t have standards because we could get past the “rustic” falling apart house but the filth is just not ok. Would NOT recommend staying here even for the little view there was!

We enjoyed our stay. The place was spacious. Deck was filled with leaves and the stairs were hard for my Father to get up. We would stay again because it was a fun place with lots of space.

It was a pleasant stay. Rustic, high steps, high up the hill - But enjoyable! Host provided complimentary wares from their local bakery - very tasty! Roomy and a good view from atop the hill. We fished and had a good time!

While the description says rustic and retro, it lands more to older and dingy. The first impression comes from 2 flights of stairs. I'm sure it was my misunderstanding that the stairs pictured are actually the entrance. They aren't exactly uniform in height or stair width. (Being hard for my 81 y.o. mother, so beware if you have anyone in your group that might struggle with stairs).

The property is very comfortable. The atmosphere is fantastic. It is truly a great place to relax, reconnect with loved ones, and have a GREAT time!
The cottage is centrally located to all of the wonderful outdoor activities; Burgess Falls, Cummings Falls, Window Cliffs, Edgar Evin State Park, Rock Island State Parks and so much more. Only 20 minutes to Cookeville. The BEST part.....BEAUTIFUL Center Hill Lake is right in front of you.
We found both the caretaker and the owner to be very helpful, accessible, and responsive. We got to know them both a little while we were there. We left feeling as though we had made new friends.
I can't think of a better place to get rid of stress and anxiety, as well as reconnect with your family.
Our 12 yr old son and 8 yr old granddaughter accompanied us for the 10 day stay. Yes, we had to stay a couple of extra days, totally unplanned! LOL Two of our adult children came up for the weekend and joined us. They absolutely loved it! They both said they were coming back as soon as they had vacation time. We had better get an invite!
The cell service IS spotty. For us, it was a welcome relief....a good excuse not to have to answer a phone. The kids did NOT even mention wanting their electronics or gaming devices.
This entire experience turned out to be a blessing, and certainly the best vacation ever!
Would we go back to stay here again? ABSOLUTELY! We plan to do just that!

Great place for boat access to lake
The porch was awesome. We loved the area below to pull our boat into. The lake access was great!
The house could use some updates.

Pretty decent
A little disapointed that there was no notification about the hot tub being out of order so We didn't find out until we got there and saw a note on the door. Other than that everything was very pleasent. Property is very down to earth and not overly fancy. It feels lived in and gives a good comfortable feeling while there. The large deck is absolutely amazing the pictures don't do it justice. Absolutely will stay here again!

Lakeside cabin
The neighborhood was quiet and the access to the lake was easy. I really enjoyed the large deck. Coffee was available which is always a plus for me! The pictures shared on Vrbo are very deceptive and I was surprised at how run-down the place was when we arrived. It definitely needs a little TLC. It was not as clean as I would have liked and one set of bed coverings were either unwashed or stained to the point that they need to be replaced. One expectation of check-out was to load our dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start it before we left. The dishwasher was full when we arrived. Does this mean we were expected to unload the dishes from the previous guest so we could load ours? I do understand that the owner is not likely the one who cleans between guests, so he/she might want to look at hiring a different cleaning service. I think I would have been more comfortable with the place if not for the deceptive pictures and description. I was expecting one thing and got something very different. I think this would be a great place to stay with a little maintenance and possibly another cleaning service. I would not stay here again in its current condition.

July 2021 Review
Difficult finding the property as the address sign is in a poor location. The BBQ did not work. The property has a serious ant problem along with mice that feasted on our food and pooped on the kitchen surfaces. Broken or missing lights showed a lack of concern for the property. In contrast, the location was beautiful, the lake was awesome, and there was lots of fun.

Hummm
The lake was beautiful we only got to see it from the deck of the camp it was way to steep to walk down the boat ramp or climb back up it . Now if we would have had a boat it would have been great !!!

upkeep
the gas grill is junk, the a/c filter is disgusting, the dishwasher is junk, we had to replace at least 6 light bulbs, the owner requested no shoes in the house..we don't know why since the carpet was filthy I bought new mats for the kitchen so we didn't have to step on the ones that were there.

Enjoyed our stay and the Rustic Cabin. Loved the convenience of having the boat ramp so close. Thanks for sharing your home with us.

This house is nothing close to advertised. It has rotted wood on the deck with holes a child could about fall through. It is not clean. After one night here our entire family woke covered in bug bites.. my 11 year old daughter so bad that she had her right eye swollen shut. We had to find other places to stay and couldn't even bring our bags and our clothes bc the were infested w cockroaches and fleas!!!! The property owner refused to refund us bc we left our clothes there while we slept in hotels (paid for by us on top of paying for the rental) bc they said they'd have a fumigation expert come in and take care of it!! So we couldn't stay there bc health and safety concerns and the owner refuses to refund us when by all rights he should be held accountable for our additional hotel cost we incurred as well as the medical bill for having to take our daughter in bc of the bug bites. DO NOT STAY HERE YOU WILL BE HIGHLY HIGHLY DISSAPOINTED

Sweet little house
This house was great for a last minute trip. We weren’t expecting extraordinary, just a place to lay our heads at night after chasing waterfalls all day. It served this purpose perfectly. The master king bed was spacious and super comfortable. The bedding felt clean. The couch in the main area is definitely on its last leg and the TVs didn’t have a lot of options for movies, but it definitely wasn’t a big issue. Overall a great little house.

Ellies stay
Ellie (our wonderful hound dog) had a great staying in this home. The location on the lake was perfect for what she was looking for. The huge deck created an awesome outdoor living area, and she loved the steak that was grilled for her on the large grill. She did think that the TVs needed to be upgraded as well as the furniture. All and all she gave it four paws up!!!

Beautiful views on the lake
Very comfortable place and very spacious. We enjoyed the hot tub and also the pictures and albums along the wall. Beds were comfortable. Recommend security lighting at entry way and stairway, as we got there after it was dark outside. We enjoyed the lake view and it was nice to have the kayaks.

Fantastic peaceful lake house.
I really enjoyed this lake house. It is right up the hill from the lake with a view and huge back deck to enjoy it. Great communication with owner. We had an issue that the owner responded in 30 mins and sent someone twice to make sure it was remedied. Hot tub was nice and record player was a great touch as well. Kitchen has some spices and such, not a huge variety but still helpful. Towels and laundry room products were also here. Kitchen was great so we were able to cook some meals. 23 minute drive to two wineries, which I loved. Stairs up to house are steep so be cautious when carrying to much luggage at once.

Great location, but property has many problems.
We’ve rented a dozen VRBO’s over the years, this is the 1st time we’ve ever had to give a low score. If you are a neat-nick and like everything to operate properly, this place isn’t for you.
These things worked/were nice: A/C, WIFI, Electricity & water, Hot tub, Deck, Beds, Towels, location. Property MGR is easy to work with - had to push our week back from March into Aug. due to a Covid & they allowed us to do that.
We we didn’t like:
Fridge door is broken/propped up with a tape measure under where it hinges - we let them know this & they sent the housekeeper down who said it just broke and they didn’t have time to fix. Hope it’s fixed now for other renters b/c that was very strange to have a tape measure squeaking under the door every time we opened it.
Fridge crisper drawer broken/shattered.
Fridge shelves were dirty: hair & crumbs.
Ice maker in the freezer doesn’t work & inside of the freezer was dirty.
Lock on the sliding glass door doesn’t work - you have to wedge a stick in the base to keep it shut/locked & the bottom track is filthy. The housekeeper said that just happened too and they didn’t have time to fix. I sure hope it’s fixed by this writing. Not a very safe feeling not being able to lock the door.
Dishwasher won’t start when you press start, it ran an entire cycle without washing the 1st time. Eventually our kids got it to work by pushing various combinations of buttons.
The oven racks don’t fit inside/stay up - they aren’t wide enough. Found one spot where one would stay up and we held our breath that it wouldn’t drop when we baked a pizza in there.
Every burner on the stovetop has a big burnt ring around it. The drawer on the bottom is off its track and there is duct tape holding part of the stove together on the top.
Washing machine doesn’t really agitate.
Dryer doesn’t turn off when you open the door - the barrel keeps spinning full force - be careful. Don’t open the door and reach in as you’d normally do.
A window by the hot tub is broken. It is a 2 paned window and one pane is shattered with shards of glass still there.
The toilet in the master bathroom seems to be on rotting, sinking flooring that slopes downward dramatically.
This toilet also runs constantly.
We tried the record player once but the speakers completely blown.
Master bedroom bedspread had hair & glitter on it when we arrived. We had to wash immediately.
Lots of dog hair in the carpet.
You'll need an SUV/truck w/4x4 to manage the road/driveway
