About this farm stay rental
This home has history, space to spread out, modern comforts and the peace of being secluded in a wooded haven, yet restaurants are within walking distance! And, it's all yours! This is NOT a primary or shared residence. Its sole purpose is to provide you with a relaxing getaway without having to worry about host belongings or clutter! A modern kitchen with granite counter tops and amazing appliances greet you upon entry. The large formal dining room will take you back to the 1800's and feels more like a ballroom with its 11' ceilings. The stair landings will make you say "awww!" The parlor and living rooms provide main floor gathering spaces, while the former office provides a main floor bedroom. There is also a full bathroom on the main floor. We are excited to tell you that the sun room has been converted into a spa room, complete with a hot tub and sauna (separate access fee)!! The upper level has 4 bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The lower level has a more rustic feel like a pub, with natural wood beams overhead, and stone walls. The lower level also has another large bedroom as well as a full bathroom. Outside, if you didn't see it when you came in, you will find an amazing patio, complete with gas grill. That cute little cottage beside it has a queen bed, full bathroom, and kitchenette (separate access fee)! The rest of the farmstead has a large garage for our maintenance equipment. Check out the old silo beyond the parking area! Don't climb it, but stay tuned because we plan on renovating it into a lookout platform and maybe even unique additional living quarters! In our site photos, you’ll notice there are real hops growing on the side of the silo. The back pasture is more of an orchard with apple, cherry and other fruit trees that grace the property, and we have grape vines there, too.

This home was absolutely amazing!! We had 7 groomsmen, the groom and our immediate family staying here and there was plenty of room and we were never on top of each other. We had the rehearsal supper here as well and accommodated almost 50 people!
Every time you turned around there was something more interesting to see (antiques, photos, and an organ!) The grounds are beautiful and the patio is a great outdoor space.
We had a terrific time in this terrific house and were extremely sad to leave.

This quaint, historic house had everything to offer for a cozy stay, whether visiting the Southbend area or going to the game. We enjoyed: the spacious scenic property, huge dining room table, large kitchen, ecletic decoe & pictures, 3 minute walk to the Indiana-Michigan border, and so much more. There were plenty of cozy bedrooms, bathrooms, hottub & sauna, great patio, big screen TV to watch the games, etc. We loved this beautiful property, had a great time, and would definitely stay again.

We stayed here to attend our daughters wedding at Saint Joe’s farm. It was a great place to gather after all of the festivities wind down. Nice large area to sit and talk with family. Would definitely stay here again!

Plusses: Clean historic building. Lots of space that was ideal for our family (20 people total), especially the large dining room table and separate living room and sitting rooms. Upstairs bathroom is spacious along with the master bedroom. We added the sauna, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The kitchen is functional and was adequate for our needs. Building manager and contractor were both very responsive to our issues (see minuses).
Minuses: Upon our arrival the water pressure was literally to a trickle. Showers could not be taken, washing dishes took an extended time, and long waits between toilet flushes. After some discussion with the contractor (who thankfully was courteous and prompt) it was discovered that there was a whole house water iron filter that had gotten plugged up. Once replaced and the appropriate valves were opened up the water pressure was back to normal. I recommend to the owners that this filter be checked and changed regularly (like, at every time change?). The biggest issue was the beds. The master bedroom had a good mattress, but all of the other bedrooms need updating. In one of the upstairs rooms my son and his wife had to put the mattress on the floor in order to sleep.
If the mattress issue is resolved in the future we would consider staying here again and would recommend the property contigent to this.

First of all, the owners and the personal assistant were great to work with. Good communication, the directions to the home were very easy to follow and the property was very easy to check into. The home is a great historic property and was large enough for our group of 16 people. The dining room was perfect for our large family to gather for meals and games. The kitchen was well stocked, however, the items could use a bit up updating. We did get the use of the hot tub as well which was nice. Very easy to find and is only a few minutes from town where you could easily get anything you needed. We didn't use the internet very much as we had to keep resetting the router. We had 2 major issues and 1 minor one that would stop us from renting again. (1) The heat in the house is crazy! Even with the heaters, the main floor is either feast or famine when it comes to heat. The TV area and main floor bedroom are very warm, but the kitchen area and attached sitting room are freezing. Trying to get the heat to even out in either room was ridiculous. There is a wood stove/fireplace in the kitchen area/sitting room which you can tell was put in for heating purposes but we were not allowed to use that. The other main issue is the beds are horrible throughout the entire house. The only bed that was comfortable for any of the guests was the king bed in the upstairs main bedroom. All of the other beds literally had dipped in the middle of them and were very hard or lumpy. We had several of our group choose to find a couch to sleep on as they were more comfortable than the beds. The other minor issue was there is hardly any water pressure in the house. We learned quickly on our first day that you cannot have more than 1 person showering at a time in any of the 3 bathrooms. We understood we were renting a historic home and did so for the size which was great, however until the heat and definitely the bed situation is fixed, we would not rent this particular property again.

We had an amazing time at this property. Great place and very cool. A super neat old house so a few quirky things like light switches in odd places but a fair trade for such a cool place.

We stayed four nights with family-adult children, siblings and grandchildren. And we hosted a rehearsal dinner Friday night and it was great! Many of our group said they liked the "farmhouse" feel and there was room for us all with a yard for the children. Having a large dinning room table large enough for us all was unusual and very nice.

The house was very unique and different. The main floor had ample space for a larger group and the dining room was great to seat everyone. The spa room was a nice addition and the firepit outside was great.
All kitchen utensils and dinnerware needed to be cleaned before use. Some of the beds are in terrible shape. Many of them sag in the middle and some worse than I’ve ever seen. The basement area can feel a bit creepy for those not used to old, dark spaces. Some of the countertops were a bit sticky on first use and the light didn’t work in the spa room.
It was a unique place to stay and suited our needs, especially outside.

Cool property, bad beds
Very cool property. Loved the atmosphere. However several of the beds were hard to sleep in and when we got there it looked as if the cleaning person left mid job. But overall it was a neat house to stay in.

Daughter's wedding in Cassopolis Michigan.
First I will start with what I thought was great about the property. We had 19 people staying at the house for our daughter's wedding in Cassopolis Michigan. The parking space on the property was fantastic. Plenty of room for all the cars with a big group. Plenty of room in the house. Bathrooms were all clean and ample for all of us to get showers. I don't think there were any issues on hot water with that many people taking showers. Kitchen area was great. One of the guys with us loves to cook and cooked several big breakfasts for the group. Even made a small wedding cake for our daughter. He absolutely loved the Thermador oven. Two complaints though. Basement was very musty smelling when we got there and took several days if running dehumidifiers and emptying them to get tolerable smell for people to sleep down there and 4 of the beds in the house were down there. Biggest suggestion I think would be the mattresses. All the mattresses were very uncomfortable and need to be replaced. One in the master bedroom was a little better. Great grocery store and several places to eat right down the road. If bringing kids stairs could be an issue. 3 year old loved the house and it's large size. It was like an adventure for him. 15 month old was an issue with the stairs. We should have brought a safety gate. However overall stay was good. Grounds were nice and if you love old houses this would definitely be up your alley.

Historic Kownover Farm house in Granger, IN
We so much enjoyed our stay at Kownover and all the beautiful history of this property. We celebrated our son's graduation and had a wonderful time. It was clean and had so many things available to spend the day either playing games outside, using the fire pit, or reading one of the available books in a quiet rocking chair. Would definitely rent this property again.

Perfect house for a large group
This house is so neat & a perfect size for large groups! We had the max amount of people allowed (both adults & children) and had plenty of space both inside & outside (including the spa room & cottage). It was both fun & relaxing! We all do recommend new mattresses (squeaky & not the most comfortable) and a recommendation to the housekeepers for improvement on dusting & vacuuming. Overall, it's a great place!

Beautiful home in a lovely setting.
This house was perfect for our large family group, and the perfect venue for our granddaughter’s graduation reception. The grounds are well maintained and good for small children to play. The kitchen is well-equipped and we cooked large family meals. We hope to stay again!

Wedding Weekend
We booked for family to stay together for a wedding of son. House was perfect for the occasion. Outside property is beautiful and we enjoyed fire pit at night with family laughing and talking. Host had several thoughtful extras like umbrella, plenty of towels, toilet paper and etc that I usually don't see in other rentals. Our only complaint was most of the beds were noisy and uncomfortable

Lots of room
This property was perfect for our large family reunion. All 16 of us were able to sleep comfortably. The large table was super helpful for meal times.. And there was enough room for the kids to stay active inside during our snowy stay. We hope to return in the future to make many more memories. We'll worth the price.

Excellent house for large family gathering
The house perfectly met our needs for a family get-together over the holiday period. There was plenty of space for our group of 12 people, mostly adults and teens. The kitchen, dining and living space was spacious for preparing meals and socializing, and there was more than enough bedrooms and beds for privacy. We will be staying again!!

Wonderful home for our family Thanksgiving
This home provided a great stay for our family Thanksgiving. The large table enabled our large group (14) to all eat together at one table with seats to spare. Throughout our stay, we would often have one room where people were watching TV (the parlor) and another room (the living room) that sometimes would be a "quiet room" for reading, and at other times we would be watching TV in there as well.
The management was great and very supportive. Two specific examples:
* The electric can opener didn't work and we couldn't find a manual one (we ended up finding it a few days later). In the meantime, the owner dropped off a new electric can opener for us to use.
* My son left a bag behind and the owner found it the next day and shipped it to us. Of course, we paid for the shipping, but their support in quickly helping us figure this out reduced our family stress quite a bit!
We enjoyed playing board games and working puzzles at the table when we weren't eating. (We brought our own board games. I think they may have had some but I honestly didn't even look!)
Some of the dishes were lacking to prepare all the food we needed for Thanksgiving. That is somewhat to be expected and we did bring several dishes from home expecting to not have all the things we needed. We are following up with the owner to let them know some things we would suggest adding to the kitchen. If you go and you need 9x13 pans or cookie sheets, I would bring some. We also ended up buying some plastic cups because there weren't enough water glasses for all of us.
I highly recommend this house and the owner/management.

Lots of room
The property is well-maintained with a lot of beds. The kitchen has a commercial-size stove with all essential items and utensils. We were disappointed that the TVs didn't offer regular cable or channels. The Roku set up wasn't user friendly, and we lost streaming because the WiFi was way too slow and gets easily overloaded with internet users. Download speed ranged between 4.3 Mbps to11.4 Mbps. At my home I get 116 Mbps. The WiFi needs to be addressed. The home is located about a quarter mile from a CVS and about a half mile from Martin's Market which is a very good and well-stocked market. The property sits on acreage. The border to Michigan is less than a quarter mile north where many farms can be seen. My group traveled to Notre Dame which was about 7 1/2 miles away down SR23. We would stay there again, but hope the internet speed gets addressed, and basic cable would be a plus.

We walked in and saw the stove in the kitchen and we knew we found the right spot for our family get together. THEN we walked into the dining room and that table was perfect for everything. Again, this house works for family get togethers.Upstairs beds could use an upgrade, but that did NOT take away the amount of fun we had getting together and healing from the loss of our beloved family leader from COVID earlier this year. He would have loved the house.Conversations with the owner and owner's representative were outstanding.

Awesome rental
The house was exactly what we needed for a large group. Lots of room. The dinning room table was the first one big enough for all of us to sit and eat at a table together. No other rental has had a huge table. Plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. the outside was great grilling space. I will have to say the bed are not the most comfortable but we all slept ok. I loved the rental over all. David was great at communicating through the 2 years it took us to get to the house with COVID canceling our trip the first year. Thank you David, I would recommend your house to everyone.

Big Chill - The Great Escape
Plenty of room to spare in this great old house. We had 6 couples here and never felt crowded. The location is great, we could have walked to nearby restaurants but the chilly temps told us otherwise. If you want to have some great food, check out Yesterday's...great food, geat atmosphere! We had a great weekend!

Great home to rent!
Great central location. Large enough to have multiple families stay together. Everyone had a bed (mattresses could stand an upgrade) and plenty of bathrooms. Cottage was cute and perfect for extra privacy. Plenty of space for cars and kids enjoyed playing outside. Loved, loved, loved the long table for the family to gather!

Beautiful property and easy assessable to dining out, walking, shopping and Notre Dame. Outside sitting area was very relaxing and peaceful. Inside, plenty of room for our knitting group and dining room table seats 18 people. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

We thought from the online listing there was 7 bedrooms, not understanding the smaller house made 7, at additional cost, also 4.5baths included the smaller house, felt difficult misleading to understand

60th Birthday Perfection
This is our second time at Kownover Farm. The first was for our son's wedding two years ago. We liked it so much when starting to make plans for my 60th birthday we immediately thought of coming back. The house is utterly charming, spacious and comfortable. The property is large with a great area for parking. All of our festivities were indoors but a word of caution for those of a more raucous nature, the property gives a great sense of seclusion, but it's nestled within a suburban neighborhood. Be courteous outside. I can't wait for our next big event to stay here again.
