About this cottage rental
A gorgeous detached cottage set in a stunning location high above the rooftops and historic buildings of Wirksworth. The cottage has been lovingly restored to the very highest standards. The area around the Wee House has the feel of a Cornish fishing village – a random patchwork of houses and gardens removed from traffic and noise. The Wee House is peaceful, quiet and has an ‘away from it all’ feel – yet it is only a short amble down the hill to the quirky boutique shops and independent eateries below. Great for a relaxing break away or an ideal place to set off on adventures in the surrounding Peaks – you can walk and cycle from the door.

We had a fantastic week in the Wee Cottage on the Hill. There are so many wonderful local walks up to the quarry and down to Cromford.
The cottage is lovely, it is comfortable, well equipped and has stunning views.

We absolutely loved the Wee House. The property was ideal with fabulous views and an extremely comfortable bed! It was well equipped. Parking was a bit more tricky as we had a large vehicle. Lots of local info was provided and we enjoyed several beautiful walks direct from the cottage. The town was charming and we particularly enjoyed dinner at Le Mistral. We certainly hope to make a return visit.

Lovely quirky cottage in an excellent location, as long as you’re ok with hills! Has everything you need for a very comfortable stay.

Beautiful old cottage renovated to a very high standard and in immaculate condition. Great attention to detail and comfort.
We loved our stay here, high in this stunning quirky village. So much history here, great eating places and pubs, small independent shops.
Very kind and helpful owners.

Great for walks and pubs

Small but perfectly formed, the Wee House is the ideal get away. Peaceful, (no passing traffic), amazing views across the valley. Too cold to sit outside but sooo cozy inside with the fire lit. Super comfy bed in a spacious bedroom made it hard to get up every morning! Well equipped kitchen if you do cook in but many pubs and restaurants, especially the Mistral, make it unnecessary!
Thank you Sarah and Mal. We hope to see you again!

Great little cottage up on a hill with wonderful views over Wirksworth. Had everything we needed. Plenty of walking without taking the car, owners had thoughtfully left local walking books and leaflets. Quirky local cinema a few mins walk away. Nice restaurants nearby. A great place for our short stay.

Great location, delightful cottage

Mal & Sarah's place is a fabulous, well-appointed retreat from the busy-ness of many other towns. Wirksworth itself is really a good example of treading the balance between a working town and the steady march of gentrification. Most places here are run by independent locals; and so it should! Don't change because I'm going to retire here :)

Beautifully presented little cottage with lovely patio area where you can sit with a cup of tea or glass of wine, enjoying the incredible views and tranquility of this tucked away little gem.
This traditional cottage is just perfect for two. Spotlessly clean, open lounge and kitchen with all mod cons, wood burner and lots of information about the local area.
Upstairs the bedroom has a gorgeous Armoire for hanging clothes, a fabulously comfortable bed which is like sleeping on a cloud. The ensuite bathroom, although modern, like the rest of the cottage still has its lovely original features.
We didn't get to meet Sarah but Mal was a perfect host and explained everything we needed to know for our stay. Thank you Mal and Sarah we had a great stay and would love to come back.

The property is very cute, clean, and has amazing views! The owners are super nice cheery people! The view does require quite a hike up a very steep hill. But worth it 😄

A comfortable property, up a very steep hill, with great views especially from the outdoor seating spaces.

Communication with Sarah prior to our stay was excellent and Mal provided a very warm welcome on arrival with lots of local recommendations! The Wee House has beautiful views across the town/hills and the property had everything we needed for our stay. It is also located near many local attractions including the Crich Tramway and Cromford Mills - both well worth a visit. Thank you very much!

Perfect cottage for two. Romantic, cosy and comfortable.
Fabulous base for walking the southern Derbyshire dales.

The property is modern and has many eco friendly characteristics. It is a quiet location but accessible on a steep hill best suited to a younger clientele. Parking is difficult with restricted spaces at the bottom of the hill

The Wee Little House on the hill is a homely, perfectly-kept, and beautifully located hideaway, high up on a hill with stunning views out over the town of Wirksworth and the valley its located in, with nearby access to walks on the High Peak Trail. Sarah and Mal are the perfect hosts, warm, welcoming, responsive, and generous with their knowledge of the local area, the best places to eat and shop, and things to see. You will instantly feel at home in the Wee House and never want to leave.

Just amazing
The property was adorable and perfect over the Easter weekend. We were lucky enough to have gorgeous weather over the weekend so we were able to have breakfast everyday enjoying the views from the terrace.
The views are just WOW. And the property was perfect.
Lovely hosts with a cute dog too! Location is great as there are many pubs and eateries in the town. We cooked most nights though and everything was great

A Perfect Escape
Spotless, cosy and everything was just a beautiful as the photos show.
Welcomed by super helpful owner and inside a comprehensive folder gave all the information required.
We have walked up and down the hills and dales (there are lots of hills) and explored Wirksworth and neighbouring Cromford.
The wee house also supports sustainable products which was an added bonus. All available from the skopa shop in the town.
Would happily recommend and return to this rental which was made extra magical by the amazing sunshine this week.

Fabulous cottage
Fabulous cottage in the lovely town of Wirksworth. With great views over the town, this little cottage has everything you need for a holiday in the Peak District. Easy access to surrounding towns and superb walks and things to do and visit in and around wirksworth. Can’t wait to return

Wonderful week in The Wee House
We’ve just had the most wonderful week away in Wirksworth, staying in The Wee House!!! Everything was exactly as we’d hoped when we chose the cottage, except maybe the walk up the hill, which we had hoped would have been a little easier than indicated (Ha ha!).
The cottage was cosy, warm, welcoming, spotlessly clean and well equipped, with a fire ready made and tea/ coffee & biscuits waiting for us on arrival. The bed & bedding were super snuggly, although slightly less firm than our own at home.
Despite the uphill walk from the town, we loved the location of the cottage, with its lovely views, and made the most of the local restaurants & pubs most evenings.
The weather was a bit disappointing during our week, but we walked and cycled miles everyday, including a walk from the house to Cromford & back (with a lovely lunch at the Greyhound) and a walk/ cycle ride from the cottage to Minninglow & back along the High Peak Trail.
Sarah & Mal (along with their friend Martin) were all really friendly & helpful; providing lots of info & tips and there are lots of books/ maps & guides in the house too.
The only things we’d have found useful but not essential, that weren’t supplied were a tea cosy & a pizza cutter.
We were very sad to leave after our wonderful week, but hope we’ll be able to return again very soon!!!!

Beautiful property in lovely quiet location
This is a wonderful place and the hosts have been very helpful.
Cornwall can be busy but the farm is away from it all and offers a haven of peace.

celebration holiday
We loved the way the house has been simply decorated to show off it's period charm. It was clean and decorated to a high standard and a super comfy bed . Lovely views from the house and terrace, shame the weather didn't allow us to enjoy al fresco dining more.
Would have been nice to have an electric heated towel rail in the bathroom to dry off towels rather than having to put the heating on throughout when it wasn't needed . A 1600 spin speed on the washing machine would have also helped as it was difficult to get washing dry.
Also agreed with others about the small amount of glasses /crockery and the gate leg table not that comfortable to sit at. We turned it round and opened it up which worked better and gives you room to open up maps also a light over the table /sofa would be an improvement as it was difficult to see to read.
Other reviews have made the comment about the steepish narrow path up to the house and the difficulty of finding a parking space some days. The puzzle garden area is a charming area to stay and does come with it's access problems but we did find a parking space further up on the wider part of Green hill and loaded the car from this end of the path.
Many thanks Mal and Sarah
