We we’re relatively late booking a place for the weekend on the island so choices were few. This place was available, we booked and remarkably it was located next to our grown children

We had a great time easily enjoying the Island for the first time.

We had a great time staying in this little cottage in town. Convenient to everything whether you chose to walk or drive. Clean and comfortable to just relax and regroup when getting ready for your next island adventure.

This is our second visit to Beaver Island because we absolutely love it! The house was cozy, comfortable and homey. It was perfect for our purpose of enjoying the island. We also like that the location- right in the heart of downtown/ close to the ferry, restaurants, grocery store. and the public beach.
We’ll definitely be back

Cabin was comfortable and convenient. They were in the middle of a small remodel, but the host was accommodating.

We were on Beaver Island for a family wedding. The location was great! Walking distance to/from the ferry, the market and the Strawberry Cafe is right across the street, and the home is very close to the Lodge which was where the wedding was held. The home was clean and well-stocked. Our 6 adults fit comfortably in the home. Communication was great! We were very happy with our short stay here!

We arrived Sunday night. Had to walk from ferry to house. Not a bad walk, recent foot surgery made the walk a little more difficult. Beaver island publication indicated bike, car & golf cart rentals were available. No golf cart rentals on island & almost everything was closed on Sundays, which would have been good to know, as we planned on transportation & dinner out, that night. Husbands to the rescue and found a gas station opened and bought frozen pizza. The house was able to sleep 6, 2 bedrooms downstairs with 2 twin beds upstairs. No air conditioning however fans were available. House is in process of being updated...washer and dryer had been removed (rental photo shows w&d in kitchen area). Sofa had a stretch cover which kept shifting and sliding around. Adequate pots and pans, cups and glasses, plates and eating utensils. Carol brought over more towels upon request. A few more restaurants were open on Monday, mostly quick "bar" food, several more opened on Tuesday for the remainder of the week. Steve at the brewery was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the island eateries. People, in general, very friendly. Electric bike rentals were very expensive. We ended up renting a car from Carol, until Tuesday.

The house is always clean and comfortable, with some goofy board games and lots of cozy blankets. We appreciated the quiet place to rest on our work trip to the island.

Just a great place, start to finish.
Carol makes you feel at home from the start and everything about the place was just so great. Can't say enough good things about the Blue House/Carol and Beaver Island as a whole.
Already started figuring out how to go back next year!

Great little cottage just steps away from water, store, brewery, restaurant and short walk to much more! Beds were comfy, lots of fans to help keep cool and the host was accommodating. We also rented a car through them which is needed to get to the beaches. Also have electric bikes.

We’ve now stayed here two years in a row. The location is perfect - literally a stone’s throw from the grocery store and the excellent breakfast cafe. The main part of town is a pleasant 15-minute walk away, and there you can find a few shops and a couple of cafes/restaurants. Carol is an excellent host, and she’s right next door if anything comes up. We hope to make it three years in a row next year :)

Love the house but the porch and lawn and bushes all need attended. Could use a good lawn care service.

This was perfect for a weekend getaway with my husband. Walking distance to the nearby grocery store, brewery, and restaurant. Carol also rents vehicles which is a bonus. We will definitely be back.

Pros:
.Owners are wonderful and very helpful people.
.The house is walking distance to everything you want to do, with the grocery store being a stone's throw away.
.Even with the house being "in town" it was still quiet.
.Directly next door the owner's also rent Ebikes and cars and have a cute gift shop, including the St. James Boat shop.
Cons:
.Is in desperate need of a deep cleaning; dust and cobwebs covered the wood walls and pretty much anything that wasn't used daily, like pictures, windowsills, etc.
.The kitchen was scarcely stocked and it was difficult to prepare meals with the *few* items that were provided. The items that were provided were so used and broke down that it was maddening. Also, the kitchen was greasy...the cabinets, stove and dishes.
.Outside deck was dilapidated and you had to be really intentional where you stepped with bare feet so as not to catch a nail or broken board.
.Spiral staircase was sketchy.
.Broken furniture, uncomfortable beds.
Overall, if your main goal is a great location with walkability, this is a wonderful spot. However, if you're looking for a place to stay where you can cook meals, tuck in and have a homey vibe, maybe this isn't it.
Last, I'd like to note that the owner's did state they will be remodeling this house this winter. Perhaps it will be updated for the 2023 season!

Nice house, the experience could be nicer with a bit of cleaning and uncluttering. Compared to the rest, the bathroom was clean. Beds are comfortable, kitchen is lacking equipment: glases, cuterly, more than one(!) pot. Nice terrace. Easy Check-in. Good location close to supermarket and café.

Perfect Spot - close to everything
We loved our quick stay at the house. It was a perfect location to go for a run in the morning, grab groceries from across the street, or grab breakfast (and a mimosa) at Delwhinnies. Highly recommended and lots of space inside!

Beaver island stay 2022
The owners are in the process of updating. An introduction to the alterations in progress would have been helpful. We enjoyed the location, the manager/owners, and the grill.

Great hosts! Great location.
The cabin was exactly as described in the listing. Carol was a spectacular host and very helpful. She did her best to help us get around on the island and took care of any issue we had.
The location is perfect right in the middle of town and less than a minute walk to the grocery, the bakery and the whiskey point brewery. You can't ask for a better stay.

FIrst time on Beaver Island
For our needs, traveling with young kids - this was the perfect place for us. Thank you so much for providing a great spot.
*These did not affect our stay, but you may want to look at the dining room and living room outlets that don't work.

Our Beaver Island Family getaway
Our family enjoyed our stay at Carol and Dan Burton's rental the "Freesoil house"
Was very clean and had everything we needed. Was nice and close to everything in town. We would stay again!

Cute place for a quiet visit
Great for a couple or two, or a small family. Quiet and peaceful.
We enjoyed the stay. If you bring a full-to-capacity group of adults, you’ll probably feel crowded. But, if you’re a couple or small family, you’ll have a great time! Comfortable quiet sleeping, a place to cook breakfast, everything you need!

Long Weekend on the Island
We had a wonderful first visit to Beaver Island and our stay at the Freesoil Blue House made it comfortable and easy. Carol and Dan were very accommodating and helpful.
With a short walk to the grocery store and a well equipped kitchen, cooking in was an easy option. Not to say that there wasn't ample options for eating out either a walk or short bike ride away.
We are definitely looking forward to our next visit.

Clean, comfortable, and convenient!
We had a very nice stay at this house. It was for just one night and worked out perfectly. It is very clean and comfortable and in a good location with an awesome host! It was an easy walk to the Shamrock for dinner and Dalwhinnie's Bakery and Deli is right across the street for breakfast. Since it was a quick trip, we didn't use the kitchen or deck, but it's great to have them available. Would definitely stay there again.

Cozy home base
We spent 4 nights at the blue house. Our host was very responsive to everything we needed, and made us feel welcome. A great place to come home to after a day exploring the island and its beaches. The location is within walking distance to everything in St. James.
