Quiet place. Not much to do around Shuzenji. Came for a 3-day quiet time and it was passable. But for tourists, recommended stay is a night. Around the time I was there, not many others booked this place, which made it quieter. They provided a map of nearby eateries which is nice.
More explanation regarding etiquette of using onsen would be good as we are foreigners. Unsure what is acceptable to do and what isn't.

Very spacious room and only few of them, so it feels like you have the entire ryokan to yourself! Definitely beautiful location.
There’s only one western toilet and one Japanese style toilet for the entire property, which does not feel it’s enough. Onsen is cute, a bit tiny, but it’s okay.

It’s a nice taste for traditional hotels, the onsen was small but comfortable. The place doesn’t get too much people in, so in my case I had the whole place to myself basically which made the experience a little lonely. Sadly I didn’t try the breakfast they provide, but from the reviews of the small restaurant connected I’m sure it would taste nice.
Nothing wrong with the property, mostly just the area of Shuzenji, which just doesn’t have too much to do. Small sight seeing areas, a cute little town with nice people who own small restaurants and stores, lots of older houses in the area as well. But that’s the extent of Shuzenji. So if you plan to visit, I wouldn’t recommend too many nights there, as there isn’t a lot to do there. This is all on the outlook of a tourist.

バルコニーに面したお部屋が三部屋あるのでご予約の際には希望してみるとよいと思います。
宿は古いですが大変清潔にされており、必要十分なアメニティもそろっています。

The staff were incredibly friendly and were extremely kind in letting my cycling friends and I park our bikes in a safe place overnight. My room was on the second floor so I had access to the balcony/veranda overlooking the river. I was able to enjoy a nice cold drink overlooking the river after a nice hot bath and had my breakfast there in the morning. Luxurious moments!
For those who do not like a shared toilet this might be a disadvantage but for the price and quality of room and service this is not really a negative. Nothing was problematic as wifi service, refrigerator, among other amenities made up for shared bathroom.

Took a taxi (about 1300 JPY) to go as I didn't know what bus to take. Took a bus back to the train station when departing after I was shown where the bus stop is.
Staff cooked a sumptious meal for breakfast. If you finish all the food, you wouldn't need lunch!
The ryokan is just by the bamboo forrest/garden and you can hear the river flow, especially at night.
Room is spacious and airy + air-con. You have to set up your own beddings on the floor in the room.
There are many good food places nearby. It's a good choice for a weekend stay if you are visiting Shuzenji.
There is no shower place (common/private), only an small onsen with a wash area. As it is July, I find it too hot for onsen.
The WC is small but ok for me. Bigger/taller person might find the space tight.

top location, shared balcony above the river was beautiful, tatami room an authentic experience, breakfast was delicious
onsen very small, too hot, no kaiseki option, futon not comfortable, aircon too strong, reception personal not always available and took time even when ringing bell

Accommodation on the waterfront can lie down with the sound of flowing water, feel relaxed,
There is no bathroom in the room. Shared bathrooms are required. Not far from the room and clean.
The breakfast is a good Japanese style. There is parking in front of the property.
Very good location, can walk around the old city.
The mattress is a Japanese futon, comfortable to sleep on.
The staff can't speak English. difficult to communicate
The shower room operates on a schedule.

very cozy hotel right next to the river! The breakfast is always very nice!
Arrived around 20 at Shuzenji St, but there was no bus to the hotel area..

Very nice location close to everything. Beautiful view and balcony.
The futon was to thin. It was very I uncomfortable. I slept on futon in other Ryokans, but never experienced futon that thin. As a result, I had a bad sore neck and back problems for few days. Also, there is no coffee for breakfast.

Hotel doesn’t set the Japanese bedding (futon). This never happened in other traditional Japanese hotels and it was not mentioned in the description of the hotel.

We were welcomed by an incredible host who really puts a lot of time and care into the accommodation and its guests. Our host provided yukata, a traditional tea set and comfortable futon.
The Ryokan is a comfortable size, particularly for the bedroom. It is nice to sleep to the soft sound and views of the nearby river too. The onsen is private and open until late into the night. If you are not familiar with Onsen, you might find it too hot, but it is great to try, and there are showers and good bathroom facilities too.
The area is very rural but surprisingly caters well to tourists (both Japanese and Western). There are lots of small things to discover in the area which give you an insight into Izu's calm lifestyle, including Shizuoka Shrine, the Bamboo Forest, and outdoor hot spring footbaths. You may benefit even more if you travel by car, but there is a bus terminal close by and so it is easy to travel the area via bus, train, or even on foot!
The toilets might feel a little small at first, but there is a traditional style and Western style which are both looked after well.

The lodging is located right at the heart of the sightseeing locations in Shuzenji within walking distances to the key locations. The room was spacious complete with TV and fridge in the room for a comfortable stay. The breakfast was served in an arranged tray for you to eat in. The view outside at the right season would be superb.
The onsen was smaller than expected but it was enough for around 4 people to go inside.
A simple guide to the surrounding spots around the area would be good.

The guesthouse is very near to Shuzenji temple and bamboo path. The balcony is facing the river. Very nice view.
A little far to convenient store.

I really love Ryokans and Onsen, so being supplied with both options at once felt like a dream come true.. I had to get used to the Onsen at first though, for it was my first time. The rooms are rather cold at night, but after figuring out the air conditioning I was totally fine. The Futon is on the rather hard side when it is about bedding.. but I still slept really well and having the Katsura River near, singing me a Lullaby I slept through the night like a stone. What I enjoyed most though, was the exceptionally delicious traditional breakfast.. I was offered grilled fish, Miso Soup, Rice.. some pickled / dried fruits and a small plate with a rather western oriented dish made of Potato Salad, a mirrored egg and sausage (which I unfortunately couldn’t eat, because I am a pescetarian) .. it was my highlight of the day !
