Staff was excellent, loved the location and accomodations.

Very close to many things to do in Duluth, but secluded enough to be nice and quiet.
The property was just fine.

Everything. Staff was nice and I felt at home.
The only thing was the bunk beds it was hard for me to get up and down.

$116/night was the lowest price I could find in Duluth for Sat night
Was absolutely shocked that all it consisted of was an old creaky building with a big room upstairs that had little wooden compartments (upper & lower areas with only a double bed & a curtain to somewhat conceal yourself). You couldn’t even use your phone or have a verbal conversation in there cuz there were signs all over saying QUIET TIME at 10pm. Mattress was uncomfortable & I was cold cuz all they gave you was sheets & a thin blanket with holes in it. And only TWO bathrooms for 20+ guests to share. Also lots of weird “hippie”-type decorations. Nope…won’t ever be staying there again!

Very clean. Wooden bed frames, so there is no noise when people go up and down. Staff was cool.
It's expensive. It is at least twice the price of a typical hostel, and one could almost stay in a hotel room for the same price. That said, it was a very nice hostel, so I think the price was at least somewhat warranted.

Good location. Stylish and clean. Opportunity to meet others. Comfortable beds.
Top bunk difficult to get into. Lockers near beds means you must be quiet if going to bed late or waking up early. Price is way to high for what you are getting. (Hotel price for a bunk bed? Please.)

For me it was a nostalgia stay. I last stayed in a Hostel in 1987. It was too bad my former mates weren't there. I would like to stay again with a group of friends and be able to hang out and enjoy the area more.
I was very rushed and could not have the whole Hostel experience of meeting people and hearing their stories. Next time I would book more than one night.

When locals in Duluth asked where I stayed and I shared Hostel du Nord, EVERY single person (3 women, 1 man) told me the same thing: the owner, Robert "Bob" Hugh Monahan (DOB 7/29/78), is a creep and can be "weird and inappropriate with women." They went on to say that there are have been no charges or convictions (confirmed via Minnesota Trial Court Public Access), but apparently his personal misconduct is a widely known open secret along with his other businesses marred with rumors of illegal dealings. I did not like learning any of these allegations and regret staying at Hostel du Nord for this very reason. Regarding the physical space of Hostel du Nord, the entrance to the hostel wasn't lit and a bit difficult to find. No staff were present to greet me when I arrived around 2AM. I parked behind the building assuming the lot belonged to Hostel du Nord, however, that lot isn't reserved for Hostel du Nord guests, nor did I see any signs confirming. After reaching the bunk number I was given via text, another sleeping person was occupying the space. I texted a staff member (Preston) and he appeared and informed me he set up a space for me on the other side of the floor. That bunk had a light fixture but no bulb and the thin blanket did little to help me stay warm. I left at first light.

The coffee was excellent.
I’m arthritic. The ladder to the upper bunk ends at the bed frame at the bottom of the mattress. Getting down in the morning without falling was scary.

Location and amenities were great. Used the sauna and chilled out back on the patio thing. Everything was clean and staff was pretty good.
