About this villa rental
2021 Update: Due to last summer's heatwave in Greece we now offer air conditioning in all bedrooms. If you are looking for somewhere away from crowds this is perfect. We can even organize food deliveries!
Although we pride ourselves on offering an immaculately clean house we are now taking extra measures:
- Contactless greeting, meaning the key will be in the door!
- Hand soap and hand sanitizer provided
- All towels and linen washed at high temperature
- All surfaces properly disinfected
- Proper use of chlorine in the pool (making it totally safe)
This is a beautiful villa that combines comfort with elegance and makes the most of its location: set into the side of a hill with a path through its own wooded gardens running down to a pretty pebble beach below. The 3 and a half acre (14 hectare) plot is extremely rare because it was planted forty years ago with every local species of plant imaginable. There are olives galore, a lemon grove, orange, fig, pomegranate, grapes and the full range of wild herbs. Feel free to help yourself! In the spring the wildflowers are breathtaking, we even have some rare orchids. From the house at the top of this valley there is no better view in the Peloponnese. Even the sun sets in precisely the right spot. The bay is perfect for both children and strong swimmers and, apart from August, you may well have the whole beach to yourselves. The building of Villa Artemis is told entertainingly in the best-selling book 'Blue Skies and Black Olives' by the broadcaster John Humphrys and his son Christopher. Although we limit the villa to 14 people we have an arrangement with the excellent apartments in the next bay that can sleep another 20 people. Get in touch if you are a larger group!
Christopher, the owners' son, is British but lives in Greece. Although based in Athens, he often stays in the small cottage at the bottom of the property. He is happy to give advice on the local area, point out the best places to eat and generally make sure that your holiday is as enjoyable as possible. A fluent Greek speaker, he is always available on the phone to deal with any problems or questions.

A breathtakingly beautiful location with superb spacious accommodation and welcoming, but not intrusive host. Be prepared to tackle an unmade road down to the property, but the destination is worth every bump! The air-conditioning was especially welcome.

The photos really don't do this property justice. It was beautiful. From the minute we arrived we loved every minute. Our family ranged from 16 year olds to 80 year olds and we all found the villa perfect. The air conditioned rooms are a welcome relief from the heat and the gorgeous pool was amazing to come back to each time after exploring the area. Would highly recommend and hopefully we will be back to visit very soon.

Beautifully positioned in private grounds and with the most spectacular views over the sea from property, pool and gardens. The house was light, spacious and well provisioned - comfortable without being pretentious. It was well positioned to stay local and low key but with easy access to livelier places eg Poros. Access is via a steep and stony drive so bring a suitable car. The owner gave fabulous directions and information and couldn't do enough for us.

The property was exactly what we hoped for. Clean, spacious, great location, fantastic views and much more. Christopher's directions from Athens airport were spot-on. His recommendations on where to dine and shop were very good. We quickly made friends with Tassos - a local store and restaurant owner. Had a fantastic final-night dinner at his beach-side bar.
We were 4x couples and did a lot of cycling and exploring in the surrounding area - plenty to see and do. However, it was very nice to return to this house every day.
The only little weird thing for for us was the hand-showers in all the bathrooms, but I guess it is the way it works over there.
Overall, I think it was very good value. Did I mention the views...

The setting of this house is fabulous. The views are wonderful and make you happy. The pool is a great relief during hot days. Near by is a beach with sunbeds and a taverna. Tassos store/cafe is a treasure. He made dinner for us every night. We would pick it up at 6:00 and take it back to the house. There is no ac which can be a problem. Also the driveway is not for the faint of heart. The thought of going up and down at night was off putting, thus having Tassos cook. Near by are wonderful sites to see, Poros, Naphilion. Hydra, Edidavros, Mycenaean ruins, Vathi, Galatas etc. Everyone we ment were lovely and very helpful. Great vacation

We had a fabulous holiday in a wonderful house. I think we may have been early visitors as the path down to the beach was well hidden but worth the scramble. The beach was beautiful although we spent a lot of time picking up washed up plastic - a real problem and so sad as we are the culprits.......
Much time was spent in the beach bar in the next bay - lovely, welcoming, quiet.
It's a truly special place with so much to see (epidavros is a must) and do. We went to a gorgeous restaurant a couple of times in Vathi - on the beach rather than in the harbour, blue and white with a pier into the sea - sorry can't remember the name -great food and so helpful. Had delicious food delivered to the door as well, so all in all what's not to like?
Thank you Christopher for a memorable stay.

For a family group of 6 adults and 4 young children Villa Artemis was outstanding. We had complete privacy and quiet; the pool was perfect; there was room for all us; and all the adults appreciate the many outside areas to sit and relax in.
In addition to the Villa being just what we wanted, the owner, Christopher, was more than normally communicative and helpful. Definitively a five star place and owner.

We loved the position of the comfortable house. We never tired of the wide open views of the sea, the sky and the mountains, or of swimming in the warm, calm sea from the deserted beach below. We ate every meal outside. The area is very unspoilt, and the Methana Peninsula has a wild quality to it. As well as swimming we enjoyed visiting nearby ancient sites, walking, shopping in Galatas and Poros and eating fish in the local tavernas. The owner could not have been more helpful and the home-cooked Greek food, delivered to the door, was delicious.

This is a lovely house in a beautiful location; comfortable, friendly, well kitted out. Warmly recommended.

we were 2 couples and 3 young adults.we had a grate week ! the house was big enough , the view is unbelievable, the sea shore is very near by (4 minuets walk) ,the swimming pool is beautiful, and the location is perfect- we enjoyed Poros 15 min drive, Methana - 20, Epidavros 30 and more.
all of us stayed in the big house we did not use the lower independent unit. (which is less attractive by means of view and ambiance).
disadvantages:
very week and unstable INTERNET service
few things in the house could use some maintenance .
Christopher was very available responsive and helpfull.

The most defining feature of this lovely house is the extraordinary views over Saronic Gulf. You can watch the sunset from the terrace or bedroom balconies, (glass of wine optional) and at night even spot the lights of the Epidavros ancient theatre across the bay. House very spacious - teens were put in the downstairs section. The trip from the airport itself was straightforward apart from the last turn to Metamorfosi which is easy to miss in the dark, and the drive itself is pretty steep and rocky, fine once you're used to it, but make sure you rent cars with reasonable clearance - we made all the passengers get out at the top of the hill.We loved the walk down to the beach through the gardens of olive and lemon trees and are sure that the climb back up did us good! Pool fab as it is cool after the climb back up from the beach and large enough to swim in. The beach itself has crystal clear water, fairly shallow right out to a reef where we all snorkelled, beyond which there was deeper sea so perfect for children and the more adventurous swimmers. Amazingly there was hardly anyone on the beach even in mid August - apart from the odd fisherman, so it felt like our own private beach. The beach taverna - good for local beer, ice-cream and nibbles - is a short walk just the next bay around, apart from this you have to drive to shops and restaurants. Local shop is about a 10 minute drive away - was very friendly with great feta and the basics.Galatas and pretty Poros are a short drive away with a good supermarket and excellent butcher and lots of tavernas. We also visited Vathi for fish tavernas and the fantastic views from the volcano (definitely worth the walk), Epidavros, Napflio, Mycenae, the island of Hydra (a must do) and even ancient Corinth on way back to airport, an easy diversion.

We had a beautiful stay in this unique house-- a magical walk through the olive grove down to the water, delicious local food delivered for dinner, and the perfect jumping off place to explore Poros, Hydra, and countless other places. Our week was unseasonably hot-- no fault of the hosts!-- but we enjoyed the beach and sightseeing during the day. I would stay there again in a heartbeat, especially during a slightly cooler time. Thanks for everything!
