About this villa rental
CASA RAMALHETE is a three-bedroom linked villa within the Porta do Paraiso complex, a collection of eleven townhouses and two apartments with shared pool, children’s paddling pool and gardens.
As you enter the villa, you enter the hallway with combined living/dining area straight ahead. Also in the hall is a small downstairs cloakroom with toilet and basin.
Twin sliding patio doors lead to the villa’s large sun terrace, with luxury outdoor furniture for alfresco dining, a barbecue and sun loungers to soak up the sun. Stairs lead down to the pool terrace shared with the other villas and there are sun loungers for all condominium guests to use around the pool. Guests are asked to use the pool-side shower to rinse off sun lotion before entering the pools.
The kitchen is fully equipped, all you need to do is stock up with food (some cleaning products will be left in the cupboard under the kitchen sink). It contains a gas/electric cooker, integrated fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, and a gas combi-boiler for instant hot water. Table and chairs are available for more informal meals.
There is also a walk-in pantry providing plenty of storage space including a cupboard for all the cleaning equipment - vacuum cleaner, brush and pan – and includes an iron and ironing board, a separate drinks fridge for water and any other drinks, plus a large stock of crockery and cooking equipment.
The living room has a reverse air conditioning, which cools in the hot months as well as warming in the cooler months. There is also a gas fire for use during the winter months. 5G Wi-Fi is available via the MEO Hub in the living room which provides TV channels in Portuguese and English via the internet. Guests can log into their own Amazon Prime or Netflix channels on the Smart TV. A Wi-Fi extender is plugged into a socket in one of the bedrooms.
Upstairs, there are three good-sized bedrooms each with reversible warm/cool air conditioning. All the bedrooms have the flexibility to be either a Super King size bed or two twin beds by zipping together the 2x90 cm beds. They each have two bedside tables with reading lamps on each table.
All the bedrooms have fitted wardrobes with plenty of hangers, dressing table plus large mirror, bedside tables and lamps. In each room are plenty sockets for hairdryers, charging mobile phones, etc.
Bedroom 1 has a small balcony to sit out which overlooks the pool and sun terrace, and has a view of the sea as well as the landscape.
Bedroom 2 has a Juliette balcony also overlooking the pool and sun terrace. There is an en-suite walk-in shower, toilet, vanity unit and bidet plus towel radiator. This room also has a digital safe to secure valuables.
Bedroom 3 has a Juliette balcony overlooking the front of the villa.
There is a family bathroom with bath and shower over, vanity unit, toilet and bidet, towel radiator and wall heater.
On the sun terrace there is a storage box with a variety of items: umbrellas to use around the pool, as well as other equipment for beach use such as boogie boards, kids buckets and spades, etc.
Getting to Praia da Luz
There are many car hire companies to choose from both on and off airport. Private hire companies are available to book for airport pick-ups and drop-offs - please ask for a recommendation. The journey time from Faro Airport is approximately one hour.
About Praia da Luz
Praia da Luz is an ideal holiday destination; the charming and picturesque streets of the old village are a delight. It is a 10-minute walk along cobbled streets to the old village centre, restaurants, bars and cafés. The Portuguese love their bica - small cups of strong coffee. You will find several cafés down near the beach and there are a couple along the main street on Rua Direita.
The full name of Praia da Luz “Praia de Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Luz” (‘Beach of the Church of our Lady of Light’) – far too much for a tourist (and many locals) – is a lovely sandy beach in the shape of a bay and is perfect for sun-bathing with the coveted ‘European blue flag’ indicating clean sand and clean water. The water sports operator on the beach displays rental/hire charges clearly.
Like many beach areas in Portugal, business is seasonal in Praia da Luz. All the restaurants and bars run their own timetables as to when they change opening and closing times. From November through to March some places may close completely or have drastically reduced opening days and/or hours. My favourite restaurants in Luz are Latitude Wine & Tapas Bar, Fluido's, Restaurant Ondaluz, Boaty's Tapas Café, The Dolphin, Chicca’s Restaurant and Fortaleza. During the busy season it is strongly advised to book a table for a dinner reservation, particularly larger groups. Fluido’s and Ondaluz are less than 5 minutes from the villa, as is a lovely little bar called Ollie’s.
Luz has two main supermarkets: Spar and Baptista are open 7 days a week (Baptista is closed Sun afternoon) and there are more smaller groceries stores around the village. There are several larger supermarkets in Lagos, a 10-minute car journey away: Continente, Intermarché, Pingo Doce, Lidl and Aldi.
Places of interest in and around Luz might be a visit the historic Fortress (the Fortaleza) which dates from 1670. Today, it has been fully restored and operates as a premier restaurant offering traditional Portuguese classics with an international bias, in what is unquestionably the village’s most spectacular setting for drinks at sundown. Also, a must-see is the Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, (the Church-Shrine of ‘Our Lady of Light’) which was originally built around 1575, and recently fully restored and painted. Remember to view the inside and see the spectacular golden gilt altar.
For guests who enjoy walking, following routes along the coastal path (Fishermen’s Trail) is popular with locals and tourists alike - in Spring it is easy to spot the many wildflowers growing beside the paths. Heading west you can walk the whole way to Burgau; heading east you can walk into Lagos (by climbing up the steep hill above Luz beach) which brings you to the long beach of Porto do Mós. From there you can catch a bus or a taxi into Lagos, or, walk back to Praia da Luz after an ice-cream from one of the cafés on the beach. It is strongly advised to carry water when walking along the coast, even on cooler days.
Lagos, the biggest town in the Western Algarve.
Lagos also has many restaurants and overall, they are cheaper than Luz. A few I can recommend are Campimar in Porto do Mós, Restaurant Onda Norte, Tasca do Kiko near the Marina, Quay in the Marina. There are many restaurants and bars in the centre of Lagos - too many to mention.
If you are driving into Lagos there is an underground car park located on the Avenida dos Descobrimentos which is quite central for walking around the town. Two fish restaurants that I can recommend on the Avenida are Adega de Marina (located opposite the bridge to the Marina) and closer to the centre is the Mare restaurant located above the Fish Market The fish market is worth a visit in the mornings. There are also several restaurants located along the Meia Praia which serve both fresh fish and meat.
Golf Breaks in the Algarve
When it comes to the perfect mix of great weather, grand scenery and golf courses, the Algarve is an excellent location for golf breaks. Early morning golf is recommended in the region during the summer months. The villa is ideally situated near four excellent golf courses: Boavista, Palmares, Penina and Espiche. Before visiting, it is best to contact the courses direct to be book tee-times and to check the dress-codes etc.
Floresta Parque is located out towards Sagres near Budens and is a challenging course, sometimes described as taxing.
All the courses provide a complete hire service and can be booked online.
Keyless Entry to the Villa
There is a key-safe on the front door for contactless entry, so you can arrive and depart at your leisure. Details on how to use this will be sent with final arrangements.

Absolutely fantastic property, excellent facilities, wanted for nothing. The Villa was spotless and well equipped and maintained. Fiona who owners the property is lovely and very helpful. Lots of communication before and during our stay to ensure all ok. I couldn’t recommend this villa more. Lovely area also and beach which is gorgeous just a short walk down the lane.

The photos do not do this villa justice. It is just lovely, the terrace is huge and the two pools are literally down a flight of steps leading from the terrace (20 seconds away!)
The walk to the beach and restaurants bars is about 7 minutues (downhill) a little longer on walk back (uphill!)
What was really pleasing for us, as I hadn't realised, there are about 4 restaurants within a 2 minute walk (one is 30 seconds) and a cute little bar literally next door to the complex.
The villa is immaculate (the cleanest we've ever stayed in), there are lots of utensils in the kitchen - separate steak knives which was very pleasing as we stayed in on the last night and had steak!
There is an immaculate downstairs toilet, always handy. A large family bathroom and one of the bedrooms has a large ensuite. The showers were strong and hot water always available.
The one tiny issue we had of not having a bath towel for my dad was sorted in one message in 10 seconds flat!
The kids (14 and 17) loved having the huge pool and plenty of free sun loungers... plus being able to walk to beach in no time.
Neighbours on the complex were all very friendly and a nice family feel.
Thank you Fiona for a lovely stay.

The spacious 3 bedroom condominium was perfect for grandparents, young parents, & a toddler. Each bedroom had an individual air conditioning unit. While home alone, we grandparents enjoyed the cross currents of the ocean breeze. The large terrace was a very safe place for a toddler to play while adults enjoyed the sun, breeze, & spectacular view. The residence was well furnished & stocked for a very comfortable 2 week stay. We enjoyed the location as we were able walk almost the whole town with the beach, restaurants, & grocery stores very close. September weather was summery during the day, breezy & cooler in the evening. Definitely a 5 star experience!

Absolutely loved this villa and what a fantastic location too. Where to start? It's so big! Plenty of space for all of us ( family of four with teens). Everything was catered for. All the little touches that you'd have at home, Fiona has thought about it and catered for it so you really are in a home away from home. Fiona's pre arrival email is the most detailed and comprehensiveI've ever received so you know you're being looked after. Beautiful outdoor area too and the communal pool is bigger than you think. The neighbours ( mostly other owners) are lovely and friendly so we felt really welcomed. We'll have no hesitation in coming back again. Thank you Fiona 😊

This property was absolutely perfect for my family to stay at. It was super clean, spacious, with easy free, parking, and the pool and view from the dining deck was fantastic. It was only a short six minute walk to the beach, which was a great beach for families. The area (Luz) is about 10 minutes from downtown Lagos, but we preferred it way more than the busyness and much more touristy area of Lagos. Situated in a more quaint beach town that had everything close by including a supermarket (6 min walk to Baptista) great restaurants (NahNahBah was one of our faves), and cool bars (check out Ollie’s!) in my opinion it is a better place to stay than the more congested area of Lagos. We loved every part of our stay and can’t wait to return!

The apartment was really easy to find and Fiona’s instructions before we went were perfect.
The apartment was lovely, spacious and ideally located for the beach, shops and restaurants. The bus stop is just the opposite side of the road and only 1.60 euro each to get to Lagos, taxis were also really good value back from Lagos (13-15 euros for 6 people).

The villa is clean, spacious and commodious. It has everything and then some: the little things like having salt, pepper and salt in the pantry and the big thing like clean, comfortable beds and bathrooms, even convenient parking. After staying at hotels for the rest of our travels through Europe, this was a great place to spread out and enjoy the wonderful town of Luz. The friendly neighbors in the villa complex just added to the great experience of staying here.
We highly recommend staying here in Fiona’s Villa C.

Great location and beautiful property!

Took over an hour to locate after we arrived in Luz. We drove and drove to no avail. The woman in the property rental office next door had no idea how to locate. Just by chance we asked a lady entering her unit, and she showed us where the lockbox was located. The unit “C” on the door is painted the same color as the door, so it is basically invisible. A more accurate location would be “ directly across from the former Mirage restaurant”
Regarding the pool…….according to other residents it has been under repair for some time, and it appeared it will be some time before it will be available for use. Very disappointed that VRBO would allow this listing to still offer a pool under amenities.

We loved it! Close to everything. Nice small complex with a pool that wasn't too busy. Nice view over water and the hill on the west side of Luz. We stayed here with two teens who were happy to have their own rooms, but the unit would be great for a family with up to 4 kids. A 7-10 minute walk to the beach. 10-minute walk to the grocery stores. The bus to and from Lagos stops right in front of the complex and there is some traffic noise on the streetside of the complex, but this was only a minor disturbance.

Our stay was just the best we could have. From the beginning Fiona made sure to answer every question ans satisfy all our requests. Communication was always quick and clear. The place was just amazing, incredibly clean and just as advertised. We were so glad to see handouts and infos on what to see and where to eat around Luz. We couldn't have had a better host and I for sure will come back again!

Perfect Location
Luz was the perfect location for a relaxing beach holiday and this was located within easy walking distance of everything we needed. An easy walk to the beach, great restaurants, shopping. The unit was really well stocked with essentials, super clean when we arrived and well organized so that it was easy to settle in and get comfortable. We spent most days at the beach but it was really nice to come back and relax and cool off by the pool at the end of the day and have dinner on the large patio. We loved it here and had a hard time leaving!

Wonderful villa and location
We had a wonderful week in Fiona’s villa. The location was great, 10 minute walk to the beach and short walks to the shops and restaurants. The villa was perfect- clean and comfortable, everything you need. We loved the patio area with the BBQ and sun loungers. Beds were comfortable and spacious. The pool area was quiet every day, only a few other family’s around. The bus stop for Lagos was just outside and very cheap to get to Lagos and the larger supermarkets.
Communication with Fiona was great, no problems with check in or out.
Would definitely like to stay again, a week was just too short. Thank you Fiona

We had a great stay Lagos. The condo was clean and tidy. The beds were comfortable. We especially liked the location. We walked every where. There is a bar, restaurant and coffee shop all within the block. The beach is just down the hill. We would definitely stay here again.

Great property
This is a really well equipped house for a family holiday, the owner has thought of everything and it was spotless! The outside terrace is lovely and the whole property well furnished. We booked a cot and high chair which weren't in the house when we arrived but a quick call to the property manager and they soon appeared! Only disappointment for us was that the bbq is not gas as the photo shows. Only downside was the pool not being heated and it was cold! I'm sure later on in the season it would have warmed up. All in all a lovely property and well placed to walk everywhere in Luz. Would stay here again.

Two family hol in Praia Da Luz
We had a fantastic stay as two families with a one year old each. The property is beautiful with everything plus more. The small complex was pretty much deserted for our stay allowing us some nice quiet time around the pool. The property is a nice 10 min walk to the each front where there is just enough to occupy you and young family. It is only a convenient 15 min bus ride to Lagos if you want a much wider choice of restaurants and sights. Fiona was really helpful before and throughout the holiday and we cannot rate this property and holiday high enough

I have been holidaying in Luz for the past 10 years and this was the best equipped villas I have stayed in. It was like home from home. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything you would need. It is well located and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. I would have no hesitation in booking here again.
