You'll need a car to get around while you are here. Holualoa Village is only minutes away, it is about 15 minutes to Kailua-Kona town. Many adventures await you during your time here on the Big Island. Some of our favorite beaches are magic Sands (15 minutes away), Honls, Kamakahonu Bay(in front of the Marriott King Kamehameha Hotel), Kekahakai STte Park (Mahaiula's), Kua Bay (Maniniowale Bay), Hapuna Beach to name a few. Snorkeling at Kahalu'u Beach, Kealakekua Bay and Honaunau Bay. Deep sea fishing, diving and night charters start from Honokohau Harbor. Scenic Valleys in Kohala and along the Hamakua Coast. Waterfalls on the East side of the island.A day trip south takes you to Punaluu Black Sands Beach, the cliffs off South Point and Green Sands Beach (Mahana Bay). Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa are accessible for those seeking seasonal Hawaiian snow or a glimps of the stars. So many adventure, too little time to truly enjoy all our island has to offer.

Nice place.

We booked this as a 1 night stay for our trip home out of Kona. It’s clean/comfy and has a nice little lanai where we enjoyed a cold drink as the sunset over the ocean on our last night in Hawaii. It’s a perfect spot for a couple with room for a +1 if needed.

We absolutely loved our stay at the charming Holualoa country home. The lanai boasts a stunning view of the ocean and sunset. While downtown Kona was sweltering in the heat, it was nice and cool on the mountain. I miss hearing the coqui frogs at night! The hosts leave lots of beach gear for your use - beach chairs, an umbrella, a boogie board, snorkels, a cooler, beach towels, etc., which is incredibly nice for those of us who fly in! I would not recommend a low-setting car for the drive up the mountain, though. You'll bottom out on some of the potholes.

I knew I wanted to be away from the Kona area and have always loved the Holualoa laid back vibe. Great view from the lanai as I worked on my newsletter. Enjoyed the sunsets tremendously. No need for airconditioning as a leaving the windows slightly open works really well and if it get warmer or if you are warm from having been on a hike the ceiling fan at low speed in both the living room and bedroom work great. We had everything we could need and really enjoyed the coqui frogs serenading us as we went to bed. There is wonderful breakfast and coffee close by without having to go into Kona. It was loads of fun driving through the upper back roads - curvy and so lush and green. Kona has gotten ridiculous in collecting expensive parking fees especially close to the cruise terminal and so will only head to businesses that have free parking which is further away from the cruise terminal. Will stay again when are back on the west coast of the Big Island. Thank you very much for a lovely stay.

BAD: The toaster did not work very well. The dish rack was rusted. The shower mat was gross. The bathroom floor needed to be cleaned. There were some ants in the microwave stand. I re-cleaned the shower as it was not to my standards, but it was not overly bad. I was glad there were cleaning products underneath the sink. The hill to drive up was a bit of a climb. Better signage for the house would be good. GOOD: The view was awesome. The grounds were great. The bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. The water pressure was good as well as the drain in the shower (I hate standing water). Lots of little treats (snacks n coffee). Overall I would recommend but if you are picky it might not be for you.

Perfect for the two of us, this cottage (a diplex with a garage between the untis) is in the coffee countryside above Kailua Kona. Had everything we needed for our stay. Owner was terrific and even helped us when we had two flight cancellations for our return home. TBH, the first time you do the steep driveway you may think “ are you kidding me?” But after that first up and down you are a pro. Would stay there again!

The house on a hillside, with a gorgeous view of the ocean, framed by trees and grass with a lush border. Birds of many sorts flew past, including an occasional flock of parrots.

My mom passed a little over a month ago and we had all this planning to do for her celebration of life on top of dealing with the grief. I was invited to a birthday party on the 2nd and I thought it would give me a chance to take a break. And it was perfect! The place was located in the hills where it was nice and cool and peaceful! I was able to breathe and rest. An added bonus was the Ohia trees that lined the drive. It is my favorite tree.

We hated to leave, it’s a “peace” of heaven on Earth.

This rental was well maintained and very clean. The bed was excellent which we truly appreciated as had just flown in from the mainland. We also appreciated the coffee and creamer provided as we hadn't had time to get supplies yet. The kitchen was well supplied also and even had a cutting board which many rentals forget about. The one thing lacking was a small table of some kind to eat a meal. so we used the coffee table.
Our only real struggle was finding the rental. Our Google map was totally baffled by the area and took us in the entirely wrong direction several times. We finally tried asking for it to send us to the elementary school and there we could find Duarte Rd. It is a lot further up the hill too than we guessed and we stopped once to ask directions. It might be helpful to include the mileage from the bottom of the hill to the house as an added assist.
We had a nice bonus of seeing 2 stunning sunsets from the small deck.

We loved staying at this property for so many reasons. The location is very quiet, with an amazing view of the ocean. It's located in a quiet rural area, and we were visited by occasional goats, heard chickens calling in the distance, and saw many beautiful birds. And the property itself was welcoming, clean, comfortable, and everything we needed (including beach supplies to borrow for the day--beach umbrella, boogie boards, etc., washer and dryer for wet towels). Lori was an excellent and welcoming host. We loved it and would be delighted to stay again!

We liked the place and we enjoyed meeting the caretakers who were delightful and full of good info about the island. We liked the idea that we were on a farm and a bit removed from the tourist area :)

Owners were super friendly and accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay and the view and wildlife in the morning was great.

The place is peaceful and quiet, and the cooler temperatures make for good sleeping. The frogs do chirp, but not all night. As other reviewers have said, the road is a bit gnarly, but we had a car and made it just fine. It's only a ten minute drive to town, so you're still close to all the fun. Lori is awesome and responsive. She has obviously put a lot of thought into making this place a home away from home. We loved all of the little details. Thank you so much!

My husband, daughter (12), and myself enjoyed our stay here!
Being greeted in the morning by the cows on the other side of the gate, and the coqui frogs singing to us at night. It was a good little spot for our first 4 nights on the island!
The only real downside is the proximity of the other unit. While we were there another group arrived for that unit and would come/go later in the evening than we did. Since it’s a shared gate the sound of them opening the chain and driving up was loud. They also had 4 vehicles (including a motorcycle) there at one point in what is a very small driveway, less than 5 ft from our unit’s bedroom window.
Minor inconveniences overall, but if you’re looking for privacy and quiet, this might need to be factored in.
The host was lovely to communicate with!

Great stay! Loved all of the amenities provided by the host. Just make sure you have a raised car as the driveway is difficult to go back and forth with a lowered car!

I really enjoyed my stay here. The place was very clean and the host was highly responsive when I accidentally locked myself out. The home itself is perfect for a solo traveler or a couple -- it's cozy, but has everything you need and is far superior to a hotel IMO. A very relaxing and serene place to get away from the hustle and bustle.

This was our first VRBO experience and we were very pleased with our stay. We really enjoyed the views, ocean breeze in the upper elevation, the sights and sounds of nature, the cleanliness of the home, and Lori’s excellent communication and hospitality. The country setting away from the hustle and bustle of the city was the perfect fit for our family. We would definitely return.

We Neede a one night stay close to the airport and found this place. It is so nice we regretted not to have booked more nights.
The highlight was to enjoy the sunset with a drink on the terrass.

First we had the chance to meet the owner Lori and what a great person. We had an issue with wi-fi and she went out of her way to fix it in no time.
Great quiet place, remote area, lots of vegetations, surrounded by animals such as horses and roosters. Great view of the ocean specially at night for the sunset.
Place is nice, fully equipped, inside and out for beach.
I would recommend this place without a doubt

Beautiful and Charming Country Home!
If you want to spend your vacation away from the touristy, crowded areas, you should stay here! You'll have a fantastic sunset view overlooking the ocean and plenty of peace and quiet (not counting the frogs and birds, of course). Lori is an excellent host! She truly "rolls out the welcome mat!" The house was very clean and well stocked for our stay. She also had coffee, Nutrigrain bars, and other snacks for your first morning there. Plus, she had fresh flowers on the coffee table for our arrival. It is a bit of a rough drive up to the house making you think you are lost but, it is 100% worth it once you arrive. We couldn't have asked for a better home away from home!
