About this house rental
After a day sight-seeing in Northern Tasmania or wine-touring the Tamar Valley, there is little better than relaxing on Beachside’s front porch and enjoying the view.
Overlooking kanamaluka / River Tamar and set in a lovely garden of native and heirloom plants, Beachside is a "perfectly imperfect" unique Arts & Crafts home; picturesque and ideally situated for a quiet getaway.
Built in 1950 and lovingly maintained as a comfortable home, the decor and furnishings are in keeping with that era, while gentle renovations provide modern appliances and conveniences in the kitchen and bathrooms.
The spacious galley kitchen is designed with the foodie in mind. You'll be "cooking with gas" on the stove, baking perfectly in the electric oven or wood firing pizzas in the wood-burning oven/stove.
Three living areas provide generous personal space for guests and 180 degree views of the deep water harbour just across the road.
The open-plan lounge has a large comfortable couch, Smart TV, DVD player, wood heater, and reverse-cycle air-conditioner (aka heat pump).
The sunroom has informal dining overlooking the river and fabulous 1960s armchairs for relaxing in with a glass of wine or a good book.
The formal dining boasts a rustic 8 seat teak dining table and high-backed chairs, and two comfortable armchairs for relaxing and sipping something delicious by the big open fireplace.
The 3 upstairs bedrooms are expansive, all with water views. Standard configuration is 3 beds (1xDB, 2x QB) for up to 6 people.
At Beachside, everything you need for a self-contained stay is provided: linen and towels; all kitchen utensils and appliances; wi-fi internet; general pantry items, and liquid soaps in the showers and by basins.
All you need to bring is clothes and food - for those nights where you don't get takeaway from the region's best fish & chippy which is two doors up, or wander to the pub for a delicious meal on the water.
ACTIVITIES
Beauty Point is an excellent place to relax and recharge, with all of the town's amenities and attractions a short walk or drive from Beachside's front door.
- Wine and dine the Tamar Valley Wine Route
- Learn about our natural environment at Seahorse World and Platypus House
- Discover history at the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre
- Take long walks along Bass Strait on the white expanse of Greens Beach
- Enjoy evening BBQs across the road on the river
- Fishing and boating from Beauty Point wharf
- All of the attractions of Launceston such as Cataract Gorge, QV Museum & Art Gallery, breweries and distilleries, Stillwater, Penny Royal and the West Tamar Wetlands
- Farmers and collectibles markets in Launceston, Exeter and Evandale
- Day trips to both the east and the west of northern Tasmania. Latrobe, Deloraine, Sheffield, Devonport, Georgetown & Low Head, Bridport are all lovely drives through farmland and forests.
DOG-FRIENDLY
Beachside is dog-friendly with 6ft barrier fencing enclosing the large, grassy backyard and a sizeable covered area just at the back door.
While it is preferred that dogs remain outside, well-behaved, low-shedding canine family members are permitted inside downstairs only if necessary, not on any furniture, and only where the floors are wood or tiles.
As I don't charge pet fees, guests must clean up after their dogs both inside and outside, as applicable, otherwise additional cleaning fees will be applied.
RATES
I use the VRBO / Stayz rates recommendations, so they fluctuate based on demand and the season.
The base rate of $160 per night is for two people sharing one bed. Additional people and/or beds are $30 p/n each.
Beachside is cleaned and laundry done by professionals between guests. Post-COVID cleaning protocols and inflation have increased these costs. Guest contribution to cleaning is $60 per stay.
PAYMENT
We use the VRBO / Stayz online payments system. VRBO charges a service fee and administers the Refundable Damage Deposit (bond) of $250 per stay. The RDD isn't charged upfront. Funds to cover any damages would only be deducted after your stay.

We were contacted during our stay to inform us of thunderstorms and to put buckets out for the leaking roof they had tried and failed to have fixed. We were then charged for water staining to their carpet and accused of leaving a window open. We were going out of our way checking the property for roof leaks so why would we leave a window open during this storm. Disappointed.

The host provided all the information required to check in and about features of the house. Great communication.
The house was clean and had everything we needed.
Very comfortable and cosy.
Perfectly located as a base to see the Launceston and the surrounding area.
The local bakery is a must visit as well as the fish and chip shop. Both within easy walking distance.
The seahorse world and platypus house are a short 10 minutes walk away.
Thank you Shan for a great house and a peaceful and relaxing stay.

Loved our stay!
Felt instantly relaxed and spent hours on the front porch watching the river change.
The location was perfect for exploring the region.
Fantastic communication from Shan, comprehensive and very helpful. Clean and well equipped.
You can tell when a holiday rental is a home and well loved. There’s an extra level of care taken to make it feel inviting and relaxing. We’ll be back for a winter holiday to light the fire and watch the river.

Beachside is a delight, such a lovely house with so much character. Our stay was comfortable and relaxing and we had everything we needed to enjoy our time there. The view across the water is amazing, the house is full of sunshine and there are so many birds and boats to watch, always something to see. And so quiet at night, we slept really well! Shan is a kind and generous host, and we feel so privileged to have been able to experience a stay in her beautiful house. Thank you Shan!

We had a wonderful week at Beachside. The house is full of charm and perfectly suited the needs of a family of four with two teenagers, and we even got to take our dog. The large downstairs area allowed us all to have a bit of space but still be together. There are plenty of spaces to read books, play board games, sit by the fire, look out over the water, or simply watch TV.
The house was lovely and warm, which was my main concern as we went in the middle of winter. The kitchen is well equipped and had everything we needed.
Shan is a great host and her communication is excellent. We took on board her recommendation to visit the Indian restaurant in Beaconsfield where we had a fabulous meal.
I would love to go back again in summer.

Beachside is an amazing place to stay. From booking to arriving and leaving the whole process was seamless. Shan the property manager was a wealth of information and incredibly accommodating. It was our first trip to Tasmania and where we didn't know what to do and where to go, Shan filled in all of the gaps for us, from boat trip to food shopping to touring everything you could think of was covered. The house was gorgeous set on the waterfront with the best views of Beauty Point in amongst the Tamar Valley, just gorgeous, the 50's decor which we fell in love with, very comfortable, spacious, clean and very much felt like a home away from home. We were sad to leave we loved our stay that much. We honestly couldn't speak highly enough of Beachside, Shan and the team that helps Shan keep the place in tip top condition. We toured Tasmania during the day and having Beachside of an evening to relax and unwind was just a dream I couldn't imagine. We will definitely be staying again in the future and if we could give 10 stars we would, this place is a must stay!!!!! Thank you again Shan and Team :)

If you are looking for a unique stay with million dollar views look no further! Honestly the photos do not do this property justice. The house is a grand old dame with wonderful character and charm while offering modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. There is adequate cooling and heating for a stay in any season to be an absolute pleasure. Relaxing on the front porch with a superb ice coffee from the cafe that is in walking distance, just watching the world go by was just what the doctor ordered. Our fur babies loved the massive, completely secure backyard and enjoyed playing chase with a couple of bunnies! Shan was a wonderful host, communication was fabulous and she has made sure that the property has everything you could possibly want or need for however long you want to stay. We are already planning our next trip ☺️

This home is situated right on the water with beautiful views and is fully equipped with everything you need for a holiday home with a perfectly enclosed backyard for our fur baby to play and relax in. My partner and I love the layout and design of this house with all the creature comforts for a home away from home. The host is so accommodating and helpful and we appreciate the effort she has put into making this house a comfy retreat. Hope to be back again soon.

Thorough and accurate property description
Shan has done a wonderful job of accurately representing this character filled house. Her communication as a host was also exemplary. We visited the house in winter and I was slightly concerned about the heating. I was pleasantly surprised to find we were very cosy the whole stay, as the combination of wood heater, heat pump, and cosy bedding was perfect!
