About this house rental
If the main aim of your beach holiday is utter relaxation with room to move then this is the place for you. Chateau Relaxo is one of Culburra's original beach houses and while she may not be schmick, she's been tastefully renovated, has a modern kitchen and bathroom and just got a funky new colour scheme outside.
So close to the beach you can wander down the road in nothing more than your swimmers. Our quiet little street leads directly to the beach, there are no roads to cross and you can hear the waves from the house.
The modern kitchen and bathroom have everything you could need and there are five proper bedrooms so there's plenty of privacy for everyone and no back breaking sofa beds!
There's a huge living/games room upstairs that has to be seen to be believed with full size ping pong table, luxurious leather sofas, a large balcony, and downstairs an enormous deck. Why not chill out in our comfy hammock.
A fabulous gas barbecue directly off the kitchen is ideal for instant heat and for those morning bacon and eggs. Cooks will love that there are plenty of pots, pans and sharp knives as well as a food processor.
Enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner at the smart outdoor table on the deck where there's plenty of room to move. After the beach relax in a deep bath in the sparkling bathroom. There's a washing machine, new fridge, microwave and Miele dishwasher as well as a TV, VCR, DVD, Boom box, CD, gas heater, an outdoor shower (as well as an indoor one), books and board games!
Don't forget a giant, fully fenced garden lawn - great for games - and plenty of off street parking. A wide side gate can accommodate your boat and trailer and there are loads of fabulous fishing spots nearby.
Our quiet street has a private beach entry just minutes walk from the house. There's always somewhere cool or sunny to relax in this well-sited property. Stretch out with the morning papers on the deck or enjoy the sea breezes from the upstairs balcony. Dogs welcome.
It's a quiet family neighbourhood and the house is perfect for families or respectful groups of up to ten friends. Strictly no parties or extra guests.
Bedroom and bathroom info
The house is perfectly configured for either a large family, a couple of average sized families or a group of friends including singles and couples.
Downstairs there's one bedroom with a Queen sized bed, another with a double and another with twin singles. Upstairs there's a bedroom with a Queen sized bed and another with twin singles. All bedrooms have overhead fans and we supply doonas, lightweight blankets and ample pillows of various thicknesses to suit any preference.
The sunny bathroom has a lovely deep bath, a shower, hand basin, loo and a washing machine. There's a second, separate loo as well. We supply a few rolls of loo paper for your arrival but you'll probably need to restock to cover your stay.
Kick off your shoes and really unwind in our much-loved beach house. It's comfort all the way but with no 5-star pretensions that can get in the way of really feeling at home.
Of course the beach will be the main attraction at any time of year but at Chateau Relaxo you could try these relaxing activities on for size:
Snoozing in the hammock
Sipping a drink at dusk on the deck as the sun sets
Catching a few morning rays on the balcony with a cup of coffee
Having an afternoon nap on one of the three leather sofas. We swear you'll never want to leave.
Watch a few DVDs or, if you're feeling energetic, play ping pong

Nice and clean and spacious enough for 10. Kitchen was a little small for that many people.

We had a nice stay. The property was good and it was great to bring dog but the house needs attention.
The kitchen tsp came off and we had to turn off the water. We couldn’t get a plumber til the next day which means no toilet flushing for 8 people and limited cooking, no showers. Timing wasn’t good to get someone but it’s this level of attention that the house needs attending to to make it shine. There were also shards of glass left from previous visitors that got into two peoples feet. These things happen but greater attention to cleaning and renewing appliances etc will make a difference. For example you had to hold down the toaster for it to cook.
I don’t think it would cost a lot to address and it would make a big difference.
We were offered a later check out to compensate but it wasn’t necessary. I’d rather see the effort go into the house.

It’s a fabulous location, just a couple of minutes walk to dog friendly culburra beach. The yard is large and shady which was perfect for the toddlers and the dogs and for family lunches on the lawn. We moved the table and chairs under the trees as the deck bakes in the sun with no cover on the pergola. The house is old and the bathroom is pretty crap (shower is like a dribble, bathroom basin is super small, the washing machine is very old and difficult to operate with a dicky twist nodule). Overall it’s a great stay if you’re looking for something dog friendly and close to the beach.

Property was not cleaned when we arrived such as, beds not made, towels on the floor in the bathroom, and bins full. Everything else was decently tidy. Apparently there was a mix up with the cleaners schedule, but that was sorted out later that day.
The door in the kitchen was in the brink of being totally damaged, that was my concern regarding security of the property, i hope that got fixed.
I didn't like that there is only 1 bathroom for a house that can accomodate up to 10-12 people. Good thing there was only 5 of us.
There is no adequate air con for the 2nd floor, it was really hot everytime we got back at night or in the afternoon upstairs.
Apart from that, the place is very conveniently next to the beach. The beds were very comfortable (after they got cleaned), and the ping pong table was fun to use upstairs. You guys need to replace the table tennis paddles though, they are deteriorated.
The kitchen was nice as well. Though you had two jars of salt, but no sugar 🤷♂️.
The only drama i had with the bathroom is the washing machine in there. The knob to turn it on and change the settings is close to coming apart from the machine, that needs to be fixed.
Apart from the hiccups, the property is a nice place to stay at.

My mates and I had an awesome week here with heaps of fun and enjoyment. Location was awesome being just down the road from the beach and whenever we just wanted to chill out, we all just relaxed in the backyard(especially in the hammock). Shops only being around the corner definitely was a bonus as well.
Overall it was an great stay here.

Lovely Old Original Beach House
We all loved staying at Chateau Relaxo. It's a funky , roomy, comfortable relaxing place to stay, in a great location close to the beach. Gorgeous colours throughout, especially the new outside paint job. My brothers dog was in seventh heaven in the large backyard. New BBQ is great. Only one small drawback was noisy plumbing in the kitchen. Would definitely recommend this house.

Great short stay with dogs
The yard was brilliant for the dogs but our smaller one did get under the gate ! The beach is dog friendly and only a short walk up the road. Loved the fans in each room. Thanks.

Should get the money back. { Filthy dirty house }
This is a filthy property I don't know why they charge a cleaning fee as it has obviously been a long time since someone cleaned much. The BBQ is gross and dangerous with rusted burners it needs to be thrown out as does the lounge room fan. The blinds downstairs are broken and filthy and the curtains are broken too the sliding door in the lounge doesn't have a covering so the street can watch you.

Casual beach getaway
Lots of space to relax in casual comfort. Quirky house layout but generous sized bedrooms. The single bathroom was a challenge. Took a while to get used to the noisy kitchen taps.
Overall, a good stay for in an original house, close to the beach, at an affordable price.

Excellent location and great beach house
Easily fit our group of 10 people for 4 nights although one of the beds was a bit small for a couple.
Location was fantastic with a short walk to the beach and house was well equipped to allow us to cook meals at home.
Stephanie the host was easily reachable when we had a small problem with the bbq and helped us resolve it quickly.
Would definitely book again.

Great Location
The location was absolutely perfect for our family, a short walk to the beach and local coffee shop meant we all had a very relaxing stay. Being so close to the beach meant the afternoon sea breeze swept through everyday making perfect conditions for a nap

Good budget beach cottage
This house has lots of space, two separate toilets, a bathtub, and a large backyard with trees, a deck, BBQ, outdoor shower, and Hills Hoist clothesline. The proximity to the beach (5 minute walk) and the shops (3 minute drive) is also a plus. The allowance of dogs was also great. We recommend this house for groups who aren’t looking for modern amenities and will only need the basics—to sleep, bathe, relax, walk to the beach, cook simple meals and enjoy them outside on the deck. We will return for long family weekends away that aren’t high holidays.
A few notes that might be helpful: As other reviews have said, the house is old. As a result it is only as clean as a very old house with the original fixtures can get and some of the doors are difficult to close (e.g. bathroom door). The microwave is from the 70s or early 80s, so we opted not to use it after second thought. The oven cooked the Christmas turkey and pie unevenly despite turning. We had some electricity issues as a result of using more than one power outlet at a time on the second floor—the lights in the singles bedroom kept switching on and off by itself, waking up the kids. The owner was responsive but could do very little because of the holiday. The bed in the double room downstairs is not a double bed; it’s more like a generous single so we had to adjust room assignments from two adults to one adult in that room. The refrigerator is on the small side if you are near full occupancy and intend to cook several meals. We couldn’t figure out where the WiFi worked; it was very weak upstairs in the sitting and TV area. The railings upstairs have openings large enough for small children to sneak through, so we moved the couches to block access for the young ones.
Other than those things, there’s a lot to enjoy in this rental.

Spacious, comfortable house in great location
The house is old but comfortable and roomy, and the garden is huge. The location is great, just a couple of minutes walk to a beautiful beach. It was a bonus to find a satin bowerbird’s bower in the back garden! Overall the property worked very well for our family of four and border collie. The only downside was that the wifi was very weak.

Great location with everything you need
This house was an awesome spot for our end of semester trip. The proximity to the beach was perfect and even when the wind picked up, a short 5 min drive south to the other side of the headland meant that the beach was always an option. The house had everything we needed in terms of amenities. We had an issue with a gas leak at the start of our stay and the owner responded quickly to bring a plumber in the next morning. Overall a fantastic place for a holiday especially if you are on a budget like we were.

End of school celebrations with friends
The property is in a great location very close to the beach and local shops which are all in walking distance. The neighbours are beautiful and very friendly my friends and I had the best week away to celebrate finishing school. The property is very spacious with a large outdoor area to relax in the sun. Overall great house would 100% recommend

Traveled with 6 others friends to this great house super close to the beach. It's a grand old beach shack, a bit of age but a lot of character and patina. The upstairs lounge room has loads of comfy lounges to relax in after holding some ping pong championships. The beach is less than 5 minutes away, at the end of the cul de sac while 10 minutes the other puts you in the middle of some great coffee and food locations.Stephanie was lovely to communicate with, both via email and SMS. Super accommodating and flexible to our needs.Only wish our stay was longer.

Fun time had by all
Great location and plenty of room to move. Pretty basic fibro beach house, but that's all we needed. Meant that we could relax and enjoy the beach at the end of the street, without worrying about walking sand through the house. Worth noting that there is only one bathroom (two separate toilets) and no wifi. It was great for the kids to have a break from their screens and battle it out with the table tennis!

We enjoyed our time at Chateau Relaxo with plenty of room for an extended family. The table tennis table upstairs provided hours of competition when the weather was a bit cool for the beach.

Will keep coming back
Such a great place. A quick walk to the beach, room for plenty of people to enjoy comfortably, a dishwasher and a bbq - what more could you want in a beach-side holiday house?!
Stephanie was a great hostess, communicative and made sure we had everything we needed.
Thank you!

In need of a complete update.
The appliances were old and some eg toaster and jug were unsafe, chairs on deck needed repair, blankets and heating are insufficient for winter on the south coast, and single beds were old and uncomfortable.

We have been Chateau Relaxo'd !
We had a fantastic 5 day break and found this property to be ideally located, (walk to the beach at the end of a quiet street ) clean, comfortable and a place to relax with great indoor and outdoor spaces. There was plenty of room for all of us including our Labrador.Although small the kitchen was well equipped and the bbq was very handy too. Wooden floors and deck area downstairs were easy to keep free of sand and the upstairs lounges were very comfy, especially after a hard day at the beach ! Local,DVD hire and supermarket were well stocked and the weather was fantastic. Adults, kids and our dog have all returned home feeling rejuvenated

Beautiful property
I'm not too sure about the previous review as we had a great stay at Chateau Relaxo. We stayed 21st-28th Jan 2017 with a large group of 4 adults and 5 children. As we chose to stay at a holiday house we did not expect 5-star hotel standards but we were very happy with the quality of the house. On arrival it was clean throughout with fresh crisp white linen on the beds. There were no bugs, although if I were to see a bug or two I wouldn't be phased as it's summer time in Australia - bugs are to be expected at some point. The kitchen was fine - the fridge and oven were not broken. The kitchen had everything in it that you needed and the host very thoughtfully left in the fridge, sparkling apple juice and fresh milk which I thought was a lovely touch. The backyard is huge and we loved having our dinner on the deck and someone was always in the hammock. The beach is a quick stroll to the end of the street and we were lucky enough to see dolphins one morning. The kids loved the ping pong table upstairs and there was plenty of seating in the lounge room. I do agree the glass coffee table was a bit hazardous as there were plenty of bumps into it as we navigated our way onto the lounges. I slept downstairs and loved the ceiling fans but I do think upstairs is in need of fans as well as it can get quite hot in summer. I didn't expect wifi access in a holiday house, once again it's not a hotel - but our mobile phone coverage was perfect with both Optus and Telstra. The upstairs windows are low so may be a little dangerous for smaller children if they were unsupervised, our children are older so it wasn't an issue with us. The house is a two storey house with stairs to the second level. If the previous guest has elderly parents who cannot use stairs why did she book a two storey house? They were just normal stairs with a railing. We had a wonderful stay and would stay again. It's a gorgeous house with a lovely atmosphere.

Such a Disappointment
We booked this property based on the lovely photos on this website (that must have been taken many years ago). Upon arrival I immediately contacted Stephanie to let her know of the list of problems, she has avoided my emails since we left the property and since there is no wifi provided or phone reception in the house I found it very difficult to contact her. Despite me alerting her to the problems, there was, and has been, no offer to compensate or fix the issues. Firstly, the property was not clean. There were bugs everywhere, our linen wasn't fresh and my kids actually refused to sleep on the linen provided and I had to head to Nowra to buy some (not recompensated by owners). The linen was stained and not fresh. There was mould on the walls and bathroom ceiling. The smell in the place was awful. The kitchen is tiny (but functional, although the front of the oven had fallen off and the fridge door doesn't close if there's anything in it). There is no downstairs lounge as implied in the advertising. This property is NOT child friendly. Infact it's dangerous for children, there are no secure locks or screens on any upstairs windows (and no air con or fans upstairs which makes it so hot). The stairs are difficult for elderly to navigate (my parents actually had to return home as they couldn't use the stairs or the downstairs beds they were so uncomfy). There are sharp edges everywhere, a totally impractical glass table upstairs which serves only to bruise everyone who passes it. The bins had maggots coming out of them, Bathroom toilet and the only washand basin in the property were broken. Hot water system often tripped. Overall if you are a bunch of teenage boys looking for a schoolies trip then perhaps this house would fit the bill but I would say this house is NOT worth even half the overpriced rates we were charged. If you are a family looking to enjoy the beautiful town of Culburra then I would advise you to widen your search. Our holiday was anything but 'Relaxo" and the only thing this property has in common with a Castle is it's decrepid need for renovation and cleaning. I am not sure where the other reviews come from but this is by far the worst property I've stayed in in a long time.

Exactly what we needed
We had a wonderful time in this lovely beach house. Stephanie was very organised and welcoming and made us feel like we were in a home away from home. Huge space to sleep our big family and a great lounge area to relax later in the evenings. The rear deck became our dining table and the nearby BBQ was a bonus. Out outdoor doggies loved coming on holiday with us and settled in quickly. The dog friendly beach at the end Of street makes for fun walks and swims.

Great location!!
Perfect house for our end of year getaway. This house comfortably fit us all for sleeping and we spent almost all of our time on the deck and in the yard. The huge back yard was great for cricket and the dogs loved it. So close to the beach, and what and amazing beach it is made even more special by the pod of dolphins one morning!!

Just what we wanted!
This house was perfect - close to the beach, enough rooms and beds for us, our two daughters and two sets of grandparents. Huge, secure, yard for our dogs. Short walk to the beach (off leash in the early morning and late afternoon) which was good for swimming and fishing. Would definitely go back.

Great location to the beach
Our stay at Chateau Relaxo was indeed relaxing, the back yard was great for the family of 10 adults and 3 grandchildren. Many games of mini softball and soccer were played over our stay. The deck was also great for breakfast, lunch and dinner and the BBQ certainly got a work out.

Great long weekend retreat for us and rellies attending nearby wedding.
Chosen because it was also "pet friendly": large enclosed back yard for our dog
