A good breakfast at a reasonable price.
The cost of car parking $40.00 per night. It appears like a premium price where parking is in short supply.
4.5
Excellent Continental breakfast. The staff were very welcoming and more than helpful.
I had difficulty with the side door key combination coming back after dinner.
4.5
Great place to stay. Interesting building and decor. A delightful change from the usual corporate blandness.
4.5
Outstanding service. We had difficulty operating the washing machine so the host took our washing and washed it in their machine and returned it to us finished. How many places would do that!
Accommodation was also outstanding.

HOTEL WAS FAB, BREAKFAST GREAT

We thoroughly enjoyed the continental buffet breakfast which was included in our room rate.
The whole property is decorated in a very quirky way and much effort has gone into making it a very unique experience and had we had a better room we would have given it 5 stars. The staff were also great and very helpful.
Our room (No. 1 - The Bowling Room) was apparently the worst and smallest available. During the afternoon of our arrival we could hear a strange noise that came out of our bathroom - a bit like a whirring/siren type noise. It turned out our room was located next to the elevator and every time someone used it we got the noise and could still hear it despite closing our ensuite door. Fortunately we didn't have a problem during the night. Our room (ground floor) looked out on a small partly screened area with rubbish bins and it also backed onto a supermarket loading area with forklifts beeping from 7.00 am!!! We now realise why there were ear-plugs provided beside our bed!!!

Everything! Unique in so many ways. It’s 6 years old, but looks brand-new. Staff is so very friendly, knowledgable about local activities and attractions, and fun. Breakfast was very nice. Room was smallish, but super clean and well-organized. Very nice Kleenex. Unusual for hotels. Many special touches all around the property. Excellent.
No decaf coffee.

Really fine building with very interesting fixtures. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was superb. Walking distance to areas of interest.
Could have used more spaces to put our clothes

We have stayed in 11 hotels over the past 11 days in the north and South Island and they were good but this was by far the best. Room was amazing and staff were so friendly and helpful
Nothing

Very characterful decor, bordering on an entertaining museum experience with all the antiques and artifacts. Location was excellent, as was access to free parking. Room was spacious yet comfortable. Staff were warm and very helpful.
Toiletries (shampoo, body wash, etc) was of poorer quality than those offered in other similarly priced hotels and not generous enough for two persons to use.
4.5
Nice room with a great design
Really clean and comfy bed
Great breakfast

Lovely modern facilities
When we arrived to check in the hotel was locked up and we had to ring the front door bell several times to get someone’s attention - we started yo wonder if we had the right place as there is no decent signage directing us to the entrance. We stood on the street with our bags for 15 mins. When the door was opened we had to actually explain why we were there.
We were about 5 mins before our notified check in time but we would have been happy to sit in the foyer if they were not ready for us. The foyer was advertised as being comfortable and welcoming. Being locked out on the street with our bags was not great.

Great pub ecclectic foyer lots to look at Phil was very relaxed and showed us round.
Some minor stuff that could be improved More soap and shampoo and toilet seat was loose. Otherwise will definitely stay there again if we go to Oamaru

The property is very clean with very special decoration

Building is beautiful with interesting interior design. Lots of antiques and photos to look at.
Parking in the grocery store lot.

It provided a unique and artistic style which I had never experienced before!
The bedding and room was very clean and well-kept.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The elevator, albeit slow, was interesting. After you dropped your bags, the short stairwell out onto the street remedied this. Also useful for getting back to your room quickly in the evening.
We didn't know where to park at first, an automated message and/or a pre-arrival pdf guide would help.
The accommodation may shock you a bit with its still, and it may not feel like a hotel per se, but it was absolutely fine and very comfortable.
4.5
Big TV. Bed was ok
Hair in the shower when we arrived. Lack of off street parking. Lift that was hard to work. Quite noisy and small room
4.5
Funky design and history
Bed very uncomfortable

Amazing experience from check-in to check-out.
Hosts were great, room was well appointed and quirky in Oamaru Steampunk/rural stylings.
Great sleep considering we were on the main road, earplugs provided but were not needed.
Would have liked a cooked breakfast, but understand this is more guest house accommodation.
The continental offerings were very nice, and breakfast staff helpful and friendly

I liked that style and character of the building. The staff are also very lovely.
There was an old used left over bar of soap in the shower which hasn’t been cleaned out and there was no milk in the fridge for a coffee or tea, which I did get once I asked for it. Just generally could be cleaner and more organised.
4.5
Clean room, updated bathroom with great shower and comfortable bed
We were given a room on the corner overlooking a busy street while there were other rooms available that were set back from the street. Street traffic including boy racers and trucks went on throughout the night.

Nothing, the hosts have got it just right. Wouldn’t stay anywhere else.

What a lovely hotel! Beautifully decorated, and filled with amazing art! We booked the apartment, which is totally worth it, as it includes a kitchenette, comfy sofa, separate entrance with its own parking space, and separate bedroom. The bathroom was also huge, with 2 sinks. LOVED IT! There is also an incredible lounge to sit and read or have some complimentary tea or coffee. Staff goes above and beyond to help and provide tips, everyone very friendly and positive. Breakfast is continental, but very well presented. They even had a whole separate celiac toaster for me! We are not big breakfast eaters, so this was plenty for us. Perfect location, right in the middle of everything, we walked everywhere. Immaculately clean too.

It is located on a main road but the rooms were quiet so was not an issue
