It was the perfect getaway for our family. Near town and on the lake. Plenty of room.

This house is great - from location to amenities, it's fantastic. Wonderful dock, sunsets, and location close to town. The only thing I would recommend would be to add in stairs to the dock in addition to the ladder - for older folks. Will be back again!

We had a wonderful stay at Windy Cross with our family of 6 adults and 4 kids! The kids loved the bunk room downstairs, and there was plenty of space for all of the adults. The property was fantastic and the location on the lake was perfect. The sunsets on the lake and the hot tub were great evening additions. Morton & Furbish was extremely responsive anytime we had questions or needed anything and were so easy to work with!

Our family stayed at Windy Cross for a week this winter to ski Saddleback. M&F, as usual, were very helpful and knowledgeable! The house itself was very charming and well-located. The first floor offers ample space with multiple living rooms and a great fireplace and dining area. The views are breathtaking! We're staying at this house this summer for two weeks, and we're excited!
However, with minor improvements, this house could be even better: It was very cluttered - all of the available shelves and bookcases were packed with fake flowers, figurines, etc. The master bedroom didn't have a dresser, only 3 small drawers built into the wall, where one was already full of clothes. The pillows were flat, unfortunately. The kitchen was listed as well-equipped, but it was not - all of the pots/pans were Teflon and chipped/scratched, so were unusable.
I hope the owners take renters' considerations/comments into perspective before then, as the home would be more comfortable for renters. They truly have such a great property, and we appreciate being able to stay there!

Great house in a great location. We were aware the basement had water damage and was not usable ahead of time. Upon arrival, heating system did not work, but they came out quickly to address it just needed a new battery. They had seeded and watered the week prior and the well dried up so we had brown water and had to run to shower at another location. Not a big deal, but we were there for a wedding and so each day, all 10 of us had to coordinate. With little kids, even having another location was stressful. Not the fault of Morton and Furbish at all, they were pleasant, attentive and helpful. But just not ideal for any stay.

Excellent
31 windy cross is an amazing property. We loved our stay although we wish we had longer. . We are extremely happy with attentiveness. We would never complain about the small first world issues we had …..couldn't get hot tub hot enough and couldn't get television to work. The only reason I even mention is to let you know it was handled by Garr quickly and professionally . I will make sure to rent directly through Morton/forbish next time but you might want to know I looked on your website first and property didn't show, however once I found on Vrbo everything was directed through you. Just thought you might want to know that. Thanks again for everything great place to stay great property management!

Perfection
Winter in Maine can be ... a challenge. By the end of our stay we were hoping for a blizzard so we wouldn't have to leave. The house is probably even more spectacular in summer or fall. In significant need of a break from ... "all this" ... we found it at Windy Cross. The grounds are beautiful, right on the lake. You'll find yourself lost in thought, gazing at the waves, the trees, the weather, the sun or moon glinting off the water, the dazzling stars ... before you know it you've managed to be truly in the moment and far from the worries that made you seek this experience out in the first place. We hope to go back some day.

Great Lake Location - Home Needs Attention
This was our 10th year renting on Rangeley Lake. We found this property to be very clean and spacious. The hot tub was a great addition to the rental and made for a very enjoyable week. The views of the lake from this site are exceptional and probably the best we have ever had.
Unfortunately, there were many things about this home that we found disappointing. Much of the outdoor dining furniture was broken or unusable including the chairs and umbrella. This area was also very dirty. As a result we did not eat outdoors once.
The yard had a significant ant infestation, especially around the fire pit area. It made it difficult to sit around the fire as ants would crawl up your leg as you sat there.
The washer only worked on one cycle (delicate) and the clothes dryer took 3-4 runs to get clothes "mostly" dry. The ping pong table was broken and could not be used by our children.
The kitchen lacked some essential items, including enough drinking glasses to support the number of people the home advertises to rent, pot holders and any glassware like a wine glass, etc.
The boat mooring was in good working order, but there was no kayak or other item to help get you to the mooring. Luckily we had packed our inflatable paddle board. There are no cleats or padding on the dock itself, so those with boats should come prepared with additional buoys.
While Rangeley Lake never disappoints, this home needs some attention by the owner to ensure the experience which is advertised and paid for is delivered to the consumer.

Spring Fishing
We had several different people here over the week. This is a "work" week for clients. This house was perfect. The only thing that surprised us, was no bedroom on the first floor. My Dad's 75, but the stairs were no big deal. Great location for fishing Grennvale Cove. Hot tub was fantastic after a long day of fishing. Will definitely rent this camp again

Perfect setting for shared vacation!
Windy Cross is the perfect setting for a multi-family or intergenerational vacation. The ample-property size, ideal convenience to Rangeley Village and proximity to attractions like Saddleback and hikes are wonderful. It offers spectacular sunsets and lovely neighbors with a traditional Rangeley camp atmosphere.

Great Stay!
We had a fantastic time at Windy Cross. The dock was a lovely place to sit and the water was perfect for a swim. Nice and clear, no weeds. We enjoyed s'mores by the fire pit, hot tubs in the evening, and the kids loved the basement space. Though we had a few days of rain, the house comfortably accommodated all 8 of us - with a small built-in table in the back corner (a bald eagle landed on the swim platform while playing games at the table!) and the generous front room with a TV - it worked for everyone. Thanks for a great stay!

Beautiful home, great for large groups
My family and I had an excellent stay. The home is absolutely beautiful and met all expectations. The beds were comfortable, the home was warm and well cared for, we also really enjoyed the ping pong table! The kitchen was a little small, which made it difficult to navigate with >2 people in it. The proximity to skiing and snowmobiliing was on point. This will be our new go to spot when we head north for a winter escape.

Over rated location....
We enjoyed our stay because we made the best of a questionable situation.
This property is listed as a quality /quaint place to stay. Do not go into this with high standards for the cost. Maybe at half of the price, and maybe in the summertime.
It does have a nice layout and space, but it needs some work and repairs.
Bring your own water to drink and make coffee with.
This would not be my first choice should I ever stay in that area again.

Review of Windy Cross
First of all, I have to say the staff at Morton & Furbish are top notch! They gave exceptional customer service and answered all of our questions during the booking process. Windy Cross is in a great location to the town and any activities (like hiking Bald Mountain) and the home was very clean when we arrived. The property is private but the neighbor came over the first night to say they would be having a bon fire on their beach and would do everything to keep the smoke from our direction. The waterfront offers exceptional views of the lake and sunsets. We sat on the dock, enjoying some fishing, and then sat on the front door deck sheltered when the wind picked up. The home had everything we needed and the instructions were clear and available. We hope to come back again next year!

beautiful rental
Our group of 5 couple thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The private space gave us lots of room to be together, but also allowed us plenty of space to be alone. The sunset were amazing and having a grocery store less than a mile away meant we had everything we needed. Would love to come again!
