We absolutely loved the house. It slept 15 of us very comfortably and all of the amenities were wonderful. I was a little worried since I'd seen a couple reviews saying the house wasn't super cleaned, but either those were a fluke or they've hired better cleaners, because the place was spotless. Any question I had was answered nearly immediately by the rental company people.
The only problem that we had was that this property is in bear country, and there are NO bear boxes or bear-secure dumpsters on the property. Because of this, we had to take our trash all the way into town to be able to dispose of it safely - which was a 20 minute drive each way. It was an incredible inconvenience, and was quite annoying since in the meantime we were forced to store full trash bags in the laundry room until we could take a trip back down the mountain.

The only positive stay was there was enough room for everyone and Frank from Vacasa, tried to make things better.

Perfect for a large family and the downstairs is perfect for the kiddos.

We loved this house, it was perfect for us. It was very clean and everything we needed was there and easy to find. We enjoyed the hot tub and decks in this secluded area. We will definitely hope to return next year.

It is a long way up to the house from the road and it’s a pretty rough gravel road. It is a nice house but it definitely needs some upkeep. Doesn’t really feel like a house intended for rental property but rather a family home that is rented to help cover costs. It was not a bad place to stay but there’s some significant upkeep that needs to take place. Could not access the downstairs because no one wanted to sleep in rooms or use the restroom that had ants all over the floor and climbing up the walls. I understand that is a seasonal challenge there, but no one wants to deal with that so none of the rooms were used downstairs for the entire stack. The place was cleaned pretty well as I had stated, significance and concerns ahead of time and I appreciate that. It was a little frustrating that there was no Keurig, coffee canisters or anything like that. Most every other place had several items like that complementary. It is an OK place that has the potential to be great. I will say that having nice hot water was nice. Honestly, the stairs leading to the front door look like they could collapse at any moment and there’s a lot of woodwork on the deck and other places that really just needs to be replaced. Again not a bad place but they should’ve charged me less for what I was getting. I will not be going back.

The only redeeming quality about this house was its size. Everything else was terrible. The house was filthy. The sheets were dirty, I took pictures of dried dirt on the sheets. There were very limited towels in the bathroom, there weren't any kitchen towels, and only 1 roll of paper towels. I found half drank water bottles under the couch, toys under the table, and wood chips all in front of the fireplace. The home was not vacuumed before we checked in. When we tried to open windows, one of the windows almost fell off the hinges. The hot tub was broken(we complained and we were told it would be fixed, no one came), the ping pong table was broken, and the foosball table didn't have any balls that worked. When we called the management company they said someone would come to clean, that never happened. They said someone would call me, that never happened. I am beyond disappointed in the rental experience we had. Sadly, I will never rent a home managed by Vacasa again, they are a terrible company with extremely low standards.

The house was fabulous for our needs... lots of space, modern, clean , airy, well equipped, close to amenities and a beautiful coast line. it would have been nice to have been informed that the pool etc was not open this weekend as this was one of the reason we chose this property.
We will hopefully stay again!

Although we have stayed in numerous AirBNBs over many years, this is my very first review I felt led to do because this home with the potential of being very lovely and enjoyable was in considerable neglect in areas which long term are not being attended to and affected and took from our time greatly. To touch on first would be to say that we have leased through many companies who do property management companies with great experiences, but have never stayed through Vacasa and would not do so again. Before our arrival getting information on the home was very difficult as you are taking to agents completely across the country who do a great job is verbalizing great customer service pleasantries, but seems to not really have any feet on the ground for information associated with the property itself and do not follow through at all. During our 4 days our first issue was that there was no wifi working (for which we needed for a working stay). The agent at the number given is across the country and assured me that someone would take care of the issue early the next day and call me back to confirm and also call me before their arriving. 4 days, no one ever showed up, no calls or follow up from Vacasa, nothing done. We never had wifi for a working stay. Two days in we lost power for a whole day and the agent said she would find out what the issue was (in case we needed to pack up and leave) and contact me right back with information....No return call. We had to track down and locate local officials to find information ourselves which was resolved, but the point was that he had spend the day trying to handle this ourselves (as we were unsure if we needed to leave) and it took alot of time away from our time. Very frustrating as we had 12 children and 7 adults in a house. Those are comments regarding Vacasa themselves which we easily would just have never used them again....BUT more pressing were the reasons of property neglect for which I decided to write this review. With regard to the property, I don't know who is suppose to be caring for it, but I am wondering if there is any ongoing maintenance at all as it was extremely poorly cared for. There were so many things we felt that renters if they knew would not choose the property I am certain. To list: many of the electrical outlets in the kitchen would not work at all which made cooking challenging for a house full of people. We couldn't run a toaster and a microwave at the same time. There were definitely several electrical issues in the kitchen. We had to move appliances around in the kitchen to try to do any meals to find outlets that worked. The microwave above the stove did not work at all. There were lights that didn't work in the kitchen. Two heavy cabinet doors in the kitchen were falling off the cabinet and one huge heavy drawer fell completely out into the floor and injured several people. We kept the children away from the drawers. The table in the entry was buckled and leaning so poorly and about to crumble. The towel rods in the downstairs bathrooms were falling off the wall. The jacuzzi tub in the master did not work at all, so we didn't get to use that. The dryer element (?) must be bad because it took a whole day to dry to loads of towels running them 24/7. We could not wash and dry clothes with low heat in there for guests with us. As we were leaving I noticed the smoke detector on the main room ceiling was not even there and wires hanging. If I were to guess, perhaps someone comes to do minimal few items clean up after a reservation stay, but they do not do maintenance care or overall clean for the house. There were closests filled with really dirty iteme and strewn on the floors and shelves. In the foyer closet was a pair of underwear tossed in there covered in dust. The last time was that in none of the literature I found could I find where exactly a trash dumpster is located in the area. We had to drive 20 minutes in...

The property was very misrepresented on line.
The description promised ping pong, foosball and a outdoor grill. All of which were unusable do to their very run down condition and missing parts. There were several pieces of broken furniture or beds with no bedding that could be used. Upon arrival we spent 45 mins clearing the steps up to the house just to get in. We were told there had been no snow fall for over a week. We were asked to haul off the trash when we left but there were no trash bags available. A wood burning stove was available and there were logs to burn but no ax available to split it with. Only one TV could be used as the others had no remote controls. Mold in some of bathrooms and splatters on the walls left a lot to be desired on the cleaning of the rental. Reviews found after the dead line for cancellation confirmed most of the condition above. We will reconsider any future booking though this service.

Nice location with amazing views. Quiet area of the mountain with lots of wildlife. Could use clarification about trash responsibilities and departure responsibilities. Wifi didn’t work, I actually had to setup the router, as this had not been done. Walls had some grime on them and the floors were pretty dirty/not vacuumed well before we arrived. Looking under furniture there was all sorts of things to find, old socks and trash…things like that. Hot tub did work, beds were not very comfortable.

The house was incredible, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Only issues we had was the floors were dirty and the vacuum did not work, and our towels had been washed and put up damp, which caused them all to smell.

First thing I noticed was all the dust, dirt and grime on most areas. Walls, doors, fans, drawers. Dishwasher was still full. One dishwashing tablet to use for a three night stay with lots of use needed. No paper towels. Hot tub worked but only to 80 degrees so felt chilly. The rooms were what spacious but something should be relayed to housekeeper. People don’t pay a hefty cleaning fee for it to look like that when you arrrive

We arrived from a long day of travel to a house that hadn’t been cleaned yet. The cleaning crew showed up after 4 pm & we waited outside until 7 pm ( it was 8 in our time zone) so all we’re hungry & tired. Very rushed job on a big house, hot tub looked nasty.
Master bedroom had no remote for tv so you couldn’t watch tv. Had to move the large rug & pool table for medical emergency & lots of food & trash underneath the rug.
House only had 1 roll of paper towels & 1 roll plus 1 extra of toilet paper in each bath. House accommodates 25 people but paper products don’t & I did message ahead of time & was told otherwise. The morning we checked out the hot tub guy showed up & was co fused why we were there. He said he never cleaned it from previous renters to our reservation & had no email to have it cleaned. I did contact Vacasa who manages the property with only a text of apology & they appreciated my patience.
House needs a deep cleaning, hot tub needs cleaned in between every reservation. We won’t rent this house again due to management property & the price we paid for the house. Already have my rental for next year,

This home has so much potential to be great but the lack of attention just made it ok. We was so excited to get in and start our family vacation but had to pause due to unclean conditions. There was noticeable dirt and crumbs everywhere. We had to sleep on blow up mattress because the pull outs was so nasty. There was food and wrappings in bed. One set of sheets had holes in them. No Master bedroom TV remote which didn't matter because there was no TV services. We was definitely disappointed in the overall care or lack there of. However we made the best of it and enjoyed the deer and family time.

All 14 of our family members very much enjoyed our stay at Shalom House in Angel Fire. The surrounding forest and view is spectacular, the visiting deer friendly, and the house very comfortable. The only suggestion is for you to alert visitors that the home is 9,810 ft. above sea level. My wife as not able to handle that altitude and was transported to Taos hospital for assistance. I think most folks can handle the altitude, but I suggest you be clear about in in your advertising.

Hi Lee - we are staying at Shalom House. I have called your people twice yesterday shortly after arrival at 6:12pm and was told I would get a phone call shortly - after not receiving one at 7:15 I called again. This time I was told someone would call me on 10/15. It is now 9:30 and I have heard from no one. In addition to bugs, cobwebs, smoldering wood in the wood stove, burnt wood pulled out of the broken chiminea and laying on deck, bug squished on bathroom wall, bedroom with half a broken blind, hand prints on sliding glass door, no aluminum foil, Saran Wrap or anything of that kind, coffee pot appears to have a broken seal and leaks out, no WiFi, no TV...This is terrible and your "peoples" response is worse. I have stayed at many Vacation rentals for far less money and so much superior accommodations. BTW - we finally found pillows for the day beds, but no pillow cases. All unacceptable. In addition, coffee pot leaked and I was told on 10/15 that there were no coffee pots available in Angel Fire and they would go to Taos on Sunday (check out day) and deliver. After speaking with person at Vacasa about Wifi and them having go over the password, etc. to make sure we were doing it right, we were told by cleaning crew that came at 3:25 on Saturday asking what did we need (this would be the 4th time telling someone e with Vacasa!) that the wifi hadn’t worked for 2 - 3 months!! BTW - that meant no TV either. Worst managed property I have ever stayed in.

When we arrived the house was unlocked. The things that didn't work TV, Internet, dishwasher, coffee maker, microwave. The outdoor grill was trash. The yard was filled with trash. Underneath my neices bed we found a rolled up 10 dollar bill lying on a credit card with a white substance on it which we gave to your maintenance man. Finally on the evening of the 14th thru. thru the day of the 15th we had no water.

Great place for large group
The view was fantastic and there was lots of space in the kitchen and family room. We enjoyed all the different sleeping accommodations as we were a mix of married, single and children. The kitchen was well stocked and it was easy to prepare large meals. Our only disappointment was the hot tub wasn't working.

We really enjoyed our family trip at this property. Everything was very clean and in working order. I did hear some complaints about the beds not being the best, but overall a really cool place!

Beautiful Home and Scenery, Vacasa (management company) Needs to do a better job
We enjoyed the home, however if I owned the property I would be disappointed in the management of it. All the batteries in every remote for every TV was completely dead. The beds all need updating or at the very least mattress toppers, the springs were coming through on several, saw this on another review back in 2020 but assumed/hoped that it was addressed before our stay in Dec. 2021.
Also, DO NOT STAY HERE DURNING THE WINTER MONTHS, got an email 1 week before we were to leave with 20 people that you absolutely needed a four wheel drive vehicle, no where in the description does it state that or I wouldn't have booked this particular home. It snowed heavily the second day and even with four wheel drive we couldn't get in and out of the driveway, had to hire a wrecker service on Christmas day to pull one of the four wheel drives, an Avalanche out of a ditch after sliding down the driveway, $400!! Paying this much money for this home we should have been on a scheduled snow plow the day after the huge snow, the driveway is steep! I understand it snows and it's in the mountains but so should the management company VACASA and have a plan since I'm betting it happens there often!
Also, there is only one trash bag and no receptacles to put the trash in for a home that sleeps 25, REALLY!! That needs to be in the description so that we could have brought our own and without the ability to get in and out of the driveway it was definitely a challenge with 20 people, we had to stack all of our trash downstairs in the ping pong area.
We've stayed in lots of VRBO's all around the world and this one was not managed well. Called several times about the driveway issue and was told by Debra R and Samantha that we were scheduled for snow plowing the day after the snow storm and they just never showed up. We were told there was a snow shovel somewhere on the property, it was buried in the yard under the snow. Bring snow chains, salt, a snow blower or something because it's seriously impossible to get in and out of this driveway! On the day we left we had to carry all of our stuff, in calf high snow, down the driveway to the road to load. It was extremely frustrating. I'm hoping with this review that they will do better for the next guests or at the very least the owners will see this and do something about these issues.

Shalom House Review
The property was great, beautiful house, the only issue was with the beds, mattresses definitely need to be replaced with hotel quality mattresses that can with stand heavy use, these felt like second hand mattresses.

Mice in the house - DO NOT STAY HERE
We heard mice every night in the walls, woke up to 3 mice in the kitchen That had eaten through our snacks on the counter and found mice poop in the bathroom. There was absolutely no where to deposit the trash outside. The hot tub was pure algae and so gross, they fixed it on day two, but only got warm enough to even get in to enjoy for the last 12 hours of our stay. The oven wasn’t working, the property manager never got back to us about so it never worked duration of the stay 4 days. Rugs in the house look 20 years old, dirty, gross, carpet is stained. There were 2 trash bags and 1 paper towel left for the whole house. We had to buy or own and find other places to throw the trash. Most of the beds are horribly uncomfortable and creeky just to turn around it feels like the bed frames might collapse. Horribly unhappy for the price we paid for this house, unacceptable, I want a refund.

Gret place to stay
The house was awesome but there were a few things not right. We rented the house to bring our children and grandchildren. The photos show a playground. There's not one but there is one down the mountain in Angel Fire several miles away. Also the kitchen and floors were dirty. We had to clean before we got to do anything else. Most of the cooking utensils were dirty as were the pots and pans. We had to wash each one before we could use them. Normally we would rinse them and go. Nope we had to go to the store and buy dish soap because the tiny bottle they left didn't make it through the 1st day. There were black ants in the kitchen and also down stairs where our grands played ping pong and foosball. Moths were terrible.
The house was awesome but considering the upped cleaning fees not so great. Maybe the cleaning service should take some of the extra fees and put it toward getting the house sprayed.
We would for sure stay here again but I feel like the owners really need to know this.

Snow covered drive
Everything was great except for getting into the drive. When that much snow comes at one time, and for the amount we paid, a service at no charge should be available to put down gravel on the drive.

A wonderful high mountain home
We, as a family of 19, ages 70 to 10, loved staying together in this home. It well accommodated us with 6 private and beautiful bedrooms. Just wish we could have had more time to sit on the front deck and enjoy the quiet and beautiful out-of-doors! We definitely would choose this house again
