About this house rental
Casa Del Sol on Vaca Cut
A truly magical place "Casa Del Sol" sits on the edge of "Vaca Cut” showcasing fabulous views of the Gulf of Mexico along with immediate boating access to the Gulf or direct through the "Vaca Cut” bridge (12’ clearance) to the Ocean. The outdoor area flows from the patio out to the pool deck, beach, tidal pool and then to the pier dock. "Vaca Cut" is a fast-moving body of water from incoming to outgoing tides with fish of every kind moving through that makes fishing from the dock great entertainment!
Even if you are not a boater or angler you can enjoy the freshwater pool or relax on the beach area rimming the salt water tidal pool and view the continuous plethora of sea life in the lagoon that comes and goes with the tides. A truly incredible experience that makes this property unique beyond any other. Every evening you can toast the end of another great vacation day in the Keys while viewing the display of sunset color to the west and enjoy the tiki torches that turn on once the sun goes down.
This updated 3 bedroom, 2.5 Bath home has a great floorplan with the living areas on the first level along with a Master Bedroom suite and screen porch. Upstairs are two guest bedrooms with a hall bath and den area that includes a sofa chaise that converts to a sleeper.
The home has recently undergone a charming, refreshed look with new interior colors in soft tones of blue and grey, new flooring throughout the top floor bedrooms and sitting area, new interior doors and interior lighting throughout for a modern and clean look with all new hardware. New furniture in the guest bedrooms with one now having a king size bed and beautiful eclectic furniture and the other a queen bed with new coastal style furnishings. A stunning stainless refrigerator with other new appliances coming. New TV's in the guest bedrooms (streaming only), and the master and living area TV's have Xfintity service as well as streaming capability.
The living areas are all open to each other with a couch, loveseat and swivel chairs for TV viewing and entertainment, a 50' flat screen TV and Bose audio system and DVD player. The kitchen is well equipped and has an island with bar seating and a dining table within a few steps. Everything is within easy reach for meal preparation in the well utensil stocked kitchen.
Sliding glass doors across the waterside of the living area create a window wall of water views and open to the screen porch! The screen porch runs the width of the home and offers outdoor dining or just a great spot to relax with views of the pool and water. Stairs from each end of the porch run to the pool deck. The pool has a rock spill over fountain feature and measures is 29' long by 11' wide (approximate due to the pools contours)
The boat lift is available for guest use, is a great four post lift and will allow you to keep your boat out of the water when not in use. The boating access for either the Gulf or Ocean can't be beat, a dive shop with fuel and bait and tackle is just minutes away.
We believe you would truly enjoy this unique gem in Marathon!
Vaca Cut bridge has approximately 12' of clearance. Guest must sign the lift agreement to use the lift.

My family stayed here for a week. We had my parents in their late sixties, my husband and I in our forties and three children- 12, and 9-year-old twins. This house had the perfect layout for these ages. My parents could be on the main floor and not have to climb so many steps, and the bedrooms upstairs accommodated my immediate family. The updates to this house are beautiful! It appears the whole upstairs has been renovated recently and all furniture seemed brand new. The beds upstairs were very comfortable.
Here are the pros to this house:
-Location to shops, groceries, restaurants and accessibility to the other Keys. We enjoyed the Island Fish Co. several times. Also, the local cuban food is amazing!
-The backyard is stunning! The pool, tidal pool and tropical plants and flowers make you feel like you are at a private resort. I will dream about it for years.
-We saw lots of marine life in the tidal pool, off the dock and fishing was fun from the dock. We saw tons of tropical fish, manatees, dolphins, eels, sharks, etc.
-The porch in the back spans the whole house and is nice, spacious and a great spot to be outside enjoying the backyard all hours of the day from morning coffee to evening cocktails.
Cons
-Main master bed downstairs has a worn out mattress that was not very comfortable.
-Kitchen could use more items. The only drinkware is glass so if you have small children, you will need to buy or bring your own cups. Thankfully we had reusable waterbottles and bought disposable drinks and waterbottles to use around the pool. My kids felt fancy drinking water out of wine glasses at dinner time. By then we had normally run out of the few regular drinking glasses. The kitchen also needs a very large bowl for salads or one pot dishes.
-My dad rented a boat for the week and has a captain’s license. His retirement job is captaining charters out of Hilton Head and he has owned a personal powerboat for over 20 years. The house sits in a place with very fast currents and it is VERY difficult to maneuver a boat in this spot if you do not know what you are doing. If you are not careful or a seasoned boat owner, we would advise someone to not rent a boat for use at this location. You would be better off taking charters or cruises with local companies.
- The current is so strong out by the dock, be very careful with small children around here.
Overall, we had an amazing week and really enjoyed this property! Highly recommend!

This house is beautiful and in a perfect location. It is close to wonderful restaurants, grocery stores and activities. The pool is great. There is a beach area which was great for making a sand sculpture! We did so many things in Marathon-boating, snorkeling, going to the beach from our boat, going to the turtle hospital. It is a one hour drive to Key West which made it nice for people flying in. And it is fun to spend a day in Key West! The tidal pool was a joy for all. We would check it several times a day to see what came in-beautiful fish, lobster, crabs, rays. We saw manatees and southern rays several times going by the dock. Also the dock is a perfect place to watch the sunset. Kitty was wonderful and helpful always. She made sure everything was perfect.

We rented this property for 3 weeks and have loved every day. The house is beautiful and has everything we need. The view is amazing. There is a tidal pool which has been so much fun for everyone. We go out several times a day to see what is in there. It is really fun to go out there at night with a flashlight. Kitty, our manager, is wonderful & responds fast to any questions.

The home is spacious and comfortable. Location great right on the vaca cut. Wouldn’t have felt comfortable docking a boat with the quick currents coming through the cut. Would take a lot of boating expertise. Beautiful and private property.

We stayed for 7 nights and it was amazing!! The location is great. You’re not in the middle of crazy Key West, but can get there in an hour. Marathon is located in the middle and you’re a short car ride to anything. The only downfall is everything closes early, including gas stations. The pool was wonderful. The tide pool was even better!! Made our lobstering pretty easy during opening week!! We had lots of fish in there, lobsters, crabs, octopus, a baby nurse shark, an eel and so many more cool things!! The dock area is great, too. We will definitely book here again!!

Marathon 2022
This is a lovely property. The views from the house and pool area are wonderful. It’s a spacious home, but it’s not currently set up for 8 guests. We brought air mattresses for the kids which was ok, but there wasn’t seating for 8 indoors for meals. Beds need new mattresses and home overall needs a little TLC but if you don’t need fancy, this is a quiet location perfectly located to explore all of the Keys.

This property is AMAZING! My boys enjoyed fishing from the dock and the pool was fantastic. The tidal pool was so cool! The water was so clear and we enjoyed seeing all the fish in it - lots of parrot fish and lobster.

Beautiful spot, loved the tide pool with lobsters and parrot fish. Pool was the perfect size and all the landscaping was stunning. Fishing off the dock was fun for my husband and son. Would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful house and would definitely rent again!
Was a very smooth process, my only suggestion is new mattresses for the two bedrooms. Not comfortable other than that it was amazing!

Very nice.
Very nice place. Caught some fish off the dock. Probably could have caught a lot more if we knew what we were doing. Saw a large sea turtle, lobsters and crabs. Pool very nice.

Vacation Experience
The house was fantastic. Appreciate all of the linens. Did not know there was a pull-out bed in the couch--this would have been very helpful to know in advance. Need dish towels in the kitchen, but otherwise had enough towels and sheets. Appreciate the number of chairs outside, with pleasant and comfortable seating (except for ripped, dirty outdoor furniture on the patio under the house.

Beautiful Location
Property location is amazing being right on Vaca Cut. Boat Lift was perfect, but on an outogoing tide, you cannot get your boat on it, so you just have to tie off the dock w fenders out and wait for tide change, so not a big deal. Tidal pool is super cool as we saw tons of lobster, baby sharks, eels, parrotfish, and snapper in it. House is set up well for families. Beds weren't super comfortable but acceptable. Pool area was perfect and we spent a ton of time there. Furniture is a little dated, but comfortable. We would (and plan on it next year) stay here again for sure and recommend it to others. You're in the KEYS....fancy is not needed and this house is perfect. Also we had no problem parking a 25' trailer and 2 cars on property. Kitty was very helpful in emails prior to arrival and phone call once we did arrive. House was ready at 4pm as promised on Saturday and house was clean.

Screen porch heaven
The pool, beach lagoon, and screened porch were better than described! We loved the privacy in the backyard with the gardens too! We rented a boat for the week and enjoyed the flexibility of the location to get to the Gulf and/or the Atlantic within minutes.

Great location but.
Location and view is great. Property needs some tlc. Cushions on outdoor furniture need cleaned/replaced, upstairs carpet needs cleaned/replaced. Upstairs toilet rus constantly. Master bedroom ceiling fan needs tightened. Master bathroom light switch needs fixed. As was mentioned on a previous post docking a boat can be tricky. Waterfall on pool doesn’t work either. Kind of disappointed with the house for our 1st trip to the keys.

Excellent all around
Our family loved this place. Just off the highway but tucked away enough to be quiet and relaxing. Ocean views were excellent. Check in was smooth and communication was excellent. Other than the beds being somewhat uncomfortable for most of us (to be fair, beds are more of a personal preference thing), everything else was outstanding. I would not hesitate to rent here again, or recommend it to others. I would also agree with other comments that pool heat is definitely worth having in the winter and spring months.

Wonderful Family Vacation
Our family thoroughly enjoyed this house! Minus a few dirty dishes & coffee cups left in the cupboard, this house was perfect. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything needed to make cooking easy. We had one question about the pool and Kitty was right over within minutes to show us what we needed to do. The view from the house was magnificent. This house made our vacation the perfect getaway for our family. We would definitely come back!! A big thanks to the staff :)

Cozy get away
We loved this house! Totally secluded and on the gulf but only a couple blocks from the highway. The house has all the amenities you could ask for. Pay for pool heat. Its worth it! We hope to stay here again.

Boaters beware
We brought the family down for a week this June. We have stayed in Marathon many times before. We have a 28ft offshore boat and a backwater skiff. As most do, we come primarily to fish. We were trying to upgrade this year to an even nicer house and paid over $1000 more for this house than the house lasted year, which had all of the same amenities and was on the Atlantic.
First, let me say that the pictures are deceiving. The house is much smaller than it looks in the photos. Don't expect a mansion. The house is nice, but I was expecting nicer for the money. Also, a huge point that was not mentioned is that the beautiful long dock is basically unusable. Let me say that I am an experienced boat captain. The tides are so strong where the dock is, approx 5kts, that it is immpossible to dock your boat on the lift on an outgoing tide. Also, the dock is extremely high and you will not be able to dock without advanced experience. I say this because when you come back from a day of offshore fishing and a fish box full of fish and you can't dock your boat for 4 hours (after dark) it is just a little frustrating and I think should be noted better on this advertisement.
Other than that, the pool area is nice and the kids liked the tidal pool. Property manager was responsive and offered to correct a sugar ant problem. So if you don't plan to fish, it's a decent house though way too expensive IMO. If you have a boat, it's more hassle and you can get much better for the money.
