About this cabin rental
Locals know about the historic Bare Farm and its beloved Cabin on the River.
Many a wedding party has bumped down the dirt road to witness vows below its stained glass windows.
There have been festivities, a time or two.
Some folks tell the story of a dog that went tubing and a grandmother who parked herself on a lawn chair in the river to watch. There was a grandfather who danced till dawn, went home to feed the cows and hurried back to catch the last song.
Just 3 miles from historic Lexington, the Cabin sleeps 8, with two full size beds in one room, a queen size in the other, and a king size mattress on the floor in the loft.
There's a fully equipped kitchen facing a stone fireplace in the large main room.
There are old iron beds and hand made quilts. There's a glider on the porch where you might want to sit in the mornings to drink your coffee and watch the fog rise off the river.
Some say laughter still echoes through the trees.........
Peace and tranquility: If you are looking for a place to renew your spirit....the Cabin on the River at the Bare Farm is it.

Was really looking forward to sitting on porch and watch the river like the listing showed in picture. Got there the view was grown over, making it hard to see the river. Nice cozy cabin to sit on the porch and look at the trees and relax.

The setting and cabin were absolutely perfect. The drive through the farm to the cabin was beautiful, and we enjoyed seeing the horses and donkeys! We loved it so much that we reserved another 4 nights in October

We enjoyed the quiet and the beautiful setting. We watched the birds in the morning and the deer in the evening. It was incredibly restful after a long drive from Ashville.
We never saw the owners, but their emails and directions were spot on

This cabin is in a beautiful setting, on a grass knoll above the Maury river. There are trails and birds everywhere. The cabin in comfortable, with a large shared kitchen/living area, but in nice weather, you'll want to spend most time on the front porch! We planned on doing more exploring, but the cabin area was too relaxing and enjoyable so we mostly hung out. But Lexington and Buena Vista are a short drive to pick up anything you forgot or grab a bite out. 2 access points down a slope get you to the river. Bring river shoes if you plan on getting in or fishing. We, and our dog, had a terrific time!

Beautiful cabin for a long weekend. We loved the sound of the water from the front porch. We even got to listen to a storm pass through.

Great little rustic cabin with an exceptional view. Stayed here with family and our two dogs, and we all had a wonderful time. The cabin had everything we needed. We sat on the front porch in the morning and watched the river roll by, and played board games in the evening in the screened pavilion. We saw deer and turkeys passing thru the yard. We spent one day walking the Chessie Trail, which winds you thru cow fields - we loved seeing the new calves romping around. Everything was perfect - we are already talking about a return trip!

Very cool, rustic cabin right on the Maury river. Beautiful drive through horse farms to get to property. Very secluded on large acreage but close to Lexington for W&L or VMI visits. Clean and exactly as advertised. Will definitely consider a future stay.

My husband and I brought our son, his wife and their three year old daughter here for a weekend getaway. It was wonderful... so peaceful and what a beautiful location. My granddaughter loved the wide open spaces to run and be as loud as she wanted! My son and his wife taught her how to roll down a hill. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the porch watching the fun! There were so many deer and we all loved seeing the horses as we came through the gate each day. Plus, it was so close to all the attractions we had come to see: the Safari Park and Stonewall Jackson house. Excellent place... highly recommend!

This cabin is an absolute slice of heaven! What a perfect to get away from the daily grind. It was great to disconnect from the world for a few days with our teenagers and enjoy life at the beautiful cabin on the river.

A true cabin on the river experience From the drive down to the cabin through a working farm, to arrival, I can not say enough about how impressive this property is. Very special and truly authentic. A great escape from the DC area to be sure.

This cabin is an absolute hidden gem and I can’t believe we were able to stay there. We easily fit with 4 adults and 4 children without feeling crammed. We spent so much time on the front porch, watching bald eagles and herons and the incredible amount of fireflies that came out at night. The cabin was equipped with everything we could have needed (except a washing machine, and with kids it was interesting but we were happy to make do!). Early morning walks on the paths and the road while the mist lifted off the valley… the entire place is just magical. Lexington and the grocery store are just 10 minutes away with plenty of restaurant options and things to see. We came home relaxed and happy - a true vacation. Highly recommend!!!

We had an fantastic stay at this property! My kids noted this was their favorite vacation they ever been on. The location is nice in that it's VERY private, you have access to the Maury River, and you are not far from local attractions. The extras left at the cabin were a nice touch! We were able to leave our dogs unleashed with zero issues. We definitely plan on returning!

This is such a beautiful property. The cabin is just what we expected. We had such a lovely time relaxing on the porch, watching lightning bugs in the evenings, seeing a skittish doe and her fawn, and observing a beaver near the river. My husband enjoyed fishing along the river, catching and releasing. Such a wonderful, relaxing time was had!

We came back to the cabin after getting engaged there 11 years ago. Everything was just as beautiful if not more. The wildflowers were in full bloom, the river was amazing, and the farm was just as we remember. The horses and cats greeted us on our walk and we smelled all the amazing flowers. Even got to walk around Lexington for a bit. It was just the getaway we needed.

This is our second time at the cabin. It is so peaceful here sitting on the porch or screened in porch (I hate bugs!) which overlooks the river. It is also only 15 minutes from Lexington which is very convenient.

This place was a pleasant surprise! Totally secluded with the river right out front and plenty of land to roam! We enjoyed the supplied games and movies too. The thermostat controlled fireplace was super cozy and kept the cabin toasty warm. Our 14 year old son loved the loft and said it was super comfortable. The town of Lexington was a short 15 minute drive should you want to explore town but there is really no reason to leave the property! We had a wonderful stay and will visit again!

Let's start with getting there seemed like we were in the wrong location and phone number was wrong on vrbo. Once we got there we were greated as the gentleman was there turning on fireplace and making sure we were comfortable. The property was beautiful and well taken care of . My dogs enjoyed there stay as well. I would definitely recommend!

The little cabin was so cute and was just what we were looking for. The privacy and views around the property were amazing. My husband, myself, our two girls (10 and 1 yrs old) and our dog all enjoyed ourselves hiking down by the river, seeing multiple deer, and front porch sitting. The property is even better than the pictures and we will definitely be back!

What a wonderful, rejuvenating, perfect little get-away spot. Comfortable surroundings in the middle of the mountains with a stream flowing right in front of the property. Absolutely private, with a very large yard, screen porch, picnic table right near the water, and plenty of trails to explore. Inside the cabin was inviting and so welcoming with everything we needed. Vicki, the owner, thought of everything for the cabin. We wish we were still there listening to the rain of the roof and breathing the clear mountain air.

Wow! The cabin was just awesome and the pictures don't do it justice! The owner was just great (helpful, pleasant, informative) and the cabin had everything we could possibly need (books, DVDs, TV, music, grill, cookware, dishes, bath amenities, paper products, linens - WOW!). It was private and secluded but close to services (grocery, restaurants, etc); and, it was easy to find. The cabin was clean and well-maintained. If anything, the description understated how nice it is! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cabin! And, we especially appreciate that the cabin is pet-friendly. Our puppy loved the space and running in the front! Thank you so much for a wonderful time! We hope to come back!

This is a wonderful place, almost unique in the feeling it evokes. You travel to the cabin through a large horse farm with views of the lovely rolling hills of Rockridge County and the cabin itself is something which seems to come out of history. The immediate view of the river is striking and there are miles of trails to walk which offer additional views and a variety of birds and wildlife (especially deer). It is very beautiful and peaceful and impressive in a way which gave me a physical sensation. Vicki - and her brother - were welcoming, informative but not intrusive. They were just very nice peole who taught us about their area and made us feel comfortable. I would love to return.

Claims that this special place attracts happiness are well-founded. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I felt uplifted. The sounds are magical, the sights are delightful. The cabin is well-appointed and lovingly decorated, comfortable and spacious. It is close to Lexington, a charming town with attractions for students, historians, and shoppers. My only regret is that we spent only two nights here, but I'm looking for an excuse to return.
