About this house rental
We were honored to learn that Lyle Lovett had been a guest at Casa Vida and had written three songs during his stay. He expressed his thanks in the guest book entry shown that is framed at the house. You will be inspired, too, by your stay at Casa Vida ('Life House'), whose name signifies it's contribution to the lives of our guests. We hope that your visit to Casa Vida will also be a treasured experience, to be shared with friends and family and repeated as often as possible.Casa Vida offers the comforts of home, while immersing our guests in the natural and historical perspectives of the Big Bend region. The house itself, a renovated adobe featured in Alpine's historic home tour, is fully furnished and decorated with authentic pieces native to the rugged, yet refined confluence of Mexican, Texan, and Western cultures that makes the legendary Big Bend Country unique in so many ways.Information below details the myriad amenities of Casa Vida.
Two separate and private living areas, joined by access to the remarkable and fully supplied kitchen, offer ideal accommodations for two couples or a couple and additional family or friends. Bring the friends or grandparents and stay in complete comfort and harmony!
The spacious grounds of Casa Vida offer privacy and ambiance that enhance enjoyment of the views of surrounding mountains and superb Alpine climate at 4500 feet elevation. A quick look at a map and internet info will show you that Alpine is the best home-base from which to see the majestic and multi-faceted Big Bend Country. Let us share Casa Vida-a home that will become a part of your life!

Guests appreciated the unique charm of the property, its comfortable beds, and delightful outdoor seating areas. The location was convenient for exploring the surrounding areas. Overall, a highly recommended stay!

The lock box was confusing; it was hard to open. The key was not labeled as to which door to unlock; the front door lock was loose and antiquated. The back bathroom sink was dirty. The floor around the master bed needs better cleaning and the mattress pad on that bed had a stain that looked like blood. The chairs outside had bird poop on them. The place was charming with all the nick nacks. It would have been nice to have regular coffee provided instead of a decaf coffee. A kettle would be nice too for those who want tea and maybe provide tea bags.

Need to update his profile said had hot tub but none. Nobody empty trash before we got there.

Good location for attending the Lone Star cowboy Poetry Gathering, February 14-18. However, problems were present. The coffeemaker had not been cleaned; filter and grounds were still in the coffeemaker. Several items were left in the refrigerator. We removed the items we took, but left the other items. We purchased toilet paper and paper towels, unaware those items were in the laundry room until we left this morning, February 19, 2024.

House was exactly as described. Owner communication is good. Temps were cold during our stay, and they only have space heaters in the house so it was chilly.
Overall, very spacious, much more than we really needed.
Would be perfect during fall weather to enjoy a fire and the big Texas sky.
Convenient location in town near food, shops, etc!

My wife and I spent 10 days traveling around West Texas. We stayed in this house the last 2 nights. It was our favorite place to stay on our trip. Super clean house in a nice location. Great outdoor areas to enjoy the evening. We loved the fact that Lyle Lovett wrote some songs there. It will be our go to place for future trips to Alpine.

This is a really cute and unique place in a charming town. Lots of room and comfortable beds. Reasonably priced. We had issues with a couple of items not working, but the owner addressed them, and compensated us appropriately for our inconvenience. Highly recommended.

We were there in spring! They have a beautiful cactus garden and several great outside seating areas for sitting, drinking, eating. We thoroughly enjoyed it and did a little cooking and found all we needed.

Lots of southwestern charm in this unique house. The kitchen is a bit cramped but adequate. The yard was very pretty and the neighborhood quiet. Overall a good stay and lots to do nearby.

Casa Vida was a great home-base to explore Big Bend National Park as well as the surrounding area. We drive into the park on two different days. The route from Alpine to the west entrance is especially picturesque. Drive takes a little under 1.5 hrs to get into the heart of the park. The house is charming and has very comfortable beds. We’d stay here again!

Our group of four women found Casa Vida to be charming, well-located, and comfortable. It has great hang-out areas outside. We are native plant enthusiasts so enjoyed the interesting plantings and butterflies that abounded. The house layout is quirky, which we enjoyed, and we had plenty of room to spread out. We were comfortable even with this exceptionally warm September. We enjoyed being close enough to walk downtown and to Saturday Farmer's Market. The mural map was very helpful and most of our group followed the maps to visit as many murals as possible. Other favorite spots: the Century Bar & Grill, Guzzi Up, Front St. Bookstore, and Whitlock Art Studio.

Fantastic Home in a Great Location
We loved our time at this home! This home was our base of operations for our family of 6 for 5 nights while we explored the surrounding towns and Big Bend NP. The home is older and has some quirks but we thought everything was functional, stocked, and comfortable, so for us it was all quite charming. The beds are very comfortable, the swamp coolers kept the house cool, the kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner, and the showers were hot. We loved ending every evening outside watching the stars. The house is just minutes to everything you might need in town, and we fell in love with Alpine while we were there. Thank you to the owner for sharing your wonderful home!

Alpine Getaway
I loved this property! It was clean, and its uniquely funky-southwest/Mexican decor welcomed a vacation state of mind. I was a little worried by the neighborhood when we first drove up.
We had a pop up camper which we could not lock, but we had no issues with theft. The backyard was a dark skies oasis at night. The master bed was great. Per our grown children, the mattresses on the other 2 bed were not fantastic. Overall, it was a great stay and I hope to return.

Beautiful home close to hikes and the town!
Wow! We loved this property. It is really spacious, well stocked, and unique. The decor is so great and we felt very immersed in the Texas experience. The yard and patio are also awesome. The town of Alpine was a great spot to use as a base for our hiking in Big Bend. The host was so helpful and communicative. He gave us lots of amazing recommendations. Can’t wait to return!

Great vacation house!
Great location, very clean, and really enjoyed the outdoors. Be aware of the location because there is a train that stops and it literally cuts you off from town so you will have to wait but other than that it was absolutely fantastic!

Relaxation in Texas
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this property. The only thing that was a hiccup was finding it in the dark, since we arrived after 10pm. The host was incredibly gracious and called back to make sure we were able to find the house and get inside, even that late in the evening. Once we were in and settled, it was such a great place to relax and lounge in. The outdoor space is just as inviting, we spent the evenings outside talking and building great memories with our daughters. We would definitely come back here and would highly recommend! :)

We loved the carport with gate. Beds are comfortable. The yard has several areas to relax in.Property is older than I realized. My wife and I are 75 years and older. We need safety bars in showers. The kitchen needs a new range. The existing one is very old and settings on the oven cannot be read. The utensil drawers hold a Hodge-podge of different items just thrown together and did not look clean. We spent our days away from the house and overall had a nice stay.

Charming and Unique Home
My husband and I came with friends and the set up of the home allowed each couple to have complete privacy. The home was very clean (a must for me) and stocked with the essentials. The neighborhood was a bit run down but very quiet. The patio was a wonderful place to visit and enjoy the cactus garden. Highly recommend this home.

New Year's Celebration
The property is delightful. We especially enjoyed the outside yards. As there was an unexpected eight inches of snow, the yard provided the perfect spot for a snowman and snowball fight.
We spent the week exploring hiking trails in Big Bend and the Davis Mountains. Because of Covid19, we prepared our own meals in the well-equipped kitchen. The comfortable beds provided a much needed good night's sleep.
