About this house rental
Welcome to Callahan, the quintessential 1970's beach house offering sensational views over the Marengo beach and reef. This picturesque property is opposite the beach on the ocean side of the Great Ocean Road. Only 30m walk to Marengo Beach, it is an easy 2km walk into Apollo Bay's township, either along the popular walking/bike track or the beach itself.
This is an older home with a renovated kitchen and bathroom, and provides a central open fireplace in the kitchen and lounge area which opens into a north facing dining and sitting space. Unwind here and soak up the sun during the summer months or cosy up by the wood fire during winter.
Two of the 4 bedrooms face the ocean, enjoying the north sun, and the other 2 bedrooms are at the rear of the property. The main bathroom provides dual access from the master bedroom and hall. The second bathroom is accessible from just outside the rear entrance, making it great for rinsing off after a trip to the beach. The property has ample car parking and a large shed with plenty of space for the kids to play, even on those rainy winter days.

Great view; everything we needed.

The Callahan is a home away from home for us. We have stayed a few times now. It has that old school rustic charm. The atmosphere of a family home comes at you as soon as you walk in. The views are phenomenal and the location to town is perfect for us not too close not too far. Access to the GOR is amazing you are in the middle of everything. If you are ok with the wardrobes being full and living out of your suitcase then you will love it here. For us the hominess and the views far out way the lack of storage for our clothing. We love our time in this part of the world and Callahan makes it more enjoyable. The games, firewood for the open fire in winter and binoculars available to use are a welcome touch. It gives that time to reconnect with your family without all the distractions of the modern world, which for me is invaluable these days. We will be back again. Love, love, love.

Disappointing
We were very disappointed with bedrooms 2,3 and 4. Curtains falling down in one room, and dark and depressing decor in all. Shabby looking quilt covers. A wet towel left on laundry floor. Attention to detail was poor: frozen over freezer, junky ' cupboard ' with glad wrap etc. A hair on the cupboard shelf and in the microwave made us feel like we had to sanitize all surfaces including the heavy plastic cover on the dining table. A very bad way to start a holiday.

Fantastic winter escape!
Our week at Callahan, was far too short! From the moment you walked in it felt like a family home where all were welcome. The fire was amazing for doing puzzles by, the kitchen was family friendly and allowed us all to cook together and the huge dining table was the perfect place for making memories! With an amazing view and location to the beach it was the perfect winter escape!

A cozy get away by the beach
An older style but comfortable house with amazing views and instant access to the local beach. Open fire place is the only real source of heating and there is no dishwasher, but otherwise it is well appointed. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend Callahan to others.

True beach house
This little piece of paradise was just what we needed. Beautiful views to Marengo beach and a short walk to the rocky reef, beautiful in the sun and the rain. The beds aren’t the most comfortable, clean bathroom and kitchen facilities, be sure you take your own frypan and sharp knives. We will come again.

stunning family house - not so friendly management staff
Morengo is such a fantastic place for families. It has a lived-in feeling which made it even more comfortable. Proximity to the beach without any major road crossings made it so easy for the kids to wander down on their own making for a fantastic holiday for us (2 families). The house has a fantastic layout for families. Notable absences are a bath, and reading lamps. The real estate managing the place were not very helpful and pretty defensive when enquiring about covid cleaning. Our holiday in the Callahan house was really fantastic. Thank you to the Callahan family for opening your lovely beach house to others.

Old world charm - on the beach
Callahan is a gorgeous old family home with nice modern trimmings like skylights, bathrooms, downlights and kitchen. A stack of great board-games totally seduced the kids and the views of the beach and the seal colony did it for us parents. The open fireplace just made the whole place even more comfy and memorable. Marengo is wild and wonderful and the people at GORH were great too - really helpful and friendly.
