We loved being embraced by the quiet and the natural surroundings.

Appreciated the ease of communication with the owners. Lovely location.

We had a good stay overall. The internet was sketchy and the guest bathroom lights weren’t working, but we enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable and surroundings were quiet and peaceful. Great location for convenience to everything.

We just loved this cute cabin! No detail was missed with the lovely decorations. The cabin has everything you will need, a full kitchen, two bathrooms with full size tubs/showers. The two bedrooms are a very comfortable size. You will really enjoy your visit to this little cabin in the woods!

We were not sure what to expect of a century-old cabin but were not disappointed. Great location a short drive from downtown Highlands, quiet, secluded, surrounded by rhododendron and tall trees. Enjoyed relaxing on the front porch.

We had a delightful stay at this cottage in the woods, a peaceful, quiet and relaxing ambience with pretty walks at one’s doorstep. It was amazing how many amenities were fit into this compact space. Two double bedrooms, two full baths with tubs, a large kitchen with washer, dryer and a comfortable living area to sit and relax. The kitchen was well equipped such that we ate in as often as out. The comfortable beds made for a restful nights sleep. Everything in its place, it was perfect.

We have stayed at The Roost several times. We love the location. Cottage is cozy and comfy.

Very rustic and small but exactly as pictured.

We had to check out two days early. I became very ill and due to existing health issues we had to go home to be close to my kidney dialysis care team . I am in the process of filing a claim as I bought the travel insurance through VRBO. We’ll see if it’s any good. Also, I am asking the owners here if they would consider a partial refund.

We really enjoyed our trip! The property lived up to our expectations!

This sweet historic cabin was perfect for a relaxing 50th wedding anniversary! We took full advantage of hiking, exploring Mirror Lake and experiencing Highlands wonderful cuisine. We did not want to leave!!

This is a great cabin close to town, we very much enjoyed our stay. Mirror Lake is a beautiful spot and the cabin is very well kept and nestled in a comfortable setting.
The property owners/managers were fantastic, they communicated very quickly and clearly.

There was only 1 half roll of toilet paper and a few sheets of paper towels in the house - we came in late and had to go buy those items. It would be nice to have at least a couple of each item already there!

Very comfortable, private cabin with screened in porch. Wonderful for Summer getaway.

Our stay at the charming cabin was idyllic and memorable. The location is ideal, nestled in the forest and near to Mirror Lake. It is also conveniently located and just a short drive to restaurants and shops in the town of Highlands.
The cabin in well furnished, comfortable, quiet, and contains all the creature comforts for a pleasant stay. I highly recommend.

Great location. Nice easy walks from the cabin. Friendly neighborhood. Quiet. Would love to come here regularly for an escape from the city.

Cabin was cozy but parking was difficult especially after a tree fell in back of our car. The walkway was a little slippery on the way in but other than that it was ok.

Very easy process

Small space but set up well. Enjoyed our stay

Accidentally Locked Ourselves Out
We accidentally locked ourselves out of the cabin while having coffee on the porch early one morning. The property owner came over right away to let us in.

So relaxing and quiet!
So relaxing and quiet! A great retreat and place for us to come and decompress after a busy day. Really enjoyed the front screened in porch. Saw a beautiful black bear walk down the driveway. Great walk around Mirror Lake! Thank you so much!

Wonderful cabin! Thank you.

This little gem of a cabin was the perfect retreat for my husband and I to unwind and relax. We spent most of our time in the living room curled up with a book or watching Netflix, enjoying the warmth from the fireplace. The overall space is quaint and cozy and very comfortable. The cabin is tucked in a dense forest of mountain laurel, so even though other properties are close by, we felt secluded. Mirror lake is just steps away, and the strolls around the winding roads that surrounded the lake were super refreshing. The property is only about a 2 min drive into downtown Highlands which made this the perfect cabin in the woods experience for us... We loved our stay here and look forward to our next visit!

A Happy Holiday
This quaint rustic cabin was the site of a very welcome Christmas getaway. The property is secluded and private, yet conveniently located close to downtown.
The cabin was clean, the beds were comfortable, the gas fireplace functional and warm, and the kitchen was supplied with everything we needed to keep ourselves holed up for the Christmas weekend.
We would definitely repeat a stay here.

I have so many positives about our stay: The owner was quick to reply and accommodate our requests during our stay- anything from needing a flashlight to walk our dog at night to getting a space heater for the 2nd bedroom. She was wonderful and very prompt. The cottage has a screened in front porch which adds to the living space; 2 full updated bathrooms with showers and tubs, plenty of towels and paper products (most places we have stayed only give you enough for the first day or 2); stocked kitchen; extremely comfortable beds; enough seating for you and your guests in the main common space and lots of closet space. My only recommendation to the owner would be to add keyless entry. Having to carry a key around was a little bit of burden and made me nervous of getting locked out. Also, the fireplace is wonderful but if you use it the rest of the house gets extremely cold so you need to make sure you have the space heaters in each bedroom if you plan to use it. The location is fantastic but with a toddler walking into town was not an option since there aren't sidewalks for the majority of the road; but it's a quick 2 minute drive. Staying in the mountains as opposed to the main strip was our preference so this didn't bother us; plus, there are so many places to walk near the cottage and enjoy the beautiful scenery. If you booked your stay here you won't be disappointed... in fact, your friends will be jealous!

Everything was clean and convenient and well stocked. The cabin is pretty dark. Needs brighter lights in almost every room. It was a nice place to stay for our 3 day trip

Roosting at “The Roost”
Great location, met all our basic needs. A few maintenance items the owner might not be aware of - bathroom faucets drip constantly, faucet fixture in master bathroom very loose, and the odor of propane from the fireplace was very strong, requiring us to have doors open for ventilation. Also, an outdoor light above the front entrance on the front of the cabin did not work (burned out bulb?) and it would have been helpful to use that light at night.

Loved the all old wood cabin. Loved the front porch, and rustic furniture. The cabin needed a detail cleaning. Over all stay was good.

Great location and just as described
This was a perfect location for our stay. My boys and I fished most of the days on the nearby Cullasaja River while my wife enjoyed the shops of Highlands. Great stay for all of us. The cabin was cozy and tucked in to a very quiet neighborhood. The only tricky part was the parking. The driveway is a bit narrow and the covered parking is not suitable for tall SUVs.
