About this house rental
Enjoy this custom-built home in a charming neighborhood within easy walking distance to the Takoma Metro. There is something special about this house, its spaciousness, its open layout - it invites good times and a relaxing place to be after a day in the city.
The house is wonderful; all the rooms are very large, with hardwood floors, high ceilings and lots of light. The huge kitchen with island and open breakfast room is easily the center of the home. Everyone loves to gather here. Right off the kitchen is the family room with French doors that take you out to a deck, where you can sit under 200 year old oak trees. This room has the TV, which you can also see from the kitchen. The gracious, separate dining room and inviting living room give everyone a place to spread out or to gather and entertain.
The primary bedroom with king-size bed has an adjoining, all-windowed office that has been turned into a separate smaller 4th bedroom. It now holds a cot, a foldout-small couch, and a pack -n play/crib. The two-room bath has the largest jacuzzi tub you've ever seen. The other two bedrooms offer restful spaciousness, with queen-sized beds, reading nooks and plenty of closet space. They share a recently remodeled bathroom at the end of the hall.
This house would be perfect for one family; extended family; 3 couples, or two families with children. Montgomery County has placed a limit of 6 adults, and up to 5 children.
Enjoy coffee on the front porch, or barbecuing on the back deck, or lounging in front of the TV. The openness of the house makes it an easy place to cook and share great meals, relax, and enjoy each other's company.
All amenities are provided, including: linens, fully equipped kitchen, flat-screen TVs, comfortable furniture on the front porch and back deck, w/d, central air. Guests have access to all parts of the home except the basement.

We are on a quiet street, near two parks and just two blocks from the heart of Old Town Takoma. It's a less than 10 minute walk up the street to the center of town, which has several great restaurants and fun shops. There's everything you need to make your trip enjoyable and easy. The celebrated Takoma Farmers Market is on Sundays.
Go two more blocks from the center of town to catch the Takoma Metro. A straight walk from the house takes 15 minutes. If you'd rather drive up, there is a large parking lot at the station. The Metro train ride to the beautiful Union Station is just 10 minutes. You can be at the White House, the Mall or the National Gallery in less than 25 minutes.
There is a very nice couple living downstairs in an apartment the ground floor. Please be considerate of noise. We have assured them that guests will be especially quiet between 10pm and 9am. Thank you!
Please park in the gravelly area at the side of the house, just near the side door, where there is room for 2 cars. If you have more than 2 cars, you must park any others down on Westmoreland Avenue. Please do not ever park on First Street. If you have visitors, please tell them this.
If you are using the washing machine, please don't load it too full. It seems to want to stop mid-cycle if loaded more than about 2/3 full.
We are not allowing any parties or gatherings at the house. If you have any guests at all over to the house, please let us know, and please be sure to let them know about the parking and the apartment in the basement.
Please also let us know if you are planning on bringing a pet. The charge is $50/stay/pet.
Please leave the house in the condition you found it. Empty the garbage/trash in the kitchen and take to the garbage cans that are outside the mudroom door in the pen to the left. There are also bins for recycling outside.
NoN need to strip the sheets from the beds, just make sure we can tell which ones were used. Please leave all used towels in one big pile in the laundry room. If you can start a load of wash for us, we would REALLY appreciate it --- especially if we have guests checking in the same day that you leave! Thank you!
We hope you enjoy the house as much as we do when we are there. Our neighbors are quiet and respectful, and we hope to keep everyone happy about having a short-term rental in the neighborhood!
We do have live TV, but not full on cable; and both of our TVs can stream HULU, Netflix, and Amazon Prime.

This was the perfect retreat after spending the day in the city. A little walk to the metro but the hike and the neighborhood was exactly when we were looking for. The neighborhood is perfect for families or groups looking for a quaint quirky vibe.
The home was well stocked and comfortable and we were able to make all of our dinners there.
Our oldest didn’t want to leave and this home was perfect for our family vacation.
If we find ourselves back in the DC area,
We will certainly try to book our stay here again!

Susan was a great host and offers quite a nice house that slept 6 adults 5 children and a toddler.
No fault of the host, but the Takoma Metro stop was out of service, which easily added 20 minutes to our commute into DC.
The host was gracious to buy a pak-n-play crib for our toddler.
A few details kept our stay from being 100% comfortable, but these are easily fixable.
Some light bulbs out. Some switches didn't work. Bedroom curtains were not light-blocking. Kitchen faucet drips. A few members of our party were suffering bug bites at night.
It is a nice house, though, with several nice features. Plenty of space. Nice floorplan. Outdoor porches are great! 15 minute walk to town.

Gorgeous large Takoma Park house! Very well equipped, comfortable beds with room to relax! We like to cook and found the kitchen very well equipped! The off street parking is a big plus too! I would definitely love to come back!

Enjoyable stay overall. Well-maintained house, quiet neighborhood. However, the squeaky bed in one bedroom led to a restless night. On the bright side, the host offers lots of amenities.

Spacious, well-appointed home in a neighborhood very close to DC. Lots of conversation areas, a big kitchen, and a large front porch with lots of seating. Nice!

We absolutely loved the house, location and proximity to Takoma Park and subway to downtown DC. The house is huge- plenty if space to spread out and having the ability to walk to the subway was a huge plus. Very clean, very comfortable and well stocked. We’d definitely stay again.

House was immaculate and spacious. The place was a perfect retreat after a couple of long days. Nice neighborhood but close enough and convenient to town and events.

My husband and I stayed here along with our dog for over a week. We loved hanging out on the front porch and the back deck in the beautiful fall weather. The neighborhood was all decked out for Halloween and it was fun to walk our dog in the pedestrian friendly neighborhood and see all of the spooky decorations. We utilized the well stocked kitchen to make a roast, a pot of chili and brownies and slept well in the super comfy bed in the master bedroom.
The Red Line Metro is about a 15 minute walk away or you can drive there and park in the lot on site. Takoma Park is a lot of fun with numerous restaurants and a Starbucks within walking distance. There is a Farmers Market on weekends which is a lot of fun. This is a great place to stay if you want to be within reach of all that DC has to offer, but want to say in a quieter neighborhood. We picked this home because it was pet friendly, but we would definitely like to stay here again even if we left our dogs at home. Thank you, Susan, for sharing your lovely home with us.

The house is huge! We had some trouble with the TV and WiFi password but Susan got the new WiFi password to us ASAP. Then she facetimed and tried to walk us through TV setup. She did end up sending someone in and we were able to watch the baseball playoffs.
Very responsive!! Thank you Susan.

The house was spacious and well stocked for us and our guests in a lovely Takoma Park neighborhood convenient to everything we needed to do before and after the wedding. Most of all, it made possible more time to relax with loved ones than would be possible if we were all in a hotel. We had great support from the owner.

We rented the house as a launch pad to DC. The house is beautiful, well appointed, very big, spacious rooms (especially the master), 2.5 baths, nicely decorated and in a great neighborhood. Just 5 minutes from the Takoma Metro that takes you right into DC. Takoma Park has nice restaurants and shops. Susan, the owner, was very available when I couldn't figure out the NEST thermostat (I have an old fashion one). We will definitely stay here again if we return to DC area.

Quiet neighborhood and spacious home allowed our family to relax after visiting DC for the last two days. Easy access to the metro at Fort Totten allowed us stress free travel to and from the city.

Some rentals feel like a rental. This one felt like a home that had been loved and cared for. In the DC area a lot of the older homes have narrow hallways, small bathrooms and tiny doorframes so if anybody in your group uses a walker it can be very challenging. This house is spacious in every way - the master bedroom and bathroom are ginormous - and even the door frames are wider. Yes the bedrooms are upstairs but a good solid handrail is helpful for multigenerational family trips. And an added bonus - one of the most kind, communicative hosts imaginable. Thank you, thank you. We'd love to come back.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. The house is significantly more spacious than it appears in the pictures, and had everything we needed for a weekend stay.
The kitchen was fully equipped and large. The master bedroom is HUGE. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 kids. The neighborhood is wonderful as well. Quiet, walkable to the little downtown area with some restaurants and shops. Would definitely recommend and will consider staying again if we return to the area!

Lots of space, quaint neighborhood
Beds were comfy, had lots of space and kitchen was well stocked with all cookware and utensils! Appreciated that it was dog-friendly and walkable street (front grass was plentiful but a bit scarce on the rest of block). Access was an issue since the keyless entry wasn’t working when we arrived (wouldn’t have been an issue except it was raining heavily without an overhang). We got in through front door’s keyless entry. Owner was very responsive about the issue but battery was not replaced while we were there. Some other recommendations- fix LED display on microwave (no number display), update wifi info on listing (different from info on sheet in house), simpler instructions for TV usage.

Love the house! Love the location!
We LOVED staying here in Takoma Park. Perfect walking distance to some great restaurants including Takoma Beverage and Roscoe's Pizza as well as a small park for my son. Also plenty of interesting shops in walking distance. I spent hours lounging on the porch, and to be honest, was more content there than sight seeing in DC. The porch has the perfect amount of privacy while still giving a view of the neighborhood. Appliances all seemed new and were very clean in the very spacious kitchen. The owner has gone to great lengths to decorate with an antique style that is very charming. We really enjoyed our stay here and hope to return in the future.

Family Gathering
We stayed in Takoma Park the week after Christmas 2021. We chose this place because it had easy access to the Metro station and ample space for myself, 2 adult daughters and 3 grandchildren. The listing was accurate and we had plenty of room and comfortable sleeping and bathing arrangements for all. The kitchen has nearly been completely updated, except for the cook top, which the owner mentions needs to be lit with a match or lighter. This can be intimidating for anyone who has never had to do this before. I grew up in a house where the stove had to be lit like this, so it didn't bother me, but my daughters were tentative, but figured it out. The bedrooms were clean and comfortable, the neighborhood was quiet and felt like a very safe place to be.

Can't say enough about how great this place is! Spacious, comfortable, great location, has everything we needed. Metro stop an easy 15 minute walk away. We loved being here and would stay here again in a heartbeat. We travel a lot and this is hands down the best rental we have ever stayed at.

Trip to D.C.
Our family had a wonderful stay here for our trip to D.C. A couple of blocks from the metro was perfect. We rode the train into the city in about 15 minutes. It was easy and effortless. We enjoyed the close restaurants by the house. We ate at several of them on our way back in and they were all really good. we ended the day relaxing on the front porch with a glass of wine. We even had a visit by a local deer! The house was roomy and comfy for our family of 5. I would highly reccomend.

We traveled to the area for NHD at the University of Maryland with our four young daughters. This home, neighborhood, & experience was incredible! The home was very spacious, quiet, & comfortable. We walked to the town square for the Sunday Farmers Market, & ate most every evening at several of the unique restaurants. The Metro was an easy walk & was our primary source of transportation. We enjoyed front porch sitting, the blooming magnolia tree, & an on-going competitive game of Monopoly all week. Thank you Susan for opening your home to our family!

This place was amazing!
My husband and I stayed here with my brother and his family and it was great. The place was clean, quiet, and had everything we needed. We spent our days sight seeing in DC and the evenings sitting on the front porch drinking a glass of wine and watching the neighborhood go by. It was a family friendly neighborhood and everyone we met in town was friendly. If you stay here you must eat at Mark’s Kitchen. It has the most eclectic menu we have ever seen and everything we tried was delicious. There’s something for everyone. The metro was about a 15 minute walk away and very convenient if you don’t mind a few hills. We would stay here again and highly recommend it.

great house, great location, comfy
This house is super convenient with a short walk to the cutest little town with several great restaurants and shops and the metro stop. We loved the house and would have gone 5 stars but there were a few little inconvenient issues that I'm sure this very responsive owner will have fixed by the next guest so don't let this review discourage you.
