About this cabin rental
High Hemlock's stunning finishes and unbeatable in town Highlands location make this 2 bedroom/2.5 bathroom cabin the perfect spot for an upscale mountain escape. Professionally designed with thoughtful touches at every turn, you and your guests will be able to unwind in privacy without ever being far from the action.
The Location: High Hemlock is located within the Highlands town limits near Harris Lake and behind Mountain Fresh Grocery. This is an area where locals come to walk/jog because it's a on a rare flat loop that is a quick 1/2 mile jaunt to Main Street, where all the shops and restaurants are located.
The Property: High Hemlock is located on a 1/2 acre fenced and wooded lot with a small mossy side yard. Hemlock groves, thick, old growth rhododendrons, and maples add privacy from the street. There are 4 rocking chairs on the front porch that are perfect for bird watching or listening to the peace and quiet or the occasional church bells.
The Cabin: As some of our renters once said, "walking into High Hemlock is like stepping into a Garden & Gun spread." Open the creaky screened door to the subtle smell of firewood and the rhododendrons blooming beside the front porch. The cabin is flooded with natural light. Finishes include all shiplap walls, wide-plank hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings with antique wood beams, local slate tile, and the original 1940's Wolf range in the kitchen.
The Layout: From the front porch, guests enter into a large open space that houses the living room with wood burning fireplace on the right, and the dining room for 6 on the left. Both ensuite bedrooms are off of the main living area (one with a king bed and the other with a queen bed). The galley kitchen is to the far left behind the dining room wall and looks out onto the side mossy yard.
The Area: Highlands, NC is the premier mountain destination in the Southeast. Lined with shopping, dining, museums and galleries, the bustling mountain village centering around Main Street is straight from a Norman Rockwell painting. Previously a summer/fall hotspot, it's quickly becoming a year-round destination. At 4,118 feet, it's one of the few temperate rain forests in North America, bringing botanists and nature lovers from all over the world.
Highlands is also a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. With an abundance of opportunities for biking, hiking, horseback riding, tubing, canoeing, fly fishing, and whitewater rafting, adventure-seekers will not find a more beautiful backdrop.
The Details: The living room and both bedrooms have flat screen smart TV's and standard cable channels. We also have wifi. All of the bedding is memory foam- we understand everyone has their preference, but we get lots of compliments on our comfy beds. The kitchen is stocked with general kitchen essentials. All of our cabins are pet friendly with prior approval and a nominal pet fee.

This is our sixth year of renting at high Hemlock. Each year we’ve added onto our stay and this year we stayed for a month with our two small dogs. We love the location, which is a short walking distance Into town as well As the privacy of the lot surrounded by hemlock trees, as well as a lot of other natural landscaping
Kristy’s decorating is spot on for an upscale mountain cabin and she continues to add things every year, which make it better and better.

High Hemlock is located within walking distance of downtown and a serene lake. How often do you get that? The interior is stunning, comfortable and inviting. We had everything we needed and found the owner to be responsive and helpful in answering our questions. Would we rent again? In a heartbeat!

This was our third stay at High Hemlock and it’s still as magical as before. We love staying here and feel so recharged by the time we leave. It’s convenient to town but feels like you’re alone in the woods. We’ll be back I’m sure!

Very walkable into town and the photos are exactly what you experience. There are a few steps up into the house and while there is another property behind the house, it felt very private. We enjoyed the proximity to town, the fireplace and even though we didn't use it very much: the channel line up was impressive. The beds were cozy and it seemed like there was limitless hot water.

We loved this cabin! It was perfect for a family winter mountain weekend. We enjoyed ice skating in Highlands and the Polar Express in Bryson City. We left with full hearts. Thank you for opening your home to us!

We totally enjoyed our stay at High Hemlock. It is a beautiful home with everything you need for a relaxing get away. The cabin is in a quiet area and close to all that downtown Highlands has to offer. Our two dogs loved romping in the fenced yard. The mountain themed decor was comfortable and lovely. When we return to the area we will definitely rent this cabin from Kristy again. She was very responsive in every way.

Incredible property! Just a fun house and so so close to downtown. Front porch is gorgeous and so is the surrounding foliage. No reason not to book this house over and over!

20 degrees cooler in Highlands than back home. Thoroughly enjoyed High Hemlock’s front porch, the hiking and this trip we booked a Highlands Excursion Adventure. Our favorite place to rest and recharge.

My husband and I were very pleased with our stay in the High Hemlock cabin. The cabin was stylishly furnished and had everything one needed. The interior looked new and meticulously clean. The bed was comfortable with soft sheets and warm quilts. The kitchen has all you need to prepare meals, with higher end cookware and knives. We particularly enjoyed the spacious porch with rockers. We definitely would choose to stay here again.

This trip was for Mother’s Day. Whit asked me what I wanted for Mother’s Day and I said 3 nights at High Hemlock. We have stayed in this lovely cabin many, many times since 2015. I book it regularly for the week of my birthday because that is where I want to be. Kristy is a gracious host and takes good care of us. High Hemlock is cozy, peaceful and well appointed.

We loved this two bedroom 2.5 cabin. It is 10 minute walk from downtown, but is perched on a hill and feels like it is in the mountains. The place was spotless. We enjoyed the fireplace and using the front porch in the evening.

We’ve stayed in many places in Highlands over the years and this is now one of my favorites.
The house is beautifully decorated, clean, and comfortable. We especially loved the large fenced in yard for our four legged family member. We can’t wait to stay here again!

This house is perfect, for a stay while in Highlands. The feel of the house helps set the tone while in Highlands. The decor and architecture of the house is up to date and appears to be professionally done. Just a note: When we stayed in the house the temperature in Highlands was in the 30’s so it was rather cold for those of us from Florida, so we had to use the heater in the house, The bedrooms got nice and toasty but then the common area was probably 10 degrees colder. Once I closed the fire place damper, the house temperature evened out (some one will say, duh).
I would definitely stay here again!

I have a broken bone in my foot, and did not ask about the trek from car to house. It was long and steep, but my partner did not mind at all. There is no view, but downtown is very close and, despite my problems walking, we had a wonderful time. A very nicely appointed house.

Home is in a perfect spot as it is isolated and quiet but convenient to town-it’s easy to pop down the street to grab dinner, shop, etc. We arrived in the middle of a storm to find the power out! Despite that, we enjoyed wine and cheese with a fire in the cozy den our first evening. Would highly recommend this location for a couples getaway or girls weekend!

Any of Kristy’s properties (which I’ve stayed at all of them I believe by now) are absolutely perfect!
They are all very comfortable and stylish and in great locations.
High Hemlock is just the right amount of space for two couples or a small family .. great location and the additional half bath really does help for a small group.
You are nestled among the trees, but not even a mile from town which is so convenient.
Terrific in every way, nice kitchen, comfy beds, extremely clean and TV’s that are easy to use!
Easy, fast communication …. never have any problems when we stay there.
Always sad to leave Highlands and Kristy’s houses.
We will return!

We made our first trip to Highlands in 2015 where we rented High Hemlock from Kristy. We have booked it many times since then. It has become the place we go to rest and recharge. It’s the place we reconnect with family and friends. If I need extra space I book the Adirondack Cottage next door. They are both so cozy and comfortable. We love being able to walk to town for breakfast at Mountain Fresh, or to hike up Sunset Mountain, or for a spin through the Botanical Gardens. Kristy is a superb host. She is accessible and quick to respond to any question or request. I booked our next stay the day I got home.

We had an incredible time in The Highlands. We absolutely loved this property. The customer service was spectacular. The home was cozy and clean. The decor was like something out of a magazine. The location was perfect. We walked into town to get coffee and to amazing restaurants. We can’t wait to come back.

This is the second year in a row we’ve stayed at High Hemlock in early February. We’ve seen snow on the ground both years, and really enjoyed being in Highlands during a quieter time of the year. The cabin is quickly becoming one of our favorite vacation spots. There’s everything you need for a short or long stay, it’s dog friendly, and you immediately feel at home thanks to many small touches throughout the house. The kitchen is impressively stocked and ready for any kind of cooking or baking you’d like to do, and the books, fireplace, TVs, and internet make it difficult to want to leave the house. While being within walking distance of town, the cabin feels very private and makes it easy to disconnect. Definitely recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed High Hemlocke! We had two couples and two dogs and the perfect amount on space. The cottage had pretty much everything we needed and was a quick 1/2 mile walk or ride to main street. The porch with the rocking chairs is very relaxing and the living room and wood burning fireplace is very cozy. The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and the bathrooms are updated and spacious. Great place for a weekend in the Highlands.

The cottage is in a great location close to Main Street & all the restaurants/shops. The decor has the perfect mountain cottage feel & loved every detail. Perfect size for two couples, each bedroom has private en suite. Owners respond promptly and provided great service.

We rented High Hemlock the first time in 2015 and we stayed for a month. We have rented it several times since. High Hemlock is high-end cozy and comfortable. Kristy is a wonderful host. What we love most is that we can walk to town….to Mountain Fresh, to shopping, to dining, to Sunset and Sunrise Rocks, to the Botanical Garden, to the Wine Shoppe. If our family wants to join us, we rent Adirondack Cottage next door. It’s another gem. Our next stay is already in the books.
