Lovely cottage, owners were easy and kind to work with. Access to the cottage required walking past barking dogs that charge a low fence - worth noting for anyone who may need to know this prior to arrival. While the cottage is *quaint*, it is in need of significant maintenance - namely the bathrooms. The upstairs toilet flooded multiple times even with very careful, thoughtful use (minimal thin paper, etc). We had to lay towels down just as a precaution. There was no hot water in downstairs bath without rummaging for a valve to initiate the hot water faucet. We also had to deal with some pesky gnats upon arrival and the full duration of the stay. They greeted us upon arrival in the kitchen and never left. I can’t stress enough how lovely the owner was to work. Hopefully some updates happen soon - we would absolutely book again after that takes place!

This cabin is OLD. But in the best way. It has original detail, with some modern amenities. While I personally thought it was charming, I could see how others might not. Aesthetically, the owner has excellent taste and everything worked together. But there were areas that could use some maintenance/updates. We personally struggled with the door handles and locks, as they were all original and clearly very old. The location was quaint and peaceful, and an easy walk to the beach (for my able bodied family).

We loved the location of this cottage. It was perfect for our family, with enough space for everyone. S’mores treats left for us were wonderful. We enjoyed our stay.

This is a great cottage for large families with ample room to spread out. However, as soon as we walked in the door (after struggling to enter because the door was locked with no key instructions) there was an overwhelming mold smell. There are also 3 out of 5 bedrooms with no blinds or curtains which was a little uncomfortable for changing as you lock eyes with people on the deck next door. There is a large fenced area on both sides of the house which was nice but in desperate need of some weeding and cleaning. I’m pretty sure there was poison ivy growing around the house. Nice fire pit area and new grill. The kitchen had lots of serving pieces and drinkware, but no potholders, dishrags or dish towels so no way to bake or keep things clean without purchasing your own supplies. The cottage had some plumbing issues and the host was very responsive and got someone out right away to take care of it. Overall this cottage was a nice size for large family gatherings but is in desperate need of some TLC

The good: very lovely view into the hollow behind the cottage. Five-minute walk to the City Beach. Trails through the woods right behind the cottage. Five bedrooms. Decent beds, lots of beach toys and kitchen supplies. Dog-friendly cottage and neighborhood. Air conditioning. Nice fire pit. Washer and dryer and laundry soap provided. Dishwasher. Materials for s’mores kindly provided by owner. Lots of DVD’s.
The bad: Pricey rental. Only two parking spaces though the cottage sleeps 13. Slow toilet upstairs. Dark living room at night—one feeble ceiling light and one low-watt floor lamp for a very large room. No good outdoor eating area—just grungy picnic tables in the undergrowth in the yard. Upstairs deck is full of sticks and leaves, railing looks rotten in places and has large gaps (I wouldn’t let kids up there) Shaky deck furniture. A lot of chipped/peeling paint.
The ugly: can’t close the front door very well, only the screen. Doorknob falls off. A ceiling light fixture fell out of the ceiling while we were there and was hanging by the wiring; we contacted the owner, send a photo, and he said he’d better get someone out to fix it—but no one ever showed up.
You might be on your own if there are problems at the place, which is a concern when you’re paying around $4700 a week.

This cottage was perfect for our family … roomy enough but also cozy. So easy to walk to the beach, the pier and downtown (& Musical Fountain). They provided all the things we might need, including beach chairs and blankets. We would stay again !

Well stocked kitchen! Nice big dining table and comfy main room. Upper porch is awesome and firewood available for evening fires was appreciated!

We had a nice stay. The house was adequate for our needs and was wonderfully close (3 minutes) to beach. We liked the nature trail near the house and also was pleased with everything the house provided. We are concerned with potential mold around kitchen faucet and wooden counter tops. Front door lock needs to be replaced. We couldn’t lock door from outside house, only from inside, lock and key are old and key could have broken in lock so we just left house unlocked, which is how we found it upon arrival. It would be helpful to have written instructions about house rules provided upon arrival and a good phone number for property management. We noticed ants in kitchen, not bad but present. Blinds are needed upstairs for privacy. Amenities provided were great, as was dvds, games, beach stuff, Netflix, firewood and fire pit and s’mores!! If you address the concerns, you will bring in more business 😀

Always great house. Great owner too.

Oven did not work
Upstairs bathroom sink very slow to drain. That is a real problem when 7 of our guest stayed upstairs. Master bed old and lumpy. Window sills filthy , like never cleaned. Found some happy spiders living upstairs. These things made for a very uncomfortable stay. If you choose this home I would be sure to address these concerns with the owner. I did on the first day and he said he would get his maintenance guy out. That NEVER happen.

We had a great week at Cory’s property and were all very happy with our stay! A quick walk to the beach every day and this home is stocked with everything you could want for the perfect beach day. We stayed here with a total of 9 people in the house (4 kids) and loved that we had all the space we needed and more! My only wish is that we had more parking so our other family could come over and visit during our stay and enjoy a fire outside with us. This place was a total gem.

It was clean with easy access to the beach. We enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend it to anyone considering a stay in Grand Haven.

House gets plenty of shade to stay cool. The yard and house could have been cleaner but it wasn’t bad enough to make us not enjoy ourselves. Overall a nice older house in a nice neighborhood.

We’ve been coming to Grand Haven for 60 years and it is one of our favorite spots in the world. The location is great. Walk to the beach or walk the Mulligan Hollow trail to town! We loved everything about the town. Great shops and restaurants, and lots of ice cream stores! The house is charming. Comfortable and clean. Beds were very comfortable. Perfect sleeping weather. The central air did not work real well but we really did not really need it because the weather was ideal!

Plenty of sleeping arrangements for all of us! Nice areas to hang out! Was cool and rainy so did not use any of the outdoor spaces but they looked inviting.

We had a great time with 8 friends and family staying at the home. It was awesome to have easy access to the beach on foot in under 5 minutes and Grand Haven is a great place for summer activities. We also enjoyed the nearby access to footpaths through the dunes.

The house was spacious for our family, we enjoyed the fire pit, hammock and gardens and the perfect place to unwind. Cory made it inviting and we loved the beach chairs!

Cory has a beautiful cottage and wonderful neighborhood that dates back about 130 yrs ago. You definitely feeling like your camping and getting close to nature in this cool historic area by the beautiful beach of Grand Haven. The house was equipped with toys, movies, beach supplies! Kids had blast and wanted to stay longer. Can’t wait to return again soon. Thank you.

Great location just a few minutes walk to the beach and about 20 minutes to downtown Grand Haven (by foot).
The cottage is quaint - it has all the amenities you might need. It could use some TLC, but overall comfy with good beds except the 2 twin mattresses could use a topper. Overall, a great relaxing trip.

Great location - house needs improvements. Both outside doors were broken during our stay (handles fell off!) so we couldn’t ever close or lock the doors.
We alerted the owner and sent pictures but didn’t hear back.
Also- out door shower broken- won’t turn on, so no rinsing off from the beach. Definitely needs some tlc.

We have been staying in Grand Haven over 20 years and have never had this lack of communication with an owner. Communication was great while paying but never heard from him again after paying. The contract he sent me was for someone else from 2014. He said he would be in touch when our trip was coming up to let us know how to get in and we never heard anything even after sending emails asking for arrival instructions. Luckily the house was unlocked. The house was pretty dirty inside. Very roomy and close to beach. Great neighbors all around. Then Friday around 2am we had severe storms with 91mph winds come through that actually took someone's life across the road in Highland park. Big trees and limbs were down, wires were down and power was out. I called the owner to tell him about the damage and to let him know he would need a chainsaw to clean up his place. I also sent an email just in case he didn't get the phone message and still never heard anything. Obviously I know the storm wasn't his fault but just expected some kind of communication back since it was so severe. We also wanted him to know because of the next renters coming in a day later. We packed up and left that morning since power was going to be down until probably Sunday night.

2nd time a group of 6 adults have used this house for meetings - and will again. So quiet that one sleeps better here than at home! Everything works, the rooms are comfortable in size (first floor is particularly generous) and convenient to everything.

What a great house! Lots of space and so cute. The owner is fantastic and very easy to work with.

My newly wed husband and I were looking for a relaxing escape for a few days to recuperate. The cottage was perfect for this! Everything was clean and orderly. Only a few minute walk to the beach and there were nearby wooded parks for walking as well. Parking was very close to the house. I would suggest having an umbrella if it is raining. The outdoor shower with hot water was great for rinsing off feet after walking along the beach.
2 Quick Suggestions:
1) Putting trash bags in the bathroom trash cans. I didn't search through the cabinets to find trash bags so I am not sure if there were any. But I put old grocery store bags that I had in my car in the bathroom trash cans. I always try to consolidate all our trash before leaving into one bag for easier clean up for the owner. Trash bags also means that hopefully the actual cans don't have to be cleaned out so frequently.
2) Disposing the used bars of soap in the shower. We brought our own toiletries to use, but we thought it was odd to see used bars of soap in the shower.

We had a short but very sweet stay at, Mary Anne. Nice location, very close to the beach and even closer if you don't mind a steep trip down the sidewalk. It's a loved and well equipped home. The stairwell to the upstairs is a bit treacherous, but that can be expected in a cottage of this age. We loved it and found it perfectly accommodating. The owner was very kind and helpful. I would consider renting there again.

We've stayed at this sweet cottage several times over the past few years and enjoyed each getaway. For families vacationing together this cottage is just perfect offering both hikes in the woods or lazy days at the beach. Can't wait till next year!
