With two weeks passing since alerting management, several attempts for some response and an amicable resolution with Guest Services and management have fallen on deaf ears, hence poor review
1-Basement, Laundry Room and Bathroom
-damp and mildew smell, no dehumidifier
-Extension cord running entire width of family room for a fan in laundry room. Safety hazard in an already damp basement
-Laundry room linoleum curled up around drain, walls, under utility sink
-Fan cooling laundry room
-water conditioner is leaking mat serves as receptacle for drainage
-Basement Bathroom shower curtain liner was mildewed, ripped. At our expense purchased new liner
-Dryer is vented into bathroom through exhaust fan
2-Second Floor-Living Room, Kitchen and Bathroom
-Sofa end table clearly not dusted for quite a few weeks
-All Ceiling Fans had cobwebs and weeks’ worth of accumulated dust. Kitchen fan was worst
-Kitchen stove after oven door handle fell off.
-2nd floor bathroom smelled of urine and floor was dirty and dusty. There was no mop, used flip flop and disinfect spray I brought with 3 cleaning attempts failed to rid urine smell
Kitchen-oven door handle fell off followed by oven door coming apart separating metal and glass. Had to "tape" door onto front of stove
3-Dock is safety hazard. Cinder block to “step” onto before reaching dock. Worn AstroTurf carpet with mold and slim. Granddaughter fell and came within inches of hitting back of her head

I was disappointed in the house we stayed. 2 of the bedrooms really weren't up to code as they had no windows. There was some sort of leak in the basement where 8 people are supposed to sleep. It smelled wet, musty and very stinky (cat?). We found a dehumidifier and it helped but keeping an eye on that was a pain. When i called to complain, they brought damprid and a can of fabreeze.

I liked that this property had a lot of the 'big ticket' stuff covered within - plenty of bedrooms, great HVAC, and a ton of smart TVs with reliable wifi. That all was very nice and appreciated.
However, there were problems that were nuisances to our weekend. The bathrooms had no hand soap, there were no paper towels or trash bags, and we were only given 1 dishwasher tablet...so basically, we were forced to go shopping of supplies I assumed would be essential to the rental property. We also only got 3 rolls of toilet paper, 1 for each bathroom, for 3 days and 10 people. That was another unexpected purchase we had to make.
Lastly, as other reviews have mentioned, the angle of the steep driveway is awful. Of the 6 vehicles that used the driveway, 5 bottomed out and scraped while exiting. I'm not sure if anything can be done to improve that but if you drive a low car or even suv, you WILL scrape, guaranteed.

DO NOT RENT THIS HOUSE IN WINTER unless you have both 4wd AND about 50-60 lbs of de-icing salt on hand. Have never seen such a steep driveway, & it was coated in about 1" of ice under an inch of fresh snow. House had been cleaned after last renter but probably left empty for some weeks. Runoff from parking area pours straight down driveway; it had frozen & snow had fallen on top. Even w/small SUV & 4wd, military driving training, 3 years of living in Moscow (Russia), & four decades of experience driving on mountain roads in winter in WV, when I tried the driveway I got almost to the top, lost traction, & slid back out into the road (fortunately no traffic, & I got traction & cut the wheel before we shot over the other bank & into the lake). Steps to entrance & deck were also coated in thick ice w/snow on top. Maybe it was a foolish assumption on my part that Taylor-Made Vacations would check the property & clear serious safety hazards before guest arrival?
Leaving my 85yo mother alone in the car at the bottom of the driveway, I made my way to the house & found one 11lb jug of de-icing compound. Started to try to scatter it, fell, hit my head on the driveway, & slid the remaining 10' down the hill to my car.
Called the property management number. They quickly sent out a maintenance man who put down another 30lbs of de-icing compound. He got his pickup up the bank safely, came back down, picked my mother up physically & put her in his truck, drove her up, & then came back to drive my car up to the parking area. Because the outer steps were unusable for an 85yo with limited mobility, we. brought her in through the basement door. After she had a little cry—the slide out into the road had terrified her—I was able to get her up the steeper, less safe interior stairs from the basement to the main floor.
The next morning I called to ask for someone to finish clearing the driveway, parking area, and exterior stairs before more family arrived. No one came. I inched down the driveway, went to Ace, bought 30 more lbs of de-icing compound, & spent a few hours of the 1st day of my vacation clearing ice off the driveway, parking, and stairs myself.
The rental contract absolves Taylor-Made of any liability for your person or property due to accidents on steep driveways or access areas around the house. Fortunately, I have a hard head.
Other than that, the house was in excellent condition & was perfect for our family get-together at Thanksgiving.

Mountain House Memories
Pretty nice. Kitchen was well stocked. Kids loved the water & the dock. A ladder would have been nice. The trail to the dock was a bit rugged. We all had fun and that's what counts.

This house needs updating
The path to the dock was treacherous, no hot water in upstairs bathroom and the bathroom lock was broken, our 8 year old granddaughter got locked in. No cold water on main floor bathroom and basement bathroom tub cracked and felt like you were gonna fall through it. For the price we paid go elsewhere!!!!!!!

Relaxing place to spend the weekend.
The overall was a good place to spend the weekend, as is mentioned in other reviews the lake access wasn’t proper for the handicapped and older people.

Presentation is better in pictures then in person
The house was dusty’,full of cobwebs ,carpets were stained and not vacuumed. The cleaning crew did a sloppy job of cleaning. The downstairs had a damp disgusting smell, it needs several dehumidifier. The driveway and hill to get too and from the lake is extremely steep. Really should state for people in good shape. I felt as if I was having a stress test every time coming back up that hill from the lake. The hot tub was nice and the dock was nice. Overall I would not recommend or stay here again

Snow needs to be shoveled and plowed
We arrived after a 4 hour drive to find the driveway, deck and everything else not shoveled or plowed. The pictures online do not represent the house or property. Definitely a bait and switch. One of our parties couldn't get up the very steep driveway with a 4x4 and had to walk their luggage up and icy driveway, falling multiple times. The deck hadn't been shoveled all winter. There was so much snow on the front deck, it was blocked off by a bench, but the hot tub was open underneath. The hot tub looked like it was installed in 1974 and the jets didn't work. So basically we had a tub of hot water.
If you are going to put your house in a rental program, act like it. I will never stay here again. Total waste of money.

Good time / handicap & elderly concerns
The pictures of the property & path to lake are a bit deceptive. There is a steep hill/grade from property to lake which was difficult for elderly & handicap members of family. Otherwise we had a nice time

Great location and value
The location was great and though a bit dated, the house was a good value for 5 bedrooms. Cleanliness inside of the house was ok, but the deck and exterior spaces were covered in debris and spider webs, so we had to do some cleaning out there. Beds also weren’t very comfortable and basement was really damp, but they did have a dehumidifier running. Overall we were happy with our stay.
4.0 / 10.0
Lack of management
Upkeep poor. Not clean, vacuums bags full, dirty areas, jacuzzi not maintained as written, cobwebs inside and outside house, basement mold smells need to update pictures and rewrite descriptions of property.

Fall Weekend
A group of friends and I had a great time this weekend. The house was just far enough away for us to enjoy quiet evening and close enough to restaurants and stores to enjoy ourselves. Great location!

Great Setting for Family Fun
We had a great week at Mountain House as an extended family of 12. The property was well-designed for such a group, and was well-maintained. The kitchen was suitably equipped, and the dock was reasonably accessible. The property is a 12-minute drive to the state park with its sandy beach, and was generally convenient to many destinations in the area. A ladder on the dock would have been helpful.

Enjoyable vacation
This was a great location for our group of eight. The home is well equipped and very comfortable. The dock is just a short walk and a great place for fishing or swimming, and we docked our rental boat there. There is a large dining room table that is great for board and card games in the evening and an expansive deck - great for reading or just relaxing.

DCL
Overall, the place was nice. Old and somewhat dated but comfortable. We were told the house had an outdoor grill which it did, but looked like it hadn't been used in years, so we ended up buying our own charcoal grill since we had planned on grilling several of our meals. Although the house was dog-friendly, the neighborhood is not. Other than driving somewhere, you have to walk your pet on the street which is not safe. Narrow roads and cars that fly by. The private boat ramp was nice but slippery to get to b/c of previous rain. The basement also had a very musty unpleasant owner, which previous renters had mentioned. Having said all that, we did enjoy ourselves, just having family together for a vacation. The Lake is beautiful and there are things to do within close proximity.

It was okay - thought the appointments could have been updated.
This was our first time at Deep Creek. The house was sufficient for our needs. The kitchen was a little small when you are trying to make a Thanksgiving dinner. Loved the windows and the fireplace in the living room.

This 5 bedroom house was ideal for my extended family — including 3 teens— to stay and explore Deep Creek Lake. The deck was a perfect place to watch the sunrise. We also enjoyed gathering in the great room for meals, to play games, and to have a good time. The driveway is a bit steep, which can make it tough to get out of. Also, the path to the Lake and dock is pretty rough and only good for those who are sure footed. Overall, it was super and close to what DCL has to offer!

Rental was enjoyed by entire family, close to the lake and all activities, which meant a lot since there were several young people. The property's general condition was satisfactory, clean and company very professional. I'm still waiting for a charge cord which was left and was told it would be mailed.

I am Sai Krishna living in North Carolina. Recently graduated from Hood College, MD. Staying for 2 nights with my group of friends at Mountain House was a part of my Graduation celebrations. For me and my group of friends, this was a new experience with vacation home rental and initially was worried about the process, cost and amenities there. As a surprise, our Check In and Check Out process was pretty simple like plug-play kind of thing. Though the property looks deserted and scary in the woods but we liked it and the property was clean inside and outside, it was green with awesome scenic view. Also we found a bear walking in the neighborhood. Amenities inside were little old but handy to use without much cleaning. Main hall TV was not the latest one and should have provided with hdmi cables too. Outside there was a grill setup which seems like it was not used since long time and was in a dirty condition. We feel like the property should also have outdoor fireplace. In 10-15 mins drive there are lot of adventure, water activities to add more fun to the trip. Overall our experience was great and we enjoyed staying.

The property was cosy and clean. I especially enjoyed the crisp, high quality sheets. Our group did a lot of cooking over the weekend and were pleased to find the kitchen stocked with excellent cookware, knives and serve ware. The internet was a tad spotty on our third day, but we were able to get by. The only true downside was that the rental company told us the property had a hot tub, which it did not have. Otherwise we had a great experience and would recommend.

Reviewer Comments:
Our group had a great holiday weekend despite not being able to use the basement of this home - there was a strong musty/mildew odor, accompanied by a strong bleach smell, which we assumed to be what was used to try to clean the musty/mildewy odor. We kept the door to the basement shut the entire weekend because otherwise the smell spread to the rest of the home. While we had a small group and did not need to use the two bedrooms in the basement, I cannot imagine how anyone would be able to due to the smell. A few members of our group are allergic to mold, and had sinus issues within a day of being in the house. Other than the smell, the location of the house was nice, and it was other wise clean. The kitchen was well stocked with cooking items and utensils. We did not contact the company during our stay about the smell because we wanted to make the best of our holiday weekend, and we knew from checkin that there were no other houses we could move to even if that were an option. We did contact management afterward and they offered a $75 coupon toward a future rental. While we appreciated the gesture, it's not much compared to the $1400+ we paid for the rental. We strongly recommended to the rental agency that they either re-evaluate the rental price, or alter the occupancy to not count the basement rooms, as we could not see how anyone could sleep in the basement with the odors as they were. However, the rental agency indicated that the house had been rented all summer with no other complaints, so we're not sure what happened to the house before we arrived - hopefully it was a temporary issue that's been resolved.
