About this villa rental
Villa Colibri (Hummingbird Villa) is situated in a quaint, guarded community nestled amongst a jungle setting 300 meters from the exquisite Blue Flag Beach (Blue Flag is a world-renowned eco-certification for beaches and marinas) of Playa Bejuco. Don't be surprised if you find yourself alone on the beach during your morning shell collection stroll. The view of the ocean waves with a jungle back drop goes on for miles. Amazing! Even though you have this stunning secluded beach within walking distance from your Villa, there are at least 7 restaurants, (2 ocean front) a spa/hair/nail salon, a gym a small mini mart and a large grocery/liquor store within walking distance. Villa Colibri is a perfect location to explore the many waterfalls, rivers, estuaries and mountains surrounding the Pacific Coastal area. Horseback on the beach, ATV tour, ocean view zipline, white water raft, jump into refreshing waterfalls, take a monkey boat tour or catamaran/snorkel for the day, ocean kayaking and more. So much to do and see before coming home to Villa Colibri and your private pool and fully stocked outdoor kitchen and dining/living area. Pool and beach chairs, boogie boards and pool toys are available for your enjoyment. Inside you will find a fully stocked kitchen, dining area and living room with TV as most love to live outdoors when in Costa Rica and we are happy to provide that opportunity!
The outdoor living area has two 5-speed fans to help keep you refreshed when you are not in the pool. The outdoor kitchen is fully stocked when settings for 6 (another 6 settings are in the interior kitchen), thermo "coconut" glasses to keep your drinks cool, pots and pans, utensils, microwave , BBQ (you will always have a full tank as we have a back-up ready to go!), toaster, fridge, 2 burner hotplate, blender and more. Our coffee cart will have all the coffee mugs you need as well as a coffer maker. There are many electrical outlets in the outdoor area for your technology or other gadgets. The inside kitchen also has a toaster oven, stove, oven, fridge, 2nd coffee maker, 6 additional dinner settings, wine glasses, utensils, and more. The custom designed outdoor dining table is created from a local wood and has 6 chairs. We also have 3 additional stools and another 4 dining chairs if you require more seating. Relax on our 5 pc outdoor living area directly under one of the 2 fans. (you will be sooo happy you have these fans!)
Our property is surrounded with beautiful tropical plants hecilonia, hibiscus, bird of paradise red ginger plants, palm and banana trees and other flora) and is fully gated on either side of the house. We have seen monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws while relaxing in the pool or having a coffee or drink under the rancho. Depending on the tide, we often hear the ocean waves in the early morning and evening and the different species of birds singing throughout the day is wonderful.
The master bedroom has a king sized very comfortable bed with an ensuite bath with double sinks and large shower. Walkout from your master bedroom sliding glass doors to your private pool and waterfall oasis! The 2nd bedroom has a queen sized very comfortable bed with a large window looking out to a banana and palm tree. There is also a single blow up bed if required for a 5th person. The 2nd bath also has a large shower. There are 4 air conditioners but most will use them at night to get a good nights sleep as the real living is outdoors! (NOTE: Electrical is on top of your rental. The cost will depend on whether you use all air conditioners all the time, or you conserve as you would at home. A $250 deposit for 7 - 10 or a $600 deposit for per month for monthly rentals will be collected upon arrival and the meter read when you arrive and when you leave. Deposit monies not used will be returned upon departure.)
There will be parking for a small to mid sized vehicle in front of the Villa. (The owners have access to the garage)

The community gated/guarded and is small with wonderful neighbours The cobblestone streets are lined with coconut trees and other tropical plants. There is a community pool and have your own personal oasis right outside your bedroom door!

Overall nice and enjoyable. Everything i needed and maybe a little more. Enjoyed the pool every morning while the sun was out then would head out to do jungle adventures. Seemed to make the best of the weather during the rainy season.

The owners are very good with communication. The live above the house, but keep to themselves. We never saw them, but it was nice to know that they were nearby if you needed them. They added many special touches to make the house very welcoming to their guests.
The house is so accommodating and has anything you can think of. I especially liked having a private pool. The beach is very walkable. Being a little bit away, you don't hear the waves, but it's so easy to walk to. I made several trips per day.
It was also nice being able to park the car in the garage.
The only thing that I think is important to know is that the water pressure is not real strong, so we never got a hot water in the shower.
We plan to return! It is a great house and wonderful owners. There are guards for the neighborhood and we were very impressed with them also.

Just wow! Amazing accommodations, well stocked, spotless clean, wonderful location in a gated community, walk to one of the most beautiful beaches ever, a private pool, garage, washer/dryer...what else could one ask for?! We had the best stay! Lori and Carl were incredible hosts! They let us borrow umbrellas which we forgot to pack and personally guided us to a place to get local seafood. They stocked the house with plenty of water, fruits, coffee, bug spray and a full suite of towels, kitchen supplies, etc. This was one of our favorite vacations of all time! Recommended local activities, sites, and day trips: Playa Hermosa (South), Rainmaker Project, horseback riding in Jaco, Mira Mountain (near Jaco), El Toledo Coffee Farm, Mangrove Boat tour and snorkeling near El Manuel. If we had a re-do, Arenal and Mistico were amazing, but the drive was way too long. Also, El Manuel, the park proper, was too touristy and overcrowded. It was an unpleasant experience. Loved our time in Costa Rica! July was a perfect time of year, as there is still plenty of sun time most days and there are fewer tourists. Thank you, Lori and Carl for your hospitality!

My husband and I had a nice time here, it is VERY quiet and does require a drive pretty much anywhere you go. There are a few dinner spots in the area. The pool is really nice and the beach is beautiful. Be prepared to buy your own coffee, water, shampoo, conditioner, etc. as there is nothing provided by the owner.

We had a wonderful stay. Everything was as advertised.
Some small problems were immediately addressed.by the owners who were very responsive and friendly.
We love the Playa Bejuco/Esterillos area. This was our second stay in this great area.
The entire area is peaceful and friendly. Long walks on the beach every day. Very close to Jaco, Herradura and Manuel Antonio - so many places to visit. Bahia Ballena a must visit also.
Don’t forget to visit the beach bars on your walks if feeling hungry or thirsty.
We stayed for 16 days so did a lot of our own cooking. Kitchen set up was great. The Maxi Pali and Supermega were nearby in Parrita. The Supermini was a quick walk. We don’t recommend the Good Market in town center for grocery shopping. We had credit card issues and other charges /concerns. This was just our experience there - only commenting on our experience.
We would not hesitate to stay at this home again.
Of note, a small condominium project is being developed nearby. Seemed like the heavy duty work should be completed shortly but might want to inquire.

Villa Colibri was well maintained , clean and well stocked. The rancho and adjoining pool were outdoor living at it’s best. A short walk took you to a beautiful five star beach.
Good restaurants were within walking distance as well as a grocery store. Great location with superb weather and , our hosts, Lori and Carl were terrific.

We had a great 2 week stay at this house in Bejuco. The house is nicely decorated. The private (high wooden fence) patio is special. It has a nice swimming pool and an area to have your morning coffee (pot on patio) or an evening dinner outdoors. Has outdoor fans and lighting for effect.
The location is away from the busy Jaco and Manual Antonio so its nice to get back when visiting those areas. There is a plaza nearby (2 minute drive) offering 5 or 6 different types of restaurants to choose from.
The beach is flat that provides an easy daily beach walk or whichever you wish to do.
We highly recommend this house and location.
Carl and Lori are perfect hosts. Thank you.

From the moment we booked to the time we left, Carl and Lori were the perfect hosts. They responded quickly to any questions we had and made us feel like family when we arrived. The location of the community was perfect, five minute walk to the beach and a ten minute walk to the little mall which included many restaurants and an ice cream shop. Their home is beautiful with vibrant Costa Rican colours and everything you need for your stay. We are already looking at coming back next year, but for a longer time. Nothing but excellent things to say about our stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this Casa. We only stayed 3 nights, but wished we could have stayed longer. Lori and Carl were great at communicating with us, giving suggestions along our travels. I really was impressed with the booklet they provided before arrival with so much information about the area. The property itself was just amazing. Very clean, well cared for, completely stocked with everything that you could possibly need while staying. The pool, patio, and hammock were great places to relax after a day of touring and beachgoing. on the patio there was even a little hummingbird nest with a couple of eggs in it, and mama bird protecting it. The caretakers, Deb and Deems were wonderful to talk to and visit their cafe up the street, and they offered info on what turned out to be the highlight of our trip - a private tour with the "father of the monkeys". This casa has multiple A/C units making it very comfortable at night, not to mention the very safe atmosphere with the security guards and small community. Thank you again for renting out this unit. I hope to be back again soon.

We spent a wonderful quiet week in this home. Very well stocked for home cooking, very close to the town center which has a grocery store and several restaurants. Bejuco beach is a great walking beach to spend hours walking and picking up shells. Having your own private pool is top notch as we spent many hours just floating. The great outdoor area/kitchen to enjoy coffee and lounging was a super bonus while my wife worked and I sat in the pool:) Great WiFi access! Overall awesome experience, very quiet and secure neighborhood. Super easy to check in and out. Very friendly and helpful neighbors. If we come back to this area of CR, we will definitely stay here again.

The house and outdoor space was better than advertised. We were very comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy our time in Costa Rica. The property managers, Deems and Debbie were very accommodating and friendly. We really enjoyed getting to connect with them. They were extremely helpful in so many ways...helping us with directions, planning excursions, finding places to eat and many more. Pura Vida!

This property was convenient for our family to access a wonderful beach, grocery shopping, dinning and many other attractions within the area including Jaco and Quepos, with a car rental. Having a contact within such close proximity for checking in and out is helpful.
The property had all we needed to prepare meals and do laundry as needed. We were able to enjoy local fauna while relaxing in the covered, and fan cooled back area. We felt safe in this area, and in this home. We appreciated staying here, rather than a resort or hotel and felt Bejuco was a nice combination of local people and visitors.
We did feel that the third couch/pull out bed was not so comfortable for our 15 year old son, as it has a metal bar that went across his back. I do not feel this would be at all comfortable for a couple, as the home does note accomodations for 6. Overall had a wonderful stay.

This is an awesome house in the perfect location! Went with our 5 year old son and couldn't get him out of the pool! Everything you need and then some! Property manager and owners bend over backwards to make you feel comfortable. They helped us get transportation from the airport, a last minute rental car, and everything they recommended us to see was awesome! Hope to come back and stay again!

I came to Costa Rica to write and “bird.” I literally was able to do both at the same time during my month long stay at Villa Colibri. I feel totally blessed that I discovered this property.
This is a very well stocked “home away from home” full of all you need to live here day-to-day. The two bedrooms are lovely, with the main bedroom having a sliding door that leads to the outdoor “rancho.” There is a den with a couch that, in theory, could be slept on by smaller people. This is a lot of house for a solo traveller especially when you consider I rarely go indoors.
Why am I rarely indoors? If there is one area of the villa that the listing doesn’t do justice, it is the patio or “rancho.” I basically lived out there; if there had been a hammock out there, I probably would have. My day started early with me sitting in one of the comfortable outdoor chairs, sipping coffee, working on my manuscript with my laptop on my lap (the wifi was great), and my camera in front of me on a tripod. There were days when I hardly got anything written because of all of the different species of birds and lizards distracting me. It was like living in an aviary - one with a sink, a fridge, and a barbecue.
If I needed a break to recharge and/or cool off, the pool was right there. While it has a small surface area, the deep end is over six feet deep.
The villa is so lovely, you could probably spend your entire time inside this quiet, gated community. However, you’ll need to get to the beach. It reminds me of Long Beach on Vancouver, Island or Cannon Beach in Oregon, except with fewer people and the water that is amazingly warm. No wet suit required here. Playa Bejuco is 870m from the villa down a well marked gravel road. Once you are on the beach, you can literally jog barefoot in soft sand for what looks like kilometres in either direction. While the surf is “expert” because of the straight on barrel break, the secondary break was a blast for this rookie bodyboarder. It is no wonder that this “hidden gem” is a popular destination for Costa Rican families from the Central Valley.
No review of the property would be complete without giving a shout out to Debbie and Deems, the property managers for the community who literally live across the street. These warm and helpful expats did an amazing job of getting me settled and making sure my stay was optimal. They are the reason to select this development over some of the others in the area.
