About this house rental
Enjoy what nature has to offer in this quiet but active resort island on Virginia's Eastern Shore. The atmosphere is a relaxed one yet there is an extensive amount of activities for vacationers. From surf, bay or offshore fishing to kayaking, sunbathing, bird watching, hiking and biking nature trails, picking clams, oysters and crabbing for the famous blue crabs in the surrounding waters. The Island is home to many well-known painting and decoy-carving artists and has a variety of craft shops for browsing and taking home souvenirs.
La Maison Bleue is a contemporary home centrally located 1/2 mile to downtown and 2 miles to the Assateague bridge and beach road. It is nestled in a quiet setting overlooking a pond teeming with ever changing wildlife: herons, egrets, mallards, ibis, kingfishers, skimmers, killdeer and more. You may witness a brood of ducks dropping from the nest guided to safety by their mother. Screech owls have nested in one of the two nest boxes in past years. The colorful kingfisher visits the pond throughout the day for its meals. We often see deer strolling around the pond from our living area.
Our favorite room in the house is the gourmet kitchen with upgraded amenities: SS double oven, dish washer, side by side refrigerator and 5 burner gas cook top invite you to create your delectable recipes while sipping on your favorite beverage. French doors lead to a well appointed screened porch. Great for dining, reading or just observing wildlife in and around the pond.
Sunbathe in privacy on the large exterior deck or relax on the ground level patio in the shade of trees. Refresh yourself in the enclosed outdoor hot shower after a day at the beach. Prepare your catch of the day at the cleaning station and BBQ your favorite food or steam fresh caught crabs, clams and oysters on a large gas burner. Enjoy the outside deck or screened porch and reminisce about the day's events while being serenaded by the sounds of nature's creations.
The spacious and bright living room has floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pond giving a feeling of outdoor living. Relax on the very comfortable leather sofas and enjoy your favorite show on the High Definition TV.
The open floor plan connects the living room with a formal dining room. Dim the chandelier lights and enjoy a memorable dinner with friends and loved ones while listening to your favorite music with our docking station for your electronics.
The Master bedroom has a private bath with shower, and a closet organizer for your belongings. Dream in a California king size bed sheets or read in a comfy leather chair. A lovely crib is also available for your infant child. In the morning you will likely awake to the quacking of ducks waiting for a handout of corn. (Corn is provided in a container under the house).
The guest bedroom has a queen size bed with a firm mattress for comfortable sleeping and a closet organizer.
The study/bedroom features two twin size beds and a queen size convertible futon bed to accommodate all guests. The corner desk for your laptop will facilitate keeping in touch with friends and family with Wi-Fi internet access. A bookcase is filled with books and games and an HDTV for you pleasure.
The second full bathroom is shared with these two bedrooms.
The full size washer and dryer will serve you well at your convenience.
Keep cool with covered parking under the house. The spacious area around the house can accommodate several vehicles, a boat trailer or kayaks.
A secured storage room under the house is for your bikes or other personal belongings. Crabbing lines and nets are there for your use.
We and our assistant Joyce look forward to hosting your vacation on Chincoteague. Please contact us with any questions you might have, and we welcome your review after your stay!

Enjoyed every minute of our stay. The host was so easy to communicate with and always responded promptly.
The house is amazing
Clean, spacious, plenty of linens, paper products
If you are thinking about booking it do not hesitate. We saw wildlife off the screen porch

This was an amazing trip! The island, the wild ponies and the people were fantastic! Did a boat tour with Daisy's Island Cruises and had an amazing time - highly recommend! Saw dolphins, bald eagles and got super close to one of the Chincoteague pony herds!! Amarin coffee was superb with delicious croissants! Got to watch the tropical storm come in from the beach at Assateague - the waves were incredible! Now for the house...in one word - spectacular! Everything was clean and well cared for. Had everything needed for cooking our meals and the coffee left by our host was an unexpected and special treat (also the wine, which we didn't drink). Loved having the bicycles to ride around town on. Had coffee every morning on the screened-in porch while listening to the birds singing and looking out over the little pond. This place is so peaceful and relaxing. Bill and Kathleen were wonderful at communicating with us when Tropical Storm Ophelia was headed our way - being inland, all we got was wind and rain, but could tell the storm surge had been high when we were out and about the next day. So... that's a big plus for the location of this house!! Definitely recommend and we will definitely return!!

We stayed at this property the last week of September 2023 . This home was amazing the owners went above and beyond to make sure guests had everything they needed and not. The kitchen was well stocked. It had everything you could want in a kitchen and more from ample spices, condiments in the refrigerator, dishes and appliances galore. The check in and check out process was super easy. They provided books, about the island. Binoculars, bicycles , beach chairs, flashlights, and all kinds of extras to make your stay comfortable. The home was spotless and well cared for. The home was both private and had easy access to everything. This is definitely the best home we have tented from Vrbo. I will definitely go back again and rent this property! Thank you for your hospitality.
They even left us a wonderful welcome gift.

This house is beautiful, full of everything you need for a great beach vacation, and perfectly located central to everything but still quiet and peaceful! We had the best time here and are planning our return for next year!

Property was so beautiful location was perfect. Very very quiet peaceful settled into nature. The house is very easy and livable. It was within minutes everywhere. We wanted to go by car and also easily walkable to the events for the pony swim. If I ever come back, this is the kind of place I’d like to come back to.

We couldn’t have asked for a better place to relax for a week with our family! Big thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Wenker for being quick to respond to questions and other things both during and after our stay. The location was perfect, with easy access to all amenities around the island! And having the beach gear easily accessible was a huge bonus, too. Thanks again for everything!

This is a very nice home in a quiet, peaceful, and beautiful setting. The home is clean, comfortable, and very well appointed. All modern conveniences are accounted for, and the kitchen is very well stocked--much more so than most other vacation rentals. The beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms are nice. The screened porch, and other outdoor spaces, are highlights. The house being situated on the pond, and surrounded by trees, makes for a peaceful, lovely experience. We highly recommend this house and expect to return.

We have now stayed here twice as a family of five and will definitely come back. It's in a great location on a secluded little pond. The spacious kitchen comes stocked with every cooking utensil/appliance/dishware/pot/pan you could ask for (and good quality), the screened in porch (and non-screened in porch) bring beautiful sunsets, and it's very kid-friendly with lots of games/toys/highchair/sandtoys/bikes/crib. Thanks for a great stay.

All of us (three sisters) loved the house. Everything was exactly as pictured in the listing. Many amenities were provided, including an unexpected bottle of wine and Virginia peanuts on arrival. We would absolutely recommend this property.
One detail you may want to consider with larger parties - the listing shows three full bathrooms. One of these "bathrooms" is an outdoor shower stall next to an outdoor toilet stall, which had not been cleaned in a while.

We loved this property. It was perfect for our family (5 adults and one baby). Great location. We spent a lot of time in the screened-in porch which was conveniently located right off the kitchen. The house came with just about anything you could think of - that would be needed at the beach, including child locks for the kitchen cabinets. The high chair was very helpful also. We have been coming to Chincoteague for over 25 years - and this was probably the best house we have stayed in yet. Thank you for making our vacation wonderful!

This house was perfect for our group of 5 adults and a 10-month-old baby. In particular it was great not to worry about the infant crawling and falling down any stairs while inside. And the fact that there were baby proofing supplies on hand(!!) was very much appreciated.
The house is located in a quiet nature filled area that was very quiet and serene. This was something much appreciated as we all came from city living sites.
Two things to pay attention to: the bedrooms get stuffy at night when doors are closed. A fan is all that would be needed to address this problem and, indeed, one fan is available. Second issue was the outdoor shower that only had hot water available - no way to cool it down except to turn it off completely. But the owner has been informed and so this might have been attended to.
It felt so luxurious to have many beach chairs and umbrellas (plus the screw-in anchors) plus sand toys and floats all provided and in good quantities.
Lastly, somehow there were no mosquitos for the deck sitters except for one time right before a storm.
Warning: be aware that some restaurants that offered carry out during the earlier days of the pandemic no longer do so (AJ's in particular). We wrestled with the decisions about what to eat only to be told that carry out was not an option once we placed the call. sigh

We were very pleased with the property! It was better-equipped than any other places we stayed. In addition to kitchen wares and household items, this place also included things needed for the beach, fishing, crabbing, and bicycling. Overall, the home was very new and beautifully and comfortably furnished. It was located in a quiet neighborhood easily accessible to the amenities on the island. Our family of 8 loved the screened-in sun room and spent each morning and evening enjoying breakfast, supper, and games there.
There was one unforeseen maintenance issue, and the property owner worked to have it resolved faster than we could have expected. We would definitely consider renting this property again!

This is a beautiful house for a family vacation! Really safe for small kids, and not having to bring a crib and high-chair was so helpful! They even have toys and games for the kids to play with when they get bored of all the ones you brought ;) The house is immaculately clean and very nicely kept. The location is very close to Maddox st, where you can find lots of great shops and food, and it's the road onto Assateague. We loved our stay!

The house was very accommodating for our size family….well equipped, clean, spacious. We especially enjoyed the outside screened in porch. For us, the only downfall was the slow internet when logging into TV streaming services for our grand toddler.

Thanks SO much again to Bill & Joyce. Your gorgeous, immaculate home is just another little sliver of Chincoteague heaven. You once again made our weekend absolutely perfect and the house was an ideal backdrop to introduce my kids to the magical world of Chincoteague Island. Our son, who is on the autism spectrum, transitioned seamlessly into your gorgeous space and he felt right at home gazing at the high ceilings in your living space and feeling safe in your cozy crib. We all slept beautifully and had an amazing time! I cannot wait to book you guys again for another birthday getaway in September if 2023!

We stayed in the off season (pre-Easter) and found many places closed on the island. The bike rental place (Bike Depot) nearest Assateague was open, though, so we borrowed the 2 bikes provided at the house and rented 2 others at Bike Depot and explored.
The house itself was clean, had everything we needed, lots of space for families to spread out (3 bedrooms, living area, 2 large decks) and is in a good location. During regular/summer season I think it would be perfectly situated because it’s tucked in a quiet neighborhood, but close enough to drive (or bike) anywhere.
I would definitely recommend this place for friends and family.

This is property is designed to enjoy its pond location and sunsets. The screened porch is a wonderful feature free from the mosquitos that also enjoy Chincoteague. The expansive windows bring sky views inside. The attractiveness of the house also includes comfortable beds and child friendliness. This location while private is also centrally located to enjoy all aspects of Chincoteague.

Stayed here with another family and enjoyed the slower pace of Chincoteague island. The house is great, has a functional layout and lots of natural light. We spent many hours on the screened in porch after kids went to bed. Kids liked feeding the ducks. Lots of nature all around - kids liked feeding the ducks on the pond.
The kitchen is large and has everything you’d like for your stay. Garbage disposal isn’t great so be careful with what you need to throw in trash before washing dishes in sink.
Only 4 out of five stars as there was a hair on top of one of the bedroom pillows (threw pillowcases/linens in wash upon arrival) the rest of the home was very clean!
We would stay here again! Beautiful home, great location, owners are very helpful and respond quickly!

We had a great time here for our annual "girls beach trip". The property was exactly as listed. It has a secluded feel because of the pond/lake in the back. Secluded--yet right in the heart of town-5 minute drive to shops, restaurants, carnival grounds, 10 minutes to assateague beach. We came here for pony penning week and even though the swim was canceled there were still a ton of activities. We saw the ponies at the carnival grounds, the Chincoteague drill team, Misty's birthday party (what great fun!)
The house was very very well stocked - everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, games and toys for the kids, beach toys, umbrellas, and chairs, an outdoor shower, picnic area, deck, grill, and a screened in porch. I highly recommend this place and would definitely rent this again.

The home is beautiful and well stocked. This is one of the top houses I've rented in Chincoteague.

In all of my stays, I’ve never been at a property where so little was required for a packing. Bill and Kathleen thought of truly everything. Whether it was laundry and dish detergent, kitchen electrics, or linens, it was all there. Would certainly recommend to friends/family (and already have).

Fantastic property, friendly and helpful owners, super comfortable from everyone from our baby to little kids, to the adults, including a well-equipped kitchen and trouble-free internet. Everything was super clean. Great base, close to everything on Chincoteague. In a pretty spot to boot, with a pond out back and great birdwatching from the deck. Already planning our next trip!

Located in the village close to shops and restaurants yet feels private because of small pond and woods. Very quiet and peaceful. Easy drive or bike ride to Wildlife Refuge and beach. Well furnished and equipped. Owner responsive to questions.
I can't think of any possible improvements and I hope to visit again someday!

Really enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable, well set up (kitchen was excellent), and nearby to most things. It is located next to a pond and very nicely landscaped. (There was a problem with hot water at first, but Bill responded immediately, the issue was quickly resolved,). Highly recommended.

We had a most relaxing long weekend fall trip. This house was beautifully appointed and impeccably clean. Beautiful water and wooded views from living room, kitchen, screened porch, deck, and more. Great sleep was had on the firm mattresses in both the MBR and second BR. Even the bathroom towels were luxurious. We did not use the third BR, but would love to bring our grandchildren back in the future! There is much more to say, but know that you will not be disappointed...

House was clean, very well appointed, and in a convenient location a 5-minute drive from "downtown" , to the playground at Memorial Park, and 15 minutes to Assateague Beach. Nicely tucked away on a quiet street with a great view over the pond that it backs onto. One of the nicest properties that we saw on the island. We appreciated the crib and highchair having a 22-month toddler. Owner's provided great recommendations on things to do in the area and left a couple of nice welcome touches (coffee and wine!) in the kitchen for our arrival. Would strongly recommend and would go back again.

We received timely and accurate communication from the owner. The house was clean up arrival, had a very convenient layout with plenty of natural light. The flow of house was great - large kitchen led to open dining / living area with an outdoor screened porch. Bedrooms / laundry were all on same floor. Quiet area and within short drive to main street, restaurants, playground, beach, and other activities. We had a wonderful visit.

Vacation homes are always a bit of a crap-shoot. Some houses are over-furnished, making it clear that this is someone else's home and you're just visiting. That's just awkward. Others are bare-bones, necessitating either boxes of supplies brought from home or trips to the store to buy something you assumed you'd have, but wasn't provided... and now you're stuck with an extra you'll likely use only once. We've stayed in many vacation properties, but few have been as well supplied or had as many thoughtful touches as this lovely home.
The kitchen is beautiful, with high-end appliances, great cookware (Finding Le Creuset in a vacation home? Unheard of!), dishes, Tupperware, silverware, and glassware... all in abundance and good repair. There is also a well-stocked spice cabinet, and a selection of staples and condiments - a welcome surprise!
Everything in the house is in great shape, and each time we thought "Oh, I wish I had ______ ," there it was. From a shop-vac in the parking-area storage room (a godsend for our car after a couple of beach excursions!) to the provided bicycles to thoughtfully placed and LABELED light switches and the adorable matching giraffe toilet brushes, there were so many little things that make this house feel like the "good chair" that feels comfortable right from the start.
Perfectly situated, you're close to everything yet sufficiently secluded. We loved sitting out on the screen porch in the quiet stillness of the evening, watching the mallard couple in "their" marsh while listening to the crickets and katydids singing along with the zen-like sounds of the windchime. We enjoyed being just around the corner from Church Street Produce (try a tomato pie - fantastic!), and within easy biking distance of downtown, Maddox Blvd, and even the beach. Walk 2 blocks down Wayne Road in the morning and you've got a gorgeous view of the Assateague lighthouse, backlit by the sunrise.
Of course, there are a few things about island living that can be a bit of a drag. Both internet and television are delivered via satellite, which means that when it's stormy out (and you're most likely to be stuck in the house), reception suffers. That's just the way it is. Fortunately, there's a cabinet full of games and an eclectic selection of books in the library. Also worth noting, the king and queen beds both have VERY firm mattresses.
This house is a real gem, and clearly the reason is the owners. Book with confidence!
