About this house rental
Create family memories with a stay at Mountain Serenity, a beautiful luxury mountain home nestled in a private valley surrounded by wildlife and trees.
This house is part of the Mountain Serenity Rentals group, an elite group of family-owned properties providing the absolute best of what Angel Fire has to offer. Mountain Serenity Rentals is a small but mighty team started by husband and wife duo Eric and Cheryl in 2006. What began with one house and a small dream has since grown into our true passion: offering families from all over the opportunity to make memories in the mountains in beautiful, clean, up-to-date, and well-maintained homes. At Mountain Serenity Rentals, we intentionally market only a handful of properties so we can provide the highest level of service. We believe you deserve all the things you need for a great stay, and don’t want to nickle and dime you for them. Our homes are stocked with firewood for fireplaces and fire pits, propane for gas grills, detergent for laundry machines, and all the basics for kitchens and bathrooms. If you are ever missing something during your stay, don’t hesitate to reach out! We have gathered a tremendous amount of knowledge over the years, but actively value feedback from our guests so we can continue to improve and provide excellence.
Some things about the house we know you'll love:
**The house has a spectacular view of a private valley where all you see are trees and sky and wildlife, and the house is on 3 lots so it's secluded and private, yet it's so close to town- only 1 mile to the grocery store and 2 miles to the ski lift or golf course.
** Our house is kept very clean and furniture is up-to-date. We have owned and rented this home since 2006 and as a result, we are experienced in knowing what families want and need from their vacation home.
**It sleeps up to 10, which is ideal for 2-3 families. It has 4 bedrooms (2 kings, 2 queens) and a kids room with a curtain to close it off (with bunk beds). It has 2-1/2 bathrooms.
**We provide the backdrop for creating great family memories in your mountain getaway away from the big city, such as a hot tub on the porch, decks with rocking chairs and porch swings where you can have coffee or happy hour and watch the wildlife and enjoy the amazing views, cornhole during summertime, an outdoor firepit (and we provide a stocked wood pile too) to gather around while making s'mores and telling stories, a log see-saw for the kids to enjoy, sleds in the winter and access to the Angel Fire trail system just behind the house from which you can walk all around Angel Fire.
**The house is fully stocked for you with everything you'll need for your stay – linens and towels, hair dryers, detergent for washing machine and dishwasher, shampoo & body wash, kitchen soap, paper towels, napkins, spices and olive oil. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need – even if you're cooking Thanksgiving dinner! All you need to buy is the food!

BEDROOMS/SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS:
Our house has 3 floors so everyone can spread out and have their own space. The top floor has 2 bedrooms (one with queen bed and one with king bed) and a full bathroom. The main floor has a master bedroom with a king bed and full bathroom with shower and Jacuzzi tub. There is also a half-bath on the main floor. The bottom floor has a bedroom with a queen bed, and a kids' room separated by a curtain with a set of bunk beds. Bedrooms and bathrooms are fully stocked with pillows, linens/blankets, towels, shampoo and body wash, hair dryers and hand soap.
LIVING AREAS:
Your group will enjoy spreading out in the multiple living areas in the house. The main floor has a living room with comfy furniture and a gas fireplace. The living room is part of a great room area connected to the kitchen and breakfast eating area – one of my personal favorite times is when you are in the house during a snowstorm – watching snow fall across the valley onto the trees is just magical. On the lower floor is the gameroom where families can gather to play air hockey or watch TV together or play cards, games or puzzles – all provided for you. The kids' room is a fun haven for the little ones with board games, stuffed animals and toys.
KITCHEN/DINING
Creating and eating meals together is another way to create great family memories and the Mountain Serenity home provides everything you need. Our kitchen features stainless appliances, a double oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer, coffee makers (regular and a Keurig), blender, griddle, crockpot. All plates, glassware, baking/cookware, pots, pans, utensils are all provided. In addition, we have a cabinet full of olive oil, flour, sugar, and spices to get you started. And on the back covered porch is a gas grill.
For dining seating, we have several options – there are 2 barstools at the kitchen counter, a breakfast table that seats 4 and also a full dining room with doors that close for privacy and a huge table that seats 8 people.
ENTERTAINMENT INDOORS:
We aim to provide the ingredients for everyone to have fun and be entertained while inside the Mountain Serenity home. The gameroom has an air hockey table, TV with DVD player, a card table and puzzles and games. The living area has a sound system with radio and connections for your smart phone to play music that way. The house has high speed internet and wifi. There's also a TV and DVD player in the master bedroom.
ENTERTAINMENT OUTDOORS:
Outside, we aim to provide the setting for fun family memories. The back of the house has a deck with rocking chairs and side tables – picture your family having coffee in the morning or celebrating happy hour in the afternoon while taking in the mountain air and spotting wildlife in the valley most commonly seen around dawn and dusk. The front porch is covered and has a porch swing and table and chairs – great for watching kids play in the yard or sitting and staying dry while watching a rain shower or snow storm. There's a gas grill on the covered back porch as well for grilling in summer or winter. The front yard has a firepit with stocked wood pile for family gatherings in winter or summer. On the front porch is the hot tub, perfect for family conversations and relaxation after skiing or hiking. Relax on the hammock in the yard in the summer while watching the kids play on our homemade see-saw. It's so nice to watch kids explore nature in our huge yard and the woods beside our house – and in the summers here where the temperature is in the 70s, kids play outside all day long – like when we all grew up. In the winter, our driveway is perfect for sledding (we provide the sleds) and the yard perfect for snowmen and snowball fights.
The Angel Fire hiking trail system is adjacent to the house and is great for family walks (the "Elk" trail is directly behind our house and there's a trail from our back yard to get to it). You can walk to the grocery store from these trails and walk all around Angel Fire from these trails.
LAUNDRY ROOM/MUD ROOM
Entering the house from the garage is our mud room/laundry room. It has ample hooks for coats and rubber mats for boots. We have a front load washer and dryer with provided detergent and dryer sheets. There is another area inside the front door with boot mats and a hall closet for coats so everyone can spread out.
PARKING/GARAGE:
When you get to the house, we have a garage to park your vehicle in, which you'll appreciate in the winter. Our house sits down from the road so the driveway slopes down to the house. We spend a lot of time and expense maintaining the driveway so that it's easy for people to get down and less intimidating for those who aren't used to driving in the snow. Our property manager will have the driveway plowed and cindered after a storm and you are able to request additional plowings at any time should you need it. There is also a parking spot halfway down the driveway or you can also park at the top.
Note: for your protection and ours, we have security cameras that monitor the exterior entry points at the front of the house and the rear.

We went in July to escape the hot Oklahoma weather. The house was great! We really enjoyed all the wildlife we saw from the back porch. House was clean and big enough for 3 families. Great location!

Lovely location, beautiful view. I was a little disappointed that there was no complimentary coffee provided(very basic, I believe) Upstairs bed linens were not clean,,we washed them ourselves

We had a great stay. Fantastic kitchen with everything we needed. We loved the trail that ran behind the house. Hot tub and air hockey table were a hit.

Part of me would like to keep this property the best kept secret on VRBO, though I can’t help but exclaim how wonderful of an experience our stay at Mountain Serenity was. For starters, the property had everything we needed including seasonings, games, soaps, and propane just to name a few. We arrived and were immediately able to relax without worrying about what we may have forgotten. The beds were comfy and the property was welcoming. Tucked away yet close to trails and the town, this property was the best we’ve stayed at location wise. The owner was incredibly responsive (responding within 10 minutes), accommodative, friendly, and welcoming. I hope to visit again in the future!!!

We really enjoyed our stay here and we are happy we booked it. The house is in great condition. The kitchen is well appointed, the view across the valley from the porch is peaceful.

It was nice we enjoyed ourselves. We enjoyed seeing the wildlife. The downstairs was a big plus for the kids with the air hockey table, board games, and TV.
The hot tub and outside fire pit was great!

Plenty of space, very clean, amazing views, kitchen stocked with everything you need. The driveway was steeper than it appeared in the pics. We parked at the top of the driveway throughout our stay which was a little inconvenient with kids, ski gear, etc. Four wheel drive is a must in the winter months. Loved the hot tub and room for the kids to play. Beautiful house.

This was a great place for our family to get together and enjoy quality time. We loved walking the trails, sitting in the hot tub, playing games and air hockey! We saw a big buck right by the house the first morning of our stay!

We had a great week staying at this place. It was clean and comfy. The kitchen has everything we needed, including a very well stocked spice collection. It was close to several hiking trails and the main town of angel fire. Perfect spot for a reaxing getaway. Communication was great. We would love to return.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house was perfect for multiple generations as we each had our own area in the house. The view of the valley and wildlife is spectacular! The kids enjoyed the air hockey table and hot tub and we all enjoyed s’mores around the fire. It was a perfect summer mountain getaway!

The house was perfect for our three families ( 9 people in total.) Kids loved the basement, was a great hangout. We all loved the numerous hiking trails out the back door, watching the wildlife off the back porch, star gazing at night, the fire pit and hammock! The dinner table fit us all…The store is convenient and close. Many outdoor activities close by. Hoping to make this a regular summer trip to beat the heat of Ks!

This house was beyond beautiful! Really well taken care of and clean. There was everything we needed which was very nice. I wish checkout was a little later but she allowed a free hour so check out was at 10am.

We enjoyed our stay (February 2023) in this property. We had four adults and 5 kids. The kids stayed in the basement (bunk room & queen) and the adults stayed in the two rooms with king beds. There was one leftover queen that we did not use. The kids loved the basement with the air hockey table and fun bunk room. It was comfortable and clean with everything we needed. We had some snow and the driveway is downhill so we were stuck for one-day, but they came a plowed and we were able to get out. You can park at the top of the driveway if you are concerned, but loading/unloading is a little difficult.

What a perfect winter vacation. The home and surrounding nature were amazing (deer walk up to the property daily). The home is extremely cozy with grand views of the valley below. We had the best time and will be planning a trip back next season!

This is such a beautiful home and
we all enjoyed our stay there! Plenty of room for a large family. Our group
included adults & children.
Loved the home! It was well supplied with
everything we needed. Great layout and a dream. The lady I talked to was the sweetest person and helpful with everything I ask for. I would definitely recommend this house, it is everything you could want and more.

We enjoyed the cabin. I did not enjoy driving on the roads to cabin. Our vehicle slid head first into a tree. That put a damper on the trip but we made the best of it.

We booked this house for a 5-day getaway with our dear friends; we had 4 adults and 6 kids total. We had a wonderful experience and especially loved the spacious kitchen, the outdoor fire pit and hammock, and the air hockey table.
MORE PROS:
- The network of trails behind the property is great - we were able to do a pretty good “walk/hike” (5.5 miles) that let us feel like we were out in nature and didn’t require a drive to a trailhead.
- House was immaculately clean. We’re pretty picky about this and I had zero issues or concerns.
- Kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, utensils and spices. Towels and linens are nice and several of the beds have high quality memory foam pillows.
A FEW CONSIDERATIONS
- The house is very cozy and well-furnished; however, our group of 10 had trouble finding a place we could all sit and hang out together. The upstairs (main floor) living room has a beautiful fireplace and great views but just 2 loveseats and one chair. It works great when kids are running around and a group is cooking and another group is playing a board game, but we wished there had been another sofa or space for a couple additional seats in that main room for when we all wanted to be together.
- Again, our group was large for this house (10 people is the max they allow for overnight guests) but we found the bathroom situation slightly tight. There are 2 1/2 baths, exactly as advertised. The basement (with bunk room) does not have a bathroom so it’s helpful if anyone staying there can feel comfortable using the master bath on the first floor to shower, etc. The other full bathroom in the upper level has a nice shower and tub but a very small sink area, so a little tight for multiple users to get ready/brush teeth, etc. (Note: adding mirrors in the upstairs bedrooms could help relieve pressure on that single bathroom - that was people can do hair, put in contacts, etc in the bedrooms vs having to go to the bathrooms for a mirror.)
Overall, totally delightful. We loved our stay!!

What I liked: The house is spacious, exceptionally clean, very comfortable, has an exceptionally stocked kitchen, many unique amenities (such as an abundance of games and stuffed animals in the room with bunk beds), and the best hot tub I've experienced at any VRBO property. It has a great back deck overlooking the view of the mountain on the other side with a narrow valley/mountain bog in between and with an abundance of animals and wildflowers. It is very close to the greenbelt trails which go through the forest and offers easy walks to town (That is once we got a greenbelt trail map. I left the one I got from the Chamber of Commerce and hope it stays with the house information notebook). Cheryl is prompt to respond and offers clear instructions by email and in the house notebook
What I didn't like (and why I didn't rate it as a 5). Fees: The total price was higher than other options, but we chose it because everything else was booked. The fees are stated once you book, but not before. (1) Fees included: there
cleaning fee well above what I've encountered at other properties, normally there's no fee for included amenities, but there is a substantial fee for the hot tub with no option to decline it, and there is a substantial administrative, a fee I've never encountered this with other rentals. The end result was our per night stay was 1 2/3 more than the advertised fee. (2) The bathroom lay out. On the ground floor, the house has a fantastic bedroom and room with 2 bunk beds and an elevated cushioned area. Our son, his wife, 8-year -old twins and 3-year-old stayed downstairs. However, there is no bathroom on the ground floor. The nearest toilet is on the middle floor. The only showers available are either share the shower with the master bedroom on the middle floor or with the two bedrooms on the third floor. (3) 9:00 a.m. checkout time (1 - 3 hours earlier than any VRBO, hotel or B&B that I've stayed in). The time is clearly stated in the house posting. However, when I booked, I failed to calculate how challenging it would be to get 9 people, including 3 young children, up, dressed, fed, packed and cars loaded by 9:00 a.m. We gave up and at breakfast in Taos. Despite these dislikes, it is still a fantastic house.

We would stay here again, without question. The views are some of the best in New Mexico and the home was exactly as advertised. Communication was perfect and we will seek out other homes owned by Cheryl. Thank you for a memorable vacation!

We enjoyed our stay at this gorgeous cabin. Everyone’s favorite activity was just being outside with nature, whether it was on the back deck overlooking the trails or on the front porch swing. There was something for every age and interest from the trails to the hot tub & fire pit to the air hockey. We had a great stay and hope to come back soon.

We really enjoyed our stay here! Very comfortable and the view off the back deck was amazing. w
Property was very nice and well maintained. Convenient drive into Angle Fire. Plenty of room. The view off the back deck was better than alot of the properties in the area. The only concern we had was the drive way; it's a bit tricky. I very much recommend backing slowly down the driveway. You could not use the driveway in the winter unless you had a very good 4x4. BTW - It would have been awesome if the hot tub was on the back deck versus the front. Also, drive to Red River to do horse back riding.

Amazing vacation
My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Angel Fire. The house was beautiful and well stocked. The best part was the views from the backyard/porch. We saw coyotes, bears, hawks, crows, elk, hummingbirds, hawks, prairie dogs, chipmunks, an owl, and squirrels. All the hiking trails we needed were just a short walk from the house. We never needed to get in our car other than picking up groceries. (Grocery store is a mile away from house)
This was a perfect vacation for our family!! We give it 5 stars.

Great home with easy access to everything!
The home was wonderful for a Spring Break get away to ski at Angel Fire. We had a wonderful time and the house was close to everything. Ms. Cheryl is super helpful and very responsive to answer any questions or needs you may have!

Spring Break 2022
We had two families from Texas, nine people total staying at this property for spring break this year. We had a wonderful time. The home is beautiful and spaced out. Proximity to the resort is minutes away.

Perfection!
The home and the setting for the home are absolutely gorgeous. You will not be disappointed with the property as it is very modern and very open and spacious. We found the house to be surprisingly warm even with the thermostat kept at 66. We had two parents and 4 children. I had the master bedroom and the shower head is a water saving shower head that isn’t awesome but works just fine. Also, watch your hand when you close the shower door in the master bathroom. The way it is designed lends itself to pinched fingers fairly easily. We needed nothing at the cabin. All the provisions provided were plenty for us. We luckily received about 10” of fresh powder the first night we were there and drove over to Red River to ski there and it was the best snow we’ve had there in 6 years. That being said, if you stay there and get that much snow I advise that you park up above the driveway. There is ample room. I have a half ton Ram and just barely made it up that driveway in four low. My friend has a new 3/4 duramax and it did just fine getting out. It is. VERY steep though and the plow service they have may not get to you before you want to leave. The peacefulness and stunning back door views are incredible. The very spacious hot tub was such a treat at the end of the day when your sore leg muscles are just buzzing with fatigue! You will love it here.

Great Family Vacation
Our family had such a great time staying here. The home on the inside and out was beautiful, quite and gave you a moment of zen while being in the hot tube. The kids had more fun than you could imagine, with a field full of snow there was countless hours of snowball fights and building forts. The location of the place is very nice, close to town but far away to have some piece and quite. I definitely will be staying here again...

Great stay!!
We all had a great time here! The views are amazing! So close to the the ski resort! It was great to come back from a long day of skiing and enjoy relaxing outside in the warm hot tub! We had a bit of snow fall during our stay and Cheryl had the snowplow come to clean the driveway! The boys enjoyed the game room with all kinds of games and tv! Would definitely come back and stay again!!!

Very Comfortable home. I recommend the summer for this property. Wintertime may not be the best time to stay with the driveway being steep and requires 4 wheel drive or chains on tires in case of snow. We shoveled the driveway in order to guarantee a way out in early morning temperatures.

Host was great with communication and making sure we were safe with the winter storm Angel Fire had. Great location , short drive to the slopes and amazing views.

Snowy getaway
We really enjoyed the secluded neighborhood of this property, yet it was close to amenities. Cheryl was wonderful to work with .. she kept in constant contact with us, even through the holiday weekend. We would gladly reserve thru her again. Beautiful house with plenty of space for our party of 6 adults. (Plus room to spare)

Absolutely beautiful property. Everything we expected. The best stocked kitchen we have ever rented. Had everything you could need. Would definitely stay again. You can’t go wrong with this house.
