About this house rental
Sycamore House is situated in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan in the heart of the Burren National Park, a karst limestone region, one of the largest in Europe where you will find arctic, Mediterranean and alpine plants side by side. From the front of the house you can see the rolling hills of the Burren, its limestone pavements with crisscrossing cracks known as 'grikes' leaving isolated rocks called 'glints'. The rear of the house is mostly glazed to take in the views of Ballyvaughan harbour and across Galway Bay and the mountains of Connemara.
With its large gently sloping lawn fronting onto the shoreline, a pathway from the house along by an old stone wall leads to flag stone steps onto the sea shore. There is also a secluded seating area with polished limestone table at the end of this pathway where one can relax and watch the ever changing seascape as the tides go in and out. The house has been designed to optimize the views. From the moment you enter the house you have views of Galway Bay. The sunken open plan kitchen-dining area is the heart of the house and boasts a glass wall 24'long by 12' high. The house is centrally heated throughout and for added comfort there is a solid fuel stove in this area which gives a warm cozy feeling when temperatures outside start to drop. Total floor space in the house is 3200 sq ft so space is generous in every room. All five bedrooms are ensuite and we pride ourselves on the quality of our beds and linen. Between them there are four queen sized beds and three single beds and the master bedroom which stands alone on the upper level has an extra sofa bed which is mostly used for relaxing with a glass of wine and a good book while also gazing out to sea.
Ballyvaughan village regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Burren region has a choice of good restaurants, craft shops and local shops. It is the ideal base to explore the rich heritage of the Burren and surrounding areas. The famous Burren Way (26 miles of green road) starts in Ballyvaughan, goes to Fanore, Doolin and ends in Liscannor taking in the Cliffs of Moher.
For the golfers, the famous links course at Lahinch is only a thirty minute drive from the house and further down the Clare coast is the Greg Norman designed Doonbeg course. There is also a choice of less well known courses such as Gort and Ennis.
Close to the house the unspoiled beaches of Bishops Quarter and Fanore invite you to swim ,kayak and surf. The sheltered Ballyvaughan Bay is suitable for all kinds of water activities. Try a swim in the sea or learn to dive with the Burren Adventure Dive Centre.
Finally when it is time to relax the living room beckons to put your feet up, with its plush leather sofas and soft furnishings and to add to the atmosphere on those cooler nights why not start a fire in the large open fireplace made from polished Burren stone. As an added treat firewood is provided free of charge.

We have just got back after a wonderful week in this property the views and space are amazing.
House is beautiful an 8 min walk into Ballyvaughan.
Seamus met us at the house on arrival to let us know what to do with everything and also gave us lots of advice on where to go and what to do - which was a game changer.
A week just doesnt seem long enough to explore the wonderful area and Ireland.
We will be back
Thanks for a fab week

Ballyvaughn is the perfect location to enjoy hill walks, beaches, and small town ambience. Sycamore house is the perfect place to come back “home” after a busy day.

Three generations of our family (youngest aged 4) spent a week in this spectacular house in Ballyvaughan. Everything about it exceeded expectations - from Seamus’ friendly welcome onwards.
The house is vast - loads of space for 4 families, each bedroom with its own en suite shower (and a separate bathroom too, great for the little ones). The kitchen is so well equipped, everyone could be seated for meals - the sitting room, too, is large and comfortable, with seating for all.
The setting of, and views from, the house are stunning - a beautiful long garden reaches down to the water’s edge. A walk along the shore takes you to a small pier (where many happy hours were spent crabbing) and on into the village itself.
There’s so much to do in the area. This stretch of coast is beautiful. The sea, the cliffs, the burren….we were spoilt for choice and would love to return.

Wonderful visit...beautiful property.

My extended family was looking for a large house on the west coast of Ireland. Sycamore House filled the bill. The property is beautifully situated overlooking Galway Bay in the tiny community of Ballyvaughan. The house is roomy and comfortable. The kitchen is large and reasonably equipped.
Seamus is a gracious host and cared for our needs.
The house had two quirks. First, the back door lock did not function properly and we had to leave it unlocked for most of our stay. I rather think that Seamus has repaired it by now. Second, the ornamental hood over the stove is a hazard for tall folks -- which most of our group were. At least four of us hit our head multiple times as we prepared meals.
That being said, these are small problems. Overall, we greatly enjoyed this property and highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for lodging on the edge of the Burren.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this property. Plenty of room for our family of 10 (ranging from 10yrs-46yrs). Seamus was very friendly and the home was outfitted with everything you need for your stay. Our family loved spending our nights by the fire in the living room and enjoyed looking out over the beautiful views of the bay during the day. Would definitely recommend this home to others!

Returning to Co Clare , Ireland for a holiday with family & friends , Sycamore House was perfect for all our needs.
The views over Galway Bay across the freshly mowed lawn was incredible.
The provision of firewood & Turf was a real treat for us and we were very impressed with the quality of the linen & the vast array of cooking equipment & lovely crystal glassware. An entertainers dream of a home away from home
Conveniently located within walking distance to the town & Monks seafood restaurant. We could have stayed for a month

The house is lovely. Plenty of room. Beds are very comfortable. Property is well equipped with lots of everyday essentials you’re more than welcome to use. Ideally located about a 5-10 min walk into the village either via the road/pavements or across the stone beach at the bottom of the garden. Seamus is a diamond, and nothing was too much trouble.

The home is immaculately clean and roomy, with a wonderful living room and kitchen space. The view of the bay is amazing and the bedrroms are cozy. Seamus was a great host and the house has very good instructions if he can't meet you there. I would stay again in a heartbeat!

Property is beautiful, the photos don’t do it justice. The water pressure/heat situations left a bit to be desired, but otherwise a wonderful stay. Would recommend to others and would return if I found myself in the area again.

This house is a dream, location, layout, on the ocean! Perfect for a family, so many bedrooms. The huge kitchen is perfect for family dinners or time together. We were tucked away from the city but close enough to travel to Galway or The Cliffs or Moher.
We would book this home again and hope to!

Both this house and area were gorgeous. We stayed for Christmas with parents and in-laws and it was a wonderful experience. Seamus even had a Christmas tree up :D.

We stayed for 2 nights and it’s just what was needed to rest and relax within a middle of a 10 day vacation around Ireland. The home was clean, homey, and comfortable - it was BEAUTIFUL!
NOT one bad thing to say- highly recommend - wish we stayed longer. House, location, host: all were 5 stars!

This house offers everything needed for a comfortable vacation. It is much more beautiful in person. The photos don’t do it credit. My friends and I spent a great week exploring the nearby towns and attractions. A wonderful house in a wonderful location.

Seamus was such an amazing host and helped us settle into the location with ease. He also provided us with great recommendations close to the area.
Truly have never wanted to come back to a vacation house so quickly! I hope to come back and have family reunions here several times throughout my life.
It is everything you’re looking for in an Ireland get away. Thatched roofs in local cottages, the cutest donkeys roaming near by, and a tiny whiskey bar. And the space in the house was lovely!
Cant wait to be back!

This home is exactly what it looks like - a gorgeous view, plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms, and fairly modern amenities. You can walk to the village and it was the perfect size for our party of 12. One surprise is we were charged for our electricity use but it did not amount to a whole lot and did not detract from the lovely stay. There are also a lot of rules and regs around garbage and recycling but, again, not a big deal. We stayed in three houses on the trip and this was, by far, everyone's favorite. Definitely recommend.

This is a superb property for a large family group. We gathered in the evenings in the magnificent kitchen to enjoy the wonderful sea views, a glass of wine and the craic. Spacious home and even better than the photos. We take with us great family memories of our time in Ballyvaughan and the beautiful scenery of County Clare.

Our group of 13 included 4 couples and 5 kids, ages 10-16. The house was just perfect for us. Plenty of spaces for people to gather - a great TV/family room, and the gorgeous open kitchen and dining area. The bedrooms were roomy and comfortable. Having so many bathrooms was a real luxury, and laundry facilities were appreciated. The house is solidly built, and very sound proof, allowing for sleep when others were up watching TV or playing games. The yard was great, although rainy weather prevented us using it much. If we are ever in the area again, we’d stay here for sure!

The home was just as described and our group of 10 fit perfectly. It had everything that we needed. The property and town were lovely!!
10.0 / 10.0
We knew by reading online about this house that it would accommodate our large group of 8 adults and 2 children - but we didn’t realize it would be a home away from home. Accommodation was pristine, clean - and its owner, Seamus, met us there to make sure we had everything we needed. The location offered us an idyllic setting from where we easily took day trips around to sites around the area. Would recommend without hesitation, and would happily return.

We had a lovely week stay at the house. With 6 adults and 5 children there was more than enough space for us all , and we all enjoyed heading down to the bottom of the garden to enjoy the view and water.
The house provided an excellent base for exploring the local area and we couldn’t have asked for anymore.

Such a lovely house and location. We had 11 adults and 2 under 3s staying and despite the weather being mostly wet and windy we all had a fantastic time. The house is so well equipped and the layout is perfect for a social gathering. Would definitely recommend.

This house was lovely and worked great for our extended family group. There was plenty of space for everyone to spread out. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable, with very warm bedding, which was important in February! The kitchen was well stocked and worked great for us for the few meals we cooked there. The view is incredible, and a wonderful way to start the day. We are very happy we chose this property as a base for our few days exploring Co Clare and Co Galway!

On arrival, both Seamus and Mary were so friendly and welcoming. The house itself is absolutely beautiful and spacious, with the most amazing views. The huge Christmas tree in the living room was a big hit with the kids!
The bedrooms were nice and big, and having en-suites in all of them was great.
The garden was enormous and we all enjoyed being able to access the shore line so easily.
We definitely hope to be back :)
