About this house rental
Lawson’s Place overlooks Seneca Lake and is directly on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, in the heart of the Finger Lakes region of New York. The house is surrounded by vineyards in a quiet farming region and located directly next to Glenora Winery and Tin Barn Brewery.
Lawson’s Place sits on 1.3 acres of land right on Route 14 in Dundee, NY, about 10 minutes from Watkins Glen, 15 minutes to Penn Yan, and 30 minutes to Geneva. The home was recently remodeled and comfortably accommodates 8 people with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, and a game room with a futon. There are three TVs with cable and an Xbox One in the game room. We provide towels, washcloths, and bed linens. The kitchen is fully stocked with plates, glass ware, and utensils. We also have a coffee maker, oven, microwave, dishwasher and everything else you would need in a kitchen.
Our most popular amenities is the sunroom overlooking the lake that has a fantastic view of the sunrise over the lake, an outdoor fire pit with Adirondack chairs, a gas grill, a game room with an Xbox One with a dozen games, 3 HDTVs, fast internet, a full kitchen, and tons of space.
Many of the area’s attractions are easily accessible from Lawson’s Place, whether your interests are focused on world-class wine and other craft food and beverage sampling, state parks and the area’s many waterfalls, museums, auto racing, agri-tourism, biking, swimming, boating and hiking, fine dining, and/or live entertainment. Literally there is something for everyone.
While many people love being surrounded by vineyards, they are real producing vineyards and the farmers utilize cannons to scare away birds during harvest time in September and October. It can be a bit jarring when you first hear them, but you forget them pretty quickly. Also, we make use of well water and do not have access to city water. We have a very large water storage system in the basement but if you leave water on, you run the risk of running the well dry.

Great family vacation in a new area for us. The house was large enough for 8 adults & a 15 month old. Lots of room to spread out but also nice large areas to congregate. Perfect location! Close to so many different areas to explore. The parks & scenery were fantastic! Loved the wineries & breweries! Suggestion would be to include grab bars in the downstairs bathroom. The house overall could have been a bit cleaner. A little extra time spent dust mopping corners for cobwebs, window sills & maybe an updated selection of kitchen suppilies (pots, pans, & bowls) but overall the poperty was as described & provided our family a nice place to stay & enjoy ourselves. Thanks for sharing your property!

Very conveniently located near Watkins Glen. Large yard and ample parking space for three cars. Generous common space for families with small children. Three bathrooms we're great for nine people. Large kitchen with ample counter and table space for eating in. We would have enjoyed opening the windows for fresh air if they had screens. Abundance of flies and no fly swatters! Insufficient supply of silverware, dishes, pots and pans for a large group. We had to improvise and use the dishwasher after every meal. Some of the doors were sticking and difficult to open.

Large older home with great character and lake view.
Comfy beds, lovely front porch and large kitchen, our family enjoyed the stay.

The property was as advertised. It is very conveniently located near to a lot of wineries. We loved the fire ring at night and the beds were very comfortable. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Our house had a beautiful view and was right on the wine trail, close to Watkins Glen and restaurants. It was clean and as described in the listing.

The property is located on a highway, 9 miles from Watkins Glen and 26 miles from Geneva. The highway is moderately busy during the day but very quiet during the night. Lots of wineries and breweries nearby.
The amenities were as advertised but the house was not properly cleaned when we arrived. We cleaned up what we could. But the upstairs bathroom had mouse droppings in all of the cabinets so we decided not to use it. We contacted the property owner who apologized and promised to have his maintenance crew address the issues.

The house is wonderful. Sleeps four couples (8 adults) comfortably. The location is excellent for wineries. We enjoyed the house: its size, rooms and amenities.
Only concern is the driveway entrance could be improved with a little maintenance and widening.
Great place to enjoy the area, the incredible views and relax with friends.

This house is a great location. We were spending the weekend at Seneca Lake to enjoy our son‘s wedding. While the wedding was held at Glenora, which is right across the street, the rehearsal dinner was held at the Tin Barn Brewery, which is right next to this property. The property was clean and has everything you need for your stay. We enjoyed it very much.

The property lived up to the pictures posted with the listing. Only property issue was the deep grass, making us pass on the fire pit given the rainy weather.
The hosts were invisible. I did not receive any pre-arrival information (like check in information) & had to make multiple calls to gain access to the property. Same for check out - a couple of lines in the property information binder. I attempted to ask questions pre-arrival & did not receive any response. The property was removed from vrbo so I couldn’t dbl check amenities.

We don’t believe that the cleaning crew completed the laundry sheets and towels were not ready. One of our folks ended up doing four loads of laundry to get the place ready. Mainly sheets and towels

The home is stunning. The location was perfect. The view was picturesque. The vineyard next door has a sound cannon on the property line (to scare birds from the grapes) and it goes off every 2-3 minutes starting at 6:30am until 7:30pm (I timed it). I don't know if this is all year, but this definitely ruined our moms weekend away where we were all looking forward to sleeping in and napping and resting since this was a getaway from our kids. I was disappointed not to see this on the listing. I would stay here again if I knew when the cannons run (no idea if it's all year or just grape picking season).

I had my bachelorette party in the Finger lakes and needed a place to accommodate a large group. This house was perfect! Great location and plenty of space. My only complaint/negative review would be that we did have an issue with the water not working when we got to the property. That said, the host came and got the water running within an hour or so of our arrival and we didn’t have any further issues the rest of the weekend!

The layout worked well for our group- large kitchen and porch were a bonus. Great access to many vineyards. Hosts were easy to work with. Definitely recommend. Appreciate that they are transparent about the busy road in front. It does get loud.

Great Stay
We had a wonderful stay after a few hicups. The local area was without power shortly after we arrived. This was not a problem since we had planned to go out for dinner. When we returned power was restored but we did not realize that it knocked out the well pump. When we woke up the next morning we had no water. The owners we quick to respond and come and reset the pump and water was restored. The house had everything we needed for six adults. The view was outstanding and the fire pit and wood was a wonderful bonus. Would stay at this location again.

Great Host and Place
This is a very nice place in a convenient location. Jason is a great host and was very responsive. We contacted him with an issue and he immediately sent a maintenance person to take care of the problem. Definitely would recommend.

Great Graduation Stay
Our family attended Cornell's graduation and stayed at this property. There were 8 adults, and it was perfect for us all. Cozy, but plenty of room to spread out for conversations, games, drinks, etc. Beautiful view of Seneca Lake. Wineries all around, some within walking distance. We enjoyed the fire pit out back at night. I would book again!

Great location
Was a great location - enjoyed all the wineries nearby and hiked in Watkins Glen State Park. Communication and response time could be faster but our issues were eventually resolved.

Another great family get together!
This is our second stay as a family of siblings at this home. It is very comfortable and had a homey feeling. The house was well equipped for our stay. Everyone had a wonderful time. We will book again. Thanks

Great place to stay!
We spent a great week at this highly desirable home. The location is great. The lake view is actually better than the pictures show. The house was large, clean, comfortable, and well equipped for everything we wanted to do. The front porch was perfect for morning coffee! We would gladly stay here again.

Absolutely Wonderful!!!!
This was the perfect spot for our couple's getaway! There are so many cozy spots to sit for coffee in the morning and plan for the day, a beautiful well-equipped new kitchen to make a meal, wonderful porch for afternoon wine and apps. The location is perfect with wineries so close, and a short 10 minute drive to Watkins Glenn, where we took an evening dinner/blues cruise to see the sunset. We also did the Watkins Glen Falls hike which is just a short drive away and a must-do! The beds were comfy, the cabinets seemed all new with pots, pans, glasses, cofffee and coffee maker, spices, etc, all you need. We enjoyed a few wonderful fires at night (wood was provided which was great!), so quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend for a friends or family getaway, especially if you enjoy wine!!! Although this is on a main road, there is very little traffic. Communication was also great and arrival directions simple. We hope to be back!!

Nice but needs some attention to detail
The good…
Beautiful views
Roomy. Well laid out. Nicely decorated with plenty of seating areas and lovely artwork.
4 of the 5 bedroom were fairly large. The 5th had a futon and a chair but good for 1 person to stay comfortably. Two would be tight.
Lots of extra pillows and throw blankets, though the upstairs linen closet was a bit of a mess.
Nice master bath with updated double vanities and shower.
New gas grill, though it hadn’t been cleaned from the previous renters and took quite a while to scrape off.
Fire pit - with firewood supplied
Nice washer/dryer and some detergent
Plenty of glasses
Provided plenty of toilet paper & a roll of paper towels
Front sun porch was really nice with great view … sadly we couldn’t really take advantage of it with the heat wave.
Air conditioning worked well for the most part. There was a leaking prob in twin bedroom which wasn’t rectified while we were there and we were using all bedrooms so no alternative.
The not so good….
Flies - prob killed 10-15 the first day ( I get people moving in and out but it did seem excessive).
Dishwasher was broken during our entire stay so we were never able to use for our party of 10 so that was a chore I hadn’t counted on - informed owner right away and he said he’d prob need to look for a “new” one at Lowe’s so I’m not sure if it was already a known issue.
Need a few more chairs to accommodate 10 in the kitchen together
Not enough utensils (5 butter knives, 10large forks, 6 small forks, 7 small spoons, 12 large spoons )
Need more of the larger coffee cups (had 4) and the others were way to small for our coffee drinkers.
No cutting board
Not a single dish towel which I informed the owner about right away especially since we had to do all dishes by hand…but since no response -I bought one at Walmart and left it for the next renters
Crumbs in some bottom cupboards (toaster) and beneath stove
Microwave dirty inside
No garbage bags provided (welcome sheet said there would be some under the sink)
Definitely need more washcloths (there were only 2) and more bath towels. There were 8 of the soft bath towels plus 3 scratchier white towels (found in the laundry room) for our party of 10.
Instructions said Garbage was supposed to go in the bins in the garage but couldn’t fully access the garage
Lighting above dining area and throughout house in general was pretty dim
Need a shower caddy in upstairs bath for toiletries.

Would not recommend
The grass was up to our knees and we were there 3 days until someone came and mowed the front (back was never mowed around the fire pit). We didn’t have any water when we got there and the locks were not set for us, both of which were resolved quickly. The house was not clean. There was bird poop and dead flies in the enclosed porch. Cob webs in the corners of the rooms, and a piece of glass was found in one of the beds. The house itself is big and at a great location but it needs a deep cleaning. The only reason I gave it a 3 instead of lower was that the owners son tried very hard to accommodate us.

Great location
Location was great. House was well kept and large enough for 10 comfortably. The grill didn't work and we weren't aware there was a bird cannon next to us. Not a great first impression with that bang. Overall it had everything we needed for cooking and entertainment.

Wonderful
The photos do not justify the size of this home, as it is much larger than presented. Home was clean and bright with fantastic lake views. Heads up you might hear the well pump which was loud and alarming one late evening. I was clueless what it was until I asked a relative to help determine source of the noise. I was disappointed the owner responded 14 hours later, otherwise communication was very efficient and helpful with the owner. Water pressure varied in the upstairs bathroom shower and vanity faucet so I would suggest using the downstairs shower for better pressure. The area is beautiful.

Seneca Sensation
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Been to many vacation rentals but this was beyond a doubt the most well appointed. Every piece of furniture was comfortable and there was space for all. The mattresses were phenomenal. I wanted to move in just for the night’s sleep. There was a large kitchen and eat in table that accommodated our family meals. The view and the fire ring were a plus for all ages. There were enough decorative items to make it feel homey, but no clutter so you could find you own items. Because we came from many directions we had many vehicles, but there was plenty of space. We had berthed a boat, but had to pull it out for the last night and the owner gave us good info on where to park it so it didn’t cause a bottleneck. Just a caution if you have dogs. The vineyards nearby use air canons to scare wildlife. On the first day when unloading our dog almost took off.
All in all a pleasant and comfortable stay. Definitely 5 stars.

Pretty as a picture
we were literally seeking shelter from the hurricane damage and came upon this listing. An easy commute from northern Jersey. The house is exactly as pictured. Spotless. All linens, towles, and kitchenware were good quality. Plenty of condiments and cleaning supplies. Plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 dogs - who enjoyed the large yard. Directly across from Lake Seneca. 10 minutes outside Watkins Glen. Wineries galore. Great Amish Kuntry Market about 15 minutes away had everything you could need and all locally fresh. We really enjoyed ourselves!

Big beautiful house
The photos do not give this location justice. Plenty of space for my extended family of 10 and my furry friend. View from the front porch each morning was amazing.

Awesome!
This house was amazing! We came up for the fall foliage and winery experience. This house was the perfect location. It was so clean and updated, yet had the charm of an old home. The spaciousness allowed us to comfortably accommodate 9 people. It had everything we needed for a relaxing getaway. There were many memories made this weekend! Thank you!

Wonderful place to gather family for a wedding!
Our son was getting married at Climbing Bines, and we wanted a centrally located home to gather and relax prior to the wedding as we were all out of town guests. We were delighted with the size and space of this home, affording plenty of private bedroom options as well as open spaces for playing cards and sharing meals. Plenty of cozy areas for quiet conversation away from the group as well. Excellent wine tasting options nearby as well as easy drive to Watkins Glen for a family hike. Short drive to Penn Yan for groceries and necessities.

Our fall weekend at dundee
Everything was very clean and comfortable. Very nice property and location. The only issues were that the heat was not on when we got there and it took hours to warm up. It was snowing out so it was cold. Our group from georgia and Maryland were absolutely chilled. The fireplace was not set up to work for the season so there was no relief there either. Other than that our group was comfortable. The individual heaters in each room were very welcomed as us northerners liked the bedrooms a little cooler than the southerners.

I only heard excellent things from the house.
