About this house rental
This newly constructed (2002) Vermont Cape is located on 50 very private acres of rolling open grasslands and pristine woodlands with breathtaking views of Mount Mansfield and Vermont's Green Mountains. You'll pass several dairy farms as you find your way to this one of a kind escape location. Situated on a ridge spanning the townships of Greensboro, Craftsbury and Hardwick, this home affords all the comforts of a luxury resort while allowing for all the solitude and peace of mind of an alpine camping trip. The home features beautiful exposed beams, hardwood floors throughout, custom built cabinets, plus a large fireplace. Activities for all seasons abound outside your front door. In summer, there is swimming, biking and hiking; in winter, cross country skiing, sledding and snowmobiling. For lake lovers in the summer, Caspian Lake in Greensboro is only 5 minutes away. For downhill lovers in winter, Stowe and Jay Peak are less than an hour away.
New to the home, in response to popular demand, is WiFi.
This home sleeps 14 comfortably with six bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths. Included are: downstairs master bedroom with full bath, fireplace, king size bed, and walk in closet; downstairs guest bedroom with full bath and queen size bed; two upstairs bedrooms with queen beds; one upstairs bedroom with two twin beds; upstairs dormitory with four beds. The upstairs also includes two full baths, and a family game and exercise room with television.
The downstairs layout is open. There is an expansive kitchen complete with all modern amenities (two ovens), which leads to a dining area, which leads to a living room with a large brick fireplace. Also included downstairs is a pantry room with washer and dryer and second refrigerator, a separate library and television room with satellite reception, a 1/2 bath for guests, and a warm storage area for coats, boots and winter gear.
For the spring through fall months, there is a large screened in porch with separate dining and sitting areas.
There's more. For the warmer months there is an in-ground pool, complete with patio and pool house that includes a changing room, and outdoor shower. Also, there is an outdoor basketball court. A two car garage is attached to the main house, separated by a cold mud room.
Greensboro is in the center of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, rich with cultural activities and Vermont charm. Within miles, in every direction, there are countless hiking, biking, skiing and snowmobiling trails. There are numerous lakes to fish and swim, and nearby Barr Hill preserve offers spectacular views of both the Green Mountains of Vermont and the White Mountains of New Hampshire and welcomes picnickers. Antique stores can be found in every town.
Burlington is 1 1/4 hrs away; Montpelier is only a 40 minute drive. Downhill skiing at Stowe or Jay Peak is 1 hour away. The hub of Vermont's local food movement is here, with several organic farmers and cheese makers offering their produce at local food markets and outdoor stands. And, of course, all can be found and had at Willey's General Store in Greensboro. The cafe at the Highland Arts Center in Greensboro and the Positive Pie restaurant in Hardwick offer some of Vermont's finest dining. Summer months offer a Sunday night concert series on Caspian Lake, and family fun at Circus Smirkus. There is also golf and tennis, open to guests, at the Green Mountain Country Club in Greensboro.

We stayed for a week with a group of friends. The house is spacious and comfortable. The owner, Tom, was in touch by phone and was very helpful. The weather didn’t cooperate for half the week but we were able to use the pool on the non-rainy days. There are many areas to hike and bike nearby. We really enjoyed our trip and would love to return.

Our families of 10 adults had a wonderful time. The house is well-designed and very comfortable. Thanks to the heatwave, we spent most of our time in the pool. The kitchen had everything we needed, and more, which was great for enjoying everything from the various farm stands we came across on our day trips. The views are just wonderful at any time of day or night.

This is a beautiful property, large enough to comfortably accommodate a big group, but still retaining the charm of a country cabin. We came to Vermont to see the eclipse and needed a place to fit 6 adults and 3 children. This home had room to spare. We had everything we needed for a long weekend. The host is incredibly nice and helpful as were the folks in town (despite being overrun with crazy out-of-towners like us for the event). The home is on a dirt road which was very well maintained (even after a surprise early April snowstorm that ended the day we arrived). Our kids enjoyed playing in the snow and riding sleds down the small hill in the yard. We enjoyed several family dinners prepared in the beautiful kitchen and gathered around the large dining table. Evenings doing puzzles by the fire were a highlight for all ages as well. We very much look forward to coming back one day to enjoy this place in the summertime (and checking out the pool).

This is a stunning home on a large scenic property in picturesque rural Vermont. The house had all the space and features we needed for our group XC ski trip with 14 adults. Bedrooms were very comfortable, and importantly, it had enough bathrooms for everyone. The large well-stocked kitchen (all the cookware and decent knives!) and dining room was a highlight for our group meals. The library, game room, and ping pong table in the basement were also great. The working fireplace in the living room made our winter stay extra cozy for group social time after skiing. I hope we can come back in the summer to use the pool, porch, and more of the property!
Snow tires are highly recommended in the winter as this is on a hilly rural dirt road about 4.5mi from Hardwick center and some distance from any main road.
Minor things could be improved - a couple bathrooms were low on toilet paper with no extra stock, and most had no hand or bath soap/conditioner. The host apologized but said he expected guests to replace TP. When you pay thousands to rent a home I expect they maintain these basics, no? They also ask guests to wash and dry all towels before checkout to save cleaning staff time. Last, they need to clarify checkout time - VRBO listing said 11am, the host said 10:30am, then the cleaners showed up at 10am. 10am is unusually early.
The host was very responsive to our questions and easy to communicate with throughout. He also helped us retrieve an item we left behind! Thanks Tom!

This was our 6th year doing a winter friends weekend in the NEK and our third straight year staying at this house. It's great for large groups - tons of bedrooms and bathrooms and a huge open kitchen/living room area so people can hang out together when they want and take their own space when they want. The kitchen is well-equipped with supplies and the second oven and especially the second fridge in the laundry are super helpful. Looking forward to next year!

The house was a great place to get away. More than large enough for our group of twelve family members. A quiet well supplied place to gather. The owner, Tom went above and beyond to give us information about the house and the surrounding area. The house was well furnished and a beautiful place to be. We would stay there again if we ever travel in that area again. Great stay.

We have stayed at this property 5 times since 2016 and it remains our very favorite place to get away from it all. Tom is a great host and the house is just so comfortable. We will be back again.

Our three families, totally 9, (ages 13-79) really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home and property. The home was very clean, spacious and included all the necessities we needed for the week. The open floor plan allowed us to easily communicate from the kitchen to the living room area. The kitchen was FULLY equipped with everything you would need for eating, cooking, baking and plenty of dishware. Even though the house is in a rural area (bonus), there were no issues with the WiFi.
Our favorite room was the huge screened in porch where we enjoyed happy hour, watching rain storms and beautiful sunsets. It also contains another long dining table where we spent evenings playing games.
Since we visited in August (12th-19th), we were fortunate to enjoy the yummy blueberries on the property. Our baking guru's made blueberry pancakes, scones, bruckle, and a delicious blueberry pie.
Tom Cummins, property owner, was excellent in communicating with us at ALL times and providing essential information about the house, specific directions to the house and entry. He was also kind enough to provide us with lots of general information about the area (shopping, great places to eat, etc.).....all great recommendations. One update: The Grand Union is now a TOPS.
The property has an inviting pool, however, due to rain and cooler days and night-time temps, our family didn't use it.
Overall, this is a wonderful property and location!!

The house and property were wonderful. Lots of great spaces, indoors and outdoors to gather. We loved hanging out at the pool, preparing meals in the well equipped kitchen and eating on the screened porch. The location is spectacular with beautiful views and great walks right out the door. Our host was very responsive and gave of us lots of helpful information about the house and the area.

This is an amazing place hidden away in the backwoods of Vermont. Very private with everything you could need. The host is very responsive, ask any questions and be sure to read his welcome email carefully, there are some good local tips in there!

The house was very nice and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms. There were 6 guys all Snowmobilers and we just loved it. House had everything you would need to spend the weekend or a week. We have decided that it is going to be our annual weekend getaway at the house. Siting by the fire after a long day of riding at -45 degrees outside was really nice. I would recommend it to anyone

Stayed here with a group of 8 adults, skiing at Craftsbury. We were excited to visit based on the listing, but honestly, neither pictures nor description can do it justice - this house is beautiful, functional, well-stocked, with incredible views. The entire process was clear and easy, with good directions and instructions. The kitchen had everything we needed for large group meals, including multiple people cooking at once. Two ovens! Decent knives! Plenty of good pots and pans! I'm used to bringing my own kitchen stuff for a rental and I didn't need any of it.
We experienced no issues with the house. Beds were comfy, showers worked well, plenty of hot water, parking, storage, fridge space, counter space, couches. We could all be in one space all at once, or have multiple groups doing their own thing in their own space.
Best VRBO experience any of us have had. Great easy access to Hardwick, Craftsbury, Greensboro, and if we come back folks will also stay here and go to Stowe, Jay, and Burke.

Awesome place! The pictures on the website doesn’t capture this place and how beautiful it really is! There were 11 adults and this place has room for many more. The amenities are awesome and out of all the place’s I’ve stayed they by far have a very well stocked kitchen. Snow on Christmas capped off the stay for sure!

Spacious with a large kitchen and huge island for food preparation and serving. Dining table sat 12 comfortably. Sleeps 12 very comfortably. The photos don't do its beauty justice nor convey the size of the spaces. We enjoyed a very relaxing 72 hours of Thanksgiving as an extended family.

What a perfect house for our family to enjoy the Northeast Kingdom during a family wedding weekend! Plenty of room for everyone, and a spectacular location. We were able to do really nice long hikes right outside the front door. Convenient to everything!

We had a group of 10 + 1 infant that stayed at this wonderful VT home. We gravel biked around the area (can ride in any direction from the home) and this was the perfect place to spend our evenings. Loved the stay, loved the area, loved the biking...would stay here again!!

We rented this property for family staying two nights for an early October wedding at Turning Stone Farm in Greensboro. Wonderful accommodations…comfortable, clean and spacious for 12. We had originally planned for 6, but last minute changes in plans from Hurricane Ian stranded some in Florida, canceling accommodations for others. The owners we notified of a request to increase the guests and graciously accommodated. Highly recommend from a long time VRBO renter!

We were looking for a home to accommodate 10 of us, including 3 generations for a wedding nearby. This was it! Plenty of bedrooms, baths, kitchen, eating , yard & living space with a spectacular view. Host checked in on arrival. The well decorated & furnished home was clean; the amenities numerous. Loved the 2 master bedrooms.

We had a wonderful stay at this Hardwick property with seven adults, four kids five and under, and one dog. The house was spacious enough to accommodate all of us very comfortably. A personal favorite was the large screened in porch, where we enjoyed several beautiful sunsets. The house was very clean, and the kitchen was especially well-stocked.

My family and I have been doing vacations together for years and this house was by far the best one we have stayed at - the pictures don't do it justice!! Spacious, homey, comfortable... it hit all the marks! The pool was perfect for us and watching the sunset in the evenings, you couldn't beat it! Tom was super responsive with the few questions we had and recommended a great pizza place to eat at! Overall, I can't say enough good things about our stay and this house. Thank you!!

Can't miss vacation spot
What a great home! Comfy, beautiful and so tranquil! Our week in central VT could not have been better. The pool was put to very good use and each day we dined in the screened in porch, enjoying beautiful breezes that carried the scents of the acres and acres of wildflowers. You can't miss by staying here!

Perfect relaxing getaway
We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Tom and Mary's property. The pictures do not do it justice. It is even more lovely than the photos. The home is spacious, plenty of room in common areas for meals, card games, etc. Yet, plenty of room to spread out and retreat to a quiet place for some time of your own. The pool area is fantastic. It gets lots of sun. The house is well-appointed too. Plenty of towels, dishes, etc whatever you might need. Handy to have the washer and dryer easily accessible on main floor. There is even a second fridge in laundry room. There are 2 grills for your preference...propane and charcoal. Close to several quaint towns, fishing holes, hiking, etc. Not too far to venture to Stowe, Newport, even Lake Champlain. It truly is a beautiful gem.

Amazing VT Vacation Home
This property was everything we hoped it would be and more. The house is located in an exceptionally bucolic setting with majestic mountain views amid rolling green farmland. As for the house and amenities, it’s clear this home is a labor of love for its owners. No detail has been missed in building an authentic New England farmhouse, and the furnishings fit the home while at the same time being comfortable. Having a private pool with pool house on the property is ideal. Our group of eight adults and three kids had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the house. The screened porch was a particular favorite. Being a bit off the beaten path was one of the best parts of being in Hardwick, yet Stowe isn’t far. Montpellier and Burlington are both a bit further, but a day trip to either is feasible and recommended. Tom is a tremendous host and made the whole process of renting, as well as check-in and -out, simple. He truly wanted us to have the best stay possible.

Great friends weekend in the NEK!
We had a great weekend in the NEK at this house. We were a group of 10 friends in our mid-30s, along with 2 infants and 2 dogs. We're from the Burlington area and are pretty familiar with what the Hardwick/Craftsbury/Greensboro area has to offer (lots of great food, drinks, and outdoor activities!). There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out - the babies were able to go to sleep away from everyone, so that we didn't disturb their sleep and they didn't disturb ours. It was a super cold weekend, so we didn't do as much skiing (XC) as we'd hoped, but we had a nice Sunday morning ski at Craftsbury Outdoor Center (and got some treats from the Front Seat Coffee pop up). We took the dogs for a walk down the road (very quiet and dead-end, at least in winter). And we made a lot of great meals - the kitchen is well-equipped - several large dutch ovens, Kitchen Aid, and much more! There are 2 downstairs bedrooms (1 with full bath attached, 1 with king bed) and 4 upstairs bedrooms. The location is great too - close to Hardwick, Craftsbury, and Greensboro (came up with a reason to go to Willey's Store, which has the best selection of Jasper Hill cheese I've ever seen). Tom communicated a lot, and the directions were key, because Google Maps will lead you astray (it directed us to a road that is not plowed in winter). We've tried a few different houses for our winter NEK weekends thus far, and I think/hope we'll be coming back to this one!
