About this house rental
We are the closest vacation rental of it's size to Cheney and Eastern Washington University.
Located on a ponderosa pine covered ranch South of town, The Harwood Lodge is an exclusive, log and timber framed lodge featuring 5 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms on 3 floors. Built in 2005, it has modern conveniences with all of the rustic charm in a very tranquil, private and amazingly beautiful setting away from it all but just a short drive into town.
A 40' free-standing river rock fireplace serves as the focal point of the main lodge. Privacy and tranquility surround you as you soak in the hot tub, sit around the outdoor fire pit or take in the view off of the deck! Located within 10 minutes of 7 lakes and adjacent to Turnbull Nat'l Wildlife Refuge, The Harwood Lodge is THE ideal location for a nature-inspired getaway... (AND: we're just 25 short miles and just 2 turns from downtown Spokane!).
Team Coaches/Advisors: The Lodge is also just 10 short miles from EWU, in a straight line! The "25" sleeping number is the max number of kids that the Lodge will comfortably accommodate in beds, air mattresses, sleeping bags, etc.
GROUP/EVENT PRICING: for larger groups (Business Retreats/Sports Teams/Church Groups/Reunions/Etc.) is as follows: Lodge event rental from Friday at 3PM through Sunday at noon are flat group fees. We also allow for RV's or tents if you wish to bring them (please check with us first). Write or call for details.
Holiday weekends (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, etc.) are always in high demand and usually book out far in advance. They are $1499 base rate and include 3 nights stay. They are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. This includes Hoopfest Weekend as well.
EWU, WSU & GU Graduation weekends are usually also reserved far in advance and based upon availability on a first-come, first-served basis. These weekends are $1499 and include 3 nights stay. Call or write for availability.
Weddings/Events: 10+ guests -Use of the Lodge and entire ranch property from Friday 3PM through Monday at noon, $2995. $399 per day for each additional day on either side.
Staying at the Lodge is MUCH less expensive for groups, sports teams, work crews and families than staying in individual hotel rooms, eating out and driving all over! And, all in a way more cool and relaxed environment that is conducive to team building and free from the distractions of commercial accommodations, restaurants, traffic and noise found in town. It looks and feels like something right out of a Hallmark movie!
So, whether you're just a couple looking for a quiet little getaway for the weekend, a group of friends looking for the ideal yet affordable gathering spot, or a larger group looking for a retreat location, The Harwood Lodge IS your ideal destination spot! An amazing space to just "get away from it all" for a bit.
Cheers...!

Summary of reviews
Great place for family gatherings, spacious cabins with beautiful views, fully stocked kitchens and responsive hosts. Perfect for celebrations and getaways!
1.0
1) The sliding glass door sticks badly even after we sprayed wd40 on the tracks
2)The whole house needs to be dusted
The wine bottles, the animals, all the knock knacks are covered in dust.
3) The bed frame in the main level bedroom is falling apart.
4) Under the sink by the trash can is completely filthy.
5) The string lights on the main deck are just hanging off the house with a pile on the deck.
6) The windows don't open on the upstairs bedroom because the mechanisms are broken and looks like they have been for years.
7) The lightbulbs in the vaulted ceiling need to be replaced.
8) There is a helium baloon stuck in the peak of the ceiling
9) There is no way to turn the light off and have the fan still on in the upper bedroom because the chain is too short to reach.
10) The toilet in the main floor bathroom is loose, it shifts when you sit down.
11) The toilet seat in the upstairs bathroom is loose and moves around.
12) There are no curtains on the bedroom windows downstairs and the curtains in the main level bedroom are not enough to provide any privacy given the sitting area on the front porch looks directly into that bedroom.
13) the sheets on the upstairs bed are worn out and thin.
14). The hot tub water is cloudy and full of particulates. Most of the adults in our party would not use the hot tub because of the condition of the water.
All of these things were shared with owner who only replied..... Thank you for staying with us.

Friends and family came into town for a celebration. There was plenty of room for all. I enjoyed the well stocked kitchen and cooking for my family. The back deck was a great place to chill in the evening and look out at the stars. My favorite part was the quiet on the property. Only sounds of nature. Beautiful place! Thank you!

We visited with relatives in Spokane and had them over for dinner and to visit, was awesome, there is something to do for everyone, we always feel so comfortable and at home there!! Would highly recommend the cabin, it is amazing and so peaceful!

We needed a central location for everyone to meet, and this matched. With a bed and bath on main floor it covered the mobility of one family member and allowed them to still participate. The 3 beds and batgroom downstairs allowed the teens a spot to play boardgames and the ac downstairs ment it was cool for all the teens. The master bed, bath, and balcony up stairs allowed a bit of excape and the little kids gould still be heard from the kitchen and main floor for supervision. The staircase behind the fireplace was a big hit along with the hidden quarks and adults and kids raved about. The laundry/mud room provided a great staging area for party prep. The hot tub was a hit and the fire pit was great for smores. There was space for all ages and no one was running over the top of each other. Looking forward to coming back soon.

We stayed with extended family for a funeral. So nice and peaceful, with plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen is fully stocked with every gadget you will ever need. We all enjoyed our stay. Only update we recommend is to add some hooks to upstairs bedroom for guests to hang clothes & towels. Would definitely stay again. Owner is very responsive and helpful.

Everything was good, but if you want to sit around the table with a big group over 10 people, can’t really do that, table/ dinning room is small. Also if you want kids under 6 to play freely only in the basement they can, in the main living room a bunch of decor and stuff they can brake, also right by the upstairs there are wine racks with wine and if by any chance you fall of the stairs you will break them (a small down side of the house) too much stuff. But for adults great place to come and relax. Cozy fireplace for the winter of fall.

The hot tub was nice to come back to after a day out in the snow. It was an amazing home and the owners were extremely responsive and made sure to check in with me to see that everything was going well.

Family loved staying at this location. We were able to get multiple households together without feeling cramped for space. The host made sure that we had everything we needed for a good stay.

Unfortunately we were not able to stay at the property because there was in a level 3 evacuation from a wild fire. I understand that this was not the property owners fault but he was unwilling to refund even half the money. I feel that is not the right thing to do as we had to scramble to find and pay for another place to hold a family reunion with pot of town guests.

Comfortable and spacious!
Our family really enjoyed this accommodation! Loved the rustic/cabin decor! It was well stocked with essential kitchen items. We would definitely stay here again if we had a large family get together.

Great property and beautiful house
There is a lot of decor including wine bottles on display which made it a bit difficult with small children. The master bed was very comfortable but the other beds were rather hard and need mattress toppers.
They is plenty of space for parking and lots of dishes provided for having a large gathering which was very pleasant since this isn't always the case. The kitchen is a good size and fits multiple people to cook together and the pantry is well stocked with basics you may need during your stay.
Walking around the property and looking at all the wildflowers was truly a highlight of our stay.
The back deck definatly needs some attention as our kids ended up with lots of splinters and its a bit wobbly but the view is unbeatable. We even got to watch a hailstorm roll in and listen to the hail in the metal roof which was an experience I won't soon forget.
We had a wonderful family reunion and with a little work, this place would be top notch.

Great lodge in the woods
Lodge is nestled in the woods yet near enough to Cheney that we went to a bar to play pool one afternoon. Kitchen is well stocked. Great room has a beautiful wall of windows that look out into the woods! Could use some updating but had nearly everything we could need. Owner is very attentive and available. Would definitely go back again.

Winter Cabin Wonderland
My family and significant other (8 in total) vacationed at the Harwood Lodge for the new year and had an absolute blast. Rick and Tammy were very hospitable and communicated well even though they were on vacation. They even expedited the cleaning so that we could add a day and come over early to avoid trouble on the pass coming over.
The cabin was very homely and kept us warm even with subzero temps during the night. The fireplace was a focal point for us all and we cooked several meals in the kitchen together.
Walking the property was great to get outside and going to Cheney was only a quick drive away to get all we needed in town.
This is a wonderful place to retreat and enjoy the outdoors as well as snuggle up and nest.

Great team getaway!
Our small team enjoyed time together at the Harwood Lodge. We each had a bedroom to ourselves and used the living room for planning time. We enjoyed a walk at the nearby Turnbull Wildlife Refuge. Very clean, very cozy!

A beautiful place with peace and quiet
If your looking for the perfect place to just enjoy nature you have found it. We have rented several Vrbo rentals over the years and I would have to say this was the bast place we have ever stayed, clean and quiet and very well stocked kitchen. We have never stayed in a house that the kitchen had everything we needed for cooking as well as the daily essentials like salt, pepper, Coffey and just a variety of small items like that in the cupboard very appreciative. The master suite was awesome as well as the layout, plenty of room for everyone to just relax and enjoy would rate it a full 10 stars and hope to make it back again.

Great Stay!
Hi! How about this:
The cabin was perfect for our big group. Plenty of space, and a remote location that isn’t too far from downtown Cheney! The side cabin is far from the house and not air-conditioned, so don’t count on that as a bedroom, but overall, it was a wonderful stay!

Great Place!
The lodge is a great place with alot of character. Enough room for the whole family. Rick was very accommodating for our last minute pets that came to stay. Would definitely stay again!!

Awesome getaway
We had so much fun at your place. Lived everything about it. The only thing I would say it's the deck had a small board missing but they did have a mat over it . Other then that nice and quiet country scene. Love the homey feeling inside the house. Thanks again for letting us stay and we will be back again.

Great for a Group
We enjoyed our brief stay (2 nights). It was a great property for a group with lots of gathering space and comfortable bedrooms. We were lucky to have moderate weather and enjoyed a few walks outside.

It was awesome being so secluded! Saw a deer on the property! The basement is nice and cool! The cabin had everything we needed!

Perfect Long Weekend
No complaints! None. Our group had a wonderful time at the Ranch. The property is so quiet and a wonderful escape from the demands of daily life. Very well stocked with everything you need to cook any meal but also close enough to Cheney for a burger and beer or Spokane for a day in the city. Rick and Tammy were very helpful and helpful quick to respond to any questions we had before and during our stay. Highly recommend and would absolutely stay at the Ranch again!

Family gathering
We traveled to Washington from out of state for a funeral. The cabin gave us space and comfort we needed during the grieving. It was a wonderful place out of the way to connect.

Perfect graduation getaway!
We stayed at the Harwood Ranch to celebrate our daughter’s graduation from WSU. We are a family of adventurous outdoorsman plus a bird hunting Labrador. We all had a fabulous time laughing, playing games, and a crazy Nerf war involving 6 20-somethings and a goofball dad. (Hope we found all the nerf bullets!)
We salvaged a disappointing campus graduation with a lovely escape to the ranch. We watched the virtual graduation and sipped champagne and had a lovely time with one another.
The hot tub was now open, but none of us had our swimsuits. We probably would not have had time to use it anyway. Our daughter and her 2 fellow graduates were thrilled with the experience and so happy with their time at the ranch. Thanks Rick!

We enjoyed our stay
We were looking for a venue where our family could gather to celebrate our Mom/Grandmothers life. The great room was perfect for that and the property provided a peaceful surrounding. The house was clean and everything was provided as promised. Rick was very good with answering questions during the booking process, and his overall communication was exceptional. He even checked on us as we were traveling to Washington State.
There were previous reviews mentioning the deck condition and grounds not being what was pictured. I would say that when we had 4-5 people on the deck we did not feel safe so we did not use it. As for the grounds they were clean and fine. The tiny house was something we would not use. It is located quite a ways from the house and had not been cleaned from the winter season. I am sure it would be fun for teenagers in the summertime.
If you are looking for a comfortable, clean, quiet, secluded venue then this is for you.

Perfect Place
This was the perfect place to reconnect with family and friends, surrounded by a tranquil pine forest. We feel rested and rejuvenated. We hope to visit again. Thank you so much, Rick and Tammy!
