We loved Lisa’s cozy cottage It was such a beautiful setting with tropical plants everywhere!. All the details in a small space were well thought out. The kitchen had all you needed to prepare a fine meal. The bath room was roomy, with plenty of towels. The bed was quite comfortable. I loved the small porch and the spacious outdoor lawn and overlook, perfect for morning coffee. it was a plus having a washer and dryer in a.covered garage. This space was also a covered space for a car. I loved all the little touches in color choices and art.it was close to a small town which you could carefully walk to, or drive if you wish. I liked the chickens and the frogs at night. Perfect for two.
Lisa was a perfect host she met us but gave us space to be on our own. She also said goodbye and gave recommendations for our further travel.

Between the views, the property and the kindness of the host our trip was everything we needed and more.

Very comfortable, loved the location, great to be a few degrees cooler than in town, enjoyed the sunsets from the garden. The restaurant in the village was great. Thanks Lisa and Emma and the chickens!!

Tiny small cabin no room for 2 persons. Too expensive for such a small place!

My husband and I had a wonderful week stay at Lisa’s cottage. It’s a beautiful location surrounded by lush plantings with an expansive view of the ocean from the great lawn. We drank our delicious Kona Blue Sky coffee each morning from there and watched the sunset over the ocean in the evenings. The cute villlage of Holualoa is just up the road and it’s so nice to be above the business of Kailua—Kona while still being close to everything. Hope to return!

We loved so much about our stay here - the wide lawn overlooking terrific ocean views, the “real Hawaii” feel, the uncrowded atmosphere, and of course the chickens with their chicks! This was perfect for 2 laid back people to enjoy!

This was our third place to stay on this trip to the Big Island and the accommodations were far different from our other stops. We had stayed in a condo in downtown Kailua and then at a condo in the resort area of Waikoloa.
This was a stay in the country. The "cabin-like" accommodation comfortable and the location was both refreshing and invigorating.
This cabin is situated on a large parcel of land that was beautifully landscaped. There was a large expansive lawn area surrounded by flowers which provided wonderful a 180 degree unobstructed view of the Kailua area and provided very nice sunsets.
We were provided with beach towels, boogie boards, beach chairs and snorkel equipment for our use.
We especially loved the screened-in lanai and the cooler temperatures found up on the mountain. The temperatures here are 5-10 degrees cooler that in downtown Kailua or in Waikoloa.
The only issue that you should be aware of is that at night, the coqui frogs can be very loud (especially after a rain!).
It would have been nice to have some earplugs that first night. By the second night we had gotten used to the sounds. There are also a number of hens and roosters around - which could also be noisy at times.
If you want to stay in a unique place that has flowers, trees, views and can handle the animal sounds, you should definitely stay here.

Lisa has a lovely cottage set up for guests. The setting and view are amazing. She came by to introduce herself - a lovely and very hardworking woman. The cottage had everything we needed .

On our arrival at this lovely pink cottage we were touched by the fresh fruits, flower arrangement, and excellent coffee, roasted by Lisa. The kitchen was newly remodeled with a cabinet, beautiful quartz countertop and 2-burner electric stovetop. The space was cozy, immaculate and had everything we needed. We particularly loved the history connected to the cottage and land, as well as the artwork inside. It was very creative! There is a carport and another rental nearby, but no lack of privacy. It was quiet, with entertainment mainly from birdsong and coquis, as well as a few chickens with newly hatched chicks. The large lawn had an infinity-like edge to it, with an endless view to the ocean. We sat there to watch the sun go down, and also to exercise on the soft grass. The extensive grounds had beautiful gardens and fruit trees. Lisa's modern coffee roasting workplace was behind our cottage. We had the chance to buy her freshly roasted coffee which was a real treat on our return to our below zero home! Lisa is a wonderful host, warm and welcoming. If you are looking for a place that has a feel of authentic Hawaii and is within the artistic community of Holualoa, away from the hustle-bustle of resorts but still close to local attractions, this is it!

If you love history and character this is the place for you! Lisa's property is absolutely stunning. My husband and I stayed in her cottage during our first stop on the big island. This is the perfect place to stay right outside of Kona. Thank you for your hospitality, Lisa.

Lisa was a very communicative and welcoming host.
The place was clean and super cute, we loved the screened lanai for morning coffee. The kitchen had everything you need and the coffee and fruit provided were much appreciated. The lawn overlooking the water was spectacular at sunset.
The only downsides were the driveway, very steep and hard to get out of in our dodge charger rental, and there was a fair amount of car noise from the road and lots of roosters crowing from the neighbouring property.

The cottage is very cute with many original touches. The kitchen comes with a blender, rice cooker, etc. but overall has a very basic propane stove and cutlery/knives. It is worth noting that the cottage faces a back sitting area with a carpool on the ocean side so it doesn’t look out towards the ocean. The windows all have screens but some didn’t close so you get a constant breeze. There are no fans and it can become humid. The frogs at night are quite loud and it would be wise to bring ear plugs. It doesn’t have very comfortable seating on the lanai but there are additional chairs on the back patio area. This is a true step back in time.

My son and i visited the island for the first time and enjoyed our stay. He said it was the best trip ever! My son loved Hobbs the cat! He also enjoyed exploring the property and picking fresh star fruit. We were provided with fresh bananas, fresh star fruit, freshly roasted coffee and even with conversation at night! We had so much fun going out and exploring everyday.

This cottage is cozy and charmingly rustic. There is wonderful artwork in every room. The bed is comfortable, the fridge is mini and the cooktop was a gas canning stove that could be pushed out to the screened in porch. We didn't really use the kitchen much but it would have worked for us. There is a coffee bean roasting operation on site and we were provided some beans for morning coffee. The coffee was excellent (Kona Blue Sky).
Our host Lisa came by while I was in the shower but my husband said she was lovely.
Overall, I enjoyed our stay and would return.

Recently stayed with Lisa and could not be more pleased with our stay. Away from the noise of Kona but still 15 minutes from beach parks and 30 minutes from resort beaches this is an ideal location if you want to relax in the evening. Host was great, friendly quick to respond. Very cozy for two people but not too cozy. Will stay again if I am back on the island.

We loved our stay at Lisa’s. The grounds are amazing. We came from Waikiki to here and everything is so much more relaxed. Tucked away but still a short drive to restaurants and shops in Kona. Perfect base for us to explore the Kona area and west side of Big Island. Lisa was a lovely host, making us feel really at home. Thanks again for our stay!

Lisa is awesome and the property is really cool. History and culture, along with a quaint cottage nestled in banana and coffee plants. Couldn’t be happier with the visit. Wish we had more time but definitely would come back. Snorkeling with the gear from the cottage was a highlight and easy access to everything. Wonderful reefs within 5 miles. Thanks for a great first visit to the big island!

Cozy, no frills, secluded cottage - just what we were looking for! Conveniently located; far enough from Kailua-Kona to escape the town experience - close enough to drive to the ocean and surrounding towns and beaches.
Kitchen was equipped with the essentials to cook meals. The 2-burner propane stove got a workout and the portable charcoal grill received some use as well.
Complimentary coffee, fruit and other treats were very nice. We snorkeled a lot and the gear provided was adequate. Beach towels, chairs and a cooler for personal use were appreciated.
While the cottage is uphill from town in the forest, there was road noise. The Coqui frogs were very loud at night.
Bonus - we loved the chickens, pooches, and smell of roasting coffee in the mornings. We felt like we were on a working farm. Sunsets were delightful from the property's overlook. The only thing missing was a direct view of the ocean from the cottage.
Hosts were not intrusive but available and responsive when we had questions. Overall, we had a very positive experience.

We rented both the house and cottage for a family group of ten members. This was perfect - beautiful property, great views, helpful hostess, close to all our activities. Highly recommend!

Lovely cottage big enough for two. Enjoyed downtime reading on the lanai, talking to one of Lisa's young cats. Spent time enjoying the beautiful, large yard with sunset views. Lisa was welcoming and shared her recommendations on food stops in nearby Kona. Easy trek to Honaunau, too, for snorkeling.

The quaintness and coziness of Lisa’s cottage are beyond words. The location to beach and town is phenomenal but yet you feel that rural farm lifestyle on pristine grounds. The gardens and trees are just so lovely we’d stay there again in a heartbeat! Did I forget to mention her amazing coffee??that is included in the stay

Charming cottage. Pictures accurately reflect interiors. Good for two persons —no more. No oven, but toaster oven and 2 burners. Ice was not immediately available, but we were able to request some from the big house. Kitchen nicely appointed for two. Half-size fridge. The property is large, the gardens and lawn gorgeous, and we were given permission to roam. While we stayed, there were no guests in the big house, and the location felt very private and serene. Honestly, we spent lots of time just chilling and watching the chickens and an occasional pair of pheasants.
Our host, Lisa, met us shortly after arrival and was gracious as well as answering all our questions. The view from the lawn to the harbor is amazing. There were lots of toys at our disposal, from boogie boards to croquet set. We were provided with bananas and a bag of the on-site roasted coffee. We picked papaya for breakfast.
The drive way is steep and the road above is relatively busy during the day. It can be a bit intimidating to make the plunge the first time. Surprisingly, there is almost no traffic after dark. The night sounds are frogs and the occasional rooster.

Rustic old cottage with great sunset viewing. Surrounded by fruit trees and tropical growth. Feral chickens and lots of roosters to remind you of morning. Quaint place to stay while enjoying all the beauty of this island.

Such a lovely property with a beautiful yard and great view of Moana and Kona! Lisa was a gracious host. She made time and showed us around the property and talked coffee at her roasting house. Would love to visit again.

I just loved my stay at Hale Akala Holualoa Cottage. I couldn't help but appreciate the old-world charm that is abundant on this whole well maintained natural setting. I spent the early part of each morning with a delicious cup of coffee (that was provided) as I strolled around the grounds taking in all the natural plants, trees, foliage and great variety of views. A great way to start every day before going out to explore the island. The cottage was well equipped, clean, and the bed was very comfy. I slept very well each night with the windows raised to let in the natural air. No AC needed here. The natural elevation of the property provides mother nature's natural cooling. Lisa was especially great too. Very knowledgeable, genuine and charming. When my weeklong stay was up, I couldn't help but wish I had more time to spend here. I hope I can make it back sometime soon.

This totally charming and cozy cottage is on an amazing property with a stunning view of the ocean… The garden trees, plants, and flowers are a feast to the eyes…
The bed is oh! so comfy and we slept like babies as the nights are wonderfully cool…
The village itself, just like the property, is quiet and peaceful… with little shops and nice cafés (Lisa makes her own brand which is delicious).
Lisa is extremely welcoming and warm… and replies very quickly to any message you may send…
We would love to come back :-)))

My husband and I rented this cottage for 6 nights while attending the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona and sightseeing throughout the Big Island. The cottage is situated on a rural mountainside property with historic significance. It was convenient for us to access the amenities and activities in the local area as well as all major roads and highways of the island. The property, which includes two other residential buildings, is large with inspiring views of the ocean and skyline. It is well-maintained & rich with colorful native plants, flowers and trees. The cottage itself is smartly decorated. The attached lanai is private with its own beautiful landscaping that offers a sense of refuge and quiet set apart from the larger property. Lisa, the homeowner, is friendly and helpful, and readily available via text if needed. We enjoyed our stay here as well as the chance to sample a Hawaiian lifestyle set apart from the city.

Great property to enjoy Hawaii
Great location looking out to the ocean from a high hill, so the views are amazing and the property itself has a tropical hideaway feel. The cottage is near the separate house rental property, but is detached and private. Our group of 10 rented both properties and we felt that seemed like a nice expansive space for all of us.

Incredible property!
Stunning view, 10 min from the beach/shore. So many amenities. We were provided boogie boards, swim shoes, etc. everything you could need to be comfortable. We also had coffee samples on site and ability to buy some on the property. A must see property for your stay in Hawaii!

Awesome Big Island Get Away!
My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Lisa's cozy and charming bungalow. Great location above Kailua-Kona in Kona coffee country. Easy to get everywhere. Property has a fascinating history and great ocean and sunset views. Lisa made some great suggestions on some not to be missed day trips. Pololu Valley Lookout and short hike down to the black sand beach was amazing. Be sure to stock up on Lisa's Blue Sky Coffee while you are there. The beans are roasted there on site. Delicious!! We were sad to leave but would definitely come back.

Perfect Cottage on Historic Estate
Oh wow! This property has so much to offer. The sunsets were indescribable!
It was the perfect place to stay while visiting the Kailua Kona region. We loved the location, away from the bustle, on a beautiful historic road. There are fruit trees all over the large land.
The cottage has all the amenities for comfort and is spotlessly clean. We enjoyed the screened lanai and the beautiful outdoor area where we ate a few meals.
We enjoyed the area for snorkeling, boogie boarding, dining by the beach, and shopping.

Great stay in Holualoa / Kona
We spent two nights on this lovely property. Lisa was a great host and provided a nice walk through of her property and a viewing of her coffee roasting shop. What a great experience to see the actual roasting of Kona coffee.
Lisa’s instruction were easy to follow and the cottage was comfortable and felt like home. Best wishes to her continued coffee business ( I picked up some for gifts too).

Relaxing and Cozy
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Lisa’s cottage! The pictures present the cottage accurately. As we cooked most of our meals, we found the kitchen very well stocked. We had read one review that the guest was nervous of the propane elements. However, as my husband states, if you can use a propane bbq you will be comfortable with the burners. They worked great every morning to cook up our steel cut oats. :) Having our meals cooked over the charcoal briquettes was so very tasty. Lisa gave us a tour of her coffee roasting facility and had left some samples in the kitchen from her roaster and her fruit trees. We enjoyed both immensely. After a wonderful day at the beach, we would rush home to grab a drink and take a chair on the lawn overlooking the ocean to see the sunset. As dusk came upon us, the frogs started their evensong ritual and we were lulled to sleep. Thanks so much, Lisa. We enjoyed our time at your cottage. You were a terrific host and most accommodating!

Rustic Kona Countryside with Coffee and a View
My wife and I stayed here for 3 lovely days in February. The cottage is quaint, clean and rustic; the grounds are filled with fruit trees, views, and wandering chickens and dogs; it's nice to get away from the rush of Kailua; and Lisa's a thoughtful, sweet host. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Folks wishing to stay here should know that the neighbor raises many roosters for fighting, and said roosters are loud, starting at oh, 4 or 5 am. And the cottage is rustic, meaning there are windows that don't wish to close and there's a very old propane cooktop we wanted no part of. Aside from those parts, the cottage is perfect, with a beautiful lanai, outside sitting area, and, when we were there, ripe papaya and starfruit to enjoy! Thanks for everything, Lisa - we hope the neighbor gets rid of those roosters!
